jeep logo

The Jeep Cherokee is a line of SUVs manufactured and marketed by Jeep over five generations.

Marketed initially as a variant of the Jeep Wagoneer, the Cherokee has evolved from a full-size SUV to one of the first compact SUVs and into its current generation as a crossover SUV.

Named after the Cherokee tribe of Native Americans in the United States, Jeep has used the nameplate in some capacity since late 1973 when American Motors Corporation introduced the 1974 model year line.

  • Summary: WORKING 450 MILES FROM MY HOME I WAS GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION I HEARD AN AWFUL SOUND OF METAL CLUNKING AROUND IN ENGINE (LOUD). PULLED INTO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT I HAD A VERY BAD EXHAUST LEAK. THE RATTLING HAS STOPPED UPON MY ARRIVAL SO HE NEVER HEARD IT. MAN INFORMED ME TO TAKE IT SLOW ON WAY HOME BUT GET IT LOOKED AT VERY SOON.ON MY WAY BACK, THE RADIATOR FAN STARTED MARKING A NOISE LIKE IT WAS HITTING SOMETHING. PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT A BOLT WAS READY TO FALL OF THE FAN. TIGHTENED AS BEST AS I COULD &. ALSO NOTICED THAT A BOLT TO THE SHROUD MISSING. ALSO SAW THAT THE FAN BLADES HAS SHEARED OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE SHROUD. CUT WAS FRESH. NOW THE FAN WAS STILL HITTING THE SHROUD BUT ONLY WHEN I ACCELERATED FOR TAKE OFF. NEXT DAY, JEEP RUNNING LOUD & ROUGH.UPON RETURNING HOME, MECHANIC CRAWLED UNDER AND IMMEDIATELY COULD SEE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT MOTOR MOUNT. HE THEN LOOKED AT THE ENGINE AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT SITTING LEVEL. CONCLUSIONS WERE FORMED THAT DUE TO THE ENGINE DROPPING FROM 3 BOLTS SHEARING OFF THE RIGHT MOUNT (ONLY ONE BOLT REMAINED!), EVERYTHING HAD STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. THE EXHAUST LEAK WAS DUE TO THE SHIFTING OF THE ENGINE. ALSO, BRAKES WERE STARTING TO FAIL. FAN HITTING DUE TO THE ENGINE SHIFT. WILL INFORM YOU OF THE ACTUAL NECESSARY REPAIRS AS I AM MADE AWARE OF THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS. MY JEEP HAS 121,000 MILES ON IT. 1994 JEEP CHEROKEE COUNTRY SPORT 2 DOOR. I NEVER GO OFF-ROADING AND MY JEEP IS USED TO TRANSPORT ME TO WORK. ALL HIGHWAY DRIVING EXCEPT SOME CITY ROADS. Negative 1994 Jeep Cherokee car reviews

  1. Ibrahim Ankunding 2024-11-13

I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying your Jeep for almost ten years now! It's great to hear that it's still running strong after all this time. It sounds like you've taken really good care of it, with regular maintenance and a few necessary repairs. It's impressive that it has almost 200,000 miles on it! While you also have a 2001 Dodge Durango R/T, it's clear that your Jeep is your go-to vehicle for daily use. It's great to have a reliable car that you can depend on. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

  2. Bernhard Kiehn 2024-10-06

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with the Jeep Cherokee. Despite hearing some negative things about the vehicle, I can confidently say that the one I have is outstanding.

I purchased this Jeep from my father who had owned it for two years. During my college years, I took it on road trips and used it for everything imaginable. It has been a reliable vehicle with no major issues. I added a 2-inch lift for cosmetic purposes and performed regular maintenance, including replacing the radiator which still runs hot. The body is beginning to rust near the tailpipe, and some paint is starting to fade, bubble, and peel. Currently, I am only getting about 13 miles per gallon, but it just adds more character to the Jeep.

I didn't enjoy my car because it was very unreliable. Even a Yugo seemed like a luxury car compared to my old one.

Although I bought it used, I have been able to maintain it well. I have had to replace the TPS sensor and ignition coil, but overall it has been a reliable vehicle. The ride can be a bit rough and there is some wind noise, but this is to be expected from a boxy car. The interior plastics are not the highest quality and the electrical system can be finicky at times. Occasionally, the power door locks can be difficult to unlock manually. The brake lights have also had some intermittent issues. However, I am confident in my ability to keep this car running smoothly.

Positive 1994 Jeep Cherokee car reviews

Just wanted to share that I recently bought a used Jeep and I absolutely love it! As a new Jeep fan, I've heard mixed reviews about these SUVs, but I personally adore the boxy design. It's definitely an upgrade from my previous '92 Oldsmobile Cutlass. So far, I haven't encountered any issues with my Jeep, but I haven't had it for very long.

I bought my jeep from my father after I got tired of sending each paycheck to the mechanic to fix my volvo. It's amazing that 80,000 miles later, it hasn't had any problems. I only had to replace a water pump two years ago and haven't done anything beyond regular maintenance since then (now it has 150k). The ride is very rough, but that's what you'd expect for an SUV. If you can help it, don't get 2WD as it handles just awful in inclement weather with no weight in the back to keep it from fishtailing. Otherwise, it's been dependable, good for towing and moving stuff, and gas mileage is not too bad.

I bought my Jeep brand new and drove it for 50,000 miles in the first 2 years with no major problems. Although the ride is a bit rough and the power is excessive for regular on-road driving, I have found it to be a reliable vehicle. The gas consumption averages about 15-16 in the city and not much higher on the highway. My Jeep is quite basic, but I did have the dealer install an aftermarket cruise control for about $90, which has been a great addition. The exterior is very durable - I've hit a deer twice and backed into a wall, but the bumper and finish only required minor work and still look fantastic. Overall, my Jeep has been outstanding since day 1 and now my son wants to keep it for when he gets his license.

I bought my Cherokee used about a year ago with only 28K on the engine. Although I've had some minor interior problems such as the seatbelt getting caught in the door, some cracked plastic panels, and rips in the vinyl, I still enjoy driving it. Despite a slow fuel leak that lowers my mpg to about 14, I still find it fun to drive and wouldn't choose any other car.
