2023 Jeep Gladiator problems
The Jeep Gladiator is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by the Jeep division of Stellantis North America (formerly FCA US). It was introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28, 2018, and went on sale in the spring of 2019 as a 2020 model. Based on the same platform as the Wrangler JL, the Gladiator is Jeep's first pickup truck since the Comanche was discontinued in 1992.
Jeep Gladiator is also being marketed in Australia and New Zealand as the first markets outside the Americas. It is also officially available in North America, parts of South America, parts of Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, parts of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Israel, and South Africa.
History
The vehicle's name harkens back to the original Jeep Gladiator, made in 1962 until 1988 and known as the J-Series after 1971. Jeep considered reviving the Gladiator name alongside Comanche and most commonly Scrambler, as well as simply using a new name, before deciding on Gladiator, feeling it fits the truck the best.
A two-door version of a Jeep Scrambler pickup based on a lengthened Wrangler was shown in 2003 at the National Automobile Dealers Association meeting.
In late-2004 the Jeep Gladiator concept was introduced. The 2005 Gladiator Concept did not feature a removable roof, but had removable doors and a pickup bed. It also previewed the design of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler (JK). The Gladiator concept was powered by a 3.0 L Common-Rail Diesel (CRD) engine produced by VM Motori (similar to the one used in some models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee), mated to a manual transmission, and four-wheel-drive. It featured functional rear mini-doors, and rear seating. The Gladiator concept featured a green-on-gray color scheme for both the exterior and interior.

Common 2023 Jeep Gladiator problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2023 Jeep Gladiator, several common problems have been reported:
- Engine Issues:
- Owners have reported stalling, hesitation, or misfiring while driving, potentially caused by faulty spark plugs, fuel injectors, throttle body malfunction, fuel pump, or engine control module. Some have experienced problems with intake camshafts, lifters, and Rockers, leading to noises from the engine, especially at low miles.
- Solution: For engine control module issues, an updated software version is available for reflash, while parts like camshafts may need replacement.
- Transmission Problems:
- The automatic transmission has been known to have shifting issues, including slow shifting and jerking. Some drivers have reported overheating during off-road use, leading to potential serious problems.
- Solution: Jeep has issued recalls to address transmission issues, but some owners have also reported leaky transmissions even at low miles.
- Braking, Steering, and Suspension Concerns:
- While the brakes are generally reliable, some drivers have reported noisy brakes with a shattering sensation, which can be alarming. Suspension bushings wearing out quickly have caused clunking or rattling noises while driving.
- Solution: While these issues are minor individually, they can affect the overall driving experience, especially for a vehicle known for its off-road capabilities.
These problems highlight some key areas where the 2023 Jeep Gladiator may fall short of expectations for owners. Addressing these issues promptly can help ensure a smoother and safer driving experience with this vehicle.

Almost got hit by two other vehicles. No other symptoms observed other than when on a freeway a few months ago, the vehicle was having difficulty switching to a higher gear in a stop and go traffic. - Summary: Every time I fill up with gas it splashes up and over quite a bit. I have tried many different ways to get it to stop splashing. Slowed down the flow, changed positions of the tube. Slowed down the flow to try and not let it splash up towards the end of the fill. As soon as it gets close, it splashes over, on my fender, and about a 1 foot gas spot on the ground every time. I have not been to the dealer yet, I have decided to report this online, to see if anyone else has, and I feel this is a safety and hazard issue to the environment.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES

The safety concern is that the vehicle should not move with the brake pedal pressed and this issue is allowing the vehicle to move. the brakes have to be pumped several times to get them to work when the issue arises. vehicle is currently back at the dealer since 3/28/24 trying to replicate the issue to resolve since no DTC's are coming up.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-12

