- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023 Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, 2023 Lexus RX350, RX350 Hybrid, RX500 Hybrid, 2023-2024 Lexus NX250, NX350, and NX350 Hybrid vehicles. An electrical connection inside the steering column's spiral cable assembly may be insufficiently welded, causing the connection to separate and deactivate the driver's air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: A deactivated driver's air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the spiral cable assembly, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 8, 2023. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 23TA08. Lexus' number for this recall is 23LA02.

I traded my 2020 Lexus RX 450h for a 2023 RX 350 and I'm disappointed with my decision. The new model has replaced all the convenient controls with difficult-to-find ones. Although Lexus claims a one mpg gain with the 4 cyl over the previous V6, the new engine requires premium gas which costs an additional 60 cents per gallon over regular. This means that the customer ends up losing out.

I recently purchased a 2022 RX350 and it has been an excellent vehicle for me and my wife. However, after test driving the 2023 model, I have some concerns. While driving on the highway, I accidentally bumped the shifter with my arm and it shifted from drive to neutral, which was unexpected and concerning. Additionally, I found it less intuitive to switch between drive and reverse when parking in tight spots. The passenger door opening push button also required multiple attempts to open, unlike the handle on my 2022 model which works great. Lastly, I found the paint on the 2023 model to be less rich than that of my 2022 model. Despite these concerns, the ride quality was similar in both vehicles. Overall, I prefer the look and feel of the dash and controls on my 2022 model over the 2023 model.

Basic tasks are too difficult to perform. The constant communication with your cell phone drains its battery in a matter of hours. False alarms occur daily, making you feel like a guest in your own car as it fails to recognize your cell phone. However, the car runs smoothly once it gets cruising. The interior is comfortable and durable. The gas mileage on the highway is better than advertised, but not so much in the city. The car's fit and finish could be improved, with issues such as fish-eyes in the paint and inconsistent spacing on the door panels. The gas door also sticks out. Unfortunately, the car has had to be boosted three times, and Lexus is unsure why. This new model has not left a good impression, and my insurance rates have increased due to the likelihood of theft. Despite the common belief that Lexus holds its value well, I was offered $36G less than what I paid for it after only 4 months. However, I am confident that I will be able to trade it in soon and move on from this experience.
