2020 Infiniti Q60 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti Q60 is a 2-door sport luxury coupe manufactured by Japanese automaker Infiniti. It is the successor to the Infiniti G coupe and convertible. The Q60 nameplate was first used as a rebranding of Infiniti G coupes. A new version was introduced in early 2016, as a 2017 model.

First generation (2013; V36)

The first-generation Infiniti Q60 was based on the fourth generation (V36) G Coupe. This came about when Infiniti former president Johan de Nysschen cited the need for "a new identity and direction to promote consumer familiarity with our model range as we expand the portfolio." Beginning in 2014, all passenger cars would be "Q" followed by a two-digit number. Those numbers would correspond to the vehicle’s position in the Infiniti hierarchy.

Second generation (2016; V37)

The second-generation Infiniti Q60 was unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show as a concept. A year later, Infiniti unveiled the production version at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, followed by the European version debuting at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The vehicles went on sale in the end of 2016 as models for 2017. Early models included 2.0t, 3.0t (304/405PS).

American models went on sale as model year vehicles for 2017. Early models included 2.0t, 2.0t AWD, 3.0t (304PS), 3.0t AWD (304PS) in August 2016; followed by Red Sport 400 and Red Sport 400 AWD later in September 2016. 3.0t Sport and 3.0t Sport AWD went on sale in December 2016. Europe models were set to go on sale in October 2016 as a model year for 2017. Early models included 2.0t, followed by 3.0t (405PS).

The 2017 Q60 received many major upgrades like a lower and wider body, introduction of second generation Direct Adaptive Steering, Drive Mode Selector with custom settings profile, hydraulic electronic rack and pinion power steering system standard (2.0t), introduction of Dynamic Digital Suspension, retuned seven speed automatic transmission, Active Grille Shutter in V6 engine models, and for the first time, all new turbocharged engines. The Q60 Convertible was discontinued for the second generation.

Following the redesign, the new Q60 is able to have a drag coefficient of just 0.28, and zero front and rear lift. This allows the vehicle to remain stable at high speeds and in crosswind conditions. This is due to the all-new Active Grille Shutters, which help balance the engine's cooling requirements while also enhancing aerodynamics. The grille shutters remains closed under normal use, and open up when greater performance is required.

The Q60 is available in several trims: Pure, Luxe, Sport and Red Sport 400.

The only engine choice for the Pure and Luxe trims is the Mercedes-Benz sourced 2.0L turbocharged engine(Not true at least since 2019 as current Pure and Luxe Q60 comes with a 3.0L Turbo Charged engine.), while the Sport and Red Sport receive the all new 3.0L turbocharged Nissan VR engine. The engine is the same for both the Sport and Red Sport trims, however, the Red Sport model is tuned to make 400 hp (298 kW). The Sport trim's output is 300hp and. All engines are mated to a 7-speed automatic, and the 3.0t is also equipped with dual automatic transmission coolers. The 6-speed manual was dropped for the second generation.

Q60 Red Sport 400 is based on Q60 3.0t (304PS) coupe. Features include 14" rotors on the front and 13.8" rotors on the rear, opposed 2 and 4 piston red calipers, sport tuned Digital Dynamic Suspension, semi aniline leather appointed sport seats, aluminium accented pedals and paddle shifters, unique dual brushed satin finish Red Sport 400 exhaust tips, exclusive 20 inch sport aluminium-alloy wheels (staggered for RWD models) and chrome finished red 'S' exterior sport badging on the trunk and front fenders.

The Q60 also offers slew of new technologies and safety features. For 2018 model year, the ProAssist Package consisted of: Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Rain Sensing Wipers and Backup Collision Intervention® with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The ProActive Package adds: Intelligent Cruise Control with Full Speed Range, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention with Active Lane Control, Blind Spot Intervention, Distance Control Assist, Advanced Climate Control System with Plasmacluster and Grape Polyphenol filter, auto leveling Adaptive Front Lighting System with High Beam Assist, front seat pre-crash seatbelts and Direct Adaptive Steering.

