2005 Buick Century problems
Buick Century is the model name that was used by Buick for a line of upscale full-size cars from 1936 to 1942 and 1954 to 1958, as well as from 1973 to 2005 for mid-size cars.
The first Buick Century debuted as the Series 60 then renamed in 1936 as a shorter and lighter model featuring the same engine as the bigger Roadmaster and Limited series giving it more performance while using the shorter wheelbase body of the Buick Special. During the 1930s and 1940s it was Buick's companion to the top level Roadmaster and was offered as a 2-door and 4-door sedan and convertible. The Century name was used on six generations of cars of varying sizes as well as performance and trim levels. In 1969, Buick developed a concept car known as the Century Cruiser. In the 1970s, the Century Regal became a separate model and market positioning between the two products changed from year to year depending on sales. The Century was updated to front wheel drive in 1982 and was Buick's 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and station wagon, with regular updates and feature upgrades as customer preferences changed over time.
Series 60 (1930–1935)
Originally, the Series 60 had the 331.4 cu in (5.4 L) OHV Buick Straight-6 engine from the Series 70, developing 99 bhp (74 kW) at 2,800 rpm. It had, at the beginning of the generation, a full-length running board denoting the top model for Buick at the time, shared with the short wheelbase, entry level Series 40. In 1930, GM built 38,180 cars. The bodystyles available were torpedo, sedan, coupe, and roadster convertible, using GM's "B-body" platform. Starting with this generation, all GM cars shared a corporate appearance as a result of the "Art and Colour Section" headed by Harley J. Earl and modest yearly changes were introduced to freshen the appearance.
In 1931, the running board was reduced and the OHV 220.7 cu in (3.6 L) Buick Straight-8 engine was introduced that developed 90 bhp (67 kW). Aesthetically, the Series 60 remained almost unchanged, and the same fact occurred also in the following year. In 1931 and 1932, a total of 55,135 were produced.
In 1933, the length of the body increased and the radiator was now concealed behind a façade with a grille. The engine power increased to 97 hp (72 kW), and 1933 was the first year all GM vehicles were installed with optional vent windows which were initially called “No Draft Individually Controlled Ventilation” later renamed "Ventiplanes". In 1934, the appearance was changed to a more rounded appearance, with a new OHV 278 cu in (4.6 L) eight-cylinder engine and 100 hp. In 1935, the model remained almost unchanged while the body style selections were similar to larger Buicks but more affordably priced. Six choices were available to include both 2- and 4-door convertibles using the term "phaeton" for the 4-door convertible with a listed price of US$1,675 ($37,224 in 2023 dollars ). Total production from 1933 to 1935 was 31,385. In 1936, the model changed its name to "Century".

Common 2005 Buick Century problems
The 2005 Buick Century has several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is an electrical problem or issue. Owners have reported that their car lost electrical power and the engine died, especially when hitting a curb or driving over a small dip in the road. This could be due to a loose connection, an alternator problem, or a coil problem. A possible solution is to check the grounding on the body/frame, the ECU under the air filter box, or the instrument cluster for any illuminated security lights.
Another common problem with the 2005 Buick Century is related to the steering knuckles. Dorman recalled 979 steering knuckles sold under their OE Solution brand name and Napa p/nos. 7-8502 and 7-8503 due to a potential material or design defect that could result in the steering knuckle breaking in the hub area. This recall began on February 23, 2009, and owners may contact Dorman's toll-free hotline at 1-800-523-2492 and press 5.
Additionally, there have been complaints about the fuel pressure regulators. Delphi recalled certain Delphi fuel pressure regulators, p/nos. FP10020-11B1, FP10026-11B1, and FP10027-11B1, sold after January 9, 2007, as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles listed above. These universal pressure regulators were produced without an O'ring and retainer, which could result in a potential material or design defect.
The brakes are another common problem with the 2005 Buick Century. There have been 18 complaints submitted to the Center for Auto Safety and 16 complaints submitted to NHTSA for the 2005 model year. The complaints are related to the service brakes, exterior lighting: headlights, and the switch.
The electrical system, exterior lighting: headlights, and the switch are also common problems with the 2005 Buick Century. There have been 10 complaints submitted to NHTSA for the 2005 model year. The complaints are related to the electrical system, exterior lighting: headlights, and the switch.
The engine and engine cooling: exhaust system: emission control: gas recirculation valve (EGR valve) are also common problems with the 2005 Buick Century. There have been 16 complaints submitted to NHTSA for the 2005 model year. The complaints are related to the engine and engine cooling: exhaust system: emission control: gas recirculation valve (EGR valve).
The equipment adaptive/mobility is another common problem with the 2005 Buick Century. There have been 9 complaints submitted to NHTSA for the 2005 model year. The complaints are related to the equipment adaptive/mobility.
In summary, the 2005 Buick Century has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These include electrical problems, steering knuckle defects, fuel pressure regulator defects, brake issues, electrical system problems, and engine cooling issues.

