The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.

From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.

As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

Common 2005 Hyundai Xg350 problems

The Hyundai XG350, produced in 2005, is known for its reliability and performance. However, some common problems have been reported by owners, which are important to consider if you own or are considering purchasing this car.

  1. Rough Idle Due to Faulty EGR Switching Valve

One of the most common issues with the Hyundai XG350 is a rough idle caused by a faulty EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) switching valve. The EGR valve is responsible for recirculating a portion of the exhaust gas back into the engine to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. When the EGR switching valve fails, it can cause a rough idle, stalling, and poor performance. The solution to this problem is to replace the faulty EGR switching valve.

  1. Engine Stalling

Another common problem with the Hyundai XG350 is engine stalling. This issue can occur while driving, and it can be caused by various factors, including faulty sensors, vacuum leaks, and electrical problems. In some cases, the problem can be resolved by resetting the engine control module or replacing the faulty sensors. However, if the problem persists, it may require more extensive repairs, such as replacing the throttle body or the electronic throttle control module.

  1. Check Engine Light and Car Loses Power

Some owners of the Hyundai XG350 have reported that the check engine light comes on, and the car loses power. This issue can be caused by various factors, including faulty sensors, vacuum leaks, and electrical problems. In some cases, the problem can be resolved by resetting the engine control module or replacing the faulty sensors. However, if the problem persists, it may require more extensive repairs, such as replacing the electronic throttle body or the throttle position sensor.

  1. Interior Leather Wear and Tear

Some owners of the Hyundai XG350 have reported that the interior leather has worn out or torn, especially in high-wear areas such as the driver's seat and the steering wheel. This issue can be caused by various factors, including normal wear and tear, exposure to sunlight, and poor maintenance. The solution to this problem is to replace the worn-out or torn leather with new leather or a leather substitute.

  1. Electrical Problems

Some owners of the Hyundai XG350 have reported electrical problems, such as malfunctioning interior lights, power windows, and power door locks. These problems can be caused by various factors, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, and corroded connectors. The solution to these problems is to replace the faulty parts or repair the wiring.

In conclusion, while the Hyundai XG350 is a reliable and high-performing car, it is not immune to common problems. If you own or are considering purchasing this car, it is important to be aware of these common issues and to address them promptly to ensure the longevity and performance of your vehicle.

Negative 2005 Hyundai Xg350 car reviews

The XG350L has a persistent transmission issue that neither the dealership nor the manufacturer have been able to resolve. Despite its occasional lack of power on startup, the car is generally a pleasure to drive. The design and features are impressive, and with a resolution to the transmission problems, Hyundai could easily compete with the top mid-size cars in the market. It is clear that the XG350L has the potential to be a luxurious and high-performing vehicle.

I recently purchased this car for its stylish appearance, affordable price, and great warranty. However, I did encounter some issues such as the need to replace the transmission, timing belt, and brakes at 60K miles. Additionally, the armrest latch and cruise control button broke, and there was a mysterious airbag light/sensor in the seat that took multiple attempts to fix. Unfortunately, just after the warranty expired, the main wire harness had a meltdown. Despite these setbacks, I still believe it is a decent car. I read the comments below and agree with many of the points made. I hope the transmission issues have been resolved. The biggest challenge I faced was the availability of parts, which often took a week to arrive from Korea. Lastly, I must admit that I feel a bit unpatriotic driving a non-American car. I wish I had supported an American company instead.

You can enjoy all the amenities of a Lexus or Caddie without breaking the bank with the Hyundai. Although it may not be as refined as some of its competitors, it still offers a lot of options. Occasionally, when starting the car, there may be a slight surge when touching the gas pedal, or it may take a moment to accelerate, but these issues usually resolve themselves within 20 seconds. Overall, I am very pleased with the car. The transmission is smooth and the steering feels good. I would definitely consider buying another Hyundai in the future.

Sorry to hear that you're getting such low gas mileage. I hope you're able to sell it soon!

Positive 2005 Hyundai Xg350 car reviews

  1. Sedrick Jones 2025-08-24

I had never seen or heard of this car before, but as soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew it was meant to be mine! I have not regretted a single day of owning it - it has never given me any problems. Just yesterday (1/26/10), the miles turned over to 55,555! It is fully loaded and the sticker price was over $30,000, but the dealer sold it to me for only $22,000 with no money down, out of pocket expenses, or trade-in. It still looks brand new, with no door dings or scratches, even though I don't have a garage. I am careful where I park it because I want to keep it in pristine condition. I plan to keep this car forever and take good care of it. I make sure to keep up with the maintenance and it has been good to me so far! I hope they bring this car back so that when it does eventually go, I can get another one. I'm not too crazy about the Azera that replaced it.

This is my first Hyundai and I absolutely love the way it drives and rides. I used to drive a Chevrolet until I bought this one, but I wouldn't go back now. It's incredibly comfortable and has great acceleration. I'm thrilled with my purchase and the salesman was so friendly and helpful that I would definitely buy from him again. I feel great driving my Hyundai!

  3. Garnet Kihn 2025-08-02

Despite the recent issues I have experienced with my 2005 XG350L, I remain confident in my ability to resolve them. While driving from a parking space, my car has been limited to a speed of only 10 miles per hour, regardless of how much gas I give it. However, I have already replaced the accel position sensor and fuel sensor, and I am determined to find a solution to this problem. Although the repair shop was unable to duplicate the issue, I am confident that I will be able to identify and fix the underlying cause. While the car's body may be prone to dents and scratches, I still believe that it is a reliable vehicle. I am currently working with the Hyundai Motor America consumer assistance center to resolve this issue, and I am optimistic about the outcome.

We purchased the XG in July of 06 with 7200 miles on it. I am proud to say that at 90,000 miles, it still runs like a champ. We have only needed regular oil and transmission changes, and have not had a major tune up since we got the car. It gets 450 highway miles to the tank and about 26 miles in the city at 87 octane. We have even driven it from Oklahoma to Florida and back without any problems. I would highly recommend the XG350L to anyone looking for style and comfort at an affordable price. We purchased it for just over $19,000...

I recently traded in my 2002 Buick LeSabre for the XG350 and I must say, it was a great decision. I drove it for 700 miles without any issues and found it to be extremely comfortable, especially for long distance drives. I got an amazing deal from Harrelson Hyundai in Charlotte NC, who still have 4 new 2005's on the lot. We tested the 2006 Sonata, 2006 Accord, sat in the 2006 G6, Lacrosse, Lucerne and Ford 500, as well as the 2007 Camry, but we found the XG350 to be the best option. It's easy to drive, with logically laid out controls and more features than the others, all at a lower price. We even managed to lower our monthly payment by $125. Overall, I highly recommend the XG350 to anyone in the market for a new car.
