Mazda 626 1995 problems
The Mazda Capella, also known as the 626 in Europe, North America and Southeast Asia, is a mid-size car that was manufactured by Mazda from 1970 until 2002. Sold in the Japanese domestic market under the Capella name, the vehicle was also commonly known in other major markets as the Mazda 626. Ford, Mazda's partner at the time, also used the Capella platform to create the Ford Telstar and Ford Probe. 4,345,279 of the 626 and Telstar models were sold worldwide.
Designed to compete against Japanese mid-size stalwarts such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Corona, and Nissan Bluebird, the Capella was succeeded by the Mazda6 (Atenza) in 2002.
The car was named after Capella, the brightest star in the constellation Auriga, the sixth-brightest in the night sky and the third-brightest in the northern celestial hemisphere, after Arcturus and Vega.

- Summary: I HAVE ONLY HAD MY CAR SINCE SEPT. 2007. IT IS A 1995 MAZDA 626 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I STARTED TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION SOON AFTER BUYING THE CAR. IT WOULD HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, ESPECIALLY IF I WAS PARKED ON A HILL. THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY WENT OUT COMPLETELY LAST SUNDAY WHEN I WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND TRIED TO REVERSE OUT OF THE SPACE. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS CAR, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT AT A GARAGE BEFORE PURCHASING AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. *TR

DROVE IT FOR 1-1/2 HOURS THEN DIDN'T WANT TO GO INTO REV AND WOULDN'T GO OUT OF 2ND GEAR. JUST FOUND OUT IT IS IN NEED OF AN AFTERMARKET COOLER AND AN EPC SOLENOID. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE FOUND OUT THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THIS IS MAZDA FAULT FOR USING A FORD TRANS. MAZDA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I WOULD NEVER OWN ANOTHER MAZDA OR FORD PRODUCT! *TR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-11-15
- VIN: 1YVGE22C9S5
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I BOUGHT THIS 1995 MAZDA 626 4 CYL VEHICLE USED AT 79K MILES. I RECENTLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION ROUTINELY SERVICED AGAIN AT A LOCAL GARAGE, INCLUDING YEARLY FLUID CHANGE, AND WITHIN JUST A FEW WEEKS THE TRANSMISSION LOST 2ND RANGE AND OVERDRIVE. ENGINE OVERSPEEDS BEFORE SHIFTING FROM 1ST INTO 3RD. I HAD TAKEN THIS CAR TO A PARR FORD/MAZDA DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR SAFETY CHECK AND OIL CHANGE, BUT THEY NEVER ONCE MENTIONED THE NEED FOR AN AFTERMARKET OIL COOLER. BUT WHEN I TOOK THE CAR BACK WITH THE TRANNY PROBLEM A FEW DAYS AGO, THEY TRIED TO SELL ME A REBUILT TRANNY FOR $3500 INSTALLED AND EMPHASIZED THAT THEY WOULD NOT INSTALL A REBUILT TRANNY WITHOUT ADDING AN AFTERMARKET OIL COOLER. NEVER ONCE DID PARR FORD/MAZDA MENTION INSTALLING AN AFTERMARKET TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER UNTIL AFTER THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. I CONSIDER THIS AN ACT OF GROSS NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART AND FEEL THEY OWE ME A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR

I have had this car for 7 years and I have never had a problem with it. It's amazing! I swear you would really have to try to break it. I want to give a big shoutout to Mazda for making such a reliable car. The car has conservative styling but looks good. It performs great and has amazing handling. I crush those crappy Civics with my V6 power. This car is simply the best!
-
This is a great car! Don't worry too much about the reviews mentioning transmission problems. As long as you maintain it properly, it should work just fine. I've owned mine for two years and have never had any issues. Plus, it's great on gas! I get about 27 MPG with mixed driving.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you've had a positive experience with your car! It sounds like you got a great deal on it, especially considering the low mileage. It's great to hear that you haven't had any issues with it so far, and I hope that continues for you. Thanks for sharing your experience!

First 50k miles were excellent for my car, but the next 20k were just average. Although I have been maintaining it on time, it has become quite noisy now. I also had to replace 2 O2 sensors, get a $250 brake job, and spend $300 on new mufflers. Overall, it is an average car, but it has been very reliable to date.
-
This car handles great and is built like a machine. It also has a nice V6 and provides ample cargo and passenger room. Additionally, it runs nice and smooth.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it in mid-September with 115,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I've had some trouble with the transmission and it stopped working after driving less than 2,000 miles. I would recommend avoiding the automatic option. Take care!
Joey Hickle 2024-11-04
I purchased the 626 from Don Rosen Mazda as a pre-owned certified car. However, I encountered several issues with the car, including a new transmission, broken glass in the door, a malfunctioning window, and various dents. Despite having to bring the car back 8 times, the dealership claimed to have lost the paperwork. Unfortunately, the dealership has since closed down and is now selling BMWs and Minis. The transmission has recently broken down, resulting in a cost of $2300. I am seeking advice on what actions I can take to address this situation.
Zackery Volkman 2024-10-05
Although I have experienced some challenges with this car, I have taken the necessary steps to maintain it and ensure its longevity. I have replaced several components, including the water pump, radiator, transmission, 02 sensor, mass air flow sensor, and brakes. While there have been some issues with the dash on the passenger side above the airbag due to sun damage, I have taken measures to address this. Overall, I am confident in my ability to maintain and improve the performance of this car.
Magnus Wuckert 2024-09-29
At around 80,000 miles, my Mazda 626 required a new transmission that cost $2000. Despite my diligent maintenance, the overall condition and quality of the car rapidly declined after about 50,000 miles. In addition to the transmission, I had to replace the instrument panel, several valves, and a faulty exhaust system. While I was disappointed with these issues, I believe that Mazda North America could improve its customer service. Overall, I would rate the quality of my Mazda 626 as a D.

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It's a shame to hear that you've had some trouble with the transmission on your car. From what you've said, it sounds like you've had to replace it a couple of times. That can definitely be frustrating! Personally, I've found that Honda and Nissan cars tend to have fewer problems and better quality overall. Of course, everyone's experience is different, so it's important to do your research and find a car that works for you. That being said, if you're willing to invest in a few repairs, this car could still be a decent option for you. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
