Common 2022 Lexus Rx350 problems

The 2022 Lexus RX350 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include engine warning lights, oil leaks, and steering problems.

One owner reported that their brand new Lexus RX350 2023 had engine warning lights on at just 1000 miles. They took it in for service, and the dealership drained the oil and replaced the oil filter. However, at 2000 miles, the same lights came on again. The owner is now having to have it repaired again and was told that Lexus is aware of these problems and a handful of customers have had this happen. The parts that need to be replaced include the front oil pump/crank seal, fipg form in place gasket maker, exhaust cam gear, exh cam filter/bolt, exh cam solenoid w o-ring mounting bolt, valve cover gasket, and high pressure fuel pump gasket on valve cover.

Another common problem with the Lexus RX350 is oil leaks. The engine seems prone to oil leaks, especially in early models. These leaks were severe, and many consumers chose to pay for repairs and to have the engines sealed rather than paying for extra oil to handle the leaks. Severe oil leaks can make it hard to maintain your vehicle correctly, and unfortunately, they are also usually relatively expensive to pay for and repair. The good news is, like most of the problems with the early RX 350, later models got away from this problem, and the oil leaks got less noticeable even when they happened.

Steering problems are also a significant safety concern with the Lexus RX350. The rack and pinion sometimes start to fail, which is both a huge safety concern and a relatively expensive fix. Replacing the part is the only way to repair this problem, which usually costs upwards of $1,600. Since this problem is a little unpredictable and seems to be common under 100k miles, that’s a pretty significant repair to need relatively early in owning the vehicle.

These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the 2022 Lexus RX350. It is essential to be aware of these issues before purchasing this vehicle to make an informed decision.

I spent months researching for the perfect mid-size SUV to replace my full-size SUV, one that would last for at least 10 years. After careful consideration, I decided on the RX due to Lexus' reputation for superior quality and reliability. I found the exterior and interior styling to be very appealing, and the technology, including the navigation and safety features, to be top-notch. However, after driving the vehicle for a week, I noticed that the ride was not as smooth as I had hoped, and the transmission was jerky and surged, especially at lower speeds. Additionally, there were some squeaks and rattles coming from multiple places, and the rearview mirror on the driver's side vibrated, making it difficult to use. I brought these issues to the dealer, but was told that the transmission was

I relied on Lexus for their quality and reliability. After test driving many 2022 RX 350s, I told the dealer exactly what I wanted and they found it for me. Unfortunately, I didn't test drive this particular vehicle when it was brought in from MA to NJ because I had already driven many of the same model. However, I've noticed that this vehicle shudders between 10 and 35 miles an hour and my personal mechanic said the gears are rubbing. When I took it to Lexus, they said that this is normal, but I'm not convinced. Interestingly, when I've had loaner cars of the same year and make during my service appointments, they don't have this issue. I had the Lexus mechanic drive it with me and he said he heard and felt the vibration too, but when they brought the Lexus engineer in, he said it was normal. I'm disappointed that I'm not enjoying my new car as much as I should be and I'm considering my options.

The heating steering should warm the entire steering wheel, not just the 10 & 2 position. It is disappointing that it currently does not.

I initially leased an IS350 F-Sport as a treat for myself, but after a year, I regretted my decision due to its small size. Despite being of average build (6'1, 170lbs), the car felt cramped. During its 10k service, I was given a base RX350 loaner with 16k miles and was pleasantly surprised by its similar driving experience to the IS, but with the added benefit of SUV size. I missed the SUV size so much that I decided to trade in the IS and lease a base RX. After almost a year and close to 10k miles, I can say that I do like the RX. However, there are a few issues that I have encountered. Firstly, the seats are not as comfortable as I would expect from a luxury SUV. During long trips, I have had to adjust myself several times due to the oddly firm seat. Secondly, the MPG is hit or miss. Although I have gotten 24-25 mpg, it requires driving over an hour at 65 mph. At 75-80 mph, it falls to 22-23 mpg quite quickly. Most of the time, I'm getting 20 mpg on my short 10-15 minute drive to work, which is 95% highway. I have never gotten the quoted 26 mpg. Lastly, the steering wheel is not to my liking. I find the mostly wood steering wheel uncomfortable to hold, especially when driving with one hand at the 10 position. Sometimes it's more comfortable at the 12 position, but I'm just not a fan of the wood feel. Also, being that it’s made of wood, the heat feature is kind of pointless because you HAVE to hold the leather sides to get the benefit 🤦🏻‍♂️ Other than those things, I must say that it’s been a great vehicle and I really appreciate the space. It’s absolutely one of the finest driving experiences I’ve ever had in ANY vehicle. The engine/transmission combo is absolutely BUTTER smooth. You basically do not ever feel shifts while driving and for an 8 speed transmission 👏🏻 kudos to Lexus engineers on that! Moreover, I have to say, I’ve been absolutely spoiled by the “auto” everything in the vehicle. You name it, it’s got an auto setting. High/low beams, windows, heat/ac, wipers, heated/cooled SEATS! Auto everything! You get in and drive and don’t have to think about anything! It’s damn nice! So, why am I looking at a truck?? Well, because I’ve wanted one for a while now. I actually wanted one when I got the RX but Lexus doesn’t make trucks. So I got the RX which did remedy the space issue of the IS. But, for the reasons I gave above, mostly the lack of seat comfort, I’m looking into a truck. And mpg figures these days for V8s are very similar to the 3.5L in the RX with real world use. Which is kind of sad for Lexus… I’ve actually got my eye on a Nissan Titan and thanks to a test drive yesterday, I REALLY want one! So I’ll probably be saying bye to this RX if Nissan will fully buy it out, which they seem to be willing to do! ✌🏻

Positive 2022 Lexus Rx350 car reviews

  1. Eli Bahringer 2025-03-25

We're so glad we upgraded from our truck to the Lexus RX 350! The ride is incredibly comfortable, especially on long trips, and the gas mileage has been just as advertised in the specs.

  2. Chandler Abshire 2025-03-08

I've owned three Lexus vehicles in the past three years. My first was a 2015 Lexus RX 350 Premium, which was decent but lacked some of the features I was looking for. Overall, it was a good SUV. A year later, I upgraded to a 2016 Lexus RX 350, which was fully loaded with all the features and technology I could possibly want. It was a weekend car, and I barely drove it. Recently, I considered selling and leasing a new 2022 Lexus RX 350 F Sport, fully loaded with all the features. However, I ultimately decided to go with the base model, and I can confidently say that it is one of the best SUVs on the market in 2022. As someone who has been in the automotive industry for over 15 years, I can say that Lexus has always been my favorite brand. The 2022 base model has some great features, such as CarPlay, lane departure warning, and auto braking if you get too close. The only downside is that it doesn't have a sunroof, but living in South Florida, it's too hot to have it open anyway. I've had my 2022 base model since October 30, 2021, but I've decided to sell it and lease a 2022 Premium model in Nori Green with Hazelnut interior, fully loaded to my liking.
