Common 2019 Lexus Rx350 problems

The Lexus RX350, a luxury SUV, has been well-received for its reliability, but like any vehicle, it can encounter problems. This article examines common issues reported by owners across various model years.

Battery Issues

Battery problems are common among Lexus RX350 vehicles, particularly in earlier models. The issue is typically resolved by replacing the battery with a new one. While this is a relatively inexpensive fix, recurring battery issues can add up over time, increasing maintenance costs.

Cracking Dashboard

Dashboard cracking was initially observed in the 2007 model year, primarily due to the plastic material used in the dashboard's construction. This problem affects not only the vehicle's appearance but can also interact with the airbag system, exposing internal wiring or creating uncomfortable areas on the dashboard.

Oil Leaks

Another common issue with the Lexus RX350 is engine oil leaks, particularly in early models. These leaks can be severe, requiring engine sealing or replacement. Later models have seen a reduction in oil leak frequency, but they can still occur. Severe oil leaks can make it difficult to maintain the vehicle correctly and are usually expensive to repair.

Steering Problems

One of the most significant safety concerns with the early Lexus RX350 models is steering problems, specifically issues with the rack and pinion. This problem can lead to a complete loss of steering control, making it both a safety concern and a costly repair, often exceeding $1,600.

Battery Failures

Battery failures are another common issue with the Lexus RX350, although less expensive to address than some other problems. This issue is more prevalent in earlier models but can still occur in later versions. Replacing the battery is typically the solution to this problem.

Rain-Sensing Windshield

The rain-sensing windshield feature, designed to enhance the driving experience, has been a source of problems for some Lexus RX350 owners. Faulty rain sensors have been reported, particularly in the 2017 redesign, causing issues with wiper speed control and efficiency, especially at night.

Wandering Steering Wheel

Some owners of the 2015 Lexus RX350 have reported a wandering steering wheel, which can be caused by various factors, including mismatched tires, uneven tire pressure, loose steering gear or linkage, suspension problems, excessive wheel toe-out, and steering gear binding.

SRS Warning Light

An illuminated supplemental restraints system (SRS) warning light has been a common issue in many 2007-2010 and 2013-2014 RX350s. This problem can be caused by a depleted airbag backup battery, faulty sensors, damaged airbag clock springs, or a wet airbag module. If you suspect a similar issue in your vehicle, it's best to have it checked by a licensed mechanic to get a proper diagnosis.

In conclusion, while the Lexus RX350 is known for its reliability, it has encountered various issues across its model years. These problems range from minor inconveniences, such as dashboard cracking and battery failures, to more significant safety concerns, like steering issues and engine failures. It's essential for potential buyers to be aware of these common problems and consider them when choosing a model year.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-16
  • VIN: 2T2ZZMCA5KC
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: My vehicle has an intermittent check engine light along with an ICS malfunction code that pops up on the dashboard. The car doesn’t want to turn on after every gas fill up. After taking my car to a couple of independent shops, they determined that the issue with the car was the high pressure fuel pump. The suggested, I take it to the dealer as there was TSB bulletin on it. Furthermore I still had the letter from Lexus stating the issue. The local dealership refused to do the work and suggested other work after charging a huge amount for the car inspection. Lexus Corp wouldn’t help on the matter. There are 4 other complaints on this same issue and the dealers and the Plexus Corp are getting away with not calling this an actual recall because the government hasn’t stepped in.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-30
  • VIN: 2T2BGMCA5KC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I’ve approximately the last 45 thousand miles, Lexus dealers have replaced the brake actuator and other components of the brake system on this vehicle at least 6 times due to noise issues. Lexus has stated that this is not a safety issue, I have an open ticket with Lexus, but yesterday I had to slam on the brakes and did not get nearly the response that should have come right away. There are no warning lights, as far as I can tell the traction control didn’t engage, and eventually the car suddenly started breaking much harder, but it was very delayed l, and disproportionate with any additional force applied. Lexus knows the brake system is an issue in this model to the point where they are covering the system for 10 years or 150,000 miles, but to say that it isn’t a safety issue seems short-sighted. This system works in conjunction with the radar sensors adaptive cruise control, and I’ve had. This car has also had a number of seeming electrical issues, with every door lock actuator replaced at least once, some of them more than once, and the infotainment system shuts down and reboots randomly or freezes.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-13
  • VIN: 2T2ZZMCAXKC
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: AC doesn't work properly. We had several incidences when we were driving from Houston (TX) to Dallas (TX) in hot summer. The AC worked well when we left Houston, however it stopped blowing cool air when we were in the middle of nowhere on highway. The air became warmer and warmer, and there isn't anyway that we can adjust the air volume nor to cool it down. We took our car to Lexus dealer for diagnosis and nothing unusual was detected. The dealer suspect the cool air clogged in condenser that blocked cool air from entering the cabin. This is truly a safety concerns to all Lexus owners. When we drive on highway, in the middle of nowhere in hot summer, the car cannot provide a comfortable environment to driver and passengers, especially for babies or older passengers. It's a safety design flaw with Lexus RX350.

The problem persisted which resulted in black mold in the carpet and footwell insulation beneath the carpet. Lexus service advisers insisted the ac drainage line was clogged by a spiderweb but the picture they took didn’t show any spiderweb. After researching many Lexus forums, it seems like a common problem and many other people were given the same excuse of a spiderweb clogging the drainage line that also resulted in mold. Lexus doesn’t seem to want to take responsibility for the problem and rather blame a spider. They estimated $10,000 to replace the carpet and fix the problem. Other people on forums were also quoted $8,000-$15,000 as well.

