The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.

From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.

As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

Common Hyundai Xg350 problems

The Hyundai XG350, a car from the year 2003, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. These issues include defects in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, problems with the fuel tank, poor shift quality, suspension issues, seat belt malfunctions, electrical system problems, and body paint concerns.

One of the most frequently reported problems with the Hyundai XG350 is a defective EGR system, which can cause an intermittent or unstable engine idle. The EGR system is responsible for recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. However, when the EGR valve switches fail, it can lead to a rough or unstable engine idle. The average cost to replace this component is between $180 and $220.

Another common complaint among Hyundai XG350 owners is related to the fuel tank. Some owners have reported issues with the fuel line causing the pump to kick off prematurely when adding gas. This can result in the pump clicking off as if the tank is full, even after less than $1 has been added. This problem can be frustrating and may require the attention of a professional mechanic to diagnose and resolve.

Issues with poor shift quality have also been reported by Hyundai XG350 owners. In some cases, replacing the transmission fluid has been found to resolve the problem. However, in other instances, the transmission control module may need to be updated with the latest software to improve shift quality. This issue can be particularly problematic, as it can affect the overall driving experience and may require costly repairs to resolve.

Suspension problems have also been reported by Hyundai XG350 owners. These issues can range from minor annoyances, such as squeaky or noisy suspension components, to more serious problems, such as worn-out or damaged suspension parts. In some cases, these issues may require the replacement of suspension components, which can be costly and time-consuming to repair.

Seat belt malfunctions have also been reported by Hyundai XG350 owners. In some cases, the seat belts may not retract properly or may become stuck in the locked position. This can be a safety hazard and may require the attention of a professional mechanic to diagnose and resolve.

Electrical system problems have also been reported by Hyundai XG350 owners. These issues can range from minor annoyances, such as intermittent electrical failures or malfunctioning lights, to more serious problems, such as complete electrical failures. In some cases, these issues may require the replacement of electrical components, which can be costly and time-consuming to repair.

Body paint concerns have also been reported by Hyundai XG350 owners. These issues can range from minor scratches or chips in the paint to more serious problems, such as peeling or fading paint. In some cases, these issues may require the attention of a professional body shop to diagnose and resolve.

In summary, the Hyundai XG350, a car from the year 2003, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. These issues include defects in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, problems with the fuel tank, poor shift quality, suspension issues, seat belt malfunctions, electrical system problems, and body paint concerns. These issues can be frustrating and may require the attention of a professional mechanic to diagnose and resolve.

    Vehicle year: 2003

I recently purchased my XG and have been thoroughly impressed with it. Despite my initial doubts, this car has proven to have great performance, especially when using the manumatic mode. This feature is not even an option on its competitors, but comes standard on the XG. With manumatic mode, the car can reach 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 17.5 seconds - not too shabby for a mid-size car, especially from Hyundai. Additionally, the XG comes with a range of impressive features, including 6-way power driver seats, 4-way passenger seats, leather upholstery, a 10-year/100k mile warranty, digital AC/heater, rear vents, and a CD and cassette player.

  2. Sigurd Runolfsson 2025-01-26

    Vehicle year: 2002

I noticed some issues mentioned in the reviews. Our XG350 has had a few problems, such as the alternator, a bad coolant hose, and the radio shutting off on its own. Additionally, the moon roof doesn't work, the tiptronic isn't great at shifting, and the transmission is starting to go bad. The car also feels like it has poor handling, and the shocks are starting to make noise, although it may be the bushings rather than the shocks. It's unfortunate, especially considering my mom drives this car and it has only 20,000 miles despite being an '02 model. On the bright side, the car is pretty fast for a Hyundai. However, I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone due to its unappealing appearance and subpar quality.

Sorry to hear that you're getting such low gas mileage. I hope you're able to sell it soon!

