The Mercury Sable is a range of automobiles manufactured and marketed by the Mercury brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced on December 26, 1985, as the replacement for the Mercury Marquis, the Sable marked the transition of the mid-size Mercury product range to front-wheel drive.
Over its production span, the Sable was Mercury's badge-engineered counterpart to the Ford Taurus, below the Grand Marquis in the Mercury range. From the 1986 to 2005 model years, it was produced as a mid-size four-door sedan and five-door station wagon. For 2006, the Sable was replaced by the full-size Montego and mid-size Milan. It was reintroduced for 2008 as a full-size car, offered as a four-door sedan.
Because of declining sales, the Sable was discontinued after the 2009 model year, leaving no Mercury counterpart for the sixth-generation Taurus. The final Sable was produced on May 21, 2009; in total, 2,112,374 Sables were produced during its 1985–2005 production.

THEN SEVERAL DAYS AGO I WAS DRIVING WITH THE SEAT ON AND WITHIN LESS THAN TWO MINUTES THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT FELT SO HOT THAT I IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT OFF BECAUSE I FELT LIKE IT WAS BURNING ME. IT STILL WAS SO HOT THAT I HAD TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND GET OUT JUST TO GET OFF THE SEAT. THAT IS WHEN I SAW THAT THE HEATING ELEMENT ON THE LEFT SIDE HAD BURNED RIGHT THROUGH THE LEATHER. IN TOTAL BOTH FRONT STRUTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES (THE ORIGINAL AND TWO REPLACEMENT SETS) AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT STRUT IS AGAIN MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND, SAME AS BEFORE. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE ORIGINAL AND FIRST REPLACEMENT SET AT THEIR COST BUT THE LAST SET WAS AT MY COST. WITH THE STRUTS SHOWING SIGNS OF NEEDING REPLACEMENT AGAIN I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE FUNDING FOR THE COST, THERE IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT IN THE STRUTS IF THAT MANY BECAME DEFECTIVE IN THAT SHORT OF A TIME PERIOD. THE THIRD INCIDENT OCCURRED ON APRIL 20, 2016 WITH 40,665 MILES ON ODOMETER. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT WHILE THIS VEHICLE IS USED PRIMARILY FOR OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL, ALL 3 INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE RETURNING HOME FROM OUT OF STATE TRIPS AND WITHIN ABOUT A 70 MILE RADIUS IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THE ENGINE WILL READILY RESTART AFTER A SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE RAN SMOOTHLY BOTH BEFORE AND FOLLOWING EACH SHUTDOWN, AS WELL AS ALL OTHER TIMES DURING THE LIFE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALER CHECKED THE ENGINE THIS WEEK AND FOUND NO CAUSE FOR ENGINE SHUTDOWN NOR VEHICLE RECALLS. I AM INCLINED TO BELIEVE THAT THIS ENGINE SHUTDOWN ISSUE IS NOT ISOLATED TO THIS ONE VEHICLE. I FEAR THAT SUCH ENGINE SHUTDOWNS WILL LEAD TO A CATASTROPHIC CRASH PARTICULARLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED ON CROWDED INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS IN LARGE METROPOLITAN AREAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WE TRAVEL ON THESE HIGHWAYS AROUND INDIANAPOLIS, CINCINNATI AND ST. LOUIS. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN 5 MINUTES. ONCE I ARRIVED IN DANVERS I DROVE TO THE DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR WEDNESDAY8/28/13. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPEENING SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2011. I own a 2008 Ford Expedition EL, and while I love the vehicle, it does consume a lot of gas. I'm averaging 10 mpg, mostly due to in-town driving. To address this, I decided to pick up something more fuel-efficient and drive my Expedition less. I recently purchased a pre-certified 2008 Mercury Sable with about 14,000 miles on it, and I've had it for a little over a month. I absolutely love the car! It's spacious on the inside, and my three kids (ages 15, 12, and 5) have plenty of room in the back seat. The car came out of the rental fleet, and I'm dealing with an alignment issue, but other than that, I'm pleased with the car. I like it so much that I'm already thinking 3 to 4 years down the road, taking a serious look at the new Taurus.

