2018 Infiniti Q60 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti Q60 is a 2-door sport luxury coupe manufactured by Japanese automaker Infiniti. It is the successor to the Infiniti G coupe and convertible. The Q60 nameplate was first used as a rebranding of Infiniti G coupes. A new version was introduced in early 2016, as a 2017 model.

First generation (2013; V36)

The first-generation Infiniti Q60 was based on the fourth generation (V36) G Coupe. This came about when Infiniti former president Johan de Nysschen cited the need for "a new identity and direction to promote consumer familiarity with our model range as we expand the portfolio." Beginning in 2014, all passenger cars would be "Q" followed by a two-digit number. Those numbers would correspond to the vehicle’s position in the Infiniti hierarchy.

Second generation (2016; V37)

The second-generation Infiniti Q60 was unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show as a concept. A year later, Infiniti unveiled the production version at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, followed by the European version debuting at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The vehicles went on sale in the end of 2016 as models for 2017. Early models included 2.0t, 3.0t (304/405PS).

American models went on sale as model year vehicles for 2017. Early models included 2.0t, 2.0t AWD, 3.0t (304PS), 3.0t AWD (304PS) in August 2016; followed by Red Sport 400 and Red Sport 400 AWD later in September 2016. 3.0t Sport and 3.0t Sport AWD went on sale in December 2016. Europe models were set to go on sale in October 2016 as a model year for 2017. Early models included 2.0t, followed by 3.0t (405PS).

The 2017 Q60 received many major upgrades like a lower and wider body, introduction of second generation Direct Adaptive Steering, Drive Mode Selector with custom settings profile, hydraulic electronic rack and pinion power steering system standard (2.0t), introduction of Dynamic Digital Suspension, retuned seven speed automatic transmission, Active Grille Shutter in V6 engine models, and for the first time, all new turbocharged engines. The Q60 Convertible was discontinued for the second generation.

Following the redesign, the new Q60 is able to have a drag coefficient of just 0.28, and zero front and rear lift. This allows the vehicle to remain stable at high speeds and in crosswind conditions. This is due to the all-new Active Grille Shutters, which help balance the engine's cooling requirements while also enhancing aerodynamics. The grille shutters remains closed under normal use, and open up when greater performance is required.

The Q60 is available in several trims: Pure, Luxe, Sport and Red Sport 400.

The only engine choice for the Pure and Luxe trims is the Mercedes-Benz sourced 2.0L turbocharged engine(Not true at least since 2019 as current Pure and Luxe Q60 comes with a 3.0L Turbo Charged engine.), while the Sport and Red Sport receive the all new 3.0L turbocharged Nissan VR engine. The engine is the same for both the Sport and Red Sport trims, however, the Red Sport model is tuned to make 400 hp (298 kW). The Sport trim's output is 300hp and. All engines are mated to a 7-speed automatic, and the 3.0t is also equipped with dual automatic transmission coolers. The 6-speed manual was dropped for the second generation.

Q60 Red Sport 400 is based on Q60 3.0t (304PS) coupe. Features include 14" rotors on the front and 13.8" rotors on the rear, opposed 2 and 4 piston red calipers, sport tuned Digital Dynamic Suspension, semi aniline leather appointed sport seats, aluminium accented pedals and paddle shifters, unique dual brushed satin finish Red Sport 400 exhaust tips, exclusive 20 inch sport aluminium-alloy wheels (staggered for RWD models) and chrome finished red 'S' exterior sport badging on the trunk and front fenders.

The Q60 also offers slew of new technologies and safety features. For 2018 model year, the ProAssist Package consisted of: Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Rain Sensing Wipers and Backup Collision Intervention® with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The ProActive Package adds: Intelligent Cruise Control with Full Speed Range, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention with Active Lane Control, Blind Spot Intervention, Distance Control Assist, Advanced Climate Control System with Plasmacluster and Grape Polyphenol filter, auto leveling Adaptive Front Lighting System with High Beam Assist, front seat pre-crash seatbelts and Direct Adaptive Steering.

Common 2018 Infiniti Q60 problems

The 2018 Infiniti Q60 is known for several common problems that owners have reported. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the turbos, which are sensitive and require careful maintenance. If not maintained properly, the turbos can cause various problems, including power loss and engine stalling.

Another common problem with the 2018 Infiniti Q60 is a leaky water pump. The water pump is responsible for circulating coolant throughout the engine, and if it leaks, it can cause the engine to overheat and potentially fail. This issue is particularly common in the 2018 Q60, and it can be expensive to repair, as it often requires replacing the entire water pump.

The belts in the 2018 Infiniti Q60 are also known to be squeaky. This issue is often caused by a lack of lubrication or wear and tear on the belts. While squeaky belts are not necessarily a serious problem, they can be annoying and may indicate that the belts need to be replaced.