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-19
- VIN: 1C6JJTAG1PL
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: This Gladiator had at the time less than 5k miles on it. I went to start the Jeep and there was no power. No lights, not starting nothing. I called the dealer. They would not deal with me without going through JEEP WAVE, Called a tow company to tow to the dealer purchased from. The tow truck driver tried to jump the jeep with his portable system. We did get a few lights, still not starting. When the Jeep was delivered to the dealer the service clerk witnessed the same issues. The jeep was then taken to service and put on its charger and it started. I asked what would have drained the battery, but did not explain why this would have happened. The dealer kept the Jeep for a week. They could not reproduce the issue. Jeep Wave called and offered to pay me a sum of money to forget about this problem. From my research, this is an ongoing issue with the Gladiator and it stems from the Aux Battery. When I ask Jeep and the dealer about it they act as if they have no clue as to what I am talking about. All one has to do is google this problem. There are plenty of people having the same issues.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-30
- VIN: 1C6JJTEG8PL
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Brand new Jeep gladiator. 458 miles on it and the windshield glass cracked. No rock or external object hit it, simply faulty glass. I went to an online forum and found that windshields cracking on jeep’s is extremely common and Jeep refuses to warranty or do anything about it.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-05
- VIN: 1C6HJTAG0PL
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Headlights on new Jeep vehicles are terribly bright and poorly aimed so that they blind all oncoming traffic. There are many other newer vehicles with similar problems, but Jeeps seems to be the worst, along with Dodge Ram pickups. Please do something about getting laws passed to require proper aiming of headlights. The new HID and LED lights are obnoxious enough when they are aimed properly and there is a tiny change in elevation of the road. But if you drive down a flat country highway, you can easily see 1 out of 10 cars coming at you with much brighter lights than all the others. This should be illegal and those cars should be banned from the road until the problem is fixed.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-28
- VIN: 1C6JJTEG7PL
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: At 5,700 miles on my 2023 Gladiator the drivers side rear brake caliper bolt fell out. This created a loud bangin inside the wheel and damaged the wheel as well. Upon stopping the caliper pivoted and lodged into the wheel not allowing me to back up.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-26
- VIN: 1C6HJTAG9PL
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
- Summary: At 4k miles hit small bump, jeep vibrated violently this has happened on multiple occasions at highway speeds & was very dangerous. Dealer has vehicle in shop for over 24 hours blame’s tire alignment, they had just rotated tires.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-11
- VIN: 1C6HJTFG8PL
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I have 2 Jeep gladiators and both are gasoline powered. The problem is the fuel nozzle cannot go fully into the receptacle to add gas. This causes the fuel nozzle to not sense when to click/stop the fuel coming from the gas station pump when the tank and filler hose of the Jeep are full. The result is that gasoline splashes out of the refueling receptacle and then both onto me and also down the side of the bed of the Gladiator on the drivers side where the fuel refill receptacle is located. I put a camera borescope into the fill nozzle and this obstruction can be seen in the attachment.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-29
- VIN: 1C6JJTBG0PL
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Every single time I try to fill my gas tank, at any gas station, the gas pours out and shoots up fast out of the tank fill hole. I have even slowed down filling, and when I hear it getting close coming up the pipe, I let of the pump handle and it will still come up and splash out. I have 3100 miles on it, and it has done it every single time. I have to wipe gas off my fender and it splashes enough to run down on the ground every time. I think this is an immediate safety and environmental issue.
STEERING,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-28
- VIN: 1C6JJTEG8PL
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Was driving and my vehicle came up and said I had an issue with the electrical power steering assist system and was going to shut off. I was waiting at a red light the vehicle put itself in park and shut down. I restarted the vehicle and it would not move out of park or any of the windows or radio controls would function. I upon restarting four more times was able to get it back into drive and return home. The steering functioned fine but the radio, back up camera, aux power port, and windows still do not work. Once I returned home this seems to be a reoccuring problem on the Gladiator and Jeep Wrangler platforms. Seems these vehicle throw either one of two codes which I am not sure which mine is but considering the light is out for check engine I am going to say I have the P0563 error and not the P0562 which from what I am reading leaves the light on in most instances. My vehicle has 1803 miles on it and was purchased the first week of April 2023.

The Diesel option is great when paired with the Rubicon. It provides smooth power and excellent fuel mileage.

I originally owned a Rubicon Hard Rock and absolutely loved it! When Jeep teased the Gladiator, I knew it was perfect for my needs. After waiting four years, test driving, and purchasing, I can confidently say that it was truly worth the wait! The 2023 Gladiator Rubicon took everything from the Hard Rock and dumped it on the Gladiator, including the 4 to 1 transfer case, 4.10 to 1 electronic locking differentials, and front sway bar disconnect. They even added a little touch with the off-road + switch. The difference in driving a Wrangler and a Gladiator is a pleasant surprise, with the same off-road characteristics, shimmy shakes, etc., but muted. The Gladiator rides like a pickup that is fighting you to get off the road and onto the trail. Once you get off the road, it smooths out like a car going from gravel to a paved road, smooth as silk. While improvements over the years could have been made, it's past time to flip the steering system to keep it out of the way. Trailing arms, springs, and track bar should have been upsized on the higher trim levels instead of having to swap aftermarket. Jeep knows a winch is going on the front, so it's time to put beefier stuff up front so you can add the winch and bumper without having to add to the suspension for the added weight. Winch-ready bumpers are not winch-ready, and you have to buy the additional winch plate. Aftermarket light mounts should be standard, at least on the bumper, especially for the price paid. This is the best of both worlds, and a removable top and doors? Need I say more?

I purchased my Labor Day weekend 2022 and it came outfitted with 20in rims, 35 inch tires and fox shocks. The Gobi color caught my eye and I just had to circle the block. Before, I was driving a 2020 Volvo XC60 R design that I traded in and I haven't missed it since. In almost two years, the Gladiator has only accumulated 30k miles and I've only had to go to the dealer for oil changes. I understand that it may not be for everyone, but I love the simplicity of the drive train and the lack of nanny computer driving assist. It reminds me of classic pick ups with modern conveniences. Without a doubt, it has become my favorite vehicle ever. Taking the freedom panels off makes any day better. - Gladiator

I've been a loyal FORDS driver for the past 30 years! However, I do wish I had considered a Jeep earlier. As for purchasing, I would recommend avoiding LAMPE VISALIA.
-
I really like everything about my Jeep.

So far, it's okay. However, it's quite loud and doesn't have many upgrades.
Weston Nicolas 2024-06-22
The diesel gladiator was purchased with the expectation of better mileage, however, it did not meet the desired fuel efficiency.
