2013 Honda Fit problems

honda logo

The Honda Fit (Japanese: ホンダ・フィット, Hepburn: Honda Fitto) or Honda Jazz is a small car manufactured and marketed by Honda since 2001 over four generations. It has a five-door hatchback body style and is considered a supermini in the United Kingdom, a subcompact car in the United States, and a light car in Australia. Marketed worldwide and manufactured at ten plants in eight countries, sales reached almost 5 million by mid-2013. Honda uses the "Jazz" nameplate in Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and India; and "Fit" in Japan, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan and the Americas.

Sharing Honda's global small car platform with the City, Airwave, first-generation Mobilio, Freed and HR-V/Vezel, the Fit is noted for its one-box or monospace design; forward-located fuel tank; configurable seats that fold in several ways to accommodate cargo in varying shapes and sizes— and cargo volume competitive to larger vehicles.

Honda released hybrid petrol-electric versions of the Fit in Japan in October 2010 and in Europe in early 2011. In 2012, Honda released the Fit EV, a limited-production all-electric version based on the second-generation model in the United States and Japan, and was widely regarded as a compliance car.

The fourth-generation model released in 2019 is currently sold in Japan, Europe, China, Taiwan, South Africa, Brunei and Singapore. Starting from 2020, the model was phased out in most Southeast Asian and Latin American countries to be replaced by the larger City Hatchback, while it was withdrawn entirely from the North American market due to falling demand within the subcompact segment.

  • Engine Problems: Reports of excessive oil consumption and engine misfires were noted in the 2009-2013 Fit models. Additionally, the 2013 model faced recalls due to potential engine failures caused by loosening connecting rod bolts.
  • Water Leaks: Certain 2013 Fits developed leaks into the interior, often due to issues with door seals or the air conditioning system.
  • Suspension Issues: Complaints about premature wear of suspension components, such as shock absorbers and struts, were common in the 2007-2013 Fit models.
  • Dashboard Warning Lights: The 2013 models had issues with various dashboard warning lights illuminating.
  • Electric Power Steering Failure: Complaints were raised about the electric power steering in the 2007-2013 Honda Fit models, which could fail and significantly increase steering effort.

These problems highlight some of the key issues reported by owners of the 2013 Honda Fit, ranging from discomfort due to seat design to mechanical and electrical issues affecting the vehicle's performance and reliability.

What is the most common problem with Honda Fit?

Many drivers have reported experiencing back and neck pain when driving their Honda Fit for long hours. Most point to the model's head restraints as the culprit because they're inclined forward, forcing the driver's head to tilt forward. Several drivers have also complained that the seats feel flat and unsupportive.

Is Honda Fit 2013 a reliable car?

As a result, we suggest taking a look at all these excellent choices, although we should also clarify that the 2013 Honda Fit remains a reliable, fuel-efficient and tremendously versatile little hatchback.

Is A Honda Fit a reliable car?

According to repairpal.com, the Honda Fit receives a 4. ⁄5 for reliability, which ranks it excellent. It comes in at 4th out of 21 for all subcompact vehicles. The annual repair cost of a Honda Fit is $390, almost $100 lower than the average of $456 for subcompact vehicles.

How many miles will a 2013 Honda Fit last?