The brakes on the 2018 Infiniti Q60 are another common source of complaints. Some owners have reported that the brakes are premium-only, meaning that they require high-quality brake pads and rotors to function properly. If the wrong type of brake pads or rotors are used, they can cause premature wear and tear on the brakes, leading to reduced performance and increased maintenance costs.

In addition to these common problems, the 2018 Infiniti Q60 has also been subject to a recall related to stalling concerns. Due to a software glitch in the fuel pump control module, some Q50 and Q60 vehicles from the 2016, 2017, and 2018 model years may be at risk of stalling while driving. This issue can increase the risk of a collision, and it requires reprogramming the software on the fuel pump control module to fix.

Finally, some owners of the 2018 Infiniti Q60 have reported vibration issues in the cabin. This problem can be caused by various factors, including bad tires, misaligned wheels, or a drive shaft that is out of balance. While some owners have been able to resolve this issue by replacing their tires or adjusting their wheel alignment, others have found it to be more difficult to diagnose and fix.

In summary, the 2018 Infiniti Q60 has several common problems that owners have reported, including sensitive turbos, leaky water pumps, squeaky belts, premium-only brakes, and vibration issues in the cabin. While some of these problems can be resolved with regular maintenance and careful driving, others may require more extensive repairs or replacements. It is important for owners of the 2018 Infiniti Q60 to stay up-to-date on recalls and maintenance schedules to ensure the longevity and safety of their vehicles.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-08
  • VIN: JN1FV7EL3JM
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I was driving down the road heading to work on a regular street, not even the highway or anything. I heard a loud bang like a gun shot and I almost swerved and crashed from how loud it was. I immediately pulled over to see if maybe I ran something over or anything else, when I had noticed my sunroof glass had exploded like completely dismantled from some type of force from the inside. The glass looks pushed out from the inside. I’ve been calling the dealer ship to ask about recalls. I have looked online and their is a whole forum page about other cars that had the same issue and there’s one specific to Infiniti models. Please help I just don’t want to fix it right now and have it keep on happening if it’s some type of manufacturing defect

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-04
  • VIN: JN1FV7EK0JM
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The Infiniti Q60/Q50 has issues with the accessory belt. The belt is known to break without any warning or major signs of wear and tear. When the belt breaks it makes the car difficult to drive and poses a safety risk. This issue affects the 2017-2022 models. When the belt break it causes additional problems such as faulty water pumps, and engine over heating leading to major engine problems. These cars should have been recalled years ago. Drivers on social media have reported the problem with less that 10000 miles and up.

