SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-12-22

  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: MY ABS PUMP HAS FAILED, AND CHRYSLER IS FAILING TO COMPLY WITH NHTSA RECALL #96V260000 HAVING TO DO WITH THE ABS PUMP. THE RECALL CLEARLY STATES THAT "THE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON ASSEMBLY AND THE PUMP-MOTOR ASSEMBLY WHICH WILL HAVE A LIFETIME COVERAGE". I CALLED THE CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER TODAY, AND AT 5:01PM PST, SASHA TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THAT PART, AND I WAS DENIED HELP. THE NHTSA RECALL CLEARLY STATES OTHERWISE. TRYING TO FIND ANSWERS ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER DENYING AND REFUSING SERVICE, BECAUSE APPARENTLY THIS PART CAN NO LONGER BE HAD. WHY IS THEIR DIRECT CONFLICT WITH THE STATED LIFETIME COVERAGE ON THE RECALL? I ALSO LEARNED THAT LAST YEAR CHRYSLER WAS FINED $105 MILLION BY THE NHTSA FOR MISHANDLING RECALLS. IF THE NHTSA ALLOWS CHRYSLER TO DENY THIS, LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY MAY FALL ON BOTH PARTIES, AS I WILL BE CONTINUING WITH LEGAL ACTION. *TR

Sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with your Jeep. It sounds like you've had to replace quite a few parts already. Have you considered taking it to a trusted mechanic for a diagnosis? They may be able to help you identify and fix the electrical problems you're experiencing.

I bought this Jeep at a public auction, and while it has been a good car, it has had its fair share of repairs. Within 4 months, I had to replace the thermostat, serpentine belt, all fluids, oil twice, tire weights, tire alignment, tire balancing, CV joint, steering column bolts, radiator, muffler, and even the transfer case chain! Despite all of this, it is still fun to drive, although the gas mileage could be better. If you're considering buying a used one, make sure to check it out very carefully!

234,000 miles with no engine or transmission repairs. I just traded it in for a new car and I have to admit, I was sad to see it go!

  2. Peter Wisoky 2024-10-10

Your Jeep sounds like a real trooper! With 112000 miles on it and still going strong, it's clear that it's been well taken care of. It's impressive that it's been able to handle such tough terrain, and it's great to hear that it's been such a reliable vehicle for you. Even with the road noise, it's clear that you've had a lot of fun driving it in so many different places. It's understandable that you're ready for a sedan now, but it's great that you're planning to keep the Jeep around for all your hunting, hauling, and commuting needs. It sounds like it still has a lot of life left in it!

I've been driving Jeeps since I started driving and this one is fantastic! It's comfortable, reliable, and durable - what more could you want? With 14,800 miles on it, it's still running strong. It's perfect for any outdoors person and stylish enough to take out on the town. It has pure pulling power, so don't be afraid to hook up your trailer or boat. It has a smooth ride on the highways, but remember to replace the shocks when needed. If you can find a clean one, don't hesitate to buy it!

  4. Ernest Dooley 2024-09-03

When you first bought your Cherokee in May 1996, it already had 100,000 miles on it. With a touch-up in the paint and some new tires, it was just like new. You took it so far into the woods that the only vehicles at the end of the trail were a Jeep Wrangler and another Cherokee. The Jeep has quite good acceleration too. When you hit the gas, there is this amazing feeling of raw power. You would never get rid of it!

  5. Pierre Nienow 2024-08-26

Overall, I'm really glad I bought this car. It's 13 years old and has 145k miles on it, but it's been running great without any engine or transmission problems. That's pretty rare to find in a car these days. I did have an oil leak and drove without oil for a while without realizing it, but even that didn't cause any extra problems. Jeep Cherokees are definitely one of the most reliable and dependable cars out there.
