The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. I DEPRESSED THE CRUISE TO TURN IT OFF WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND HELD THE BRAKES DOWN, THE ENGINE REVVED HIGH AND THE CAR STILL WOULDN'T STOP. I ASKED HIM, WHAT CAUSED IT, HE SAID IT'S OBVIOUSLY RELATED TO THE OVER-STRESSED ENGINE BEING STOPPED SO ABRUPTLY WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. Wow, what a shocker! I didn't expect this coming. This was the best car I have ever driven. The suspension is the best, the engine and acceleration are great, and the handling is superb. The interior quality build is very, and I mean very, good. The most impressive thing was the suspension and the quietness.

This car is absolutely beautiful! I recently upgraded from a 1994 Pathfinder XE, so having all of the amenities that this car has is such a bonus. My Lex is a Coach Edition, so it has the nice perforated leather which is perfect for summer. The car runs like it's brand new and the seats are still in great condition. It runs so smoothly that you can barely even tell the car is on. The safety features, like the Traction Control and engine immobiliser system, are fantastic. I always get stares when I drive by, and although this was the #1 selling car for Lexus, I don't see it that often on the streets where I live, which makes it feel even more special. But hey, it's a Lex with Toyota reliability - what more could you want?

I'm so glad I finally got one! Although, I do wish I had bought it sooner. The only downside is that if the window is cracked when it's raining, the water from the windshield can come back into the car. However, I've heard that they redesigned the door gutters on the new model. The 6CD changer with Bose comparable sound system is absolutely awesome!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share a bit about my car. I bought my 1999 black ES 300 in November 2001 and it's been such a great ride. It's a certified used Lexus, so it has the exact same warranty as a new vehicle. Plus, it looks amazing! Thanks for listening.

The car's electrical system has been a continual problem. Despite visits to the Lexus dealership and other mechanics, the VSC, check engine, and flashing seat belt lights persist. The driver's seat is better suited for a shorter person, as at six feet tall, my legs feel cramped and I sometimes hit my head when entering the driver's side. However, the car is semi-quiet and the seats are comfortable. While the styling is cookie cutter, it still has its own charm. Although it may not feel like an upscale car, it is still a reliable option. Overall, I would consider other options before purchasing another one.

At 50,000 miles, I had to replace the front strut mounts. The Lexus service advisor informed me that this is a common issue. It's hard to believe, but the paint chips off very easily (the 2004 ES330 has the same problem) and there's a lot of wind noise at high speeds.
