IT TURNS OUT THAT THE BRAKE LINE(OR POSSIBLY MULTIPLE LINES) UNDER THE CAR RUPTURED AND CAUSED COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING FLUID(WHICH SPILLED OUT OF THE SYSTEM) AND THEREFORE COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY DISABLED AND AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS POSSIBLE DEFECT IN COMPONENTS AND/OR MANUFACTURING PROCESS. *KB

AFTER SOME $3,500 WE HAVE THE AUTO TRANSMISSION REPLACED, AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK - IT STARTS TO SELECT 4TH GEAR IN OVER DRIVE TO START ETC. ENDS U THAT THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER WENT HAYWIRE WHICH SENT THE TRANSMISSION INTO EARLY FAILURE. I THOUGHT I WAS JUST UNLUCKY UNTIL I STARTED REVIEWING THE COSTS FOR TRANSMISSION COMPUTERS ION THE WEB AND FOUND HUGE NUMBERS OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCES. MAZDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL OF THE ABOVE, PARTICULARLY WHERE THEY HAD BEEN THE ONES MAINTAINING THE UNIT OVER THE YEARS. IT IS A VERY POOR PERFORMANCE.

This car is really great! I know it's not a muscle car, but it can accelerate quite well. I've had this car for the last 12 years and at 227,000 miles, it's still going strong. The most money I've put into it was for a paint job, and that's it. I've never had to work on the engine except for plugs and belts. It's a fantastic car!

This car has been a reliable companion for the past 8 years, and I couldn't be happier with it. Like any vehicle with ~165k miles, it has required some maintenance such as a new radiator, tie rods, valve cover gasket, alternator, and water pump. However, it still runs smoothly and only burns a little oil. While it may not get as many miles per gallon at higher freeway speeds, I still average about 24 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving, which is better than most cars these days.

I purchased this car back in 2001 from a lovely elderly couple who had only driven it for 20K miles. Unfortunately, after just two weeks, one of the cylinders stopped working properly and I had to frequently change spark plugs and add engine oil due to the idle cylinder burning a lot of oil. Despite taking it to mechanics several times and trying various solutions such as changing all 12 valves and using chemicals to clean the cylinder, the issue persisted. Eventually, I made the decision to sell the car to avoid further expenses. While this experience has made me hesitant to purchase used cars in the future, I am grateful for the time I had with this one.

It's impressive that you've been able to keep it running so well with just regular oil changes and gas. You're getting great gas mileage too, with 30mpg city/34mpg hwy at cruise speeds of 72mph.
