According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2000-2005 Eclipse vehicles manufactured April 5, 1999, to December 17, 2004, 2001-2005 Eclipse Spyder vehicles manufactured January 19, 2000, to March 18, 2005, 2001-2005 Chrysler Sebring vehicles manufactured April 17, 2000, to February 21, 2005, and 2001-2005 Dodge Stratus vehicles manufactured April 17, 2000, to February 22, 2005. In the affected vehicles, the passenger side sun visor may be folded down in such a position that, if the passenger frontal air bag deploys, the passenger side sun visor may detach.
- Consequence: If the passenger side sun visor detaches and is propelled rearward, there is an increased risk of occupant injury.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify their owners, and Chrysler will notify the Chrysler and Dodge owners. Dealers will install a tether strap to retain the passenger sun visor, free of charge. The recall began on July 20, 2015. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-15-005. Chrysler and Dodge owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R30.

- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Eclipse vehicles manufactured April 20, 2005, to February 13, 2009, and 2007-2009 Eclipse Spyder vehicles manufactured December 23, 2005, to February 13, 2009. Due to corrosion inside the antil-lock brake system (ABS) unit, one or more of the internal valves may seize. In a braking event that uses the ABS, a seized valve would increase brake pedal travel and reduce braking ability.
- Consequence: A sudden reduction of braking performance may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, flush and clean the ABS hydraulic unit using high grade brake fluid, free of charge. If the inspection shows that the valves may seize, the ABS unit will be replaced. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my '97 Spyder. I bought it used in '99 and I have to say, I absolutely love it! Even after 6 years, it still turns heads and people often stop me to ask about it. It's been a reliable car for me and I plan on driving it for many more years. Plus, it's been great in all kinds of weather, even in bad snowstorms (with snow tires, of course). Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I looked at several convertibles before deciding on the Spyder. In the end, it was a choice between the Spyder and the MINI S. The Spyder won out due to its tonneau top, superior AC, and much more comfortable seats. Although the MINI S is a quicker and tighter ride, I didn't want to pay the hefty premium. The GT has plenty of power, but it doesn't really kick in until the RPMs hit 4,000. That's why I prefer the TAC on the left where I can see it. It comes in handy when playing with the Sportronic AT while driving with the top down and Rockford system UP. If you're considering the Spyder, I recommend going for the leather seats with the heating option. I borrowed a cloth seat overnight and sorely missed the warmth.

Hi everyone, if you're looking to stop leaks in your car, I have a great tip for you! Head over to Walmart and check out the camping section. You'll find a waterproofer there with an orange top on the can that only costs 4 dollars. Simply spray your car twice with it and you'll never have to worry about driving in the rain again! Trust me, it's amazing!

Just kidding. I was lucky enough to find a great value. I purchased a well-maintained Spyder from 2004 with only 52,000 miles. This car is not only reliable, but also beautiful and enjoyable to drive. I am satisfied with the gas mileage and absolutely adore the style, especially with the top down. The sound system and cockpit gauges are impressive, and the bucket seats and handling make for an incredible driving experience. To me, this car is like a poor man's Ferrari. I plan on taking excellent care of it, starting with the 60,000 mile maintenance. Although it will cost around $1500 for the timing belt, water pump, etc., I don't mind at all because this car is so much fun and so attractive. I hope to keep it running smoothly until it becomes a classic, which should be soon, within the next decade.

This car has had some issues with oil leakage from the beginning, and the top has rubbed through due to lack of support rail padding. The factory radio stopped working in the second year, and most of the interior plastic has cracked and needed replacement. The driver's side door switch panel fell inside the door one day. The front hub splines did not have anti-seize, which made them difficult to remove and caused damage. The timing belt replacement cost is over $700 every 60K miles. The car also lacks a drip edge on the roof, which causes rain to leak onto the seats when opening doors. The soft top and headliner had to be replaced after 4 years, and I went with aftermarket Kee tops and a local upholstery shop.

This car has horrible performance. However, if you're looking for excellent styling, the GS-T is a great option. It's one of the best looking cars on the road, even compared to BMWs and other luxury cars. While the rear seats may not be the most comfortable, the car is still a great choice for those who prioritize style and performance.

In the first two years of owning this new vehicle, I've unfortunately experienced a few issues. The horn, headlight hard wiring, convertible roof motor, radio, and a speaker have all needed repairs. Additionally, the headlight hard wiring needs to be replaced again. It's been a bit disappointing, but I'm hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon.

I am confident that the issues with my car are due to defects rather than any fault of my own. Despite the cracked dash and small fracture cracks on the rear front spoiler, the car has been no problem since I purchased it as a repo. I initially replaced the top, rear bushings, and front bumper, all under warranty. Although it is a cheap car, it looks good and is fun to drive on a nice day. With my expertise, I am certain that these issues can be resolved with the proper attention.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my '07 Eclipse Spyder that I bought in June. It was great until I had an incident in September where one of the rear Bridgestone tires separated the tread at only 2,400 miles. It was quite scary, and I'm grateful that it wasn't on the front where I could have been injured. Unfortunately, when I went back to the dealer, they said it wasn't covered under warranty and directed me to Bridgestone. Although Bridgestone did replace the tire, they didn't cover the damaged rim. It's frustrating that Mitsubishi put defective tires on their new cars, and I wish the dealer had been more receptive to this dangerous condition. Despite this, I still love my vehicle, but I don't trust my life to the tires anymore. I've decided to use my own money to replace all four tires now. Thanks for listening to my story!
