- Transmission Problems:
- Transmission Slipping: Transmission slipping is a common issue in the 1992 Galant, which can be caused by worn-out clutch plates, low transmission fluid levels, or a damaged torque converter. This can lead to reduced vehicle performance and potential transmission failure if not addressed promptly.

- Transmission Failure: Transmission failure is a significant concern in the 1992 Galant, which can be caused by various factors, including worn-out gears, damaged bearings, or low transmission fluid levels. Transmission failure can lead to expensive repairs or even the need for a complete transmission replacement.
- Electrical Problems:
- Battery Drainage: Battery drainage is a common issue in the 1992 Galant, which can be caused by faulty wiring, corroded battery terminals, or a malfunctioning alternator. This can lead to difficulty starting the vehicle or even a dead battery.
- Alternator Failure: Alternator failure is a significant concern in the Galant, which can be caused by various factors, including worn-out bearings, damaged wiring, or a faulty voltage regulator. Alternator failure can lead to battery drainage and difficulty starting the vehicle.
- Starter Motor Failure: Starter motor failure is a common issue in the 1992 Galant, which can be caused by various factors, including worn-out brushes, damaged solenoids, or a faulty starter motor relay. Starter motor failure can lead to difficulty starting the vehicle.
- Suspension Problems:
- Strut Mount Failure: Strut mount failure is a common issue in the 1992 Galant, which can be caused by worn-out mounts or damaged struts. This can lead to reduced vehicle stability and handling.
- Tie Rod End Issues: Tie rod end issues are a common problem in the Galant, which can be caused by worn-out tie rods or damaged ends. This can lead to reduced vehicle stability and handling.
- Wheel Bearing Problems: Wheel bearing problems are a significant concern in the 1992 Galant, which can be caused by various factors, including worn-out bearings, damaged seals, or damaged wheel hubs. Wheel bearing problems can lead to reduced vehicle stability and handling, as well as potential wheel damage if not addressed promptly.
In summary, the 1992 Mitsubishi Galant has had several common problems reported by owners, including engine issues such as oil leaks, overheating, timing belt failure, and misfires; transmission problems such as slipping, gear shifting issues, and failure; electrical problems such as battery drainage, alternator failure, and starter motor failure; and suspension problems such as strut mount failure, tie rod end issues, and wheel bearing problems. I purchased my 1991 Mitsubishi Galant from a lovely one-owner lady who had driven it for 163,000 miles, back in February 2002. The car came with a shoe-box full of every receipt ever written on maintenance, which was a great bonus. Since then, we have driven it for another 48,000 miles over three years, and it has been an absolute pleasure to own. We have taken it on several coast-to-coast trips, and it has handled Montana winters like a champ, despite its origins in Florida. It is also incredibly fuel-efficient, giving me 30/33 mpg, and cruises at 80 MPH with ease. Even after 211,000 miles, it only uses a quart of oil every 1,500 miles, and I use Mobil 1. I am seriously considering keeping it forever!

Hey there! I see that you have a family sports car.
-
Even though it may seem almost worthless, this car is actually irreplaceable and comes at a much higher cost. It has a unique combination of style, performance, features, and practicality that make it truly special. It's such a shame that it's no longer available in North America.
-
You've owned 14 cars over a period of 24 years and this one is by far the best. It's very intelligently designed and has given you no major problems. Even after 160,000 miles, it's still running smoothly with only typical maintenance so far. Compared to most other cars of its class, it's smooth and quiet, making it feel like you're going slower than you actually are. Driving it feels really good and it's comfortable too. Maybe you just got a particularly good one, but looking at the ratings, it seems like they're all this good. If you find a used one in good shape, don't pass it up! You honestly love this car.
-
This car has 206,000 miles and is still going. It has had the transmission rebuilt and $600 worth of brake repairs, but other than that there have been no major problems over its life. Although the cruise control, turbo and overdrive on/off options no longer work after 200,000 miles, the car is still dependable as a commuter car or as a first car for a teenager.

1992 Mitsubishi Galant Repair: Service and Maintenance Cost
The Mitsubishi Galant Reliability Rating is 4.5 out of 5.0, which ranks it 2nd out of 24 for midsize cars.
Will Schmeler 2024-04-24
The gear system of my car has encountered a serious issue. Despite the relatively low mileage of 120K, the gearbox has broken down. While the spare parts are expensive, I am confident in my ability to address this issue and get my car back on the road.
Sigmund Ferry 2024-01-02
This is a solid, well-built car that offers a comfortable ride. However, the LS model with automatic transmission has poor acceleration. Mitsubishi has included both an overdrive switch and a power/economy switch, but it seems that the overdrive is only useful for freeway driving, as the car's mileage is below 18 mpg in town no matter which mode is used. If you're considering this car, we recommend avoiding the automatic transmission. On the other hand, the car handles well, is easy to drive, and offers plenty of room and comfort. While the fuel injection may seem unnecessary, it does contribute to the car's overall performance.