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-19
  • VIN: JHMGE8H58DC
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Last evening the interior vehicle power (headlights, dash lights, AC/heat fan) intermittently flashed off then back on while driving...when this happened as I arrived home, I completely lost power steering (electronic power steering warning light came on) and could barely turn the steering wheel. Thankfully I was moving at relatively slow speed when I lost power steering, but this could certainly be a life hazard at higher speeds.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-07-15
  • VIN: JHMGE8G36DC
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The rear door window motors both failed. At the time of this report they are available for inspection. The safety risk is that back seat passengers could become trapped in the event of a water entry which makes doors difficult or impossible to open. Because the rear windows are typically operated less than the front, the average user would not expect that they have failed (especially if the fronts are working) and the failure would likely go unnoticed, possibly until the emergency situation occurs. The vehicle has not been checked or inspected by any dealer, service center, manufacturer, police, insurance representative, or any person other than myself. However, I have checked the fuses and verified with a voltmeter that the switches have power and are operating correctly thus isolating the failure to the motors. There is no warning lamp or message indicating that the window motors are not functional and I did not experience any symptoms other than the window not moving when the switches were depressed. I noticed the left rear failure first in July 2023 and at that time the right rear was still functional. Approximately a month later the right rear failed. I only thought to make this report because when I searched the internet for troubleshooting and replacement parts I found quite a few other accounts of a variety of Honda models with rear window failure many of them were both, and several auto mechanics indicated that this issue was common. Unless the rear doors use different motors than the front doors, it is possible that the root cause is a wiring/electrical problem and electrical problems have a reputation of eventually causing other seemingly unrelated problems elsewhere in the system.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-09
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: JHMGE8H31DC
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I had my airbags serviced in 2016 at a Honda dealership to fix the Takata airbag recall issue. In 2023, I was hit on the front left portion of the car at an estimated 50mph, and no airbags deployed. I contacted Honda about this issue, and they said my insurance company had to do an inspection relating to the airbag failure reasons, but my insurance company said Honda would have had to send an agent to inspect. My car was totaled and sold by the insurance company. I have the official pictures from the insurance company’s inspection to value the car.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-30
  • VIN: JHMGE8H37DC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2013 Honda Fit. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the vehicle stalled with a grinding sound coming from the vehicle. Upon restarting the vehicle, the failure persisted with the ABS warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle started rolling forward while in park(P) and the parking brake was activated to stop the vehicle from rolling. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the residence. An independent mechanic arrived at the residence and replaced the driver’s side CV axle. Upon taking the vehicle to a dealer for an oil change; the contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V770000 (Power Train); however, the recall was closed three years prior. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-11-19
  • VIN: JHMGE8H38DC
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: While my wife was coming to a stop in a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated and jumped over the curb into a pedestrian walkway. The car could not be stopped with the brake and continued moving over the walkway. Afraid that the car would hit a pedestrian or crash into cars on the busy street ahead, she was ready to stop the car by crashing it into a concrete column. Fortunately, she removed the key and the car stopped. A similar incident occurred in 2014 when the car suddenly accelerated while I was coming to a stop at a traffic light. In order to avoid hitting the car in front of me, I stopped by removing the key. Then I drove the car to the dealer. A master mechanic checked the car but could not duplicate the problem. In 2020, the car again accelerated suddenly while stopping at a traffic light. I stopped the car immediately but did not report the incident. After the third incident, we contacted the dealer and stated that we did not want to drive the car ever again because we did not want to risk injuring ourselves or others. We had the car towed to the dealer to be checked. The dealer could not duplicate the problem and they demonstrated safety features of the car that prevent the accelerator from overpowering the brake. We were not convinced since we use the same foot to operate the accelerator and the brake. Therefore, when the foot is on the brake, nothing is pushing the accelerator. The engine was accelerating by itself, possibly by the engine control software. We then initiated a case with American Honda. We were later informed by an American Honda case manager that their Field Technical Specialist had determined that “the vehicle is functioning according to Honda’s specifications” and that Honda was not going to investigate further. The local dealer agreed to buy the car at market price.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-11-09
  • VIN: JHMGE8H30DC
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: ECU detected a cylinder #2 misfire, check engine light started blinking while idling. prior, noticed a little bit of misfiring while driving at 60 mph, faint but noticeable. well aware of the plaqued inner cylinder's spark plugs coming loose on these make and models and honda's failed torque spec being changed from for the spark plug being in the cylinder. know this because of forums online. the plugs were torque spec to 20 ft-lbs. checked the #2 cylinder and spark plug was loose/out of the threads. also top piece of spark plug broke off and fell into cylinder. threads completely taken off the cylinder. having a honda dealer taking a look to assess damage. car mileage is 109,500. completely unacceptable and don't really feel confident in driving this vehicle safely anymore. car still has a lot of life left in it. 109,500 miles is still considered low for mainly highway miles. also VSA light came on same time the check engine light started blinking. someone could get hurt and lose control of the vehicle if this not dealt with. car stalled after a bit and lost power, can't imagine what it would be like on the highway. please honda, do a recall on this so other people don't get hurt. plus, i'm sure i'm not the only one who has this issue.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-01-01
  • VIN: JHMGE8G32DC
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: HONDA SENT ME A NOTICE OF THE FOLLOWING RECALL 20V-770. IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS AND THERE IS NO RESOLUTION TO THE ISSUE. THE DRIVE SHAFTS ON MY CAR COULD FAIL. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY BASICALLY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO AT THIS TIME, THAT I COULD TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, BUT IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG THEY COULDN'T FIX MY CAR. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT A RENTAL CAR IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEY SAID THAT THAT WASN'T IN THEIR POWER TO DO AT THIS TIME. I KNOW THAT THEY CAN DO THAT BECAUSE I ALSO WENT THROUGH THE AIR BAG RECALL AND WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR MONTHS WHILE THOSE PARTS CAME IT. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, HONDA IS BEING NEGLIGENT BECAUSE THEY KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG, THAT IT IS DANGEROUS, YET ALL THE CARS ARE STILL ON THE ROAD. WHAT IF I CRASH BECAUSE OF THIS? WHAT IF I ACCIDENTALLY KILL SOMEONE OR DAMAGE SOMEONE'S PROPERTY?THIS IS GROSS NEGLIGENCE ON HONDA'S PART. I WANT A SOLUTION NOW.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-03-07
  • VIN: JHMGE8G39DC
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: IN 2019 THE #3 SPARK PLUG CAME OUT OF CYLINDER HEAD WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROADWAY. I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED (SEE ATTACHED REPAIR RECEIPT). THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE SAME SPARK PLUG LAST WEEK (MARCH 7, 2021). AGAIN, THIS OCCURRED ON A TWO-LANE ROADWAY AT MODERATE SPEED. THE CAR RAN ROUGH FOR A WEEK OR SO BEFOREHAND, AND FUEL ECONOMY SUFFERED. ON MARCH 7TH, THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. A FOUL SMELL FILLED THE CAR. I BECAME DIZZY AND NAUSEOUS FROM EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-02-08
  • VIN: JHMGE8G32DC
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL TODAY (2/8/21) THAT SAYS THERE IS A RECALL ON MY HONDA FIT FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT IN SALT-BELT STATES. THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM YET - BUT SAID IN THE RECALL THAT THEY WOULD UPDATE THE RECALL BY 1/15/21. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM HONDA. THEY HAVE NOT EVEN OFFERED TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE - WHICH IS CRAZY BECAUSE IF THE DRIVE SHAFT BREAKS I COULD CRASH AND BE KILLED. HONDA SHOULD OFFER ALL VEHICLE OWNERS A RENTAL CAR WHILE THEY ARE "PREPARING REPLACEMENT PARTS" SO WE ARE NOT DRIVING ON THE ROADS WITH A CAR THAT COULD KILL US OR OTHER PEOPLE. OR THEY SHOULD AT LEAST BE REQUIRED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLES DRAFT SHAFTS TO SEE IF THE CORROSION HAS TAKEN PLACE.

