2017 Jaguar F-pace problems
The Jaguar F-Pace (X761) is a compact luxury crossover SUV made by Jaguar Land Rover, a British car manufacturer, under their Jaguar marque. It is the first model to be built by Jaguar in the SUV class. It was formally announced at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, with sales commencing in 2016 following an unveiling at the 2015 International Motor Show Germany in Frankfurt.
The design of the F-Pace is based on the 2013 Jaguar C-X17 concept car. The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace has been named the honorary winner of the 2017 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year Awards at the New York International Auto Show. The F-Pace is built at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull plant along with the Range Rover Velar and employs an additional 1,300 workers.
Launch
An F-Pace production prototype made its public debut on 4 July 2015 by leading out the Team Sky professional cycle racing team during Le Grand Départ in Utrecht, Netherlands, at the start of the 2015 Tour de France. Customer deliveries started in April 2016 in Europe, and in May 2016 in the United States. The car made its official public début at the September 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show, an F-Pace, driven by professional stunt driver Terry Grant, performed a world-record-breaking 360 degree loop-the-loop.

Common 2017 Jaguar F-pace problems
The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace has been plagued with a number of common problems based on complaints from owners, primarily centered around electrical gremlins and fuel system issues. One of the most reported problems is the blank instrument panel, which leaves drivers without vital information about the vehicle's speed, fuel levels, and engine temperature.
Another common problem is the erratic start/stop ignition, which can cause the vehicle to suddenly shut off while driving, particularly during left-hand turns and when the seatbelt and brake pedal pressure sensors send mixed signals to the F-Pace's brain.
Fuel system issues have also been a significant concern for 2017 F-Pace owners. The fuel pump in models with a 3.0-liter engine has been found to be loose due to a bolt being too long, which can cause fuel leaks and potentially lead to fires if the fuel line cracks from the additional stress.
Engine overheating has also been a problem for some F-Pace owners, although Jaguar has not issued a formal recall for this issue.
Lastly, some owners have experienced mysterious battery drains, with their F-Pace's battery dying after sitting for a short period of time.
In summary, the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace has faced a number of common problems, primarily centered around electrical gremlins and fuel system issues. These problems have led to the F-Pace being ranked as one of the least reliable vehicles in 2017 and 2019 by Consumer Reports.

