1995 Buick Regal problems

buick logo

The Buick Regal is a line of mid-size cars marketed by Buick since 1973. For nearly its entire production, the Regal has served as the premium mid-size/intermediate offering of the Buick product range. Introduced as a submodel of the Buick Century, the model line is currently in its sixth generation. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the Regal served as the Buick counterpart of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

Originally introduced as a personal luxury coupe, the Regal was later expanded to a full model line. To showcase its success in NASCAR racing, from 1982 to 1987, Buick introduced the Buick Regal Grand National, Regal T-Type, and the limited-production Buick GNX. During the 1990s, while the four-door sedan superseded the two-door coupe entirely, forced-induction engines made their return, with superchargers replacing turbochargers.

For 1999, the Buick Regal inaugurated the sale of GM vehicles in the Chinese market, with the 1997 design lasting through 2008. Following the 2004 model year, Buick retired the nameplate in North America, with the Regal replaced by the Buick LaCrosse.

For 2008, Opel introduced the Opel Insignia as its largest sedan, with Buick rebranding the model line as the Regal for the Chinese market. For 2011, GM reintroduced the Regal to North America, rebranding the Insignia sedan for North America. For 2018, Buick introduced the second-generation Opel Insignia, sourcing all production from Germany; alongside a first-ever liftback sedan, the Regal TourX was the first Buick station wagon in 22 years.

After 2020, as the division shifted away from car model lines, Buick ended sales of the Regal in North America.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-07-01
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: 1) CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION 2) CAR REFUSES TO START / DOES NOT RECOGNIZE KEY & SIGNALS "ANTI-THEFT" I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. TRAFFIC SLOWED AHEAD FOR A RED LIGHT. APPROACHING THE STOPPED CARS AHEAD I SLOWED MY CAR DOWN TO APPX. 15MPH. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. I HIT THE GAS TO CONTINUE AND WHEN NOTHING HAPPENED I REALIZED THAT MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE POWER STEERING WAS STIFF AND I HAD JUST ENOUGH SPEED LEFT TO MOVE ACROSS TWO LANES IN TO A STORE PARKING LOT. THE CAR SHUTOFF MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER THAT, BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR. THE MECHANIC THINKS THAT MY CAR IS NOT RECOGNIZING THE KEY & THAT I NEED A NEW KEY BECAUSE THEIR TESTS ARE SIGNALING THAT THE CAR WILL NOT CRANK DUE TO AN "ANTI-THEFT" ISSUE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT HAS BEEN THE ISSUE THE ENTIRE TIME. THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS & I AM LUCKY NOT TO HAVE WRECKED MY CAR THAT DAY. OVERALL, I HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES, SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, AND HAD MY CAR TOWED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. *TR

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-11-01
  • VIN: 2G4WB12L2S1
  • Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
  • Summary: WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM WORK ON A VERY BUSY STREET (HIGHWAY) THE CAR DIED. SINCE THEN I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT'S GOING TO DO IT AGAIN. SOME DAYS IT DIES 5 OR 6 TIMES. I'M A SENIOR RELIANT ON SOCIAL SECURITY INCOME AND ANY EXPENSE IS "UNWELCOME", HOWEVER, I HAVE SPENT NEARLY $1,000 TO NO AVAIL. SEVERAL TIMES AFTER A REPAIR THE CAR DIED A BLOCK FROM THE REPAIR SHOP. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE TRAINED MYSELF TO FLIP THE SHIFT GEAR INTO NEUTRAL & TURN THE KEY ON(CAR USUALLY RESTARTS - IN 2 INSTANCES IT DID NOT AND I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE INTO A NEARBY DRIVEWAY USING "ARMSTRONG POWER STEERING"). CHARACTERISTICS ARE THE SAME AS THOSE NOTED IN THE CURRENT (MARCH 2014) GM RECALL. I LOVE THE VEHICLE AND AM NOT IN A POSITION TO BUY ANOTHER, THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE SPLENDID FOR GM TO OFFER TO REPAIR IT. IT IS NOT JUST ME, AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP LOOKED ON-LINE @ WWW.CARCRAZY.COM AND DISCOVERED MANY BUICK REGAL OWNERS AS FAR BACK AS 1993 & 94 HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

SECOND, THE PAINT STARTED PEELING WHEN THE CAR WAS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT HE COULD DO ABOUT IT WITHOUT CHARGING US FOR A PAINT JOB. ($3500). I THEN CONTACTED ANOTHER DEALER IN ANOTHER TOWN A COUPLE YEARS LATER AND WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD REPORTED IT SOONER THAT BUICK WOULD HAVE PAINTED IT FOR ME AT NO CHARGE. I HAD MISSED THE CUT-OFF AT THAT TIME BY A COUPLE MONTHS AND A THOUSAND MILES. THIS CAR NOW HAS 114,000 MILES ON IT AND STILL RUNS OK. WE USE IT AS AN EXTRA VEHICLE FOR WINTER DRIVING BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT EITHER. FINALLY, THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWO TIMES AND NEEDS IT AGAIN. I CAN'T SEEM TO GET THEM REPLACED OR TURNED EXCEPT WITH GMC PARTS WHICH IS NOT WORTH IT.