  • Summary: DRIVERS SIDE CV SHAFT SHEARED UNDERNEATH VIBRATION DAMPENER. I WAS TRYING TO TAKE OFF FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION AND THE SHAFT BROKE. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO A RURAL STATE ROUTE. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN QUITE BAD IF ANYONE WAS COMING. AFTER PUSHING THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IT WOULDN'T STAY PUT IN PARK ALMOST LEADING TO IT ROLLING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE I WAS HALFWAY OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE BREAK ALSO HAPPENED INSIDE THE VIBRATION DAMPENER SO IF THERE WERE ANY CLUES OF THIS PART STARTING TO FAIL THEY WERE HIDDEN AND WOULD HAVE BEEN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR A MECHANIC TO SPOT.

I FOUND THERE WAS RECALL ON THIS FRONT AXLE FOR 2013 FIT MADE BETWEEN 5/24-7/5/13 FOR THIS FAILURE, BUT HONDA SAYS MY CAR HAD NO RECALL ON FILE SO IT WOULDN'T BE PART OF THIS RECALL. CAR ONLY HAS 59500 MILES. CUSTOMER SERVICE UNABLE TO TELL ME ACTUAL DATE MY CAR MFG AND THAT THEY ARE METICULOUS ON RECALLS. IF THEY'RE SO METICULOUS, WHY DID THEY PUT IMPROPERLY HEAT TREATED AXLES IN 3108 CARS? I SUSPECT MINE GOT MISSED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE THE BROKEN AXLE, WHICH I CAN TAKE TO A METALLURGIST IF NECESSARY.

