Common 2021 Lexus Rx350 problems

Common Problems with the Lexus RX350 2021:

  • Transmission issues: Some users have complained about the transmission trying to upshift too soon, causing the engine to bog down and then shift back down suddenly. This can lead to hesitation during acceleration, making it difficult to merge or overtake other vehicles.
  • Road noise: Some owners have reported that the 2021 Lexus RX350 has a loud exhaust noise and road noise, which can be distracting and uncomfortable during long drives. This is especially noticeable when harshly accelerating or driving on rough roads.
  • Dashboard cracking: In the early models of the Lexus RX350, including the 2021 model, there were issues with the dashboard cracking. This can be a cosmetic issue, but in some cases, it can interact with the airbag system or create rough or uncomfortable areas on the dashboard.
  • Oil leaks: The engine of the Lexus RX350 seems prone to oil leaks, which can be expensive to repair and maintain. In early models, these leaks were severe, and many consumers chose to pay for repairs and to have the engines sealed rather than paying for extra oil to handle the leaks.
  • Steering problems: One of the biggest safety problems with the early releases of the Lexus RX350 is that the rack and pinion sometimes start to fail, which can cause the car to pull to one side or the other. Replacing the part is the only way to repair this problem, which usually costs upwards of $1,600.
  • Battery failures: Another common problem with the Lexus RX350 is that the battery may fail prematurely. This can be an inconvenience, as it may leave the driver stranded and require a replacement battery.

It is important to note that not all 2021 Lexus RX350 owners will experience these problems, and some may not experience any issues at all. However, these are common complaints that have been reported by some owners of the 2021 model.

Negative 2021 Lexus Rx350 car reviews

The 2021 Rx 350 has a significant issue with its interiors. Even a light scuff or rub from a tennis shoe against the door panel while getting in or out can leave a permanent mark. This problem also extends to the dash and dash trim, as evidenced by the scuff mark caused by a shopping bag rubbing against it. Despite my efforts to keep my vehicles looking new, the dealer even damaged the dash above the instrument cluster. It is disappointing that Lexus has not yet addressed this user-unfriendly aspect of their interiors. This being our second RX350, it is unlikely that we will purchase another one.

Hi there! I noticed that you recently traded in your 2015 Rx for a 2021 Rx. While the new model may have some great safety and technology features, it sounds like you're missing the luxurious feel of your old Rx. It's always tough to adjust to a new car, especially when it doesn't feel quite as spacious as your previous one. Have you considered looking at other similar SUVs to see if there's a better fit for you? Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

  3. Quinton Walter 2025-06-18

I have owned three Lexus vehicles in the past and have never encountered any issues. However, my new 2021 Lexus RX350 AWD purchased in June has been experiencing hesitation during acceleration, which has almost led to several crashes. If this issue persists, I may have to consider trading it in for a different vehicle. I am disappointed with the current performance of my Lexus.

  5. Max Emard 2025-04-01

The 2018 model was traded in, but unfortunately, the overall experience was a downgrade. The transmission at low to mid gear shift was the worst aspect, and there was a slight fit mismatch between the interior and exterior components. It is possible that this is due to a shift towards more American factory works and less Japanese build. As a Lexus fan, this was a very disappointing experience.

Positive 2021 Lexus Rx350 car reviews

If you're in the market for a luxury SUV that offers great comfort, quality materials, and proven reliability, with low maintenance costs and the best service department of all manufacturers, then the Lexus RX350 is the perfect vehicle for you. However, if you're looking for something sporty with road feel and the ability to pull 1.05 g's around a figure 8, then the RX350 may not be the right choice for you. After spending an entire day test driving various trim levels of the RX350, I came away with one distinct impression: the F Sport trim is not worth it. The F Sport tries to make the RX350 something it's not by adding less comfortable seats with too much bolstering and a slightly worse ride quality. While it does add some nice aesthetic touches and a digital speedometer screen, my primary focus when buying a Lexus is comfort and quality. If I were worried about sportiness, I would buy a Porsche. Also, the digital speedometer on the F Sport should really be standard on all trims. In the end, I decided to purchase a 'base' RX 350 for $54k. It's optioned fairly well with everything I need. Frankly, I couldn't hear the difference in the Mark Levision audio system from the Premium audio system, but I'm not an audiophile. I do have the larger infotainment screen, which is nice. It also came with the 20-inch rims, which look great and don't appear to affect the ride quality very much at all. I've been averaging 24 MPG, which isn't too bad, considering I do about 75% freeway driving in my daily commute. I have only found a few minor cons. There is no way to display the speed in the small digital display, and I feel it's much easier to see a digital speedometer than an analog one. The digital speedometer display from the F Sport should be standard. The video feed from the rear camera could stand to be a little more crisp as well. Lastly, the infotainment screen is a touch screen, which is great, but it's a little hard to reach for an average-sized person like me (I'm 5'10'').It would be great if Wireless Apple CarPlay and the Android equivalent were available, if not standard. The wireless charging pad could be better placed, perhaps integrated into the little phone holder. The cruise control system still uses an old-fashioned stock, and it seems unnecessary to include a CD player when most people won't use it. However, these are minor issues that shouldn't deter you from purchasing this car. Overall, it's an excellent vehicle for the price. If you're looking for sportiness, you might want to consider a Porsche or BMW, but keep in mind their high maintenance and repair costs.

I traded my 2017 Mercedes for a 2021 Lexus RX 350. No regrets.

  3. Edwardo Miller 2025-08-20

Great SUV! It's so reliable and safe.

  4. Rocky Waelchi 2025-06-21

I've only had the car for a week, but I'm already impressed with the RX. It's a significant upgrade from my 2018 Volvo XC60, with a smoother, quieter, and more comfortable ride. The little features that come with the RX, like the electrically adjustable steering wheel and the memory seating position, really appeal to me. The Mark Levenson sound system is the best I've ever heard in any car, and the trackpad is surprisingly easy to use. The RX is everything I expected it to be - quiet, smooth, and comfortable. Even when I drove over a badly patched section of road, the ride was still like a pillow top mattress thanks to the 20” Michelin tires. My RX came with the luxury package, heads up display, heated and cooled seats, triple beam LED headlights, panoramic moonroof and leather upholstery. It's a well put together package with all the luxury features I wanted, without the high price tag of German cars. As someone who has owned four Lexuses over the years, I always seem to come back to this brand.

Congratulations on your new car! I can tell you've been waiting for this moment for a long time. The model you chose is the fourth generation and it might be updated in 2023. It's important to note that the car was designed with comfort in mind, so you can expect a smooth and quiet ride with comfortable seating. The fit and finish are suburb and the car has a luxurious feel. While it may not be the fastest car out there, the acceleration is more than adequate. The handling is secure and the car feels right at home cruising at 70+mph, making for a relaxing ride. The 'Entune' system may take some getting used to, but with hands-on practice, it's definitely learnable. And of course, Toyota is known for its reliability, which is a huge bonus. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new car for years to come. If you ever have any issues, I'm confident that Toyota will take care of you. Enjoy the ride!
