2023 Lincoln Nautilus problems

lincoln logo

The Lincoln Nautilus is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. The Nautilus was initially renamed from the MKX as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year, as Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names. The name 'Nautilus' is derived from the ancient Greek word nautes, meaning "sailor," as in nautical or astronaut.

The first generation is based on the CD4 platform, and was manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT and manufactured in Hangzhou Assembly in Zhejiang, China by joint venture Changan Ford from 2021 to 2023. The second generation is solely produced by Changan Ford in China, as Ford is retooling the Oakville Assembly plant to produce electric vehicles.

First generation (U540; 2019)

The Lincoln Nautilus was released as the mid-cycle revision of the second-generation MKX in November 2017 for the 2019 model year. Adopting the styling of the newly introduced Continental and Navigator, the Nautilus transitioned from the previous split-wing grille to a large rectangular grille with a large Lincoln star emblem.

The counterpart of the updated Ford Edge, the Nautilus is slotted between the Aviator and the MKC (which was replaced by Corsair for the 2020 model year) in Lincoln's lineup. A 245-horsepower (248 PS; 183 kW) 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four is the standard engine, with a 335-horsepower (340 PS; 250 kW) 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 carried over from the MKX as an option; both engines are fitted with start-stop capability. An 8-speed automatic transmission is paired to both engines (replacing the previous 6-speed).

For the 2021 model year, the Nautilus was once again refreshed with a new interior similar to the new Navigator, Aviator, and Corsair, featuring a larger 13.2" touchscreen and Ford's latest SYNC 4 system. Minor changes were also made to the front bumper.

Common 2023 Lincoln Nautilus problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2023 Lincoln Nautilus, several common problems have been reported:

  • Infotainment System Glitches: Another common problem involves the infotainment system. Owners have experienced glitches and freezing screens, which can be frustrating and affect the usability of the entertainment and information features in the car.
  • Rear Shock Absorber Recall: Ford Motor Company issued a recall for certain 2023 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles due to rear shock absorbers that may have been manufactured incorrectly. This issue can lead to damage to various components like the rear brake hose, rear axle half shaft, wheel speed sensor, and stabilizer bar end links. A damaged brake hose can increase the stopping distance, posing a safety risk.
  • Child Seat Tether Wire Welds: Another recall involved insufficient welds on the child seat tether wire in the second-row left-side seat back frame. This issue can reduce the seat's ability to properly restrain a child during a crash, potentially increasing the risk of injury. Ensuring proper child safety restraint is crucial for the safety of passengers, especially children.

These reported problems highlight the importance of thorough inspections, regular maintenance, and prompt attention to recalls to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of the 2023 Lincoln Nautilus.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-19
  • VIN: 2LMPJ8KP0PB
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: Purchased vehicle 7/29/23 While driving 8/19, vehicle auto-shifted from drive into neutral and the check engine light appeared. I was in the process of accelerating from the on ramp & moving to the left lane. Attempts to return the vehicle to drive were unsuccessful & I coasted to the right shoulder of the highway. The brakes were functional. Once stopped, the vehicle functioned as if it were in accessory mode (radio & power windows working). I was unable to move the vehicle out of neutral to park gear. More lights & error messages flashed on the driver display (I have a video). The on/off button & the light at the neutral gear were flashing. I was able to engage the parking brake & remained in the vehicle on the narrow shoulder on the side of the highway. Tow operator arrived & was able to engage the park gear; however, it would not move back into neutral for him to begin the process to move it onto the rollback for the tow. Attempts were made to disconnect/reconnect the battery & to use the vehicle procedures for a low battery which were unsuccessful. There is an emergency release up under the dash; however, to reach the compartment it's in, the driver's door must be completely open & the operator must be on or near the ground. Due to the speed of the vehicles passing (est 60-70mph, most did not move over to the other lane), it was not safe for him to get into the position necessary to get to the compartment. He therefore had to pull the vehicle up on the rollback without being able to get the vehicle into neutral. At times during his attempts, the engine made a clicking noise and smelled as if something was burning. Fortunately, he was able to deliver it to the dealer where service staff were able to release the emergency cord to move the vehicle to neutral to get it off the rollback. As it was being moved, the engine started clicking again. The dealer's service team plans to look at it 8/21/23.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-25
  • VIN: 2LMPJ8KP2PB
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: My 2023 Nautilus is currently at the dealership I purchased from.Shults Lincoln. Steering column, tilt and telescopic adjustments. While driving vehicle the tilt and telescopic moves on its on. This has happened mulitudes of times. The most danderous event occured while my wife was driving and the telescopic feature pinned my wife in the seat. She had no control of steering the vehicle when the this happened. She was in a S turn and it could of been a bad accident, thank God there was no oncoming traffic. She had no control of steering when it telescoped all the way out. She came ever so close of rolling the vehicle. Yesterday 8/16/2023 it happened at the dealership with the salesman and service manager driving the vehicle. This was at the dealership where I purchsed. On 8/14/23 it had a new top steering column cover replaced at Family Ford/Lincoln dealership. They are in Marietta Ohio. I purchased at Shults Lincoln in Wexford PA.. There is no warning lights or caution before this steering column moves on its own. This has been going on sine July 20, 2023. Within the last week the battery has drained completely on 3 different times. 1500 miles registered and I had to jump start the vehicle. Shults Lincoln picked up the vehicle yesterday. This problem is going to get someone seriouly hurt. Its happened well over a dozen times. Its done it twice in one drive.

