1991 Nissan Stanza problems
The Nissan Violet is a model of car that appeared in Japan in 1973, and was exclusive to Japanese Nissan dealerships called Nissan Cherry Store as a larger companion to the Nissan Cherry.
In 1977 the second generation arrived. This was split into two additional lines, the Nissan Auster and the Nissan Stanza. All three models bore the A10 series identifier, and were built in Japan at the Hiratsuka and Yokosuka assembly plants. The Stanza was exclusive to Japanese Nissan dealerships called Nissan Satio Store as a larger companion to the smaller Nissan Sunny, and the Auster triplet was exclusive to Nissan Prince Store locations as a larger companion to the Nissan Langley.
A new third generation front-wheel drive model was launched in 1981, changing the series name again to T11, and sharing its platform with the Compact MPV Nissan Prairie/Multi/Stanza Wagon. Final versions were Nissan Bluebirds series U12 rebadged for some international markets. In most export markets the car was originally sold as the Datsun 140J or 160J depending on the engine; this name was then gradually changed to Nissan Stanza in most markets in line with Nissan's phasing out of the Datsun brand in its export markets in the early 1980s; in Europe for instance it was sold as the "Datsun-Nissan Stanza" for a short time until the Datsun name was dropped completely in 1984.
The Stanza/Auster/Violet were discontinued in 1992. The Stanza was replaced by the Nissan Altima in North America; the Stanza was replaced by the Nissan Bluebird in Japan, and by the Primera in Europe.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2003-09-15
- VIN: JN1FU21P4MX
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

MY NISSAN STANZA ONLY HAS 133,000 ON IT AND I HAVE SEEN COMPLAINTS ON WEB FORUMS ABOUT 240SX WITH SAME KA24E SOHC MOTOR HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH LESS MILEAGE ON THEM. THEY SWITCHED TO THE KA24DE DOHC ENGINE IN LATER YEAR STANZA'S. I THINK THEY ALSO DID SO ON THE 240SX TOO, BUT NOT SURE WHICH YEARS THIS HAPPENED. I KNOW THE STANZA USED KA24E MOTOR FROM 1990 TO 1992 PRODUCTION YEARS AND THEN SWITCHED TO THE KA24DE AFTER WHICH COULD POSSIBLY HAVE DIFFERENT INJECTOR SETUP THEN THE KA24E WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE. *JB

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2000-01-14
- VIN: JN1FU21P5MT
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: FUEL INJECTOR(S) ARE LEAKING RAW FUEL. THE MANUFACTURER PRESENTLY HAS A RECALL CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS ON VARIOUS MAKES & MODELS UP TO 1988 MODEL YEAR. IT SEEMS TO ME TO BE A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO WHICH I AM EXPERIENCING ON MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER'S REP. I SPOKE TO AT THE RECALL CAMPAIGN TELEPHONE NUMBER STATING MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE PRESENT CAMPAIGN; I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT & HOPE FOR A POSSIBLE FUTURE RECALL CAMPAIGN ON MY VEHICLE. I AM WORRIED THAT CONDITION MAY BECOME WORSE UNTIL SUCH TIME AND POSE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 1999-12-04
- VIN: JN1FU21PXMT
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: THE FUEL INJECTORS ON MY 1991 NISSAN STANZA WERE LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I WAS SMELLING STRONG GASOLINE FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. AFTER AN INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THE GASOLINE SMELL WAS STRONGEST NEAR THE FUEL INJECTOR PORTS. NOT WANTING TO RISK AN ENGINE FIRE AND BREATHING OF GASOLINE FUMES - AND TO AVOID DANGER, I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTOMOBILE REPAIR SHOP WHICH CONFIRMED MY FEARS. I WAS SO TERRIFIED THAT THE CAR WOULD CATCH ON FIRE, I WOULD LOSE THE CAR AND CAUSE HARM TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. *AK

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 1998-11-25
- VIN: JN1FU21P4MT
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: I NOTICED A GAS SMELL SOME TIME AGO AND DID NOT THINK MUCH OF IT. IT WAS NOTICABLE WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, HOWEVER OTHER GAS POWERED EQUIPMENT WAS THERE WHICH COULD HAVE EMITTED AN ODOR. THINGS GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS I BEGAN TO SMELL GAS WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. FUMES APPARENTLY BEGAN LEAKING INTO THE CAR INTERIOR. FUEL INJECTORS SHOULD NOT LEAK IF DESIGNED PROPERLY. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE CAN CAUSE FIRE AND DEATH TO PEOPLE IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THERE SHOULD BE NO TOLERENCE FOR THIS TYPE OF DEFECT. IF CAR MANUFACTURERS SUCH AS NISSAN STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT THEN THEY WOULD BE QUICK TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION BEFORE IT CAUSED LIVES TO BE LOST.