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-11-22
  • VIN: JN1EV7EK9JM
  • Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Something is malfunctioning in the steering of this car...About a month ago I was driving my car and noticed it would not accelerate, it kept stalling but not shutting off, as well as it was swerving on it's own with the slightest bumps in the road, and I am not able to control the steerring. I called the service dept. at Colter Infiniti in Mesa Az where I purchased it and they towed it to their service center. They said that the battery was dead which caused the CAMS malfunction, they replaced the battery(infiniti battery) fixed the CAMS and I picked up my car. At first it seemed to function normally, the next day I drove to work and noticed it still swerving whenever I would drive on any uneven pavement or try to switch lanes and have to cross over any bumps, the car will oversteer. This happens at speeds higher than 35-40 mph however, It happens under 35-40, but is controllable... I also took it to another Infiniti dealer Infiniti on Camelback, and they checked everything and said I should lower the tire pressure, I lowered them to 31(35 is recommended) and it still continues. I have checked car forums and they are saying it could be the Direct Adaptive Steering(DAS) , I asked the service department at Camelback to check that and they said they ran all tests and couldn't find a fault. No warning lights or codes come on, and dealer can't find the fault. I believe this issue is a computer failure and it will not throw a code since it is not a part or mechanical issue, it is computer issue. I also asked them to reset my computer and they said that wasn't necessary. I have reported this issue with Infiniti Consumer Affairs, I feel this car is a danger if i drive faster than 35-40 mph as it becomes uncontrollable.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-01
  • VIN: JN1EV7EK2JM
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: There seems to be an issue with my 2018 Infiniti Q60 and I am not the only one. My allignment is perfect and my tires are new but the vehicle still tends to wander on the freeway which feels very unsafe and dangerous. I have spoken to others with this vehicle and they also have the same issue. Nobody can figure out what it is but it makes the car very uncomfortable to drive because you are constantly trying to steer the car back in its lane. Please do a recall in this vehicle before somebody gets seriously hurt out in the road. This is the Luxe 3.0t edition and Ive heard the same complaints on the Sport model aswell. We know for a fact that a new vehicle like this, especially stock with very low miles should not drive like this. This is could be a huge potential liability to the Nissan/Infiniti company.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-11-30
  • VIN: JN1FV7EK1JM
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHILE DRIVING 2018 INFINITI Q60S RED SPORT. AFTER A SEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN PREDICTED WITH THE DRIVE-BY-WIRE OR STEER-BY-WIRE SYSTEM. (DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING SYSTEM) MILEAGE AT TIME OF EVENT APPROX. 2,252 MILES. DRY ROADS, NO RAIN, OVERCAST, ABOUT 70 DEGREES. SPEED AT TIME OF STEERING FAILURE BETWEEN 65 AND 70 MPH. ROAD STRAIGHT. DRIVING IN RIGHT LANE OF THREE LANE, SAME DIRECTION TRAFFIC. STEERING SUDDENLY AND IMMEDIATELY CHANGED FROM NORMAL TO WHAT INITIALLY FELT LIKE BOTH FRONT TIRES COMPLETELY FLAT. QUICKLY REALIZED IT WAS NOT FLAT TIRES BUT RATHER A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. MUCH WORSE THAN FLAT TIRES. WARNING LIGHT ON DASH. I HAD ALMOST NO REACTION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. ONCE PARKED, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. WARNING LIGHT OFF. I MOVED THE CAR AND IT BEHAVED NORMALLY. AS IF IT NEVER HAPPENED. . I HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS WAS FAR WORSE. WITH NORMAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING, IN MY EXPERIENCE, YOU HAVE A HEAVY AND SLUGGISH RESPONSE TO STEERING. BUT IT IS A RESPONSE, NONETHELESS. UNNERVING, YET YOU DO NOT FEEL A COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL. IN THIS SITUATION, I DID NOT KNOW IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO EFFECT THE CAR AT ALL. IT WAS VERY DIFFERENT THAN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. IT WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL. IF THIS FAILURE HAD HAPPENED IN MOST ANY OTHER DRIVING CONDITION, IT MAY VERY WELL HAVE RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC EVENT. IF NEEDED, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE ANY EVASIVE MOVES. THE RECALL STATES: "MAY CAUSE THE WARNING LAMP TO ILLUMINATE AND THE EPS TO GO INTO FAIL-SAFE MODE AND INCREASE DRIVER STEERING EFFORT." THIS STATEMENT GROSSLY UNDERSTATED THE DANGER. I DOUBT I COULD HAVE NAVIGATED IN ANY CONDITION BESIDES STRAIGHT ROAD. THERE IS A FAR MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE.

2018 Infiniti Q60 recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2018 Infiniti Q60.

2019-09-12
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. • Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

Negative 2018 Infiniti Q60 car reviews

  1. Edwin Reilly 2024-11-21

I recently purchased the 2018 Q60S Red Sport and have been driving it for about two months now. While I have read some reviews on the car, I both agree and disagree with some of the points made. For instance, I disagree with the notion that the trunk space is too small. In my opinion, if you are buying a luxury sports car, you are not buying it for the trunk space. The trunk in the Red Sport can easily fit plenty of groceries or two small suitcases (I have done it myself). However, I do agree with the reviews that mention the screens. They are a bit outdated and not as user-friendly as they could be. Many other car companies, such as Chevy, Ford, and even Jeep, have Apple Play in their cars, and I believe Infiniti should consider upgrading to something similar. Additionally, the printing on the screen is quite small and difficult to read. As a loyal Infiniti customer who has purchased 5, 6, and even 7 Infiniti cars, I would love to see these small changes implemented.

  2. Jamison Weber 2024-11-06

I am so happy to be writing this review and sharing my experience with you. I was thrilled to read RohanB's review, which confirmed what happened to me (you can read his review here too!). Like RohanB, I was renting a car and had my son with me. Unfortunately, I was less fortunate than RohanB and ended up hitting the guard rail and spinning around. Luckily, we didn't hit any other vehicles. It was raining heavily, and I remember sliding into the middle lane before the car suddenly went hard right, and it felt like hydroplaning. I have been driving for almost 30 years, and I am not a speeder. I haven't had a speeding ticket since my teenage years. Thank God the other safety features in the car were awesome, and we both got out okay. My son had a few bruises, but we are alive and well. I do have the headache of dealing with an out-of-state wreck, but I'll take that over other options any day! I want to share a PSA with you all: stay away from adaptive steering technology. Perhaps it's 99% okay, but it's the 1% that matters when it's life or death. I had no idea I was renting a car with that technology. Hertz had a row of cars to pick from, and since I was with my son, we picked the cool-looking car! It sure was cool-looking. Lesson learned: do a quick review of car safety issues before picking a car to rent.

