2014 Mazda Mazda2 problems
The Mazda2 is a subcompact/supermini (B-segment) car manufactured and marketed by Mazda since 2002, currently in its third generation. An entry-level model of the brand in markets outside Japan, the Mazda2 is positioned below the Mazda3. The Mazda2 has also been marketed as the Mazda Demio (a name it kept in the Japanese market until 2019), while its direct predecessor was exported as the Mazda 121.
The second-generation Mazda2 earned the 2008 World Car of the Year title, while the third-generation model was awarded the 2014–2015 Japanese Car of the Year.
The third-generation model was sold in North America as the Scion iA and Toyota Yaris, Yaris iA and Yaris R.
A separate, petrol-hybrid version based on the Toyota Yaris Hybrid has been sold in Europe under the same Mazda2 nameplate since 2022 alongside the petrol-powered third-generation Mazda2.

Common 2014 Mazda Mazda2 problems
The Mazda2, produced by Japanese automaker Mazda, has been reported to have several common problems by drivers, despite its reputation for reliability. Some of these issues include air conditioning problems, clutch problems, and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) faults.
Air conditioning problems are a common complaint among Mazda2 owners. Drivers have reported that the air conditioning system struggles to pump out cool air when it should, requiring repair by a trained specialist.
Another issue reported by drivers is clutch problems, specifically a clicking noise when pressing down and releasing the clutch pedal. This noise could be due to a number of possible faults within the clutch component, and the only way to know the exact cause is for a trained mechanic to inspect the vehicle.
The DPF, which is designed to reduce emissions, has been reported to become clogged up easily on the Mazda2, causing the DPF warning light to illuminate. This problem is more likely to occur in cars that make frequent short journeys, as the engine may not reach optimum operating temperatures, resulting in unburnt soot becoming deposited in the DPF.
In terms of reliability, the Mazda2 ranks in 19th position out of 23 cars in the 2019 What Car? Reliability survey, with major rivals such as the Hyundai i20, Ford Fiesta, and Skoda Fabia finishing ahead of the model.
To summarize, while the Mazda2 is generally considered a reliable car, there have been reports of air conditioning problems, clutch issues, and DPF faults. It is important for drivers to be aware of these potential problems and to seek professional help if they experience any issues with their vehicle.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-29
- VIN: JM1DE1KY3E0
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,SEATS
- Summary: I have taken my car to two separate Mazda dealerships in 2019 and two separate non-dealership mechanics to address the same issue with a vibrating coming from the front driver when driving at lower speeds. It was not a constant noise until recently and saw there was a recall for my vehicle in May 2016. Mazda however says that my VIN does not qualify even though the build date range does show its covered. The problem at first was noted by the Kent Mazda dealership in 2019 but said the vehicle's small framing could cause this. This vibrating has become more clear and causing my vehicle to shake violently when steering. It has made me very fearful as each mechanic I take it to cannot find the source of the issue and overlook it. Mazda Corporate has not been helpful and overlooks the safety as it is something I've brought up to them. The original recall is below: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-15
- VIN: JM1DE1KY9E0
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: Tire size: P 185 / 55 R 15 I believe there is a manufacturing defect with the Firestone Firehawk tires. The tires are prematurely cracking, these tires are supposed to have a 50,000 mile limited warranty. I replaced all four tires on 6/18/2022 and today (7/15/2023) I noticed there was deep cracking through the treads and into the sidewall. I currently have the tires and it is available for inspection upon request. I believe that cracked tires are a safety issue that could put myself and other cars at risk. The Firestone store mentioned the Firehawk tires were discontinued for the car. That cracking was a known issue on these tires and they refused to send the tires in for a warranty replacement. STEERING,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-26
- VIN: JM1DE1KYXE0
- Components: STEERING,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE
- Summary: I bought this 2014 Mazda 2 Sport HB on Thursday January 26, 2023. Upon driving it home, this vehicle with only 41,280 miles on it, shook, vibrating , hearing a very loud popping clicking sounds. Like body metal clanging. It was hard to see. I don’t know if the low beams were set wrong or what but visibility wasn’t good with the low beams at all. I told him that the air conditioner made a horrible loud noises when cranked on high. I asked to take it to a mechanic and I was assured that their mechanics looked it over thoroughly. It has so much wrong with it. I was ripped off. Over $ 13,000 today. The car is in bad shape. It had one wreck I found out. This car looks ok, but it’s the worst car I have ever driven. My short instructed test drive wasn’t long enough to tell everything, but by the time I got home I knew that I was sold a lemon. Perhaps they didn’t know, but come on… This car is junk. It needs junked. This is the truth. I don’t believe it should be on the highway or resold again. Especially not 11,500 that turned into 13,000. I don’t have money for gas to be trying to fix garbage . Why would it have 2 owners and be a 2014 and only have 41,280 miles on it. They saw me coming and I explained that I can’t be ripped off. They didn’t care. I only drove it home and I know it’s really unsafe and not road worthy at all. Very difficult to steer compared to any other vehicle I have ever driven. It scares me truthfully.