  • Summary: ON JAN. 8,2003 I HAD A COMPLETE BRAKE INSPECTIO AND REPAIR DONE BY TUFFY'S AUTO SERVIVE AT 4164 N. MILWAUKEE IN CHICAGO. I NOTICES S SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM MY LEFT FRONT WHEEL. I RETURNED TO TUFFY'S FIVE (5) TIMES, THE LAST BEING ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 20, 2003. AT THIS TIME, MR JIM JANICEK, THE DISTRICT MANAGER FOR TUFFY'S WAS PRESENT. AGAIN THEY INSPECTED MY BRAKES AND I WAS ASSURED BY MR. JANICEK THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BRAKES. AT THIS TIME, MR. JANICEK, THE DISTRICT MANAGER FOR TUFFY'S STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT I WAS WASTING HIS TIME AND NOT TO RETURN. ON MAY 29, 2003, ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I DEVELOPED A LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM MY LEFT FRONT WHEEL WITH GREATLY REDUCED BRAKING POWER. ON MAY 30, 2003 I AGAIN WAS CHARGED , THIS TIME FOR TWO (2) CALIPERS TO REPAIR BRAKES. I BELIEVE THE CALIPER FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE THE WORK DONE BY TUFFY'S TO BEGIN WITH.ON JULY 8, ON MY WAY TO THE HOSPITAL, AS MY WIFE MUST GO WEEKLY; TRAVELING AT A RATE OF 30 MPH IN MEDIUM TRAFFIC I HAD COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. DRIVING AT A RATE OF 10 -15 MPH I WAS ABLE TO TAKE MY CAR TO LYNCH BUICK AT 5330 W. IRVING PARK RD. IN CHICAGO. THEY INSPECTED MY BRAKES AND FOUND THERE TO BE A SUBSTANCE THAT WAS NOT BRAKE FLUID IN THE SYSTEM. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR WILL BE OVER $1,000.00. TUFFY'S WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY TOOK A SAMPLE OF THE FLUID FROM THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. TUFFY'S STATED THE THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAD ANTI-FREEZE IN IT. TUFFY'S AUTO SERVICE ON NORTH MILWAUKEE IN CHICAGO WAS THE ONLY ONE TO WORK ON MY BRAKES AND THE ONLY ONE UNDER THE HOOD FOR ANY REASON SINCE JANUARY 8, 2003., H DUE TO THE GREAT TRAUMA CAUSED BY TUFFY'SLYNCH BUICK WILL REPAIR MY CAR. WHEN TUFFY' BOTCHED THE FIRST JOB, I GAVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE, THAT CHANCE ALMOST COST ME AND MY WIFE OUR LIVES. I FEEL THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DO ANY MORE BRAKE REPAIRS ON ANY VEHICLES. *AK

Negative 1995 Buick Regal car reviews

  1. Edmund Grady 2024-07-01

I am confident that the alternator will need to be replaced again within the year, as it has failed three times in the past two years. However, I still love the car.

  2. Denis Crist 2024-04-04

I got her in the summer of 05 with over 130K miles and she ran like a beauty. She outlasted many of my friends' much younger cars. Although I had to change the brake pads frequently and the rear left caliper seized up on me, she was a great first car. When she finally died, she had over 200K miles on her. I definitely got my money's worth!

  3. Levi Schmeler 2024-01-25

Although my experience with this car has been challenging, I have gained valuable knowledge about its mechanical issues. Over the years, I have encountered several problems, including issues with the master cylinder and brakes. Despite these challenges, I have persevered and learned how to manage these problems. While I am ready to move on from this car, I am confident that my experience has prepared me to handle any future car-related issues with ease.

Positive 1995 Buick Regal car reviews

  1. Bud Kuhn 2024-11-18

96000 miles and it just runs great. It gets 25.5 mpg with mixed driving and the ride is really great.

  2. Gustave Crist 2024-11-12

I purchased this car used with 68K miles and have since driven it for 25K more. It has proven to be a great, affordable family car that gets excellent gas mileage for its size. As I age, I have come to appreciate Buick as a trusted brand. If you are in the market for an affordable used car, I highly recommend considering a car like this. The only downside is that your kids may not be too keen on driving or inheriting it. I have had to replace the spark plug wires, front and rear shocks, and signal flasher unit, but overall it has been a reliable vehicle for long highway trips. The 3.1L engine is dependable, although it is starting to consume a small amount of oil.

You got this car at 50k and had it for 10 years, that's amazing! It's beautiful inside and out, with tan leather and black paint that really turns heads. I'm so glad to hear that you were able to sell it to your friend as you downsized, and that he loves it!

I bought this adorable little car 7 years ago, used, with 80k miles on it. It's amazing that it's still going strong even after I've driven it for 140k miles. I get about 27mpg on the highway, which is great. It has plenty of pickup and is very comfortable. I make sure to do regular maintenance and oil changes. I had to replace the water pump and wheel struts, and put all new brakes on last year, but it's still worth it. Even though I keep thinking I should buy a newer car, this one is just so reliable and economical!

I bought the car with 18,000 miles on it and have driven it for 100000 miles. It has been the most reliable car I have ever owned! The only problem I had was with the air conditioner clutch. This car sure blows the myth about foreign vehicles being more reliable than American cars.
