1999 Jaguar Sedan range problems
The Jaguar XJ is a series of mid-size/full-size luxury cars produced by British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars (becoming Jaguar Land Rover in 2013) from 1968 to 2019. It was produced across five basic platform generations (debuting in 1968, 1986, 1994, 2003, and 2009) with various updated derivatives of each. From 1970, it was Jaguar's flagship four-door model. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have been designed under the leadership of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder, and the model has been featured in countless media and high-profile appearances.
Series 1, 2, and 3 (1968–1992)
Overview
The first generation Jaguar XJ was produced for a total period of 24 years, with two major facelifts – in 1973 and in 1979, with a raised front bumper and less tall grilles.
For four years, the 1968 introduced XJ was always a four-door, straight-six saloon on a 2.76 m (108.75 in) wheelbase. In 1972, a more spacious, 4-inch (10 cm) longer wheelbase (LWB) option, and a 5.3 litre V12 engine were added. On the XJ series II (from 1973), the standard wheelbase (SWB) saloons were cancelled in 1974 – but a SWB two-door (series II only) coupé was sold from 1975–1978.
The 1979 series III saloons received a redesigned greenhouse (upper body) and bumpers. The 6-cylinder series III models were replaced by the second generation Jaguar XJ in 1987, but the V12 models not until 1992.

Are 90s Jaguars reliable?
Jaguar XJ Sedans
For many Jaguar fans, the models released in 1995-1997 are the most reliable vehicles the brand has ever produced and, by extension, some of the most reliable cars of the 90s. Sadly, Jaguar canceled the XJ series due to production capacity issues.

Are old Jaguars good cars?
Issues with Jaguar's electronics, airbags, and transmissions aren't as rampant as the problems owners experience with the brakes and engine. However, they're still worth mentioning. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2000-07-24
- Number Of Injuries: 3
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1J4FY49S4XP
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: ON 07-24-2000 I WAS FORCED TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES TO TRY TO AVOID HITTING THE REAR END OF A CHEVROLET S-10 PICKUP TRUCK . MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I SKIDDED ABOUT 20 FEET BEFORE IMPACTING THE REAR OF THE S-10 WHO HAD ALREADY HIT A RED VAN THAT SLAMMED ON BRAKES TO AVOID A DOG. UPON IMPACT, MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH MY PASSANGER AND I WERE WEARING SEATBELTS. MY PASSANGER SUSTAINED WHIPLASH AND BOTH LEGS WERE INJURED FROM UNDERNEATH DASH BOARD. I ALSO SUSTAINED WHIPLASH TO MY NECK AND BACK. I REPORTED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE AND AIR-BAGS FAILURES TO DAIMLER-CHRYSLER MANUFACTURE. I WAS TOLD A SAFETY INSPECTOR WOULD CONTACT ME. HE DID. HIS NAME WAS DON WADE. HE WANTED ME TO DRIVE THE JEEP TO A DEALERSHIP BUT I TOLD HIM HE COULD COME TO MY HOME AS I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS ALREADY A SAFETY HAZARD FROM MECHANICAL PROBLEMS CHRYSLER REFUSED TO FIX AND NOW WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES FAILING AND AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING, I WAS AFRAID TO PUT IT ON THE ROAD. I ALSO TOLD HIM I WAS AFRAID IF I HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE IN THE ROAD, THE AIR BAGS WOULD DEPLOY SINCE THEY DIDN'T UPON IMPACT. HE IS SUPPOSED TO CALL ME AGAIN WITHIN THE NEXT TWO DAYS AND HE WAS NOT VERY NICE AT ALL. CHRYSLER HAS ALREADY VIOLATED A MEDIATION DECISION ON THIS VEHICLE AND NOW THERE ARE THESE SAFETY ISSUES AS WELL. I DO NOT TRUST DAIMLER CHRYSLER, THEIR DEALERSHIPS, ESPECIALLY CROSSROADS JEEP IN INDIANAPOLIS SINCE THEY HAVE ALREADY LIED AND REFUSED TO HONOR THE MEDIATOR'S SUPPOSEDLY BINDING DECISION ON PREVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. *AK
