2014 Chevrolet Ss problems
Super Sport, or SS, is the signature performance option package offered by Chevrolet on a limited number of its vehicles. All SS models come with distinctive "SS" markings on their exterior. The SS package was first made available for the 1961 Impala. Some of the other models bearing the SS badge include the Camaro, Chevelle, El Camino, Impala, Monte Carlo, Nova and Chevrolet Pickup Trucks. Current SS models are produced by the GM Performance Division.

History
In December 1956, Chevrolet unveiled a show car based on the first generation (C1) Corvette called the Corvette Super Sport. In early 1957, the Chevrolet Corvette SS debuted — a custom built racing sports car that was the first Chevrolet to wear the SS badge.
In 1961, the SS "kit" (known as a sport and appearance package) was offered on any Impala for just $53.80. The package included Super Sport trim for both the interior and exterior, chassis reinforcements, stronger springs and shocks, power brakes, spinner wheel covers, and narrow-band whitewall tires. The car's dashboard received a Corvette style passenger hand bar and a steering column mounted 7000-rpm tachometer. Chevrolet built 491,000 Impalas that year and 453 had the SS package, of which 311 received the 348 cid and 142 received the 409 cid. Since 1994, the SS package has been used on a variety of GM vehicles, including pickup trucks, four-door sedans, and front wheel drive cars.
Both historically and today, the Super Sport package has typically included high-performance tires, heavy-duty suspension, and increased power, along with a variety of other performance and appearance upgrades.

This has occured consistently since I bought the car new and has left me stranded on multiple occasions. This problem has been addressed in the 2015 model years of my car but the recall never applied to my 2014 car, which has the exact same battery drain issue (see SB-10057076-5170 and bulletin no. 14395). I just want the manufacturer to address this so I can get my car fixed without paying a ridiculous price.

- Summary: My seatbelt cable broke on 8/9/2021. I put the belt on and as I was adjusting the belts, the belt/cable that is attached to the floor by driver side door broke. I took it to the Chevrolet dealership to get it fixed and I did see that there was a recall on my model, but my VIN wasn’t listed so the dealership was gonna charge me for the repair. My car has the same issue with the recall but they wanted to charge me to get it fixed even though it was a safety issue! It’s not my fault that the cable broke! It’s Chevrolets’! (NHTSA Recall 16V518) So I’ve been driving without a seatbelt now for 8 days. The dealership didn’t even sound concerned that I could have gone thru my windshield if I were in a wreck! Yes, they actually let me leave the dealership without a seatbelt! No more Chevrolets for me!

THE RESOLUTION WAS THE DEALER WAS TO APPLY DIELECTRIC GREASE TO THE STEERING RACK CONNECTOR TO PREVENT CORROSION, LEADING TO A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS ISSUE HADN'T OCCURRED UNTIL 2017. BUT I HAVE HAD TWO RECENT INSTANCES WHERE THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY LOOSES ALL POWER STEERING AND THE DRIVER INFO CENTER MESSAGE SAYS "SERVICE POWER STEERING, DRIVE WITH CARE". ALL POWER STEERING IS OUT, YOU HAVE TO MUSCLE THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF UNTIL THE "RETAINED ACCESSORY POWER" GOES OUT. RESTARTING THEN "FIXES" THE ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO SERVICE ON 05/18/2017 AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO TRACE OF DIELECTRIC GREASE ON MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CONNECTOR. THE GREASE WAS APPLIED DURING THIS VISIT AND I WAS GIVEN MY VEHICLE BACK ON 5/19/2017, ONLY TO HAVE THE ISSUE RECUR THIS MORNING, 06/03/2017. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THIS REMEDY OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT WORK.

THIS OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY, WITHOUT ANY PRECIPITATING FACTORS, AND AT RANDOM INTERVALS. IF POSSIBLE AND STOP, AND TURN THE CAR OFF, THE STEERING ASSIST WILL WORK AGAIN AND MESSAGE WILL DISAPPEAR. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED THE THE ACTUAL MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING, AT MY OWN GREAT RISK, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL OVER AND CONTROL THE CAR. THE DEALER IS NOT HELPFUL IN THIS REGARD, THEY WILL EITHER DISREGARD IT ENTIRELY STATING 'THEY ALL DO THAT' (!!!) OR 'WE CAN'T DUPLICATE IT, SO WE CANT FIX IT." QUITE FRANKLY THE DEALER RESPONSE SEEMS EXTREMELY BLAISE ABOUT THIS, AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF MINOR ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY COMPLAINT, AND I HAD IT PERFORMED, AND THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. I AM BEGINNING TO BE AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR, IN CASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN, AND I CAN'T BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AND/OR SWERVE. THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS IF AN ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK! - Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet SS and Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicles (PPV) that were previously repaired under NHTSA recall number 16V-518. The repair may not have been performed properly. The driver's seat belt tensioner cable may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.
- Consequence: If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to determine whether the new seat trim was installed and replace the trim as necessary. Dealers will also inspect and replace the pretensioner cable assembly, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2020. - Consequence: A greater steering effort would be needed to control the vehicle if power steering is lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. I bought my Chevy SS back in July 2014 and have driven over 75,000 miles with it. I absolutely love this car and it's definitely the best sports car I've ever owned. Unlike other cars that try to be sports cars with a few add-ons, this car was built to be a sports car from the ground up. It's perfect for driving every day, as a family car, or just for a solo ride. The handling, stopping power, and overall performance of this car are truly addictive. The only issue I've had was with the electronic steering, which broke down three years into my ownership. During the spring, summer, and fall, I use summer tires, and in the winter, I switch to snow tires on black wheels. All in all, this car is amazing, especially considering its low price.
