The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

Is Range Rover Evoque 2018 reliable?

The Evoque has the image, equipment and residual values that premium SUV buyers expect, but its reliability is very poor.

What is the common problem of Range Rover Evoque?

Range Rover cars are often known for being more high-maintenance than their counterparts, and true to this trend, the first-generation Evoque had its fair share of known issues. Some Evoque owners reported problems with their transmission, such as rough shifting, slipping gears, or complete transmission failure.

Is it a good idea to buy a Range Rover Evoque?

Out on the road, whichever engine you go for, the Evoque is generally a comfortable companion, but it does have a tendency to fidget and jiggle over rough surfaces at lower speeds. Considering its off-road readiness, this is a posh SUV that's also surprisingly fun and capable in corners.

Are Range Rover Evoques expensive to fix?

The average annual repair cost for a Land Rover is $1,174, which means it has average ownership costs. The other factors that contribute to Land Rover reliability include an average of 0.7 visits to a repair shop per year and a 16% probability of a repair being severe.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
  • Consequence: If the vehicle fails to warn the driver of low tire pressure, driving the vehicle may result in tire tread separation, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the TPMS setting to correct the illumination setting, free of charge. The recall began on March 9, 2018. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N164.

Negative 2018 Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Domenico Zemlak 2024-08-25

The car has some drawbacks such as the lack of lane keeping feature which makes it difficult to stay within the lines of the road. The engine is also quite crude and loud, and the transmission can be jerky in upshifts and downshifts. Additionally, the brakes tend to pulsate when applied. However, the car does come with optional Windsor Leather seats which are very nice and give a sense of luxury. While the back seats are not very spacious, they may be suitable for children under 11. Overall, the car may be a good choice for those who prioritize luxury and style over practicality. It is important to note that the convertible version may become a collector's item in the future.

I purchased this car on 2/14/2017 and as of today (7/18/2020), it has only been driven for 15,600 miles. Unfortunately, I have had to have it towed twice in the last year due to complete engine failure. Additionally, the rear brake caliper had to be replaced in 7/2019 and again in 6/2020 after only 3000 more miles. While I had to pay for the first replacement, the second one was covered by the warranty. The dealership is unsure of what is causing the issue, but they have been friendly and helpful throughout the process. Although it is the prettiest car I have ever owned, it has spent more time at the dealership than any other car I have owned. I am 59 years young and I have found the service department to be understanding and empathetic. They always try their best to help, even if they cannot recreate the customer's problem. I have decided to trade it in at the end of this month, as I have found out that the trade-in value has decreased by $34k from what I paid for it just 3 years ago, despite it having only 15,700 original owner miles. While it is a beautiful car, it unfortunately does not hold its value. I would not recommend purchasing it, but rather suggest printing out a photo to admire. It is a beautiful car that may be better suited for display than for driving.

  3. Orion Quitzon 2024-06-12

After driving 65k miles, we had to change the transmission. Unfortunately, our warranty had ended at 50k. However, we were lucky enough to have an aftermarket warranty. Additionally, we experienced some electrical problems.

  4. Henri Thiel 2024-05-04

Hi there! I've had my 2016 Evoque for 2 years now, but unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with the engine light coming on every 1 or 2 months. Although it's frustrating to have to bring it in for repairs so frequently, the service advisor at the dealership knows me well by now. I wanted to share my experience with you, as I've never written a review before. If you're considering purchasing a Range Rover, please be cautious and do your research. I hope this helps!

  5. Russ Balistreri 2024-04-29

I had some issues with my HSE from the very beginning. Unfortunately, it was the only vehicle I've ever owned that had engine problems and had to be towed back to the dealer. It even failed on me in the worst possible conditions (-27c). Although the vehicle looks cool and gets compliments, it's unreliable, noisy inside the cabin, and expensive to maintain. I didn't feel comfortable driving it on the highway for routine driving. I decided to take a loss and switch to a Volvo instead.

  2. Jayde Dickens 2024-08-08

I'm so glad to hear that you love this vehicle! It definitely has a sporty and fun look to it, and it's great to hear that it has plenty of power. It sounds like it would be a great fit for a single or retired person as well!

  3. Maximus Gorczany 2024-07-07

So far, the RR has satisfied all my requirements for a luxury SUV. Although I would have liked the auto passing sensing technology to be included as standard equipment on my SE Premium package. I feel very fortunate to have been able to purchase the Evoque.

  4. Jesus Hegmann 2024-06-09

I absolutely love driving the 2017 Evoque SE that I leased! I took a bit of a gamble by leasing a CPO vehicle with 5500 miles on it from a dealer who had it as a service loaner, but it has performed really well for me on both long and short trips. Depending on the trip, I get different fuel mileage, but I can always expect at least 26 mpg on the highway. Although I did have some maintenance issues with the cooling system, such as slow leaks in some hoses and the radiator, I never got stranded and the CPO package includes roadside assistance. Overall, I'm really happy with my experience and I'm even considering purchasing the vehicle at the end of the lease because the new Evoque is quite different from this one!

  5. Gussie Corwin 2024-05-23

This car exudes class from the moment you approach it and that feeling continues as you settle into the driver's seat. While it may not be the most spacious option, it is certainly engaging, embracing, and assuring. Although the 2 litre petrol engine may lack power, a quick chip and remap can release an additional 30bhp. It's a shame that JLR didn't include this as standard, but overall, I love this car. It makes a statement and stands out from the competition with its style, design, and impressive off-road performance. I highly recommend test driving and owning one, despite its minor flaws. Enjoy it for what it is!