ONCE WHILE I WAS IN THE CAR WITH A FRIEND WHO ALSO OWNS A BUICK THE ISSUE OCCURRED AND HE TOLD ME HIS CAR HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I CONTACTED BUICK, WHO DENIED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THE ISSUE, THEY REFERRED ME TO MY LOCAL BUICK DEALER WHO WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT INDICATED MY MODEL WAS NOT ONE THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED. AS GM SAID THEY HAD NO LIABILITY, I PAID MY LOCAL BUICK DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE, WHICH THEY DETERMINED WAS A FAULTY HEADLIGHT SENSOR. THE PART WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE ON JULY 1, 2015. 3 WEEKS AGO THE ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN, DRIVING ON A DARK COUNTRY ROAD THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I CONTACTED GM AGAIN, THEY ASSIGNED A FILE # 8-1631489873 BUT ASSUMED NO RESPONSIBILITY, AGAIN TELLING ME TO DEAL WITH MY LOCAL BUICK DEALER.

- Summary: WE HAVE HAD OUR 2005 BUICK LACROSSE FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS NOW AND WANT TO REPORT THIS LIGHTING SAFETY CONCERN. THIS HEADLIGHT INCIDENT WITH OUR BUICK HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO US, THREE TIMES SINCE MID APRIL. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, WE WERE DRIVING ONE EVENING, SUDDENLY OUR LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF. THIS WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AS IT WAS A DARK STRETCH OF ROAD, WITH TRAFFIC. I SLOWED AND FOUND A REASONABLE SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER. I TRIED TURNING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN SEVERAL POSITIONS WITH NO SUCCESS. WE NORMALLY KEEP THE HEADLAMP SWITCH IN THE AUTO POSITION. OUR LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS STILL WERE NOT COMING ON. I THEN FOUND I COUND TURN MY HIGH BEAMS ON, SO I DID TO ILLUMINATE THE ROAD AND BE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. DRIVING WITH ONLY HIGH BEAMS IS BOTH DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL. IT CAN BE BLINDING TO ON COMING TRAFFIC AND I COULD HAVE BEEN CITED IF I HAD BEEN PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE. FROM WHERE MY LOW BEAMS WENT OUT, TO HOME WAS ABOUT 4.5 MILES. RIGHT BEFORE PULLING IN AT HOME MY LOW BEAMS CAME BACK ON. I TURNED OFF THE HIGH BEAMS AND STILL HAD THE LOW BEAMS. QUITE UNUSUAL. THEN WITHIN A 2 TO 3 WEEK STRETCH, MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT TWICE AGAIN. RIGHT AWAY, I TURNED ON MY HIGH BEAMS AND WITHIN 15 - 20 MINUTES, LOW BEAMS CAME BACK ON. WHILE I'M ABLE TO LIGHT UP THE ROAD USING THE HIGH BEAMS IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN - IT STILL IS NOT A SAFE ALTERNATIVE. THERE IS AN ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A MODULE PROBLEM, BAD WIRING, I JUST DON'T KNOW. I DID FIND OUT ON THE INTERNET, OTHER SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE. LIGHTS GOING OUT FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THANK YOU FOR RESEARCHING AND GETTING GM TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND HAVE THEM FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-09-10
- VIN: 2G4WS52J851
- Components: EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
- Summary: 2005 BUICK CENTURY CUSTOM. PURCHASED USED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FROM FORD DEALERSHIP IN 2011. ELECTRIC WINDOWS WORKED FINE, THEN IN 2012, 1 OF THE WINDOWS JUST FELL DOWN THE TRACK. A CPL MONTHS LATER ANOTHER DID THE SAME THING AND THEN A CPL MORE MONTHS A THIRD ONE FELL. I REMOVED THE DOOR PANELS AS THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED AND COULD FEEL A CABLE LAYING LOOSE DOWN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORWELL. I'M NOT SURE IF A "POSSIBLE PULLEY" OR THE CABLES THEIRSELVES BROKE, BUT THIS IS AN OBVIOUS ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL & YEAR FROM WHAT I READ ON CARPARTS.COM. I NOW HAVE PIECES OF 1"X2"'S WEDGED IN TO HOLD THEM UP BECAUSE OF LACK OF FUNDS. IF THIS IS ACTUALLY A COMMON ISSUE, AS I READ, THEN THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO MAKE IT AS A RECALL. THANK YOU **NOTE - I ONLY DRIVE THIS CAR BETWEEN 50-65 MI. A WEEK ON PAVED ROADS AND NO ROUGH DRIVING AND THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS EVER. A VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF VEHICLE. *TR

We've had many Buick vehicles and they're one fine car. They don't require a lot of maintenance. We've even been told that they ride nicer than a Cadillac. We'll keep buying Buicks every time.

I love my Buick! It's such a comfortable car to drive and it meets all my needs. I would highly recommend it to anyone. In my opinion, it's better than any import on the market!

I was pleasantly surprised by the Buick Century, especially since I was used to driving a much bigger and heavier car. It's one of the most comfortable and easy-to-handle cars I've ever owned, and I've owned many over the years.

I can tell you really love your 2004 Century! It's great to hear that it looks stylish and drives well. Even better, it sounds like it gets good gas mileage on long trips. While it may not be as efficient in the city, it's good to know that it's not too bad. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This vehicle is excellent in all aspects, although its city gas mileage could be improved.

Regan Greenfelder 2024-09-19
The car's riding quality is not up to par due to its light weight and poor suspension system. It seems like the tires may be of poor quality or the weight distribution may be off, as the car feels unstable when taking curves on slightly crowned roads. To ensure safety, it is necessary to slow down significantly. However, with some adjustments, this car has the potential to provide a more comfortable and enjoyable ride.
