The Lexus LX (Japanese: レクサス・LX, Hepburn: Rekusasu LX) is a full-size luxury SUV sold by Lexus, a luxury division of Toyota since January 1996, having entered manufacturing in November 1995. It is Lexus' largest and most expensive luxury SUV. Four generations have been produced, all based heavily on the long-running Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs. The first-generation LX 450 started production in 1995 as Lexus' first entry into the SUV market. Its successor, the LX 470, premiered in 1998 and was manufactured until 2007. The third-generation LX debuted at the New York International Auto Show in April 2007. The fourth-generation LX debuted in October 2021.

The first-generation LX 450 had a straight-six engine and seats for seven passengers. The second and third-generations had a V8 engine powertrain, a welded steel body-shell combined with full-size steel ladder frame (body-on-frame construction), and seats for eight passengers. The fourth-generation model has a twin-turbocharged V6 engine powertrain and seats for seven passengers as standard and four passengers as an option. The second-generation LX 470 shared exterior styling with the Japanese domestic market Land Cruiser Cygnus.

According to Lexus, the "LX" name stands for "Luxury Crossover". However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, "Luxury Four Wheel Drive".

Negative 2016 Lexus Lx570 car reviews

I purchased this vehicle as CPO. While it may not be the top choice for SUV enthusiasts due to its fuel economy and limited storage capacity, it does have some great features. The new HID adaptive headlights and spindle grill give it a modern update. If you're looking for a reliable flagship SUV with reasonable maintenance costs that you can keep for a decade or more and receive great service from the dealers, this is the car for you. However, if you prefer European rides, leasing them and returning them after the warranty ends might be a better option.

I purchased this vehicle on July 30, 2013 and unfortunately, I have experienced a number of issues with it. On the first day, the tire pressure warning light came on, and although the dealer repaired it, the light came on again after only 8 miles of driving. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced the sensors. However, on Thursday September 12, the car completely shut down which was a very scary moment for me. I lost all power and the SCRA light, warning lights, and engine lights all came on. I couldn't restart the car, and the headlights stayed on. I was locked in park and couldn't do anything, not even lock the doors to call Lexus. Thankfully, Lexus service sent out a tow truck and they had to put the car on dollies in order to tow it back to the dealer. The Newport Lexus Sales Manager explained that the vehicle is dangerous and refused to replace it.

I previously owned a 2011 LX 570 and had a great experience with it. The SUV drove smoothly and I never encountered any issues. However, my recent purchase of a 2014 LX 570 has left me feeling disappointed. Unfortunately, the electronics system is not up to par. The navigation is outdated and the radio presets cannot be labelled, making it difficult to find specific stations. Additionally, the weather map is not very user-friendly. Despite these setbacks, I appreciate the effort put into the Lexus Enform App. Ultimately, I decided to trade in the vehicle for a different SUV, but I still have a positive view of Lexus as a brand.

I am delighted to be leasing this LX. While my wife wanted to lease a new GL, I was looking for something different. We almost got a Range Rover, but with three children (aged 5, 3, and 6 months), it was a little small. There were two reasons why we decided to lease this SUV: firstly, we got a pretty good deal because I knew the GM at the Lexus dealer, and secondly, we had never had a Lexus SUV before. However, after driving 3100 miles, I have to say that I am not entirely satisfied with this SUV, especially considering the price range. If it were in the $50k range, it would be acceptable, but not for an SUV that costs over $70k. Here's why: firstly, it doesn't feel as solid as the GL; secondly, the Bluetooth connectivity is terrible - the other person can't hear well; thirdly, there is more road noise compared to the GL; and finally, it doesn't feel like a luxury SUV that costs $75k.

If you ever plan on driving in snowy or icy conditions, it's important to test the car's performance in those conditions first. It's possible that you may not end up purchasing it. In my experience, I've driven other LX models on snow and ice and they performed great. I thought this one would be even better with improvements over the years, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. One issue is that all LX models in the US come with the 'optional' 21' wheels/tires, and there are no replacement tires available for that size. This means that you're stuck with the tires that come with the car, which are great in the summer but not suitable for winter driving. They're the worst tires I've ever used on snow and ice for an SUV, and they don't provide enough stopping power for such a heavy vehicle. When I contacted Lexus to complain about this issue, they were uninterested in helping me. While I wouldn't buy this vehicle again, it's unfortunate because it's a very nice car in good weather. It's more comfortable to ride in than any of the competitors I've tried, and it's much quieter and more refined. The technology is outstanding, and the Mark Levinson stereo is the best I've ever heard in any vehicle. The acceleration is a bit weak, but it's still manageable. Gas mileage is abysmal, but let's face it, people who buy these cars are probably not too concerned about that. However, it has a relatively small gas tank, so I have to fill it up more often than I did with my previous Yukon XL Denali (which also got an average of 2-4mpg better than the LX). Since I originally wrote this, I've experienced more and more issues with the Lexus Enform App Suite having significant connectivity errors, which is really annoying.