  4. Luis Herzog 2024-09-01

    Vehicle year: 2004

My goal was to find a reliable and spacious car for my wife. I ruled out domestic cars due to their history of disappointing buyers. While Japanese cars were an option, I was looking for something more. That's when I discovered the Korean cars, which are quickly gaining popularity. Ultimately, I chose the XG 350 and we couldn't be happier with it. While it may not be a Maybach, it doesn't try to be anything it's not.

  5. Prince Lowe 2024-05-25

    Vehicle year: 2004

I purchased my first car on January 24th, 2004. Unfortunately, I experienced severe electrical problems with it. However, the dealer was kind enough to replace the car on January 30th, 2004. The replacement car has been in the shop twice for transmission shifting problems, with a clank and rough shift from 1st gear to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I asked the dealer to buy back the car, but he offered us $9000 less than what we had paid, despite having put only 1400 miles on the car. Additionally, the windshield wipers are quite noisy and I feel a sense of tip-over when driving on curves. I am not happy with this car or the way the dealer has handled the situation, but I suppose I am stuck with it. My advice would be to avoid purchasing this car.

    Vehicle year: 2004

I traded in my 2000 Cadillac Seville for a 2004 XG350L and I must say, the Cadillac was not up to par. Before the Cadillac, I owned a Lincoln Town Car. Both cars ran and rode fine, but I found that American cars lose their value once they turn 5 years old and exceed 100,000 miles. This is frustrating considering the initial cost. I chose Hyundai for the warranty, but I was pleasantly surprised by the level of luxury and comfort that the XG350 provided. It exceeded my expectations!

  2. Osborne Nitzsche 2025-02-18

    Vehicle year: 2005

I completely agree with Aaron. Although the parts can be foreign and not always in stock, I haven't had any issues with the transmission. However, there is a minor glitch with the heating and A/C blower that won't shut off. The good news is that the problem has been noted and can be easily fixed by replacing the blower motor resistor (located above and behind the glove compartment). While the timing belt can be a bit costly at $900, it's still cheaper than buying a new car. The tires are a bit fancy and expensive to replace as there are only a couple of options to choose from. Overall, I think it's a fantastic car with a smooth and quiet ride. I also love all of the options that come with it. It definitely has a 'rich' feel to it.

  3. Jamaal Russel 2025-02-10

    Vehicle year: 2003

I first saw the car at the San Jose Auto Show in 2001 and have been dreaming of owning it ever since. The engine is incredibly powerful and the 5-speed automatic transmission with manual override makes for a thrilling driving experience. The car is also very roomy and comes with leather heated front seats and a CD-changer, all for the great price of $23,500 (including CA taxes). What's not to love? Additionally, the car has proven to be very reliable with no issues so far (knocking on wood). A friend of mine had to take his BMW in for minor repairs three times in the same period of time. Overall, I highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a fun and reliable ride!

  4. Eladio Kohler 2025-02-08

    Vehicle year: 2004

I traded my 05 Chevy C1500 to my sister for this car. My wife is the main driver and she absolutely loves it. The ride is smooth and it feels solid, not tinny like some smaller cars. It has decent power (although I'm used to V8 cars with manual transmissions) and can out run most similar cars. It has almost every option you can think of, except for HID lights and navigation. It currently has 45,000 miles on it and the only warranty work needed was a replacement sensor for the emissions system on the gas tank. The brakes are good and there have been no problems with warpage of the rotors, even when driving down mountains every day. The radio is decent and gets the job done, but it's not a DB drag winner. In my opinion, it's the best car for the money in its price range. I highly recommend checking it out first when looking at cars.

  5. Marley Kihn 2025-02-07

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 04 Sonata! It sounds like you made a great decision to take advantage of the end of year pricing, rebates, and owner loyalty bonus to upgrade to a sharp 05 XG350 for under $17,000. The interior and features sound fantastic, and it's great to hear that everyone who rides in it loves it. While it may drink a bit more gas than some other cars, the price you paid for this discontinued model more than makes up for it. And who knows, maybe gas prices will come down in the future?
