2018 Acura Tlx problems
The Acura TLX is a four-door entry-level luxury sedan sold by Acura, a luxury division of Honda, since 2014. It is the successor to both the TL and TSX models. As of 2021, the discontinuation of the RLX leaves the TLX as the flagship sedan in Acura's lineup.
Design history
The Acura TLX was first shown as the "TLX Prototype", a sedan designed in Acura's Los Angeles Design Studio, as a replacement of the TL and TSX sedans. The production version was unveiled in April at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Sales began in August, the TLX entered production during July at Marysville, Ohio, United States.
First generation (UB1/UB2/UB3/UB4; 2015)
Two powertrain options are available. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with direct injection was offered with front-wheel drive only, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel steering (P-AWS). This model's chassis code is UB1. The Honda designed dual clutch transmission is the first to use a torque converter, which absorbs transmission gear shift shock, thus reducing NVH. The engine is rated at 206 hp (154 kW; 209 PS) with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg‑US (9.8 L/100 km; 29 mpg‑imp)/35 mpg‑US (6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg‑imp)/28 mpg‑US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) compared to 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/26 mpg‑US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) from the previous TSX. Honda estimates that the six-cylinder model is 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h).
A 3.5-liter direct injected SOHC VTEC V-6 with cylinder deactivation (VCM) is mated to Honda's first time use of a 9-speed automatic transmission (sourced from ZF), available with either P-AWS or all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). The SH-AWD system uses hydraulic clutches instead of the electromagnetic clutch packs found on the previous TL which significantly cuts weight, size and cost. The engine is rated at 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and front-wheel drive models deliver 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/34 mpg‑US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) while all-wheel drive models are rated at 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp). Model codes are UB2 for the front-wheel drive and UB3 for the SH-AWD, which comes standard with a "Technology Package". TLX models configured with the V6 engine lose nearly 150 lb (68 kg) compared to the FWD TL, and over 225 lb (102 kg) compared to the SH-AWD TL.
Overall length compared to the previous TL was reduced by 3.8 inches (97 mm) while the wheelbase maintains the same length. As with the ninth-generation Accord, the TLX loses the front double wishbone suspension of the TSX and TL in favor of a MacPherson strut arrangement, and loses the TL's all-aluminum front subframe in favor of a lower cost friction stir welded aluminum and steel piece.
To significantly cut down on interior noise, triple door seals are used as well as additional sound insulation.

- Summary: My name is [XXX] On [XXX] while driving to lunch from work. I heard a faint knocking noise from my car. Came back to work and schedule an appointment with my mechanic dealer in Atlanta and there i notice a recall regarding the rod bearing. On the way back to where I was staying in Savannah Ga, the noise gotten a little louder when i pulled up in the driveway. I didn’t want to drive it so i call a local Acura dealership in Savannah. The tow truck that came to pick up the car ask if the car was drive-able to load on truck. When i crank it…he said that the rod. From the car was towed to Southern Motors Acura in Savannah. My dealership mechanic is Nalley Acura in Atlanta Ga. Since Nov 30th, i been in a rental out of pocket since Feb 25, 2024. Each time i speak with American Honda they tell me the parts are not available as of yet. This has been an expensive and frustrating process dealing with them and nothing seems to be heading in the positive direction. At this point i want a new engine. Reason being, the car has been sitting idle for months and the existing parts that’s not being in operation may no longer be of good use with any new parts. I work in Manufacturing as a manufacturing engineer. This happens in Aerospace all the time. Trying to install new part along with existing parts that haven’t been in use, may have corrosion, will eventually go bad due to shelf life and seasonal weather changes. Please assist me in this matter. My number is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

You've got yourself an all-around great car!
-
I just got my 3rd Acura in a row and I must say, I'm a believer! The TLX is an unbeatable value in the midsize luxury market. It's feature-filled, comfortable, sporty, and a real head-turner. I really appreciate all the standard safety features, and the TECH package is easy to use and understand, not to mention the amazing sound system. It's hard to believe that I have so much car and still get over 30mpg. If you're looking for a car, you should definitely check it out. UPDATE: I've had my TLX for over a year now and I can't say anything negative about it. I smile every day while driving it. It's stylish, quiet, fuel-efficient, and has great safety tech too!

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my thoughts on the 2018 TLX. While the new grille looks great, I noticed that some of the safety features and display on the audio system haven't been updated since the 2015 model. Additionally, it seems that the ability to choose different driving modes has been removed. Just thought I'd share my observations with you!

This car is poorly made with a cheap radio and a very uncomfortable hard ride. I am disappointed with the overall quality.

The car did not meet my expectations and I found it uncomfortable to get in and out of. I have previously owned Accura TL's and found them to be superior. The ride was quite hard and I experienced discomfort while driving over bumps. I decided to trade it in after owning it for 4 months. Additionally, I found the heat to be too intense and the radio to be subpar for an upscale car. I would recommend exploring other car options before making a purchase.

The car has a beautiful design both inside and out. I own the Elite version with a 2.4L FWD. Although the all-wheel steering can be a bit annoying, as you have to drive out of a parking spot more than usual before turning, it is still a great feature. The car wobbles and shakes at speeds of 50km/h and above, but I have tried replacing the tires, rims, and shocks with performance coilovers, and lowering the car, which has helped. I am planning to replace the rubber control arm bushings with polyurethane to see if that helps. I have been modifying the car at my own cost since I bought it brand new. Although I have had some issues with the car, I still appreciate the great interior, especially the tan leather seats. The heated seats work well, although they are a bit slow to warm up, and the seat is a bit harder than I would have liked. The A/C and heat work excellently. The car has many features that would cost thousands extra on a BMW/Audi. Although the ELS sound system is over-rated and lacks bass, it is still a decent system. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the car, but I appreciate its features and design.

The 2018 TLX SH-AWD A-Spec with Tech Pack is a car with impressive performance and great technology. However, it is important to note that the quality of the car could be improved. The paint is quite fragile and chips and scratches easily. The painted brake calipers are a nice touch, but unfortunately, the paint chips off easily from the beautiful mags. Additionally, the 3.5L engine makes valve noise, which is not present in my 2005 MDX. The bumper cover is made of soft plastic, which can be easily damaged by small hazards on the road. It is unfortunate that these issues have arisen after only 26 months and 18,000 miles. I reached out to Acura CS, but unfortunately, did not receive a response. If you are interested in the TLX, it may be best to consider leasing rather than buying.
