The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".
Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

- Summary: ON THE NIGHT OF AUGUST 20, 2019, AT 9:45, I PARKED MY LEXUS ES 300 AND WENT INSIDE THE LOCAL ACME. ACME IS APPROX MILES FROM HOME. I ENTERED THE STORE AND HEARD OVER THE INTERCOM ALL SHOPPERS HAD 12 MIN BEFORE CLOSING. I QUICKLY SHOPPED, AND UPON EXITING THE STORE, MY CAR HAD A SIGNIFICANT FIRE, AND THE FIRE COMPANY THAT WAS ACROSS THE STREET HAD TO RESPOND AND PUT IT OUT. MY CAR HAD NO POWER, AND IT MYSTERIOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE. I WAS GIVEN THE DIRECTIVE TO HAVE IT TOWED IMMEDIATELY BY THE POLICE AND FIRE CO WHO WAS ON THE SCENE. I QUICKLY GRABBED ANY SALVAGEABLE PERSONALS AND HAD TO GET A RIDE HOME BY THE POLICE OFFICER. THE FOLLOWING DAY AUGUST 21, 2019, AAA TOWED THE VEHICLE TO MY HOME. I HAD TO ATTACH THE BATTERY CABLE TO HAVE POWER FOR WINDOWS AND LOCKS ALONG WITH THE TRUNK. I GATHERED ALL MY BELONGINGS AND REMOVED THE WIRE. I CALLED THE FIRE MARSHALL FOR A REPORT, AND HE SAID HE COULDN'T GIVE ME A REPORT. IT WAS COMPROMISED BY BEING TOWED. COMPROMISED FOR TOWING WHEN I WAS TOLD OR RATHER DEMANDED TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE OF THE PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY. I GOOGLED THE WORDS LEXUS AND FIRE AND NOTICED BY A FEW POSTS MY ISSUE WAS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THEREFORE, I CONTACTED LEXUS, WHO HAD ME TOW MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE CAR SAT AND IS STILL SITTING FOR ALMOST THREE WEEKS BEFORE AN INSPECTOR LOOKED AT IT ON SEPTEMBER 10. 2019. I WENT TO CHECK THE ONLY CAR AFTER AND TOOK A VIDEO OF WHAT I SAW. I WAITED THE 30 DAYS FOR A REPLY IF THEY'D ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY. I GOT MY LETTER ON THE 31ST DAY AND THEY CAN NOT IDENTIFY HOW THE FIRE STARTED AND ASSUME NO LIABILITY. HOW DOES A CAR MYSTERIOUSLY CATCH FIRE PARKED? BECAUSE THIS ISSUE ISN'T ISOLATED, IS THERE ANY RECOURSE ACTION AGAINST LEXUS FOR DAMAGES? I HAVE VIDEOS AND PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE AFTER THE FIRE AND AFTER THE INSPECTION.

Hands down best car you've ever owned. At 170,000 miles you've had no problems except an 02 censor go out and new tires bought. This car is a tank. It's 2015 and your '94 is still running like a champ and it's better looking and more comfortable than any newer vehicle on the market today. Long live Lexus!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Lexus. I purchased it used from a lovely lady who had only driven it for 4000 miles in 10 months. (Can you guess why she was selling it?) While it only has a four-speed auto, which some may consider old school, I find that everything else about it is fantastic. The ride is quiet and comfortable, and the car has proven to be incredibly reliable. The fit and finish are top-notch, and there's plenty of room in the cockpit up front. The only downsides are the average Lexus stereo and the cup holders, which don't do a great job of keeping your cup or bottle from tipping. However, I find that washing the car is a breeze because it's low and doesn't have the slab sides that newer models do. I currently have 75,000 miles on it, but I'm in no rush to trade it in for a new 350. I haven't found a model that I like better than this one, and I'm not a fan of the 2010 or earlier body styles. I'll be keeping my '99 for the foreseeable future. Thanks for listening!

Your car is really nice and reliable! Other than the oil changes, you only had to replace the brake calipers at 180K. Even after hitting two deer in six months, it was rebuilt just like new. Your car has every option available and everything works just fine. You can drive it until the wheels fall off, probably around 500k miles or more. Move over Mercedes E class, there's a new kid in town!

This is a great car with a nice ride. The power is surprising for a V6, and it's very reliable. The highway mileage is great, and in town mileage is good for a sedan. It has a smooth ride and is quiet running, with just a little wind noise from the window at times. The leather seats are nice and durable, and there's plenty of trunk space.

I bought my 94 ES300 brand new in 1994 and it has been a wonderful car to own. With 144,000 miles on it, I have only had to replace shocks, motor mounts, and a couple of electronics components, but no major problems yet. It has been driven across the country three times and has been used extensively in town, but it has never let me down and its performance remains the same. It is especially nice to be able to accelerate up the mountain roads in Colorado. My wife and I liked it so much that we bought another one in 1999 (she has the 99, and I have the 94).

Hi there! I recently purchased a car from its first owner and have been enjoying the smooth ride and great sound quality. It comfortably fits three mid-size passengers, which is a huge improvement from my previous beat-up Mercury Tracer station wagon that felt cramped and struggled to make it up steep mountains. While the car is powerful, it does use quite a bit of gas, and the cost of maintenance can be expensive, even when not done at the dealer. I recently spent almost $400 to change the timing belt. Despite this, I still love driving the car. By the way, the cheapest gas price in my area of Northern California is $1.70 a gallon. Thanks for listening!

I initially had reservations about the ES300 due to its lack of performance and nose-heavy feel. However, I was able to improve the ride by changing to 215/60/15 Pilots. Unfortunately, the transmission needed to be replaced at only 48k miles. Thankfully, Lexus of Austin installed a rebuilt transmission under the 100k warranty. Despite this setback, I am now considering the Maxima GLE or Acura RL, although I regret not purchasing the 528 BMW initially.

I purchased this car with 63k from a friend who owned it only for 2 months, because of the Lexus reputation for quality. Despite the fact that it now has 170k, I can confidently say that it has been a reliable car. Although I had to replace a few parts such as the radiator, water pump, timing belt, and fuel injectors, these are normal wear and tear items that need to be replaced on any car. I have also addressed some minor issues such as broken shocks, engine oil leaks, and burnt-out instrument cluster lights. Overall, I am still impressed with the quality of this Lexus and would recommend it to others.

Unfortunately, I need something higher so that getting in and out is easier, which is why I am selling it. Have you considered a Lexus SUV?

The ES300 is a great car that has proven to be reliable with minimal repairs needed beyond regular maintenance. It gets decent gas mileage, averaging about 21-23 mpg, and provides a comfortable and quiet ride. However, it's worth noting that this particular model has a slight hesitation in acceleration that the dealership was unable to correct. Additionally, the paint job is somewhat fragile and prone to scratches and rock chips. Lastly, it can be challenging to read the center console displays for the radio/CD and heating/AC settings when wearing polarized sunglasses.