  3. Ibrahim Bruen 2024-09-21

I have been a loyal Infiniti customer for 10 years, however, I have had a disappointing experience with the 2017 Infiniti Q60 tires. Despite being only 1 1/2 years old, I have already had to replace them three times due to flats. The cost of these tires is over $500, which is quite expensive. I am a careful driver and always watch where I am going, but unfortunately, hitting a bump can cause a flat tire. This can be quite alarming and inconvenient, as it can ruin your day and leave you searching for a replacement tire. I believe that these tires are not up to the standard that I expect from Infiniti. I hope that the company will take note of this issue and improve the quality of their tires. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I noticed a few things about your car that might be worth looking into. For example, the aerodynamics on the mirrors seem to be a bit off, which can make it feel like you're driving a 1970s Camaro. Additionally, there was a leak in the antifreeze that was difficult to locate, and even though no lights went on and it didn't overheat, the engine had to be replaced with one that had less than 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, the car hasn't been the same since then, and the transmission shifts even worse than before. I hope this information is helpful to you!

On the evening of April 17th, 2022, I experienced an issue with my vehicle. My car started making a fluttering noise, similar to the sound of someone shuffling a deck of cards, and the RPMs would drop to 3 during acceleration, causing me to lose power. Despite there being no warning lights, notifications, indicators, odors, or smoke emitting from my car, I parked it at home, unsure of what the issue was or where the noise was coming from. The next morning, I called Infiniti in Timonium to schedule an appointment, and after doing so, I went out to check my car. Unfortunately, the noise was still present, and my check engine light came on after a few seconds of running. To get a pre-diagnosis and additional information about the condition of my car, I took it to Autozone on Liberty Road to have the codes pulled. The codes that came back were P0014 and P0024, both camshaft codes. However, there were still no other symptoms of odor or smoke, just the fluttering noise and the check engine light. On my way back home, my car stalled at Liberty Road and Rolling Road and wouldn't turn back on. I contacted AAA and had it towed to Infiniti the same day. Sean Bonnie was assigned as my service advisor, and my car was at Infiniti in Timonium for almost a month when Sean reached out to notify me of the presence of sludge and metal shavings in my oil pan, and that my engine was seized. He was adamant that it came from a lack of maintenance. I was using my third-party warranty, and they requested that I send proof of maintenance. I submitted my maintenance invoices to Sean, and he forwarded them to my Warranty Company. I provided invoices for my last 3 oil changes because I wasn't due for a fourth for another 6-700 miles. I bought my car at 35,796 miles, and I'm currently at 70,042 (42 miles out of the power train warranty). My warranty company requested a tear down to determine the cause of my engine seizing, so they could decide if my extended warranty covers it. Sean informed me that Infiniti refused the tear down, as they didn't want to tie up one of their bays for that long. If my warranty doesn't cover it, I would have to pay for the tear down. I agreed to accept liability for the tear down, as I was confident that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect or malfunction, since I followed the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. However, Infiniti still refused. During my time working with Infiniti, I requested photos of the contents of my oil pan, but Sean advised that no pictures were taken. After expressing my concerns to consumer affairs and not receiving any assistance, I had my car towed to a mechanic to have it torn down. When I arrived, Infiniti presented me with a $3,000 invoice for diagnostics that they didn't provide any documentation for. Nationwide allowed me to take my car without paying for the diagnostic fee, as we agreed that the problem couldn't have been properly diagnosed without removing and inspecting the engine. I followed Infiniti's 10k maintenance schedule, but my car still failed, and they refuse to assist. As of 2023, I am still fighting with everyone about this engine issue.

I've owned a B8 S4, N55 135i, a mk6 Golf R with stage 2, and many other cars. However, I truly believe that the 3.0T Q60 Awd (non Red Sport) accelerates and turns better than any of them. It puts out 100% torque to the rear and handles better than the 135i. Additionally, with the driver assist package, it feels much safer and it's a stunning luxury car. I'm extremely satisfied!

I'm so glad I chose this vehicle! Although I was a bit nervous when I bought it, it has proven to be a quick, sporty car with a touch of luxury. The stereo system (Bose) is really nice and I still get compliments from strangers after 2 years of owning it. The only downsides are the serious blind spots over the shoulders (which is to be expected with a sportscar layout) and the fact that the displays could be better concentrated into one.

This is my 5th Infiniti and I'm sold on them. I've owned 4 coupes and 1 sedan. I just purchased a 2018 Q60. The gas mileage is decent and the front seats are very comfortable. UPDATE: The gas mileage is still decent and the pickup when entering the freeway is good. I had some trouble getting used to the steering, which caused me to curb check twice.

She looks great in it and clearly enjoys wearing it. Not much else to say, but I'm glad she's happy with it! 😊