Common 2020 Infiniti Q60 problems

The Infiniti Q60 2020 is a popular luxury sports coupe known for its sleek design and versatility. While it is generally reliable, there are some common problems that owners have reported.

One of the most common issues is with the serpentine belt, which can make a lot of noise and even lead to more serious problems if it pops

. This issue seems to be common in the Infiniti Q60, and it is recommended to change the belt immediately after purchasing the car or confirming that the previous owner had changed it.

Another common problem is with the infotainment system, which can go completely black and not respond

. While there are methods to restart the system, it may require a visit to an Infiniti dealership to get it fixed, which can cost anywhere from $400 to $600.

The turbos in the 3.0t engines have also been reported to have issues, with some owners reporting blown turbos even when driving the car normally

. This can be an expensive repair, with used turbos costing around $400 and new ones costing up to $3,000.

There have also been reports of recalls for the 2020 Infiniti Q60, including a recall for rear seat belt assemblies with a dual-mode locking mechanism and a recall for a software error that may deactivate the audio/video control unit screen, preventing the rear-view image from displaying.

While the Infiniti Q60 2020 is generally reliable, it is important to be aware of these common problems and consider them when purchasing a used model. Regular maintenance and checking the car's history can also help ensure that it remains reliable over time.

Negative 2020 Infiniti Q60 car reviews

  1. Bobby Watsica 2025-04-03

I've owned 4 Infiniti coupes, starting with the g35, and I have liked all of them. However, after the g35, the quality of the interior has always been disappointing. My current 2017 q60 3.0t has had issues with the infotainment system since I first drove it off the lot. I've had it in to the dealership 2 times over the past 2 years, but unfortunately, they haven't been able to figure it out and have blamed my iPhone. I've tried 5 different cables and even without the iPhone attached, the system still reboots. Despite these issues, I still appreciate Infiniti's quality, but I'm not sure if it's worth the price. I will consider certified used Infiniti's in the future. The problems with the infotainment system are that it randomly reboots, sometimes after just a few minutes but mostly after an hour+ of driving.

  2. Ellsworth Stark 2025-02-23

EXTERIOR: The exterior is truly stunning, receiving compliments from passersby and drivers alike. INTERIOR: It is surprising that a luxury brand could miss the mark by not offering apple carplay or android auto for four years. However, it is reassuring to know that it will be available in the 2021 models. The dual monitors are an interesting feature, and it would be intriguing to see data on how people use them. While the GPS provided by the manufacturer may not be popular, WAZE integration would be a welcome addition. TRANSMISSION: The car's speed can feel either exhilarating or unpredictable, but it is still a top performer in its class. BACKUP CAMERA: The backup camera is functional, even without the expensive assist package. PERFORMANCE: The car's low profile and excellent ride control make it a joy to drive, with the ability to switch lanes quickly and confidently. SPORTS CAR FEEL: While it may not have the full sports car experience, the car's sleek design is sure to turn heads. The technology could be improved, but overall it is a solid choice for those seeking a luxury vehicle. The drive modes do not provide a significant enough difference to justify the cost.

I am so happy to be writing this review and sharing my experience with you. I was thrilled to read RohanB's review, which confirmed what happened to me (you can read his review here too!). Like RohanB, I was renting a car and had my son with me. Unfortunately, I was less fortunate than RohanB and ended up hitting the guard rail and spinning around. Luckily, we didn't hit any other vehicles. It was raining heavily, and I remember sliding into the middle lane before the car suddenly went hard right, and it felt like hydroplaning. I have been driving for almost 30 years, and I am not a speeder. I haven't had a speeding ticket since my teenage years. Thank God the other safety features in the car were awesome, and we both got out okay. My son had a few bruises, but we are alive and well. I do have the headache of dealing with an out-of-state wreck, but I'll take that over other options any day! I want to share a PSA with you all: stay away from adaptive steering technology. Perhaps it's 99% okay, but it's the 1% that matters when it's life or death. I had no idea I was renting a car with that technology. Hertz had a row of cars to pick from, and since I was with my son, we picked the cool-looking car! It sure was cool-looking. Lesson learned: do a quick review of car safety issues before picking a car to rent.

