2002 Hyundai Xg350 problems

The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.
From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.
As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

As someone who rates vehicle ride quality for a living, I have driven many different vehicles. I am pleased to say that my XG350L is on par with cars that cost thousands of dollars more. In fact, the only vehicle I have driven with better ride quality was a Lexus LS400 several years ago. I am extremely happy with my purchase so far. The car is not only fun to drive but also very comfortable. It looks fantastic and the heated seats are perfect for the northern climate I live in. My wife also loves the seats as she can turn the heated seat on while I can turn the heater down, making me more comfortable. Additionally, the sound system is fantastic. Overall, it is a great car!

When I started looking for my third car in two years, I was being quite picky. During my search, I test drove a 2001 xg300 and I absolutely fell in love with it. I kept my search going strong because I knew that the xg was the car for me. Finally, I found my xg350 in great shape and bought the car of my dreams!

I looked around and test drove BMW, Lexus, Honda, and Camry. Unfortunately, the salespeople at those dealerships weren't very friendly and seemed more interested in taking my money than helping me find the right car. However, when I went to a Hyundai dealer, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and there was no pressure to buy. The XG350L had more standard features than other brands and was an amazing value! After purchasing it, I took it for a drive up a mountain and was blown away by how well it handled and responded.

Best buy out there. Period.

Couldn't have found a better value for money. While it may not match up to BMW, Lexus, or other cars priced at $30,000 and up, it holds its own with the cars it was meant to compete with. There are always trade-offs when designing cars, and the ones here are well worth it. I find no problem with build quality. The suspension could be tighter for a more sporty ride, and I suspect to see improvement over the next few.

I recently purchased this car at 180k and made some minor repairs before getting it registered. Unfortunately, after driving only 200 miles, the water pump failed and required a repair costing at least $600. Additionally, I discovered that the car was leaking power steering fluid, which the previous owner did not disclose to me. Despite leaving a bottle of power steering fluid in the back, I unknowingly ran it dry, which could potentially lead to further issues and expenses. However, the engine runs smoothly and quietly. It's worth noting that repairs for this car can be quite expensive.

I bought this car used with 40k miles on it. Unfortunately, the engine failed at 115k miles. If you own or plan to buy this car, I highly recommend changing the timing belt at 70k miles. The belt is made of pressed fiber and needs to be replaced to avoid engine damage. Unlike non-interference engines, the Korean v6 is an interference engine, which means that if the timing belt fails, the engine will be severely damaged. We have always used Mobil One synthetic oil and have had great success with our two American v6 cars, one with 180k miles and the other with 225k miles, and we have never had to change the timing belt. Although the XG350 had a rattle in the driver's side trunk, it was comfortable on long trips. However, it was not very fun to drive. While I do not recommend this car and will not be purchasing another Hyundai, your experience may differ.

I noticed some issues mentioned in the reviews. Our XG350 has had a few problems, such as the alternator, a bad coolant hose, and the radio shutting off on its own. Additionally, the moon roof doesn't work, the tiptronic isn't great at shifting, and the transmission is starting to go bad. The car also feels like it has poor handling, and the shocks are starting to make noise, although it may be the bushings rather than the shocks. It's unfortunate, especially considering my mom drives this car and it has only 20,000 miles despite being an '02 model. On the bright side, the car is pretty fast for a Hyundai. However, I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone due to its unappealing appearance and subpar quality.