Negative 2019 Lexus Rx350 car reviews

  1. David Feeney 2025-01-08

Although there are some areas that could be improved, such as the engine and wind noise, overall the car has a lot of great features. The heated steering wheel is a nice touch, and the instrumentation, audio, and navigation controls are easy to use once you get the hang of them. While the rear visibility could be better, the car is still a pleasure to drive. Although the tonneau cover can be a bit tricky to remove, it's a small price to pay for the convenience of having a spacious back seat for your furry friend. While it may not be the cheapest option on the market, the car is definitely worth the investment. I highly recommend giving it a try!

I have driven several Lexus RX350 loaners while my GS350 was in for service. Although I was disappointed with some aspects of the car, such as the uncomfortable seats, cheap feeling interior, unreadable GPS screen in sunlight, lousy stereo, and lack of paddle shifters, I did find the engine, handling, and brakes to be okay. The exterior styling may not be to everyone's taste, but it's a matter of personal preference. Overall, the car may not be as impressive as the original LS400, but it does offer reliability and good dealer service, which are important factors to consider when making a purchase.

Choosing between an Acura and Lexus was tough, but I ultimately went with the Lexus. However, I've been disappointed to find that I don't have access to some of the luxury features I paid for, such as the Lexus app, navigation, and remote start. As someone who's used to having these features in my previous cars, it's been a bit of a letdown. I wish I had made a must-have list before making my purchase. It's important to do your research and make sure you're getting the features you want and need in a luxury car.

This SUV is great, but I was a bit disappointed to find that it only has two SUB Ports, especially for a luxury vehicle. The light grey color of the seats is nice, but I was hoping for a darker shade. The ride is incredibly smooth, which I love. However, I have had some trouble with the bells and whistles of the car, such as the confusing beeping when changing lanes. The Scout navigation has also been a bit of a letdown, especially since I live in a rural area with poor internet and phone connection. I worry about my safety when driving alone on these long, dark roads. Although I have been a loyal Lexus owner for over 25 years, I am disappointed with the 2019 RX 350 and am considering trading it in for a vehicle that will make me feel safer. I would love to see Lexus update Scout with street guidance instead of just turn-by-turn voice directions, so I can have a better sense of where I am while driving. Additionally, I hope that Lexus can update the 2019 RX 350 to include CarPlay. It's a shame that Lexus is behind in their technology, but I still appreciate the smooth ride and overall quality of the vehicle.

My 2012 Lexus had parking assist, but unfortunately, this 2019 RX 350 does not have it. I miss it, but overall, it is a great car and I love it.

The Ford Edge provided a smoother ride than this vehicle, which has a subpar navigation system and overly firm front seats.

I've had a great experience with Lexus dealerships. They really make an effort to ensure your comfort, even while you're spending money. I love driving my SUV and I often receive compliments on it. Some drivers argue whether a Lexus is comparable to a Mercedes, but in my opinion, they are both high-end cars. However, I prefer Lexus because it requires very little maintenance - just tire rotations and oil changes. Mercedes Benz, on the other hand, tends to spend a lot of time in the shop.

I have a 2013 Lexus RX350 that just turned 100,000 miles and all I have done is routine maintenance plus brakes front and rear, and rear struts. So, I decided to lease a 2019 Lexus RX350 and traded in a 2012 Lexus IS250. I absolutely love the Satin Cashmere exterior color with the light saddle interior with the chocolate accents. This one has the running boards and roof rails and 20-inch nice rims and Michelin tires. The gas mileage has been averaging 24 with as high as 28 on a couple of road trips. I found the info system easier to get used to than I thought. The ride is amazing on the freeways with very little road noise. I always drive the vehicle in 'D' and not Eco mode. It has been 2 years with the Lexus since September 13th, 2019, and I have only needed routine maintenance. I will definitely be purchasing this vehicle at the end of the lease.

I am absolutely loving my new car! I have seen some complaints about the nav system and its interface, but I have had no issues with it at all. In fact, I think it's the best system out there! If anyone is having trouble setting it up, I would recommend going to the dealer for assistance. I have owned many vehicles (I still own 7!) and this one is by far the most aesthetically pleasing compared to my previous Dodge Challenger and Lincoln. It also has more functionality, which is great. The only minor issue I have encountered is that I had to slow down around corners, but it still handles well. Of course, it's not the same as my GS 350 that I traded in, but I believe that once the engine breaks in, my mileage will improve even more! 😁

I used to own a Nissan Armada and was looking to downsize from that beast (which I was happy with overall). After test driving several mid-sized SUVs, the RX was the last one I drove. As soon as I sat in one, I fell in love with it! The luxury SUVs are packed with technology, and this Lexus had everything I needed. Although I thought I would want the Apple car-play that I had experience with on a Cadillac rental, the large screen, the Nav system that I happen to like (navigation on the Nissan sucked IMO), and the Enforma app on the RX, it does everything that I need. My iPhone and music from my phone work well with the RX. The driving performance is great, and I spend a lot of time in Sport mode and am very satisfied with acceleration in that mode. Although it's a little sluggish acceleration-wise in Eco mode, that's why the Sport mode exists, right? I play music and occasionally have to haul a small PA and a couple of guitars, and there are no problems there. It's no Armada in terms of space, though I was pleasantly surprised at how roomy the rear hatch is (no third-row seat in this model). I only have one minor complaint, which is that the remote start function relies strictly on the Enforma app, which has an $80 per year cost. However, if I was going to complain about $80, I wouldn't be buying a Lexus. Overall, I have no real complaints. It has a great look, and I have received lots of compliments on the exterior lines. The folks at Mungenast Lexus in St. Louis were awesome and took good care of me in the delivery and going over the features. If you are over 50, take the time to let the dealer tech person show you everything. I'm a happy guy!