When the dealership looked up my VIN, it was not a serial number listed under the recall list. However, it had the same issues as the recall. These issues were listed as "requires immediate attention." The Steering rack and pinion, and also the front struts with bearing mounts have all been replaced by the dealership and an alignment was performed. I recently traded in my 2008 Chevy Equinox for a Mazda and I couldn't be happier! The Mazda is a true engineering masterpiece. In comparison, the Chevy was not great - it had a Chinese engine and used a quart of oil between changes. The Mazda, on the other hand, uses no oil and is incredibly quiet and solid. When shifting from park to drive or reverse, there is no clunk like you often find in American cars. The engine is quiet and everything works perfectly. The only complaint I have is that I think it could benefit from a bigger engine - perhaps a 1.8 for more power. However, the mileage is good overall - I've gotten 28 mpg and even 42 mpg on the highway going 65. I appreciate that Mazdas are 96% made in Japan and are well-made, similar to Toyotas in the early 90s.

I've been driving my Mazda 2 for 6 months now and I absolutely love it! Even with 2 child seats in the back, there's still plenty of seating room (as long as it's just kids). The layout is simple and straightforward, which I find very appealing compared to other overly done subcompact cars. I did install an 8

This tiny car packs plenty of power and comfort. As someone who is 6.3, I can say that I'm quite comfortable with the amount of space it provides. While I do wish cruise control was a standard feature, the engine is very quiet even at highway speeds. However, you may hear some noise from the highway. The car handles very well and you won't feel like you're in a golf cart. It also holds to the road nicely, especially if you have appropriate tires installed. The technology is simple but easy to use and works well. The MPG is about average at 31-33 combined, and probably even more with a manual transmission. The automatic transmission is smooth and shifts down and moves when needed. It's a great value for the money and there have been no major recalls like the Fiesta. Overall, it's a nice little car that won't disappoint.

Sure, 100 hp is not a lot, and the automatic transmission can be a little funky with the gear changes. Normally, there may be a slight latency between pressing the accelerator and the engine response. HOWEVER, even in the automatic, you can drive it like a quick manual. Turning off overdrive functions like it's sport mode, giving way WAY more pedal response and increasing the rev limit. The only downside is that it excludes the highest gear, so to really drive the 2 with some spirit on the automatic, be ready to read the engine and switch overdrive off/on depending on the gear. It makes even the auto very involved and really tons of fun. As previously mentioned, the steering responsiveness is so sporty and precise, it made me second guess whether it was electronic or hydraulic. Unlike many modern cars, it isn't *too* soft, and gives you a go-kart-like driving experience. It could use a little more power, but frankly, this obsession with through-the-roof power numbers comes at a loss of the small joys of everyday driving. Where a 500hp mustang can be a blast at the track, this little car can make trips to target or on some local backroads a blast. It grows on you and the more you drive it the more you become infatuated with the experience, the look, the quirks. Maintenance is cheap and the car rarely complains. I bought mine at 87k miles for 4k, have absolutely thrown it about, driven across the country several times, and even installed a hitch and pulled a small boat for 2000 miles. I have performed every kind of odd test you can imagine, and I can say I would buy it again.
-
Great little car! It's not ideal for winter driving, but overall it's an enjoyable ride. The 5-speed manual is still fun to drive! With 56,000 miles and no problems, it's a solid car that's almost 10 years old and still super reliable!

I have experienced several issues with this car within the first 6 months of ownership, including brake failure after just 2 months and transmission problems at 43,000 miles. As a result, I have incurred a significant financial loss of $4000.00. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this car and suggest considering a Toyota Yaris instead.

This is a fantastic little car if you're looking for excellent gas mileage with minimal maintenance costs. It's a hatchback, so when you fold down the back seats, you can fit quite a bit of stuff in the back. The only downside I've found is its size, as it can be difficult to spot in parking lots behind larger cars. Overall, it's a great car for anyone seeking excellent gas mileage, ample storage space, ease of driving, and comfort. It's the perfect little car!

My wife really likes it. However, I have had a couple of small breakdowns and found that replacement parts for the Mazda two are both expensive and hard to find. For example, a simple tire stud was only available from the dealer, and the same goes for the CV joints/driveshaft, which cost $800 compared to the $60-$120 for other cars.