Negative 2023 Lincoln Nautilus car reviews

  1. Vince Hermiston 2024-11-23

I love the ride, low noise levels, comfort features, style, and color scheme. However, I did notice some issues with the build quality, such as excessive gaps on doors and trunk, uneven alignment, and some sags and blotchiness in visible areas of the paint. Additionally, there were some chrome burns, chrome misses, and dirt particles beyond acceptable limits. I also noticed that the cloth-wrapped A-pillars were not supported properly in the middle, which I believe is a design flaw. After 2 years of sun exposure, they have deformed beyond the blackout area. Despite these issues, I still enjoy the comforts of this vehicle and will keep them in mind when I buy my next Lincoln. By the way, this vehicle was built in Canada at the St. Thomas assembly plant.

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely understand where you're coming from. It seems like the content has been updated, but perhaps not as extensively as you were hoping for. Have a great day!

  3. Darren Walker 2024-05-04

The 2023 Nautilus has not met our expectations. We have noticed a few issues that we would like to address. Firstly, the road noise is quite loud, which makes it difficult to enjoy the ride with the windows down. Secondly, we have noticed that the driver's side mirror creates a blind spot, which is a safety concern. Thirdly, we have not been able to achieve a rich surround sound despite adjusting the fade, bass, and other features. Fourthly, we were surprised to find that the Nautilus has fewer storage compartments compared to the Ford Edges we have owned in the past. Lastly, while the Nautilus has comfortable seats and a great navigation monitor, we expected more from a Lincoln. We have found that the features in the Edge were superior to the Nautilus (except for the monitor and seat comfort). Our second car, an Audi A4, which is 10 years old, is better designed than our Nautilus. We hope that Lincoln will take these issues into consideration and make improvements in the future.

Positive 2023 Lincoln Nautilus car reviews

  1. Casper Bartell 2024-10-20

You'll love the smooth ride and the auto brake feature. The car also has decent mileage and easy-to-use features.

  2. Berta Gislason 2024-09-21

It's been almost a week and we love our Nautilus!

  3. Cornelius Roberts 2024-07-14

The leather seats with lumbar power button were comfortable and the price was just right! The ride is even better than that of BMW and Mercedes, so you can keep their badges. I would recommend bigger tires for the highway and a bigger engine as well, although it's not really necessary for a 65-year-old. The screen is easy to read and locks in Pandora nicely. I rode in a friend's Yukon and it felt like I was in a truck, no thanks! I'm really disappointed that Lincoln thinks we need a 3-seater or smaller car after my 2022 model is replaced.

  4. Dario Lindgren 2024-07-10

This is the most luxurious SUV I have ever owned. The features are user-friendly and make this vehicle a joy to drive.

  5. Sonny Hoeger 2024-06-11

The 2021 Nautilus may not be the best fit for everyone. However, it does have some positive features such as the easy in/out of the driver's seat. The audio system and navigation system may not meet everyone's expectations, and the seats may need more adjustments for comfort. Additionally, the backup camera may not be as effective in rainy conditions due to water on the lens. Overall, it's important to consider your personal preferences and needs before making a decision.