I'm looking forward to the day when I can trade in my current vehicle. While it has some good features, there are some areas where Infiniti could improve in order to compete in the near-luxury field. I've noticed a few issues that I didn't experience with my previous BMWs, such as poor trunk design that allows water to get inside and a seatbelt that cuts into my neck. Despite these issues, I'm hopeful that Infiniti will continue to improve and provide better customer satisfaction. #1 Cochran Infiniti in Wexford, PA could also improve their service by not wet washing cars post-service and expecting customers to dry them. Overall, I'm looking forward to exploring other options in the future.

On the evening of April 17th, 2022, I experienced an issue with my vehicle. My car started making a fluttering noise, similar to the sound of someone shuffling a deck of cards, and the RPMs would drop to 3 during acceleration, causing me to lose power. Despite there being no warning lights, notifications, indicators, odors, or smoke emitting from my car, I parked it at home, unsure of what the issue was or where the noise was coming from. The next morning, I called Infiniti in Timonium to schedule an appointment, and after doing so, I went out to check my car. Unfortunately, the noise was still present, and my check engine light came on after a few seconds of running. To get a pre-diagnosis and additional information about the condition of my car, I took it to Autozone on Liberty Road to have the codes pulled. The codes that came back were P0014 and P0024, both camshaft codes. However, there were still no other symptoms of odor or smoke, just the fluttering noise and the check engine light. On my way back home, my car stalled at Liberty Road and Rolling Road and wouldn't turn back on. I contacted AAA and had it towed to Infiniti the same day. Sean Bonnie was assigned as my service advisor, and my car was at Infiniti in Timonium for almost a month when Sean reached out to notify me of the presence of sludge and metal shavings in my oil pan, and that my engine had seized. He was adamant that it was due to a lack of maintenance. I was using my third-party warranty, and they requested that I send proof of maintenance. I submitted my maintenance invoices to Sean, and he forwarded them to my Warranty Company. I provided invoices for my last 3 oil changes because I wasn't due for a fourth for another 6-700 miles. I bought my car at 35,796 miles, and I'm currently at 70,042 (42 miles out of the power train warranty). My warranty company requested a tear down to determine the cause of my engine seizing, so they could decide if my extended warranty covers it. Sean informed me that Infiniti refused the tear down, as they didn't want to tie up one of their bays for that long. If my warranty doesn't cover it, I would have to pay for the tear down. I agreed to accept liability for the tear down, as I was confident that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect or malfunction, since I followed the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. However, Infiniti still refused. During my time working with Infiniti, I requested photos of the contents of my oil pan, but Sean advised that no pictures were taken. After expressing my concerns to consumer affairs and not receiving any assistance, I had my car towed to a mechanic to have it torn down. When I arrived, Infiniti presented me with a $3,000 invoice for diagnostics that they didn't provide any documentation for. Nationwide allowed me to take my car without paying for the diagnostic fee, as we agreed that the problem couldn't have been properly diagnosed without removing and inspecting the engine. I followed Infiniti's 10k maintenance schedule, but my car still failed, and they refuse to assist. As of 2023, I am still fighting with everyone about this engine issue.

