The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. Manual transmissions were offered until 1993, a lower-displacement inline-four engine became an option in Asian markets in 2010, and a gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced in 2012. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".

Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.

Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

Common 1995 Lexus Es300 problems

The Lexus ES300, a luxury sedan produced in the mid-1990s, is known for its reliability and longevity. However, like any vehicle, it can experience certain issues over time. Based on owner complaints, here are some common problems with the 1995 Lexus ES300:

  • Check Engine Light Due to Failed Oxygen Sensor Component: This issue is a common problem across various model years of the Lexus ES300, as reported by RepairPal. A failed oxygen sensor can cause the check engine light to illuminate, affecting the vehicle's performance and fuel efficiency.
  • Transmission Failure: The 1999 Lexus ES300 has the most overall complaints, with transmission failure being the most-reported problem, as reported by CarComplaints. The average cost to fix this issue is $3,700, with an average mileage of 104,000 miles.
  • EGR Vacuum Issues: Some 1995 Lexus ES300 owners have reported issues with the EGR vacuum, which could lead to smog test failures. This issue can be caused by carbon build-up, vacuum leaks, or a malfunctioning EGR valve. A ClubLexus forum post discusses this problem and suggests cleaning the EGR valve or checking the vacuum lines for cracks.
  • Faulty Ignition Switch: A faulty ignition switch can cause intermittent starting issues. This issue can be diagnosed by checking for power on the S wire during a no-start situation, as suggested in a CarTalk forum post.

These are some of the common problems reported by owners of the 1995 Lexus ES300. To address these issues, it is recommended to consult with a professional mechanic or dealership service center for proper diagnosis and repair.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2000-06-23
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: JT8GK13T4S0

  • Summary: THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KNOW HOW THE FIRE BEGAN OR WHY THERE WAS A FIRE AFTER I HAD TO PAY FOR THE TEARDOWN. THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN THE FACT THAT I COULD HAVE BURNED UP WHILE RIDING IN THE MOVING VEHICLE ALONG WITH MY SISTER. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. NO LIGHTS WERE SHOWN ON THE DASHBOARD, NO KNOCKING SOUND BEFORE THE ROD BLEW, NO OVERHEATING INDICATGOR SHOWED, PLENTY OF OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS VERY WELL SERVICED AND ONLY BY A LEXUS CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN. THE REPORT SHOWED THAT IN 6/99 AN OIL LEAK WAS CHECKED BY TWO DEALERSHIPS IN DALLAS. THEY FOUND NOTHING, YET, A YEAR LATER, THERE WAS SMUDGE IN THE ENGINE CAUSING THE EXHAUST TO GET TOO HOT AND START THE FIRE. THE DENTON FIRE DEPARTMENT EXAMINED THE CAR AND SAW NO OIL SPLATTERED OR CLOGGED IN THE ENGINE AND NEITHER DID I OR MY SISTER (ELMERINE BURTON). IN FACT, THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS VERY CLEAN. ONLY THE BOTTOM WAS BURNED AND A HOLE WAS IN THE ENGINE. THE GRASS CAUGHT FIRE FROM THE OIL LEAKAGE, FIRE TRAILED UNDERNEATH THE ENTIRE CAR BURNING LIKE THE STEM FROM DYNAMITE. I JUST KNEW THE CAR WAS TO BLOW FROM THE GAS TANK , FOR THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ON FIRE UNDERNEATH. TRAFFIC WAS A STEADY STREAM FROM THE TIME WE LEFT TULSA ON NORTH AND SOUTH BOUND LANES WITH BOTH LANES PACKED. IT WAS AS IF HOLIDAY TRAFFIC WAS TRAVELING. IT WAS 6PM WHEN THE ENGINE BLUE AND THE RUSH HOUR WAS ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SAFETY OF MANY VEHICLES ALONG WITH PASSENGERS WERE AT STAKE IF THE CAR WOULD HAVE EXOLODED FOR WE DID NOT MOVE OVER VERY FAR INTO THE CENTER GRASSY MEDIAN. LEXUS HEADQUARTERS SAYS THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO "ANY" OF THEIR AUTOS BEFORE. PAY THE DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I-35 SOUTH TO DALLAS , ENTERING DENTON, 45 MI. FROM DALLAS, TRAVELING FROM TULSA, OK.*AK

Negative 1995 Lexus Es300 car reviews

  1. Vito Farrell 2024-07-17

This car has unfortunately proven to be unreliable and expensive to maintain. Despite having only 25,000 miles, I have experienced numerous issues that I have not encountered with any of my previous 20 cars. The cost of repairs is also quite high, with even minor fixes being quite expensive. For example, when a spring on the cup holder was lost, I had to purchase an entire unit for $500. It is advisable to consider selling the car before the warranty expires.

Positive 1995 Lexus Es300 car reviews

  1. Earnest Rice 2024-11-16

I absolutely love this car! It has been my favorite since 1976. The ride is so quiet and comfortable, and the 3.0 V6 engine really makes it perform. The stereo is the best I've ever had, and it even came standard with the car. I did add a CD changer, which made it even better. This car has been incredibly reliable over the years. The only reason I am trading it in is because my father has been asking me to sell it to him for the past year. He's still driving the 1987 Supra I sold him in 1991, which just goes to show how great these cars are! I will definitely miss it.

  2. Matteo McCullough 2024-09-03

Great car! It sounds like you really love it.

  3. Micheal Funk 2024-08-20

Just bought it and it's a great car to drive. You'll love it! I'm actually the third owner and I have to say, the quality of the car is absolutely breath-taking. I highly recommend it!

  4. Elvis Nolan 2024-08-16

This car is amazing! It used to belong to my mom, but she got a newer one. However, I still think this car is better than the new one. It has great handling and can beat pretty much any other car on the road. Although it has 180,000 miles on it, repairs are inevitable. If you find that Lexus parts are too expensive, Toyota parts are a great alternative and are available at half the price. If you're considering buying this car, I highly recommend it!

  5. Roman Powlowski 2024-08-14

With 189,000K on it and still going strong, this car is a real trooper! It's still fast for its age - hit the gas and you're gone. The headlights look expensive and are even better than those on the 1997+ models. Plus, the leg room in the back is decent. Overall, this car is a great choice!
