The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".
Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

- Summary: ON THE NIGHT OF AUGUST 20, 2019, AT 9:45, I PARKED MY LEXUS ES 300 AND WENT INSIDE THE LOCAL ACME. ACME IS APPROX MILES FROM HOME. I ENTERED THE STORE AND HEARD OVER THE INTERCOM ALL SHOPPERS HAD 12 MIN BEFORE CLOSING. I QUICKLY SHOPPED, AND UPON EXITING THE STORE, MY CAR HAD A SIGNIFICANT FIRE, AND THE FIRE COMPANY THAT WAS ACROSS THE STREET HAD TO RESPOND AND PUT IT OUT. MY CAR HAD NO POWER, AND IT MYSTERIOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE. I WAS GIVEN THE DIRECTIVE TO HAVE IT TOWED IMMEDIATELY BY THE POLICE AND FIRE CO WHO WAS ON THE SCENE. I QUICKLY GRABBED ANY SALVAGEABLE PERSONALS AND HAD TO GET A RIDE HOME BY THE POLICE OFFICER. THE FOLLOWING DAY AUGUST 21, 2019, AAA TOWED THE VEHICLE TO MY HOME. I HAD TO ATTACH THE BATTERY CABLE TO HAVE POWER FOR WINDOWS AND LOCKS ALONG WITH THE TRUNK. I GATHERED ALL MY BELONGINGS AND REMOVED THE WIRE. I CALLED THE FIRE MARSHALL FOR A REPORT, AND HE SAID HE COULDN'T GIVE ME A REPORT. IT WAS COMPROMISED BY BEING TOWED. COMPROMISED FOR TOWING WHEN I WAS TOLD OR RATHER DEMANDED TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE OF THE PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY. I GOOGLED THE WORDS LEXUS AND FIRE AND NOTICED BY A FEW POSTS MY ISSUE WAS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THEREFORE, I CONTACTED LEXUS, WHO HAD ME TOW MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE CAR SAT AND IS STILL SITTING FOR ALMOST THREE WEEKS BEFORE AN INSPECTOR LOOKED AT IT ON SEPTEMBER 10. 2019. I WENT TO CHECK THE ONLY CAR AFTER AND TOOK A VIDEO OF WHAT I SAW. I WAITED THE 30 DAYS FOR A REPLY IF THEY'D ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY. I GOT MY LETTER ON THE 31ST DAY AND THEY CAN NOT IDENTIFY HOW THE FIRE STARTED AND ASSUME NO LIABILITY. HOW DOES A CAR MYSTERIOUSLY CATCH FIRE PARKED? BECAUSE THIS ISSUE ISN'T ISOLATED, IS THERE ANY RECOURSE ACTION AGAINST LEXUS FOR DAMAGES? I HAVE VIDEOS AND PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE AFTER THE FIRE AND AFTER THE INSPECTION.

I'm so glad I chose a Lexus for my first car! It has definitely lived up to my expectations. Even after driving over 50,000 miles in less than 2 years, it still rides and drives just as smoothly as the day I bought it. The Certified Pre-Owned warranty was definitely a smart investment. I did have to replace the left heated seat element and the motor mounts, but other than that, I haven't had any mechanical issues. I've kept up with the scheduled maintenance, which has cost me around $1500 for the 50,000 miles I've driven it. Overall, I'm really happy with my Lexus and would definitely recommend it to others!

Original owner. The ES 300 is an extremely reliable car with no engine or transmission problems. It still gets 19+ MPG and has a timeless body design, making it an excellent value. However, it may not drive like a BMW.

Wow, what a shocker! I didn't expect this coming. This was the best car I have ever driven. The suspension is the best, the engine and acceleration are great, and the handling is superb. The interior quality build is very, and I mean very, good. The most impressive thing was the suspension and the quietness.

This product is not worth your time or money. It broke down after only 5,000 miles and was expensive to maintain. I had to take it to the shop multiple times for various issues.

I bought this car because of Lexus' reputation for quality. However, in the year that I have owned it, I have experienced a few minor issues such as water in the headlight due to a bad seal, a non-functional power antenna, a hood that doesn't stay open, a side window that dropped into the door on a rainy day, and an idiot light that flickers on and off. One nitpick is that fitting an aftermarket stereo in it requires cheesy looking adapters since the factory CD player costs $1500. It would be great if the better and cheaper solution could be put in every car. Despite these issues, I still believe that Lexus is a reliable brand.

This car has a luxurious fit and finish that is beyond reproach. However, I have experienced some issues with the transmission shift, which can be a bit mushy and laggy when attempting to accelerate for passing at highway speeds. It also doesn't seem to select the appropriate gear for optimum performance. While I've recently owned two Mercedes sedans that set a high standard for performance, the ES300 still has its own unique appeal.

The suspension might feel a bit stiff, so would it be desirable to have it adjustable? It could also benefit from larger-diameter wheels. The paint is a bit fragile and can be easily chipped. If you're looking for a cooler ride, darker window-tinting might be desirable. Additionally, having a more easily accessible cabin air filter would be great.

I made a mistake when I impulsively bought this Lexus after seeing a good TV ad that featured the GPS (which came with the car). I had previously owned cars of Mercedes Benz and Seville quality, but my Lexus-owning business associates encouraged me to switch brands, claiming that they were dependable and never needed repairs. However, in the first year alone, the front brake rotors had to be replaced twice. I also noticed issues with the engine/transmission match-up and hesitation on acceleration/pausing, but my concerns were dismissed. Later on, Lexus issued a recall letter for these issues. Additionally, the backs of the leather front seats would detach when the electric seat adjustments were initiated. Overall, I am happy to be back in a Mercedes Benz.