Hey there! I totally get it, there are so many great options out there in this price range. But let me tell you, I've owned most of them and the Red Sport is definitely a winner. It's a stunning car, both inside and out, and it's an absolute blast to drive. Plus, it's fast enough to give you a thrill without being too much to handle. One of the things I love about it is how unique it is - there aren't many on the road here in Chicagoland, so it really turns heads. And if you're looking for a car that can handle bad weather, this is definitely it. The AWD is a game-changer, and it handles like a dream even in poor conditions. I've even passed Jeeps in the snow in this car! Of course, there are a few minor things to keep in mind. The controls can be a bit repetitive, and the lack of a sensor on the backup camera can be a bit of a pain. And while the car is absolutely gorgeous, I do wish they had added a few more external design options to make it stand out as a Red Sport. But overall, I'm absolutely in love with this car and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, stylish ride.

  2. Cedrick Flatley 2025-04-18

This is my second Infiniti. I came back because I absolutely love the quality of their dealerships and the way they treat their customers. I've been driving my Q60 Redsport for over a year now, and it's still incredibly fun! The sport plus mode is amazing, and I love using it on long country roads. Plus, living in Chicagoland, I was worried about driving in the snow, but this car handles it like a champ with its AWD. I feel completely safe and secure. I can't say enough good things about this car. It's comfortable even on long drives, fun to drive, and has great fuel economy. The tech in the center console is only average, but that's my only negative. I haven't had a single issue with this vehicle, and it's a first gen 2017. I would definitely buy this car again and again! Just FYI, I do not have the adaptive steering in this car, but it's still very responsive. The brakes on this car saved my life once, and it looks amazing! People come up to me when I'm gassing up and ask me about the car. How cool is that?

  3. Jettie Marvin 2025-04-18

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the Red Sport AWD Q60. I test drove both the 300 hp and 400 hp versions, and ultimately decided to go with the latter. The 300 hp VR engine felt similar to the 3.7 VQ engine in terms of overall power, but with more low end torque. However, the naturally aspirated VQ engine still had more power at higher RPMs. The Red Sport version, on the other hand, is a completely different animal. It's much quicker off the line and perfect for quickly merging with oncoming traffic on highway ramps in Chicagoland. While there is a slight turbo lag right off the line and the transmission can be slightly sluggish when shifting in lower gears, keeping the car in automatic and in Sport + mode for the quickest shifting helps alleviate this issue. When it comes to choosing options for the Q60, I highly recommend blind spot monitors and driver assistance features. They've saved me many times from changing lanes into a car that was riding behind me in my blind spot. The Q60's rear quarter blind spots can be quite large, so the around view monitor is also a great feature to have. Lastly, if you enjoy performance-oriented driving, I'd suggest skipping the Direct Adaptive Steering. While version 2.0 is better, it still needs further refinement. The standard electric steering is quite good and much better than the older VQ's hydraulic rack. I hope this helps you make an informed decision! What a shame, as the standard rack is excellent. The only trade-off is that you do lose some additional features that are packaged with DAS (adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, etc.). However, Infiniti still gives you two settings for the electric steering; standard and sport, which is great and fine for most people. Thirdly, have you considered changing out those horrible run-flat OEM tires? The handling, ride quality, steering, and braking all improve significantly with a tire change. A tire change completely transforms this car. You have no idea how well this car can perform with better tires. The Run Flats on the Red Sport can kick the back end out of the car when you take a sharp turn and it will hydroplane in heavy rain. I wouldn't even attempt to use these in the snow. Cornering also feels unstable with stock tires and the steering is way too heavy. Did I mention that the ride is brutal with the Run Flats, even in the Oh, I just wanted to add that the sport seats in the Q60 are incredibly comfortable compared to my older Q50s and even the current Q50s. I drove 750 miles in one day and didn't experience any back problems at all!

  4. Jeremie Koch 2025-04-08

Great looking and performing automobile. I'm glad I got the AWD 3.0 Coupe model. It's very quick and responsive. The quality construction makes it handle very nicely and it's a real pleasure to drive. The gas mileage is OK around town and good on trips. As a satisfied customer, I must also give credit to the dealership. Faulkner Infiniti of Willow Grove, PA has a great team of folks who handled the sale and delivery. They are both professional and classy. So far, I'm very happy with my purchase.