Positive 2016 Lexus Lx570 car reviews

I see that you've owned quite a few SUVs in the past, including an Acura MDX, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Landcruiser, smaller Lexus SUV GX and an older Lexus 470. It's great to hear that you and your family are enjoying your new vehicle so much! The tight steering and overall comfort seem to be a big hit. It's also reassuring to know that it drives like a tank and makes you feel safe. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us! Your purchase in December 2016 sounds like it was a great decision.

When my mechanic and I changed the oil for the first time, it took longer than expected due to the required removal of 19 bolts of 3 different sizes and 4 underside skid/aero panels. While regular maintenance bills may be expensive, this car is built to a high standard, better than even the best GMC Suburban's and Cadillacs. If you can afford the purchase price, you won't be disappointed. In fact, I strongly recommend this car. After almost 4 years of ownership and about 70,000 miles, I am still convinced that this LEXUS, the LX 570 and my 2 previous Lexus sedans are the best built cars I have ever purchased. I have owned over 20 NEW cars and at least 10 used cars, including antiques, and these big Lexus V-8's are quality cars that drive and perform superbly. It's worth noting that my gas mileage has improved now that the engine is fully worn in and we often get 18-19 MPG at speeds of 70+ mph. UPDATE: Everything that I wrote in this review was still accurate after 5+ years and 80,000 miles when I traded my 2015 LX 570 for a 2021 LX 570. These are superior machines and well worth the money. The 2021 LX 570 is the best all-around SUV that was available before Lexus stopped producing the V-8 powered machine, which is why I traded in my 2015 for a 2021. I am convinced that I made the correct decision. I made the same decision in replacing my 2012 Lexus LS 460 all-wheel drive with a new 2019 GENESIS G-90 ULTIMATE all-wheel drive sedan.Lexus stopped making the V-8 sedan, so I went to their competitor to find a similar car with V-8 power, AWD, and lots of luxury at a reasonable price.

If you ever come across a 2011 car with 89000 miles and a six (6) CD player that still works like new, please give me a call. I don't really care about features like radar cruise control, lane departure, cross traffic, or four cameras since I have eyes and hands. I also have an iPhone, so I don't need GPS, but I must say that the Mark Levinson sound system is amazing. The leather seats are very sturdy, unlike the soft leather on other Lexus models that tend to rip easily. The Land Cruiser and LX leather are also very durable. The only downside for me is the wood veneer. For this price, it would be better to use thicker but cheaper wood instead of Yamaha piano wood veneer. The summer heat can warp it easily since it's just veneer glued onto a plastic base and clipped into the dash. Increasing the weight of the wood or using cheaper quality ones, or even plastic, would be a better option. The V8 power and transmission are smooth as silk, providing an incredible driving experience. The steering is dead-centered with a hydraulic weight, but it's not tiring for the shoulders. The steering and wheel coordination is so consistent and accurate that it's effortless to steer despite the initial impression of a “heavy” steering wheel.

  4. Erling Leffler 2025-08-26

If you need to transport 8 people, this may not be the best option for you. However, for the majority of buyers who do not require the third row of seats, the increased storage space is a valuable feature. While I personally removed the seats and stored them in my basement, I believe that this SUV is otherwise the best option available. It is an absolute delight to drive!

  5. Brando Lebsack 2025-08-14

Update 2020! Another year with the vehicle and 8000 more miles, and it's still quieter than some 2020 vehicles. It's definitely worth the investment. If you're looking for a luxury SUV, there is no better choice than a Lexus. While there are many luxury SUVs on the road, only a few will make people turn their heads, and Lexus is one of them. You can drive a thousand miles and get out of the car feeling great and not tired. The ride is great, quiet, and smooth even at 80 mph, with plenty left under the hood. UPDATE: This 5-year-old SUV rides better than a brand new competitor, and it's still as quiet as a new one. Other than new tires, there have been no repairs or issues. Divide the cost over 5 years, look at the resale value, and this car is actually less expensive than many of its competitors. I love the company!
