1997 Mitsubishi 3000gt problems
The Mitsubishi 3000GT is a front-engine, all-wheel/front-wheel drive grand touring/sports car manufactured and marketed by Mitsubishi from 1990 until 2000 over three different generations. Manufactured in a three-door hatchback coupé body style in Nagoya, Japan, the 2+2 four-seaters were marketed in the Japanese domestic market (JDM) as the GTO, and globally as 3000GT. In North America, it was sold both as the Mitsubishi 3000GT (1991–1999) and the Dodge Stealth (1991–1996), a badge engineered, mechanically identical captive import. As a collaborative effort between Chrysler and Mitsubishi Motors, Chrysler was responsible for the Stealth's exterior styling.
The car was based on Mitsubishi's Sigma/Diamante and retained their transverse mounted 3-liter, 24-valve V6 engines and front-wheel-drive layout. The GTO's engines were naturally aspirated or with twin-turbochargers and were also available with active aerodynamics (automatically adjusting front and rear spoilers), four-wheel-steering, full-time all-wheel-drive and adaptive suspension.
Mitsubishi marketed a retractable hardtop variant, which were engineered and converted from coupé models in California by ASC, and sold as the GT Spyder or VR4 Spyder for model years 1993–1995. These were the first fully automated retractable hardtop marketed since the 1959 Ford Skyliner.
The JDM model took its name from the Galant GTO, a two-door hardtop coupé marketed by the company in the early 1970s, which in turn took its name from the Ferrari 250 GTO, short for Gran Turismo Omologata – "Omologata" signifying that it met motorsport homologation requirements.

Does the Mitsubishi 3000GT a reliable car?
While there are a number of potential issues to watch out for, the 3000GT is a well-built car and if maintained well can provide years of pleasurable motoring.
How long do Mitsubishi 3000gts last?
Yep, it'll last as long as you take care of it. I know of a few above 300k. 1997 3000GT VR4 - 17 years of ownership - TD05-16G E85 600whp - Daily Driver 😈 - Broken Again! definatly 250k+ miles if you take care of it.
Why did Mitsubishi stop making 3000GT?
1999 was the final year the 3000GT was available in the U.S. market. With sales slowing to a trickle and new side impact regulations looming, production for the Japanese domestic market finally ceased in 2000.
Is the 3000GT a rare car?
While the 1999 3000GT VR-4 is the rarest of the bunch, with just 287 being sold in the US market before Mitsubishi discontinued the 3000GT, a 1998 model with so few miles on the odometer is likely even rarer.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-11-23
- VIN: JA3AM44H1VY
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: MY CAR IS WELL KEPT AND GARAGED AT NIGHT. IN NOVEMBER 2012, I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE CAR AND WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC OF 20 YEARS THAT MY "TOTAL FRONT END" ON THE CAR NEEDED REPLACED. THIS REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF GASKETS, AN OAL FLEX, RACK & PINION, AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. IT WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE JOB WITH THE EXPLANATION GIVEN THAT IT WAS "WORN OUT." NOW, THE STEERING IS A PROBLEM WITH STRANGE SOUNDS AND THE PERIODIC MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING. AN INSPECTION OF THAT DISCLOSED THAT NOW, THE "INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON THE STEERING WHEEL" NEEDS REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I AM FINDING OUT THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL CARS RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT IS THE CASE FOR THIS CAR. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICES FOR THIS. I LOVE MY CAR BUT AM WONDERING WHY SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR (AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE) IS HAVING ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS NOW. I WAS EVEN TOLD THAT THE SUSPENSION WILL BE ANOTHER FUTURE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY MANUFACTURER PURPOSELY SEALED THEM WHEN THEY WERE MADE WHICH MAKES THEM IMPOSSIBLE TO SERVICE AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. THIS WAS NEVER TOLD TO ME WHEN I PURCHASED IT. PLEASE ADVISE IF I HAVE ANY RECOURSE WITH THE MANUFACTURER FOR THESE REPAIRS. THANK YOU. *TR

ALSO CREATED THESE TRANSMISSIONS IN SUCH A MANNER THAT THEY CAN NOT BE REPAIRED, ONLY REPLACED. IT WOULD HAVE COST ME $6000 TO REPLACE THIS HAD I NOT NOTICED IT UNTIL 3 MORE MONTHS HAD GONE BY. Your baby (3000gt) is also Amethyst Pearl and you love it. You don't see yourself ever getting rid of it. You live in NH, and before the bad weather comes in November, you store it away until April.

This car is actually a grand touring vehicle, not a sports car. It's designed to go very fast on straight lines in all elements. Let's start with the acceleration. Even in stock form, the 1994 and up TT models can do 0-60 in 4.8-4.9s and the quarter mile in 13.4-13.6@102-105mph, which is very impressive even by today's standards. Many owners, including myself, have run 13.2/13.3s with just a K&N air filter. This makes the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo seem somewhat lacking in speed. The boost is very strong and pulls until redline. I didn't modify mine besides the K&N, but the potential is definitely there. The handling is very good for a heavy car, but it can't be thrown around like the slower Z32 TT. It nose dives a bit. The brakes are amazing. The interior is luxurious and modern. There's not much to say about it really. Some tall drivers may think they can't fit, but I'm 6

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 97 SL. I've had it for several years now and it's been a great car. When I bought it in late 2001, it had 30K miles on it. Today, it has over 192,000 miles and it still runs pretty well. It can do 15.0 @ 91MPH in the 1/4 mile, which isn't too shabby for a V6 that gets 25.5 MPG. I've found that as long as you keep up with the scheduled service, it will last a long time. Take care!

We have owned three 3000gt's so far. My husband has a beautiful low mileage '93 vr4, we recently sold a '93 red sl and we found my '96 in Houston two years ago. I absolutely love my car! I drive 50 miles on the highway to and from work 4 days a week. This car handles wonderfully in bad weather. We've had very few problems with her even though she has high miles.

I love this car! I used to drive Fieros for years, and while they were fun, this car is like its big, powerful brother. When I first got it two years ago, it took me a few days to get used to the incredible power it has. Even with over 250,000 miles on it, on my drive from SC to NY, I hit a stretch of road that was basically 50 miles of open road with little to no traffic. I looked down and did not realize I was traveling over 100mph because the car was so smooth. Even with over 200,000 miles on it and doing 110mph, the car wanted to just go faster... and I did, LOL!