  5. Kamryn Bins 2025-03-14

I've been the proud owner of the Q60S Red Sport 400 for a month now and I must say, it's been an absolute joy. Having owned BMWs (740i, 540i & M5) & Audis (S4 Cabrio and S5 Coupe) in the past, I can confidently say that the exterior appearance of this car is truly breathtaking. I often find myself walking backwards away from the car just so I can look at it more. The interior design is also very well done and the front seats are simply magic. They provide outstanding comfort and lateral stability. The engine performance is nothing short of a giggle machine with a start button. Just mash the throttle and laugh! The 400bhp & 350ft/lb of torque are available from 2500 RPMs all the way to redline. My favorite move is when I'm on the open freeway & impatiently slogging along behind some snow bird doing 55 in a 65 zone. I lightly tug the downshift paddle twice to take me to 5th gear and bury the boot. Good lord, the acceleration is instant and fantastic! Within a few seconds, I'm doing 100MPH and rushing quickly towards 120MPH if I'm not careful. I've had the car up to 125MPH so far and the stability & smoothness inspires a ton of confidence. The car just seems to sit down on its haunches the faster you go. To top it off, the Bose sound system is hands-down the best sounding system I've heard in any car. I know, I know. No highs, no lows, it's gotta be a Bose. That may have been true five years ago, but this system, in this particular car is brilliant. So perfectly clean, with large bass response (no annoying rattle) and crisp highs that just sing. Maybe the Mark Levinson system in the Lexus LS600H is better, but then you're paying $120k for a sedan, so... Lastly, the handling is so good to the point where it's annoying. I cannot seem to get the car to oversteer or understeer. The car handles corners with complete neutrality, and if I turn off the dynamic anti-skid nannies, I could probably get the car to slide some. However, I am reticent to do that until I have a better feel for the 16lb/ft of turbo boost coming from the twin chargers. The braking is strong and linear, and I adapted to the brakes the first day, which is a testament to how well -- and predictably -- they stop. The car comes with so much safety technology that any normal person is safer in this car than in Fort Knox. Even though I lean towards the imbecilic, I'm sure I can personally figure out a way to get into a wreck. Now, for the less than stellar aspects. First, the steering. The DAS steering is as vague as everyone says it is. It's really designed and set up for long trips where comfort and low-fatigue are more important than feeling connected to the car. I wish there was a way to turn it off. The shift response is inconsistent. Downshifts under light acceleration come when they feel like it, and downshifts under hard acceleration come fairly quickly. However, if you've ever driven a Porsche with the PDK dual clutch, the Q60 Red Sport ain't even in the same universe. Again, you're paying less than half the price, so... Still, for $62k, you'd think a less awesome dual clutch auto-trans would be mated to this terrific engine. As lovely as the interior is, there are a few nits. There are some very specific areas where the materials chosen are just plain cheap. The lower part of the interior door assembly, for example, is made of cheap plastic. The inside of the glove box, center console storage, and cigarette lighter opening are covered in the cheapest felt-like substance known to man. It's like those 1970s glow-in-the-dark posters with the black fuzzy stuff. Yeah, that stuff (they still make that?).The rocker switch for the Infiniti Drive Mode and the circular mouse control are made of hollow chromed plastic, which doesn't feel very sturdy when you're pulling, pushing or twisting them. It would be great if real aluminum was used for these controls. Although the car has seat heat and steering wheel heat, it lacks seat ventilation/cooling, which is a big deal for me as I live in Phoenix, AZ. I almost didn't buy the car because of this. Many other car manufacturers such as Infiniti's other models, Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, Opel, Kia and Hyundai offer seat ventilation. I love these seats, but I won't have a complete experience until they have ventilation. Lastly, the exhaust note is not very noticeable. When you first start the car, there is a slight growl that seems promising, but once the engine speed dies down to idle, the car is almost as quiet as a Tesla. If you put the car in
