2011 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.
Debuting as a compact pickup in North America in 1982 for the 1983 model year, the Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries. From 1998 to 2011, the Ranger nameplate was used for models developed by Mazda for sale outside the North American market. In 2011, Ford introduced the first Ranger based on the T6 platform. Considered a mid-size pickup truck, the model was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In that same year, the North American-market Ranger was discontinued, leaving the T6 platform-based Ranger as the sole Ranger model worldwide.
For the 2019 model year, the Ranger was reintroduced in North America using the globally-marketed T6 model. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant at Wayne, Michigan. The Ranger is smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick in the Ford North American pickup truck range, while for markets outside the Americas it is typically the only Ford pickup offered for sale.
The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was released in 2021 for worldwide markets, using a revised T6 platform.

Common 2011 Ford Ranger problems
The Ford Ranger, a compact pickup truck, is known for its versatility and capabilities, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. This article will delve into these issues, focusing on the 2011 model year, based on complaints from owners.
- Transmission Problems: Gearbox Slippage
Some Ford Ranger owners have reported automatic gearbox slippage between the 2nd and 3rd gears and the 3rd and 4th gears.
- Leak in Crankshaft Seal
Many generations of the Ford Ranger have experienced a leak in the crankshaft seal, which causes oil drips. This problem can be attributed to a damaged valve cover gasket or a faulty oil pan. The crankshaft seal is subject to immense stress, making it prone to wear and tear.
- Engine Problems: Turbo Failure and Engine Crank Damage
Common engine problems on a Ford Ranger include turbo failure and engine crank damage, which cause excessive overheating, dark smoke from the exhaust, and a dip in fuel economy. Engine problems can lead to serious trouble, so it is always better to consult a mechanic right after noticing any faults.
- Crankshaft Sensor Failure
The crankshaft sensor is responsible for reading the engine's RPM and position, then feeding that data into the ECU to regulate the time of fuel injection. Intermittent crankshaft sensor failure can result in a dip in fuel efficiency, engine misfires, and sluggish acceleration. In some cases, the Ranger might not start due to a faulty crankshaft sensor.
- Fuel Injector Issues
A clogged or dirty fuel injector in a Ford Ranger can lead to an imbalance in air and fuel supply, causing problems like engine stalling, rough idling, engine misfires, and a significant drop in fuel economy. A faulty fuel injector can also affect the engine performance, making it difficult to drive, particularly in off-road conditions.
In conclusion, while the Ford Ranger is a capable compact pickup, it is not without its common problems. These issues range from transmission slippage and leaking crankshaft seals to engine problems and faulty sensors. Regular maintenance and addressing these issues promptly can help ensure the longevity and reliability of the Ford Ranger.

- Summary: Took my 2011 Ford Ranger to the local dealer for the mandatory airbag and knee plate replacement pick up the vehicle they gave me paperwork saying the parts have been replaced happened to be working under the dash yesterday and found that parts were not replaced bolts were missing whether or not they removed anything or not I would doubt it and highly doubt that the airbags were replaced being as the main structural replacement wasn't replaced as the repair order says it was obviously there's a fraud involved here because the dealers claiming they repair the car per a safety recall and didn't or did a half-ass job and replace some parts or not all I don't really know is I'm not taking apart the steering column to get to the airbags but I do know that the knee plate which was should have been replaced and the repair order says was was not which makes me believe nothing was replaced I had issues right from the get-go trying to get this repair done now to find out it was fraud so I am now driving a 2011 Ford Ranger that is most likely as dangerous as it was before the airbags were supposedly replaced this needs to be looked into but I will not go back to that dealer especially after what I found I have paper documentation claiming they did the work but didn't please advise and investigate

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the stiff suspension and handling of the truck! It sounds like you're having a lot of fun driving it in the desert.

Hey there! If you're looking for a truck, I'd recommend going for the extended cab option. The standard cab doesn't have much room other than for 2 people. On the bright side, it gets good mileage! Just keep in mind that if the heater becomes an issue, it can be a bit of a headache to have fixed.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Ford Ranger. I bought it used in November, and it was previously a city vehicle with 52000 miles on it. I really love the long bed, which is perfect for my needs. Since purchasing it in May 2019, I've made some upgrades, including replacing the shocks, tires, and brakes with drilled/slotted discs, as well as upgrading to all LED lighting and a better stereo. The difference is amazing! Despite being a 4 cylinder, the truck has a lot of power and gets great gas mileage, which is a huge bonus. I'm a pretty tall guy at 6'5

The Ranger is such a great little truck! It does everything I need it to do.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2010 Ford Ranger Super Cap. I purchased it in March 2010 with 18K miles and it was a great truck with no problems. However, on March 31, 2012, while driving, it caught fire and unfortunately burned up completely. Thankfully, my passengers and I were able to get out safely and were not hurt. We noticed a burnt-match-like smell and investigated, only to find that the truck was already on fire and we couldn't lift the hood. I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. Take care!

I drove a 1991 Mazda B2200 for 238,000 miles and decided to upgrade to a new truck. After some research, I settled on the Ford, which is supposed to be similar to Mazda. While the Mazda had 94 horsepower, the Ranger claims 148. However, on the same trip I have driven a hundred times with the Mazda, the Ranger couldn't pull the same hills without slowing down. It has higher gearing so it can't pull like the Mazda did. On some sections of bad road, it handles poorly, and the quality is a bit sloppy. I noticed burrs on the door handles, steering wheel, and emergency brake lever. Additionally, the cover on the steering wheel that covers the airbag has a gap that caught my coat sleeve button, which is not ideal.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Ranger and ask for your thoughts. I recently took my Ranger to a dyno shop in Sacramento and it produced 124 peak horsepower, which seems about right considering the power loss from the drive train. However, I've noticed that the Ranger doesn't seem to pull hills as well as my 1991 Mazda truck did, even though they both get 27.5 miles per gallon. It's surprising that Ford hasn't made more progress in the past 19 years to improve gas mileage. Additionally, I was disappointed that Ford chose to make the bed shorter, which makes it difficult to fit larger items. I even had to purchase a Ford bedliner, which unfortunately doesn't fit items that are six feet long. What are your thoughts on this?

I recently purchased a 2010 Ford Ranger Sport, 6cyl, auto, which I mostly use for in-town driving. The fuel consumption is 20 L per 100 km, which is less than 14 mpg (CDN gallon). I have noticed that the truck revs at over 1000 rpm until it has reached max temp, which means that on a flat stretch, it will do over 20 kph without putting your foot on the accelerator. However, I have found that this can be a bit hard on the brakes when going through parking lots and down any sort of incline. I usually arrive at my destination before the truck has completely warmed up, which can be a bit inconvenient. I brought this matter to Ford's attention, but they stated that this is the way these Rangers are built. While I find this a bit annoying and potentially dangerous, I still enjoy driving my Ranger around town.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my new truck. It's affordable and has great mileage, which is perfect for my daily commute and occasional loads. The fit and finish are impressive, and while the front ride is a bit too soft for my liking, it's still a great ride. The styling is a bit dated, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. With the 4.10 gears, this truck could have been a cult classic if it had a 6-speed. The NVH of the motor could be better, but the 2.3 aluminum block Duratec design is 9 years old and not too bothersome. Shifting and clutching are smooth and intuitive, making for a pleasant driving experience. Thank you for letting me share!

The frame of my Ford rusted out in just six years, despite having less than 50,000 miles on it. This experience has led me to decide not to purchase another Ford in the future.
