2007 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

Common 2007 Jeep Grand cherokee problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee 2007 is known for several common problems that owners have reported. These issues cover various aspects of the vehicle, from the engine to the suspension system.
- Throttle Body: The throttle body, which is a crucial part of the engine management system, is made of plastic and is prone to breaking down over time. This can lead to leaks and require replacement. To replace the throttle body, you need to drain the coolant, remove the hose, and replace the throttle body with a new one. Make sure the surfaces are clean, and then reassemble the parts.
- Ignition Switch: The ignition switch can also be a problem in the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. If the ignition switch fails, it can prevent the vehicle from starting. To diagnose this issue, you can have someone crank the engine while you listen for the sound of the starter solenoid engaging. If the sound is faint or there is no sound, the ignition switch may be the problem and need replacing.
- Fuel Pump: The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel to the engine. If the fuel pump fails, it can prevent the vehicle from starting. To diagnose this issue, you can use an OBD2 scanner to read codes stored in the Jeep's computer. This can help you narrow down the problem and start troubleshooting from there.
- Starter Motor: The starter motor is responsible for starting the engine. If the starter motor fails, it can prevent the vehicle from starting. To diagnose this issue, you can use an OBD2 scanner to read codes stored in the Jeep's computer. If the starter motor is the problem, it may need to be replaced.
- Thermostat: The thermostat is responsible for regulating the engine's temperature. If the thermostat fails, it can cause the engine to overheat. To diagnose this issue, you can use an OBD2 scanner to read codes stored in the Jeep's computer. If the thermostat is the problem, it may need to be replaced.
- Suspension System: The suspension system is responsible for providing a comfortable ride and maintaining the vehicle's handling. If the suspension system fails, it can cause the vehicle to handle poorly and be uncomfortable to drive. To diagnose this issue, you can look for signs of air suspension problems, such as a sagging or uneven ride height.
These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's important to note that every car has its problems, and the Grand Cherokee is no exception. However, with proper maintenance and regular inspections, many of these issues can be prevented or caught early before they become serious problems.

2007 Jeep Grand cherokee recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 7 recalls for different components of the 2007 Jeep Grand cherokee.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler Group LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, drivers should adjust their seat to allow clearance between the driver's knee and the ignition key, and remove all items from their key ring, leaving only the vehicle key. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, to July 5, 2007, and 2006-2007 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, to July 5, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the OFF or ACCESSORY position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. Chrysler sent interim notifications to owners in September 2014. The recall began on October 9, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P41.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler Group LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)
- Summary: Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, through March 9, 2010; and 2006-2010 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, through March 10, 2010. A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.
- Consequence: If the vehicle shifts into neutral, it may roll away increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N23.

I am a proud owner of a 2007 Grand Cherokee, which I bought used with 110K miles on it. Despite its age, it is in excellent condition both inside and out, and comes with full-time 4WD. As someone who enjoys off-roading on weekends, I have owned several other 4WD vehicles in the past, including a lifted Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40, and Subaru Impreza. However, none of them compare to the luxury feel and ride of my Grand Cherokee, which also has a solid live rear axle that makes it tough enough for towing or off-roading. Even without low range gearing, it handles rough terrain off the pavement with ease and has a very assured feel. On the highway, it handles like a car at speed, despite its high ground clearance. The 3.7 V6 engine has plenty of torque and has even left some V8-powered SUVs and trucks behind. Although the gas mileage is only about 14 mpg, I carry a lot of gear inside and have roof racks. I have not experienced any problems with the transmission not shifting, and the overall handling, power, ride quality, and rugged Jeep styling hold up to much newer and more expensive 4WD SUVs that all look the same. Even though my Grand Cherokee is basically stock with minor modifications, I get lots of looks from other drivers in lifted trucks and modified Wranglers and high dollar Range Rovers, which I would not trade it for. Based on how it feels off-road, I would trust it with the right suspension set up and tires/wheels as much as my Wrangler and FJ-40, even without low range transfer case or lockers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a truly versatile vehicle that can handle both daily driving and rough terrain with ease. The base Laredo 4WD model boasts the same Daimler transmission as the SRT-8 version, which was one of the fastest SUVs ever built. Despite some reported transmission problems, a certified Jeep mechanic should be able to fix any issues with ease. The 3.7 litre V6 engine provides plenty of torque and power, making it a great choice for both city driving and long freeway trips. With its comfortable seats, good visibility, and useful grab handles, the Grand Cherokee is a great choice for anyone who enjoys off-roading. Overall, the 2005-2010 models strike the perfect balance between luxury and ruggedness, making them a great choice for any driver.

