The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.

The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.

According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.

At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.

In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

  • Model: Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder 2009
  • Report Received Date: 2015-06-02
  • Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
  • Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Eclipse vehicles manufactured April 20, 2005, to February 13, 2009, and 2007-2009 Eclipse Spyder vehicles manufactured December 23, 2005, to February 13, 2009. Due to corrosion inside the antil-lock brake system (ABS) unit, one or more of the internal valves may seize. In a braking event that uses the ABS, a seized valve would increase brake pedal travel and reduce braking ability.
  • Consequence: A sudden reduction of braking performance may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, flush and clean the ABS hydraulic unit using high grade brake fluid, free of charge. If the inspection shows that the valves may seize, the ABS unit will be replaced. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-15-004.

I'm so glad to hear that you've had fun driving this car! However, I understand that there have been a few issues that you've encountered. It seems that the car loses value quite quickly, and the front end has been prone to damage. Additionally, the tires wear out quickly and the insurance can be quite expensive. Despite these challenges, it's great to hear that the car has been reliable for you in the short term. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

This car has horrible performance. However, if you're looking for excellent styling, the GS-T is a great option. It's one of the best looking cars on the road, even compared to BMWs and other luxury cars. While the rear seats may not be the most comfortable, the car is still a great choice for those who prioritize style and performance.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my third convertible car. I've had two Sebring Convertibles before this one, but unfortunately, this car has given me some trouble. I've had to spend quite a bit of money on repairs, which has been frustrating. Some of the issues I've had include a rear differential pressure sensor short, a blown center speaker, and a total new set of rims because they bend easily. I also had to replace the instrument panel and center stack light, as well as a fog lamp. It's been a bit of a headache, especially since the rear differential pressure sensor blew due to a mistake made by a Mitsubishi dealer mechanic who left off the radiator hose. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my convertible and hope to have better luck with it in the future.

I have experienced several issues with this car, including problems with the antenna, a loose seat, and chipping paint on the hood. Despite multiple visits to the service department, these issues have persisted. As a loyal Mitsubishi customer, I am disappointed with the quality of this vehicle and it is unlikely that I will purchase another one in the future.

I purchased this car back in 2000 and unfortunately, I have had a lot of issues with it. To keep it brief, the top has been leaking and I had to spend $1,000 for a new one, but it still doesn't go back smoothly. Additionally, the window/door lock controller has fallen into the door panel twice, costing $120 each time to repair. The A/C also went out, which cost $450 to replace, and the cam sensor went out at around 40,000 miles, causing the car to shut down and costing $200 to fix. Along with these repairs, I have had to have the car towed a total of 9 times in the past 2 years, which has been quite costly. It's up to you to decide if buying the Eclipse Spyder is worth it, but I wanted to share my experience with you.

We purchased the Spyder as a convertible to leave at our lake house and it has been a pleasant surprise. It is great fun to drive and looks stunning in black, receiving many compliments. We consider it money well spent. The car is still performing well and we plan on keeping it for a long time. We have had no issues with it and always enjoy driving it. We had to repair the A/C due to a common problem with these cars, but it was expected as the car is 13 years old. The car is currently sleeping in the garage at the lake, waiting for us to return for another summer of top-down fun. We are still feeling good about the car and are glad we bought it. It has plenty of power with its V6 engine and the top still looks great and operates properly. We refer to it as our 'Lake Car' and it has not disappointed us.It sounds like you're all set for another great summer with your car! From what you've shared, it seems like it's been running smoothly and you've had some wonderful top-down days with it. It's great to hear that the A/C works well and keeps you cool on those hot days. I hope you have another fantastic season with your car when you return in April!

This car is really impressive! Although it may leave something to be desired in its bone stock form, it has great handling. By adding an aftermarket strut bar and coilover style springs, you can make it even better. The interior is also very comfortable, with reclineable bucket seats and an easily accessible console. The exterior is one of the best things about this car, as it looks as aggressive as some of those $30k and up sports cars. Here's a little secret that not many people know: if you put the cylinder head from a turbo on this engine block, you can bolt-up the gst/gsx turbo and your non-turbo 2.4l spyder is now a turbo hp machine! Overall, it's a fantastic car!

This car has been amazing! With improved engine mods and meticulous care, it has clocked over 130k miles and is still running strong. I have owned it for a year and have never had any mechanical problems. Not only is it reliable for getting from A to B, but it's also a lot of fun to drive! The power added from a bigger turbo, intercooler, blow off valve, fuel injectors, air filter and exhaust will pin you in your seat and turn heads as you go. There are so many mods available, but the car looks great as it is and doesn't need any body modifications.

This car looks great from the outside, whether the top is up or down. It also boasts a good stock sound system and is comfortable for long rides.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. I got it for $700 as a replacement for my Suburban and it's been a great daily driver so far. If you don't drive too aggressively, it gets decent fuel economy too! The engine has 150,000 miles on it, but it still runs really well and it even passed smog in California with no issues. It's definitely a fun car to drive, especially considering it's over 13 years old! There are some cosmetic issues that I need to work on, but I'm not too worried since I'm mechanically inclined and have a great mechanic available to help me troubleshoot any minor issues. After all, every car has its quirks if it's not taken care of properly. Thanks for listening!