- VIN: JN1FU21P1MT
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: CAN SMELL GAS INSIDE THE CAR; MECHANICS ADVISE ME THAT 3 OF THE 4 INJECTORS ARE LEAKING. THEY ADVISE REPLACEMENT. I NOTICE (FROM THE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS) THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM (AT LEAST 4 PEOPLE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT!). CONSIDERING THAT ENGINE COULD CATCH FIRE IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED, I AM WONDERING WHAT THE MANUFACTURER IS DOING TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS (AND EXPENSIVE) PROBLEM? GOING THROUGH NISSAN'S OWN "CONSUMER DISCUSSION THREAD" I NOTICE THAT FOR SOME PEOPLE, FULE-INJECTOR LEAK IS A RECURRING PROBLEM, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DESIGN ISSUE!

- Summary: SEVERAL WEEKS AGO MY MECHANIC ASKED IF I SMELLED GAS AT ANY TIME, HE LOOKED AND SAW THAT MY FUEL INJECTORS WERE LEAKING. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $600.00. I WENT LOOKING ON THE INTERNET TO GET INFORMATION ON FUEL INJECTORS TO SEE IF YOU CAN REPAIR THEM RATHER THAN REPLACE THEM. WELL I CAME ACROSS A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT SOME NISSAN MODELS THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THE SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT APART OF THEIR CAMPAIGN. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT YOUR OFFICE TO FILE A COMPLAINT, I WOULD LIKE FOR SOME ONE TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS THE SAME EXACT MODEL THAT I HAVE, THAT CAUGHT FIRE TWO MONTHS AGO. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE INDIVIDUAL TO GET THE DETAILS OF ITS CAUSE, BUT WILL PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION AT A LATER DATE. PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT STEPS TO TAKE NEXT. THANK YOU LUTHER BELL

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my '91 Stanza. I bought it from a friend 5 years ago when it was already 9 years old, but it has been an incredibly reliable car. I've only had to do a few repairs, like fixing a rocker arm for $100 and replacing the battery and brake pads. However, I recently decided to sell it because there was a strong raw gas fume/exhaust smell that two mechanics couldn't figure out. I think the CV joints rusted out because I stopped taking the car to the car wash, but that's just my guess. Living by the ocean in a heavy snowfall/road salt area can be tough on cars! Despite these issues, I still think it's a wicked good car.
-
I purchased this Stanza as a second vehicle and it has been a great investment. Despite having more miles on it than any other car I've owned, it has been incredibly reliable. In fact, it has cost me less in repairs than some new vehicles have in their first 20k miles. I feel confident taking it on long trips and it accelerates quicker than I expected. I've only had to replace one tire and keep up with oil changes. It may not be a flashy car, but it has saved me a lot of money and I really enjoy driving it around.
-
Around 200,000 miles, the transmission wore out. However, if you're looking for a great town car for a small family on a tight budget, this is the car for you! I've even seen a 1991 Nissan Stanza GXE with over 500,000 miles on it, with only one engine and transmission. It's incredibly dependable, like the Energizer Bunny, maybe even more so.
-
I've owned this used car since 1993 when it had 37000 miles. Since then, I've added 200,000 miles and, knock on wood, I've never experienced any problems with it. I truly believe that Nissan makes great engines and this car has made me a believer. It's definitely a great car for the ages!
-
Hi there! I noticed that you're looking for a second car for your spouse's shopping needs. I wanted to let you know that the car you're currently considering has been well-maintained, with regular oil and filter changes every 3000 miles. The only updates it needs are new tires, a new battery, and new brakes. Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can help you with!

When I bought it, the car had 70K miles on it. The previous owner kept it in great shape, and I didn't have to invest much into it. But the darn car just keeps going! I recently sold it for $800 at 135K miles. It really is a great car!

The Stanza is an enjoyable car to drive, with the 2.4L engine providing ample power. While the handling is average, the comfort and fit and finish are also satisfactory. Unfortunately, the reliability of this Nissan model is subpar, as evidenced by my personal experience of spending $4,000 on repairs in just one year.