I've owned this car for 3 years and put 60K miles on it. Without a doubt, it is the best car I've ever owned. The only issue I had was with the seat heater, but it was quickly fixed under warranty. As a 72-year-old who has owned and driven millions of miles in many cars, I can confidently say that this car is the MOST COMFORTABLE one I've ever sat in. The higher seats make it incredibly easy to get in and out. I recently replaced the OEM Pirelli tires with new Hankook Optimo's, and it feels like I'm floating on air. It's a shame that Ford stopped making such a fantastic car. Based on the responses here, it seems that 96% of people agree with me. I wonder why Ford made that decision. However, the new Taurus is a pretty good alternative, in my opinion.

I used to own a 2005 Sable Premier that I absolutely loved, but unfortunately it got totaled. I was so fond of it that I decided to look for another Sable. After searching online, I found a used 2009 Premier with all the bells and whistles, 85K miles in 2015. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in person, as it was much larger than my previous model and had been detailed so well that it looked brand new. I got it at a great price, 2K under KBB suggestion. As an UBER driver, my passengers love the spacious rear seats that can comfortably fit three large adults without touching each other. I'm a firm believer in the saying 'if it's not broken, don't fix it', and at the current 280K miles, nothing has been replaced or fixed under the hood. It's all original and starts and runs smoothly, with an impressive 20.2 overall gas mileage. Living in a city with terrible streets, full of sinkholes, potholes, and manhole covers 2 inches above or below the street level, I've had to replace the control arms twice as the struts and control arms can't handle it. Now, to get to the point of my post, it's time for an upgrade and I'm considering a late model Taurus. It seems to be the closest thing to my beloved Sable.

I'm so excited to share my experience with you! I recently purchased a fantastic car for only $28K, which included a $2k discount from the dealer and a $2k factory rebate. The sticker price was $32K, so I feel like I got a great deal. The car is incredibly spacious and comfortable, with a huge back seat and trunk. I was even able to fit 9-foot items in the trunk with the passtru and passenger front seat down! The SYNC feature with my Verizon LG cellphone and Apple iPod is fantastic. While the gas mileage isn't the best, it's important to remember that this is a large and safe vehicle with AWD. The fit and finish are on par with any Honda or Toyota, and I'm impressed with the power and smoothness of the ride. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and I can't believe Ford isn't advertising this amazing vehicle!

The car's transmission required replacement despite having only 50,000 miles on it. Additionally, both heated seat elements were not functioning properly and the transmission was slipping into gear slowly. However, I am confident in my ability to address these issues and ensure that the car is running smoothly once again.

The car rolls on an incline when in gear, which is a serious safety concern, especially for those living in mountainous areas. Despite Ford's request to take it to 6 different dealerships for repair, all of them claim that they cannot duplicate the issue. However, this problem has been persistent since the car was serviced for the first time at 1K miles. It is imperative that the dealerships take this issue seriously and conduct a thorough investigation to identify and fix the problem. As a confident car owner, I expect the dealerships to provide a satisfactory solution to this issue.

We initially fell in love with our Sable (purchased used in July 09) due to its spacious and comfortable interior, powerful engine, and overall great performance. However, we have experienced some non-mechanical and non-engine related issues over the past year. For instance, the truck hydraulics broke and almost caused harm to my wife. Additionally, the left steering linkage went bad, making it difficult to turn the car left while driving. The driver's side heated seat stopped working, and currently, the air flow actuator motor (which directs the air flow from the A/C) is malfunctioning. We have also had some issues with the door trim molding (black rubber seal) coming loose twice and the preset buttons on the radio sticking severely. While these issues are certainly frustrating, we remain hopeful that they can be resolved. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Although I have owned many Fords in the past, this is my first brand new car. However, I have experienced some issues with it such as a faulty driver's side seat heater element, a burnt out bulb in the instrument cluster (which unfortunately cannot be replaced), a drivers door seal that does not stay in place, erratic shifting between first and second gear, and an erratic idle. While the car is comfortable, I believe that the overall quality could be improved. On a trip, the best MPG I have achieved is 21, with an average of 17-19. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my ability to address them and continue to enjoy my new car.