- Summary: I am writing to file a formal complaint against Carvana regarding the purchase of a 2017 Jaguar F-Pace. Despite driving less than 4189 miles, the vehicle requires extensive repairs costing $8,600.00 before taxes, with additional maintenance costs of $1,400.00. Carvana misrepresented the vehicle's condition, failing to disclose multiple engine and coolant leaks, which were discovered after purchase. They also did not inform me that an extended warranty was not available for the vehicle, and neglected to provide a copy of their inspection report details. The remaining vehicle loan is $28,000.00. Upon contacting Carvana about these issues, they stated that the car was outside the return window and refused further assistance. The repairs needed were massive and consistent with pre-existing conditions, indicating that Carvana neglected to perform adequate maintenance or disclose the damage. I am a remote worker and only travel to take my children to and from school daily. Despite this limited use, the vehicle has incurred significant damage, including massive oil and coolant leaks, posing a risk of injury to myself and my children, as well as the potential for explosion due to the extent of the leaks. Carvana's failure to disclose the vehicle inspection report at the time of purchase was a deceptive practice that concealed preexisting mechanical failures. This deceptive behavior placed me along with 4 minor children at risk of injury and a potentially catastrophic auto engine explosion or fire due to the extent of the leaks. Please investigate this known coolant leak issue that extends to oil engine issue it's many other owners are experiencing the same issue. This is why Carvana fails to offer extended warranty on purchase. This is a known issue impacting many other 2017 jaguar fpaces around or at same mileage mark. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-28
- VIN: SADCJ2BV9HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: While driving my vehicle, the low coolant level light came on the dashboard, so I went to AutoZone to purchase a jug of coolant fluid. On my way home, the low coolant level warning remained active, and as soon as I arrived in my driveway, the engine overheating light illuminated. I promptly turned off the vehicle and it remained stationary for a week before I had it towed to the dealership to determine the underlying cause of the coolant leak. A representative from the dealership informed me that the diagnostic fee would be $390 in order to determine the root cause of the coolant leak. Shocked by the high cost, I contacted the service manager who had mentioned the fee to the representative. He called me to let me know that he was aware I had reached out to the “higher-ups” about the fee. The next day, he clearly retaliated by instructing his co-worker a skilled Jaguar mechanic to take their time diagnosing my coolant leak in order to ensure I would pay his intended price. He called with a smug tone, as if to say "I told you so", and informed me that the price tag to fix my problem is $1300. He then asked if I wanted to proceed with the repairs, to which I replied absolutely not. I stated that I would reach out to the GM. If it took a skilled Jaguar mechanic two hours to determine that my coolant leak was caused by a thermostat housing, why should I feel confident that he can complete the repairs? I have seen a lot of posts on Jaguar forums about coolant leaks that should have been addressed as part of recalls. All 2017 Jaguars seem to have this issue. A quick internet search confirmed that this problem is widely recognized, leading Jaguar to change the defective parts and release a service bulletin addressing it. Despite being well aware of the problem, Jaguar is unwilling to fix it but want customers to pays for their faulty design.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-19
- VIN: SADCL2BV1HA
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: While driving in the rain the headlights stopped working. An error popped up on the dashboard indicating a dipped beam fault. When I stopped there was condensation or water inside the headlight lenses on both sides and the lights would not turn back on in the on or auto position. The bright light indicator showed high and low beams but none of the lights would work except for the fog lights. We are having to replace both head light assemblies and bulbs but have not had the repairs completed yet.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-12-10
- VIN: SADCL2BN3HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Since 2019, I have reported that every fall (I have the service orders), when the weather changes and I turn on the heat, the check engine goes on and does not turn off. When I went to have this same issue serviced in January of this year, the service department found that the Timing Chain failure was causing the problem. Because my car was now out of warranty, Jaguar would not pay for it. However, upon further investigation, I discovered that this issue had resulted in complete recalls of my vehicle in other countries but not the US. So, I insisted that the service department put in a claim against Jaguar corporate. Jaguar corporate agreed to pay 40% of the repair cost, agreeing that there is a problem with the engine's design. This repair is costly and has nothing to do with how I maintain my car but a poor diesel engine design. "The timing chain breaks while driving, the car will immediately grind to a halt. It's also likely that some valves will be bent as they contact the pistons (the timing chain prevents this from happening by keeping everything moving in time). Significant valve/piston damage will occur.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-15
- VIN: SADCJ2BN6HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Timing chain stretched which caused engine to seize and fail at 80,000 miles. Engines replaced along with new timing, chains and belts. Two months later, the turbo seized and failed. Turbo had to be replaced. This is a known problem with jaguar for this year and model car. There are two more with the exact same problem at my mechanics right now.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-23
- VIN: SADCJ2BV1HA
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Windshield. The Jaguar 2017 F Pace windshield is very fragile. While driving down [XXX] on multiple occasions, a pebble has hit my window and caused a huge crack. On the most recent occurrence the pebble was still in my window shield after returning home. I was traveling around 70 to 75 mph when the pebble hit my windshield. I am now on my 5th window shield since purchasing the vehicle in Dec 2019. When purchased, the vehicle had 31K miles and due to the shut down (2020)and work from home, the vehicles was barely driven. Jaguar Land Rover DFW 972.295.9783 has records of all my service calls regarding windshield replacement. The cracks have been both on the driver and passenger side. These windshields on average are $350 and up. Yes the problem has been confirmed by dealer.(Jaguar Land Rover DFW Hwy 114 Dallas TX). No Yes by the dealer (Jaguar Land Rover DFW Hwy 114 Dallas TX.) No No there were not warning lights before hand. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ENGINE,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