The Hemi engine option is definitely the way to go! The power is incredibly smooth and the ride is very car-like, making it a joy to drive. Although it is slightly lower and less roomy than our 2004 Mountaineer, the redesign in 2005 really improved the Jeep. Plus, with the end-of-year deals, it was a great buy. The SUV handles really well, and while the gas mileage is down, I love the exhaust sound and the ability to go - especially since it's still new and not broken in yet (only 300 miles on the odometer). The navigation system and Sirius radio are great features, and the standard remote start system really makes this SUV stand out. I highly recommend driving the 4.7 V8 first and then the Hemi - you will be sold!

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo Rocky Mountain edition! It's great to hear that you were able to find a certified one-owner car with only 17,500 miles on it. From your description, it sounds like the interior and exterior are almost pristine, with little sign of wear. Although the alloy wheels have some scratches on them, I'm sure you'll be able to buff them out. The car feels and drives like new, which is fantastic. Additionally, it's great to hear that it has a sliding moonroof and a premium Boston stereo system. While it doesn't have Bluetooth, you can always use a Bluetooth earpiece. It's interesting to hear that you had considered a Ford Escape, but ultimately decided on the Jeep due to its larger size and better ride. Enjoy your new car!

If you thought that the USA was out of the auto race, you are wrong. This is one classy vehicle! It's a solid, well-built true 4WD Jeep that includes every option known to man. There's plenty of room inside, nicely arranged for maximum comfort. While leg room is tight for tall folks in the back seat, the front seat is spacious and even has heated seats. The Hemi engine is also very impressive and powerful. I highly recommend this vehicle!

I've been driving Jeeps since 1998, starting with the Cherokee. In 2004, I purchased my first Grand Cherokee and in December 2006, I upgraded to a 2007 Overland. I must say, this SUV is fantastic! The design improvements are noticeable, and the suspension is a significant upgrade from the 2004 model. Although I had some issues with the CD player, it was quickly resolved under warranty. The Overland is great in the snow, but then again, all Jeeps are! I particularly love the wooden steering wheel in the Overland, and the interior is now similar to a loaded Limited. There isn't much difference between a 2009 loaded limited and an Overland. I have the 5.7 hemi, and it runs about 15.5 mpg in the city/highway. The GPS is excellent, but the newer versions have a 3D mode, which is even better. Lastly, the 2007 model improved the ease of folding the rear seat.

I've been a loyal Jeep owner for years, but I'm disappointed with the reliability of the new Grand Cherokees. Unfortunately, Chrysler won't cover the replacement cost of my defective Shifter Module, even though it's a common issue. The estimated cost to repair is $1025.00 (incl tax/parts/labor), which is frustrating. I'm considering other options, like the Honda Pilot, but it's tough to leave the Jeep family. Have you had any experience with this issue?

I bought a Jeep with only 3 miles on it. I can relate to the uncertainty of whether the Jeep will accelerate and the windows that seem to have a mind of their own. Unfortunately, the dealership has been unable to reproduce these problems. To add insult to injury, the engine has now 'thrown a rod' and I have been quoted between $7,000-8,000 to get it fixed. I don't have all of my oil change receipts, but I was told the oil was 2 quarts low. The oil was changed just 5 weeks before the engine blew and there were no warning lights. It's frustrating to have spent so much money and not be able to drive the vehicle for more than 3 years. Needless to say, I won't be buying another Jeep product.

I purchased my car new in early '08 with every option available. At my 3 year check-in, it had 54k miles on it. Although I do 90% highway driving, I have had to get 7 brake jobs done. Additionally, I have experienced 27 incidents of the check engine light coming on, which resulted in 2 pcm's being replaced, 2 exhaust manifold gaskets being replaced, and various cracked pieces of plastic being broken while at the dealer being repaired. Unfortunately, the cost of replacing these broken pieces of plastic will be quite high, and the dealer denies any responsibility. I have never driven my car roughly, nor have I ever been in an accident. My experiences with dealers have been hit and miss, with most being unable to address SRT issues and fix them properly.

I recently purchased a used Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that came with a DVD nav system under warranty. However, I have noticed that the maps loaded from the factory do not show neighborhoods that have been in use since the 80s or new roads since then. Unfortunately, the dealer update DVD for $200 does not guarantee up-to-date maps either. I caution against purchasing the Ebay version as well, as even if it is the original OEM, it still does not solve the problem. It is disappointing that the maps are not covered under warranty. Despite this, I have found that my $80 Tom Tom surpasses this system in terms of quality and reliability.

If you own a 2007 Cherokee, please be cautious. I had an experience where I lost all acceleration while turning onto a busy road, and despite pressing the pedal to the floor, I could only reach 15 mph. When I took my Jeep in for service, they told me that there was nothing wrong and that it was probably due to bad gas. However, this continued to happen almost weekly, and now, a year later, it occurs several times a day. I have taken my Jeep in for service multiple times, but they always tell me that there is nothing wrong. I am in a difficult position where I cannot sell my car, and I do not have the funds to purchase a second one. Every time I get in my Jeep, I feel like I am putting myself and other drivers at risk. If anyone has any advice, please let me know.
