2023 Alfa romeo Giulia problems

Alfa Romeo Giulia (Italian pronunciation: ) is the name of three not directly related models by the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo. The first is a line of sporty four-door compact executive cars (Type 105) produced from 1962 to 1978, the second is an updated, mainly up-engined Spider, Sprint and Sprint Speciale Giuliettas, and the third Giulia is a compact executive car (type 952) unveiled in 2015.

Alfa Romeo was one of the first mainstream manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a light-weight 1 tonne (2,205 lb) four-door car for mass production. The Type 105 Giulia was equipped with a light alloy twin overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine similar to that of the earlier Giulietta (750/101) range, available in 1.3-litre (1,290 cc) and 1.6-litre (1,570 cc) versions. Various configurations of carburetors and tuning produced power outputs from about 80 to about 110 bhp (55 to 75 kW), coupled in most cases to 5-speed manual transmission.

Giulia sedans were noted for lively handling and impressive acceleration among small European four-door sedans of their era, especially considering modest engine sizes offered. The popular Super version with the twin carburettor 1.6 litre engine had a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph) and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in about 12 seconds, better than many sports cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. When leaving the factory all variations of the Giulia originally fitted either Pirelli Cinturato 165HR14 or 155HR15 tyres (CA67).

The styling of the boxy four-door notchback saloon was somewhat wanting. The engine bay, cabin and boot were all square shaped, buffered somewhat by details on the grill, roofline, bonnet and boot. Use of a wind tunnel during development led to a very aerodynamic shape that produced a drag coefficient of Cd=0.34, particularly low for a saloon of the era.

The Giulia Spider was succeeded by the Alfa Romeo Spider (105/115) in 1966.

Common 2023 Alfa romeo Giulia problems

The Alfa Romeo Giulia, a luxury sedan known for its striking design and thrilling driving experience, has been plagued by several common problems that have affected its reliability. Here are the five most common issues reported by owners:

  • Engine Misfires: The 2017 and 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia models experienced engine misfiring problems, particularly in the 2.0-liter turbocharged models. This issue could lead to bigger failures if left unchecked, causing the catalytic converter to overheat and damaging engine wiring, resulting in additional electrical faults. In some cases, this could even cause engine fires and failing exhaust systems.
  • Anti-Lock Brake Failure: The 2020 and 2021 Giulia models have been affected by a failure of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). Hard braking could separate the ABS system's hydraulic control unit, reducing braking power and causing a loss of anti-lock braking. This issue led to a recall in 2021, allowing Alfa Romeo Giulia drivers to have their HCU replaced free of charge.
  • Failing Rear Brake Discs: In 2020, the rear brake discs in certain Alfa Romeo Giulia models were prone to breaking apart, causing a sudden and complete loss of braking power. This issue led to a recall in 2020, offering free brake rotor and pad replacements for affected models.
  • Fuel Leaks and Fire Risk: The 2020 and 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia models have experienced fuel leaks due to a crack in the fuel line sensor housing. This issue increases the risk of fire, as fuel can leak from the fuel lines.

In addition to these common problems, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia has been particularly problematic, with engine issues, loud ticking sounds from the engine, and electrical problems causing major reliability woes.

While the Alfa Romeo Giulia offers a blend of beauty and sporty handling that is charming and easy to overlook its flaws, its reliability has been a concern for many owners. With proper maintenance, it can be a reliable choice for driving enthusiasts, but the high number of recalls and reliability issues may make it a tough commitment for some buyers.

For absolutely no reason, my sunroof randomly exploded with no 3rd party influence such as a rock/animal etc etc. The music was at a low level where I could have easily had a soft spoken conversation if I would have had a passenger present. There was absolutely no reason for the sunroof to explode. When the sunroof exploded it caused glass to fall into the vehicle aswell as fly back to the rear of the vehicle blocking the rear windshield. In addition to blocking my view, this caused the paint and body to be severely scratched. The explosion of the sunroom was so loud and jarring and sudden, that if there had been any other vehicles on the road, there would have been a high chance of this incident causing a motor vehicle accident and potentially causing myself death or harm. Negative 2023 Alfa romeo Giulia car reviews

  1. Osborne Brakus 2024-06-25

Rented the car for one day and unfortunately did not have a great experience. The car had some issues such as jerking when the gas was released and the turn stalk being a bit of a nuisance. It was difficult to cancel a turn signal after changing lanes unless you pulled the stalk in the opposite direction with a certain amount of force. Additionally, the inside of the car felt rather noisy and the infotainment system was overly complicated. However, I appreciate the opportunity to try out a different type of vehicle and will be sticking with Japanese cars in the future.

Do you remember the cars from behind the Iron Curtain? They weren't much fun, were they? Well, if you want to experience that again, you could try an Alfa Giulia. I had one for 3 days as a rental, and that is 3 days more than anyone should be punished with one. The Toyota Camry I had felt like a luxury car in comparison. The trunk can only accommodate one small suitcase and the steering posture is uncomfortable, with the steering column hitting your knees. The shifting paddles are garish chrome and about the size and shape of ballet slippers, sticking out far to either side. If you want to use the turn signal or the windshield wipers, you will have to fight with the paddles first. The start button is also on the steering wheel, which may not be to everyone's liking. The automatic gearshift feels like the whole trim is coming apart when you shift. Overall, the car may not be for everyone, but it certainly has a distinctive style that sets it apart from other cars. The interior styling of the car may not be to everyone's taste, but it's important to remember that different people have different preferences. While it may not be the right fit for some, others may find it appealing. However, it's understandable to have reservations about the design. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Positive 2023 Alfa romeo Giulia car reviews

  1. Tremaine Hettinger 2025-01-04

I absolutely adore this car! As a car enthusiast who has owned many Alfas, Porsches, Audis, Mercedes, a Maserati, and a Ferrari, I can confidently say that the Alfa Giulia surpasses them all in terms of all-around fun, practicality, and overall performance. I have owned two Giulias and both have been wonderful with no issues. I recently sold my glossy black 2021 Giulia because Alfa made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a 2023 model with red leather sports seats and paddle shift option. I also appreciate that I was able to figure out the navigation system (which uses Tom Tom). The dark metallic gray color is also great, although I must admit that the Silverstone Silver of my first Giulia was my favorite exterior color. The car continues to amaze me and makes even the most mundane trips to the cleaners or market entertaining. In my opinion, the Giulia is the best car I have ever owned. The steering and handling are superb, and unless Alfa comes out with an ICE powered car to top this, I plan on keeping it for the long term. If you're a car lover, you absolutely must give the Giulia a try!

It's still early to tell, but I already feel at home here.

Just received my QV after quite a long wait. I'm so glad to say that there is no disappointment at all! The connection you get whilst behind the wheel is truly amazing. It's the best in its class for performance, experience, and value. It's a complete package for a 4 door saloon.

  5. Mohamed Lubowitz 2024-08-10

I have owned a few BMW 3 series and driven Mercedes’ and Audi’s but there is something about the Giulia that really stands out. The driver connection is much stronger. In terms of reliability, which seems to be a concern for non-owners, it has not let me down (other than a dead battery once). If you are unsure, I highly recommend test driving it and making your own judgment. Additionally, Alfa's customer care team has been fantastic!