- VIN: SADCS2BV3HA
- Components: ENGINE,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: This car had about 27, 950 miles on it! While driving the low coolant light came on. Stopped at once and checked the coolant level. I was only slightly low. Added more coolant and light went out, this was about one week ago, 3/3/2024. The next day after two miles, low coolant light. Again added more coolant. The next day after a few miles, the car smelled of oil or something unusual, a burning smell, as my wife was driving it, no warning lights this time, this happened while stopped at a stop light. Suddenly the entire front of the car was covered with smoke! My wife said she thought the car was on fire. She pulled into a parking lot and stopped the car. The smoke subsided and she called me. The car did not appear to be overheated and the temperature gauge was normal. Adding more coolant temporally solved the issue. I have taken the car into the Jaguar dealer and they immediately knew what the problem was, seems that ALL 2017 JAGUARS have this problem. An internet search verified the problem is so well know that Jaguar changed the defective parts and issued a service bulletin addressing this problem, BUT even though our car is well within the warranty mileage, the Jaguar dealers said that I would have to pay in excess of $3600 to get our car repaired! This is outrages! the car is not safe to drive and Jaguar is well aware of the problem, yet they refuse to correct it unless the customer pays for Jaguar's faulty design!!
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-04
- VIN: SADCK2BN0HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: On [XXX] I stopped at a local gas station to refuel. Immediately after leaving the gas station I heard a loud noise and the car went into limp mode. All the warning light were illuminated and lots of white smoke poured out of tailpipes. The diagnosis was that the turbo had filled with oil destroying both the turbo and motor. Total repair costs were close to $17,000 for remanufactured turbo and motor. This seems to be the exact same issue others have noted. There are class action law suits in the UK, Australia and the US for dpf failure leading to engine and turbo failure. Car has 95,000 miles on it. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 135,000.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-13
- VIN: SADCJ2BN3HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The impeller fan on the turbo was improperly balanced and caused shrapnel to travel downstream through the turbo, engine, diesel particulate filter and the exhaust system. When this happened the vehicle immediately shut down and was unable to drive. Had this happened on a highway or busy road, an accident would have been called. When the vehicle was towed to the dealership, the technician informed us that there was another model in their shop with the exact issue being repaired. The vehicle had been properly maintained with the manufacturer's service at required intervals. There was no indication that there were any issues related to this incident before it occurred. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-05
- VIN: SADCK2BV6HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: 2017 Jaguar fpace with 52k miles starting leaking coolant and is in the dealership for an expensive repair and suggested below parts needs replacement. Repair alone costs $4000 as it is of factory warranty. 1) waterpump 2) coolant pipes and hoses 3) belts Also opened a case with Jaguar but no response yet. Seen lot of Jaguar forums with coolant leaks which should have been taken care as part of recalls. Manufacturer should address the quality issues on coolant leaks. Being branded alone doesn’t suffice , they should maintain the reliability.
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-25
- VIN: SADCJ2BV4HA
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: Catastrophic "Critical" coolant system failure. Resulting in vehicle completely disabled on the roadside. Police and Fire Dept. responded. I have been communicating with Jaguar North Scottsdale and Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC for resolution. The Coolant System defective parts were identified in 2017, newly designed "y" pipe and outlet pipes, single extruded pipes, have been available since 2018. (See Attached Technical Bulletin). Jaguar has not offered these repairs under warranty or recall to their vehicle owners, rather, shifting the blame on the consumer. JLR has had knowledge and remedy to their disposal and have done nothing to rectify the poorly designed Coolant System, which under many circumstances has also created catastrophic engine failure, warped heads and engine block. The Service Manager at Jaguar North Scottsdale admitted that the, "coolant system was poorly designed at best".Jaguar Forums on the internet are filled with numerous complaints about this issue; this could obviously be rectified through a recall, as evidenced by the fact that JLR Service Departments have available for installation, the redesigned parts. There were no gauges or impending warning messages prior to the "critical alert" message which displayed simultaneously with steam pouring from underneath the hood and exiting the exhaust system.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-22
- VIN: SADCJ2BV6HA
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The contact owns a 2017 Jaguar F-Pace. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal there was a squeaking sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the rear brake pads failed and needed to be replaced. The rear brake pads were replaced; however, approximately a month later, the squeaking noise returned. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where the brake pads were cleaned but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,344. The consumer stated the manufacture was made aware of the problem. The dealer was unable to assist with the vehicle because there were no recalls listed.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-18
- VIN: SADCJ2BV1HA
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Gear selector sticks at start-up and doesn't raise up to engage the car out of park. Have turn off the vehicle and re-start for the gear selector to raise. Trunk hatch will sometimes raise only part-way. Interior light panels for trunk button do not illuminate.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-23
- VIN: SADCJ2BN0HA
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I have done lots of research and have noticed that there is a lot of issues that the F-Pace has been experiencing with the turbocharger. At some point Jaguar needs to take responsibility and call for a recall. Its a shame that a vehicle that represents prestige has been found to not be a reliable vehicle and to top it all off the parts are over priced. $2500 cost is a lot of money to spend for a vehicle that hasn't reached a 100,000 miles.
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-24
- VIN: SADCJ2BN2HA
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: JUST PULLED ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND WAS EXCELLING, (55 MPH) HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE "POP" AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO A "RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE" MODE. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY TO SEE IF I HAD POPPED A TIRE; HOWEVER WHITE SMOKE WAS PLUMMING FROM THE EXHAUST. I COULDN'T DRIVE MY CAR AT ALL. I THEN CONTACTED ROADSIDE AND THEY PICKED THE CAR UP. THEN CALLED JAGUAR OF IN ATLANTA AND DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TURBO HAD PROBABLY GONE OUT. JAGUAR SERVICE CONFIRMED THE TURBO HAD INDEED GONE OUT, AS WELL AIR COOLANT FAN AND POSSIBLY FUEL INJECTOR SENSOR. SO FAR AT $5K. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH IT'S BEEN FOUND THAT A PLETHORA OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE, AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE (56K MILES), ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. WHEN IS A RECALL GOING TO BE ISSUED AND ALL OF US GET OUR MONEY BACK FOR THIS NEGLIGENCE.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-06
- VIN: SADCK2BN5HA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I was driving on the highway at about 65 MPH and the car just locked up and stopped working. Everything on the dashboard began flashing. Luckily I had enough momentum to pull over to the side of the road. I took it to Tacoma Jaguar who refused to even diagnose it for over two weeks. When they finally diagnosed it they informed my husband and myself that the timing belt snapped and I needed an entirely new engine which would cost $32,000!!! The car is BARELY 5 years old and has less than 60,000 miles on it.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-15
- VIN: SADCK2BN2HA

- Summary: The contact owns a 2017 Jaguar F-Pace. The contact stated that extra travel time was needed for the vehicle to come to a complete stop with an abnormal, screeching sound coming from the vehicle without warning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and had the braking system repaired; however, the failure persisted. In addition to the brake failure, the contact stated that the vehicle began to shut off while driving at various speeds as an unknown warning light appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and remained at the dealer without being diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

After many Jaguar vehicle experiences and adventures over the years, finally a model that works! It's been 5 years and there hasn't been a single problem. What's more, it still looks as new. The car drives superbly, is very comfortable and eye-catching in its guards red. It also makes a lovely growl which is delightful.
-
This car has a sporty feel, but there are some issues with the electronics. The rear view camera occasionally malfunctions and the auto sunroof requires manual assistance. Additionally, there are some areas where the body panels do not align well.

I've had my Jaguar F-Pace 35T Prestige for six months now and I still absolutely love this car! The performance, sound of the exhaust and overall curb appeal are all outstanding. I even took it on a trip and in econo mode, I got better mileage than advertised. I put it away for the Winter and I cannot wait for Spring to enjoy this great ride!
-
This is such a fun car to drive and own! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it and that feeling hasn't changed. I think it's a really nice looking car and it might just be my second to last, if not my last car. I'm of a certain age 😊 and I only really get to drive it a few times a month. It's an awesome vehicle, once you get over the 'making sure you park alone so no one dings your car' syndrome 😂
-
The reviews say it all - this car is truly exceptional! It's the best in its class, offering unbeatable value for money and top-notch safety features. The only downside is the wait time to get your hands on one, but it's definitely worth it. I hope the manufacturer can keep up with the high demand!

I purchased my 2017 F-Pace 20D brand new, but unfortunately, it has been plagued with numerous issues. Despite having taken it to the shop over 24 times for problems such as trim falling off, rear hatch not closing, electrical issues, and multiple engine issues, the car has continued to malfunction. Currently, it has been in the shop for over a month due to a cracked fuel rail, which caused diesel fuel to be sprayed all over the engine, resulting in an unpleasant smell that the shop is struggling to remove. Additionally, the car has gone into 'restricted performance' mode, which limits its top speed to 20 MPH, making it very dangerous to drive. Despite my attempts to initiate a 'buyback', Jaguar has informed me that it does not qualify because it has not been in the shop for the same reason more than twice. However, I have now sought legal assistance to resolve this matter.

I have experienced multiple issues with this car despite having driven it for less than 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, I have had to take it to the shop several times and have been unable to fully enjoy the vehicle. Due to these recurring problems, I am hesitant to take it on long road trips. However, I am fortunate to have a warranty that covers all my service needs at the Jaguar dealership. I would advise against purchasing this car.

Road dirt accumulates both outside and inside the vehicle, including the front door panels. Unfortunately, I have experienced this on a daily basis and find it quite frustrating. Despite my attempts to address this issue with both my local Jaguar dealer and Jaguar USA, I have not received a satisfactory response. I understand that they may have limitations, but I would appreciate a more empathetic and personal approach. I have been a loyal customer and I hope that Jaguar can address this issue and continue to provide excellent service. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The car's price is not justified by its look, 'sex appeal', rod handling, or any other feature. The car has been nothing but a disappointment, with problems, poor craftsmanship, and malfunctions. In the first week, the car had to be taken back to the body shop to correct the non-inertial engine hood closing, which was off by about 1/2 inch on one side and 1/8-1/4 on the other. The electronics are inconsistent and require the engine to be restarted to reset. The interior has poorly designed and particularly cheap finishes, with razor-sharp edges in the door handle assembly. The window sills scratch just by looking at them. The entire sunroof and screen mechanism is defective, jamming the roof on an angle and breaking the track on both sides. The driver's seat jolts back about an 1/8 of an inch with every acceleration, and the same seat is hard as a rock and good for maybe a 10-minute drive before the sciatica sets in. The bottom door trim is again of cheap quality and an invitation to collecting road grime and water. All in all, the car looks good and actually drives pretty well, although I don't recommend the 22-inch rims for everyday driving. Personally, I am disappointed and want to rid myself of it. It may not be easy to sell, as even the dealers don't want them back, with hundreds in inventory not selling now that the word is out.

I bought this car in May 2017. Unfortunately, I've had some issues with the engine shutting down suddenly when I try to turn right after stopping at a stop sign. The car becomes completely unresponsive, except for the D (Drive Mode) light which remains on. I can't even switch to P (parking) mode or use the paddle. I've experienced this problem five times since I bought the car. After the fourth time, I took it to the dealer to get it fixed. They assured me that it was safe to drive, but unfortunately, the issue occurred again after a week. I had to take it back to the dealer, and it's still there. It's very concerning when the car suddenly stops on the road, and the car behind you almost hits you. I hope this issue can be resolved soon. I spoke to the general manager at the dealer this morning, and they informed me that I can't return the car. I wish that was an option. I'm very disappointed with this car.