  • Summary: ON FRIDAY FEBRUARY 28 MY RIGHT AXLE BROKE. IN HALF. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND WHEN THEY PUT THE CAR UP THEY BROUGHT ME THE BROKEN AXLE WHICH WAS ALL RUSTED. I CONSIDER THIS VERY DANGEROUS AND EVERYONE HAS TOLD ME THIS IS A VERY UNEXPECTED THING TO HAPPEN ON A 2013 CAR. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA AND VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY IN THIS HAPPENING. THANKFULLY, THIS OCCURRED WHEN I WAS STATIONARY AT A LIGHT IN MY OWN TOWN. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE DRIVING NORMALLY AND I CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND BRAKED AS USUAL. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENS. THE CAR RACED AND THERE WAS CLICKING NOISE. THE CAR WAS IN THE LEFT LANE WHEN IT OCCURRED AND I NEED TO TAKE MY OWN SAFETY INTO MY HANDS BY RUNNING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, NEEDING TO GET HELP TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE FO THE ROAD.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-10-02
  • VIN: JHMGE8H55DC
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN PORTLAND, OREGON, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE CUT OUT MAKING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE HONDA DEALER WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS (MECHANICS REPORT) "COMPRESSION GASKETS ON PLUG 1 & 2 ARE STUCK ON THE TOP THREADS, ALLOWING THE PLUGS TO BE TIGHTENED BUT COMPRESSION IS PASSING BY THE WASHER AND INTO THE SPARK PLUG TUBE." "COILS ONE AND TWO HAD HEAT DAMAGE AND CARBON TRACKING." FOUR SPARK PLUGS REPLACED ALONG WITH COILS FOR PLUGS 1 & 2. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND "WAS IN LIMP MODE " WHEN DRIVEN BACK TO THE HONDA DEALER. SPARK PLUGS ARE RARELY CHANGED THESE DAYS - APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A FACTORY DEFECT. I'VE READ SIMILAR REPORTS LIKE THIS ON THE NHTSA WEB PAGE UNDER 2013 HONDA FIT ENGINE ISSUES. DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATION WHEN ALL ENGINE POWER IS LOST WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60MPH-65MPH). MILEAGE - 49,381.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-12-15
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: JHMGE8H39DC
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
  • Summary: MY 2013 HONDA FIT HAS ONLY 76,000 ON IT. WHILE DRIVING THE RADIO SHUT OFF, HEAD LIGHTS DIMMED, DASH BOARD LIGHTS FLICKERED AND I LOST POWER STEERING. TOOK IT TO THE HONDA SERVICE STATION IN JASPER ALABAMA AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND STEERING WHEEL WITH EXCLAMATION POINT SHOWED UP ON THE DASH BOARD. CAR LOOSES POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN COMES BACK ON. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. WITH A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON IT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE ON THIS FORUM TO HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-09-11
  • VIN: JHMGE8H57DC
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: VEHICLE HAD 70,000 MILES ON IT, STARTED SMELLING FUEL IN THE CABIN WHICH GAVE ME A HEADACHE WHILE AT A STOP/IDLE/LOW SPEED WITH RECIRCULATED HVAC OFF. READING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ODOR IT SEEMS COMMON FOR HONDA FIT SPARK PLUGS TO LOOSEN AND BACK OUT. MECHANIC WAS CONTRACTED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE THE PLUGS AND DID NOT NEED A WRENCH TO REMOVE SPARK PLUG 2, IT WAS COVERED IN CARBON. REPLACING AND RE-TORQUING THE SPARK PLUGS CORRECTED THE ISSUE. IF I WAS NOT PROACTIVE AND FOUND THIS SEEMINGLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE FORUMS IT COULD HAVE LED TO A BLOWN OUT PLUG STRIPPING THE ENGINE HEAD AND CAUSED A STALL OUT CONDITION. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD ENGINE WORK AND WAS 25,000 MILES FROM SPARK PLUG SERVICE, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO LOOSE. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE THAT COULD END IN SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE BASED ON POSTS I HAVE READ.

STEERING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-08-03
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: JHMGE8G31DC
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
  • Summary: IT WAS RAINING. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 MPH. AT THIS POINT, THE ROAD CURVES TO THE RIGHT. I HAD JUST GONE THROUGH A DIP IN THE ROAD AND I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN HYDROPLANING. THE VSA LIGHT CAME ON AND THE RIDE BECAME VERY CHOPPY. I STARTED PUMPING THE BRAKES AND I TRIED TO STEER MY CAR TO STAY IN THE LANE BUT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULDN'T MOVE IT. I CONTINUED ON A STRAIGHT PATH EVEN THOUGH THE ROAD CURVED. I WAS ON THE LEFT HAND SHOULDER, HEADING OFF THE ROAD COMPLETELY, STILL TRYING TO STEER TO THE RIGHT WHEN THE VSA LIGHT ABRUPTLY TURNED OFF. AT THIS POINT THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY UNLOCKED AND I INADVERTENTLY PULLED IT HARD TO THE RIGHT; SENDING ME ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC, ACROSS THE RIGHT HAND SHOULDER, OVER A SMALL CURB AND INTO THE DIRT/DESERT. AS THIS WAS HAPPENING, I WAS ABLE TO CORRECT MY STEERING BACK TO THE LEFT BUT NOT BEFORE I WAS COMPLETELY OFF THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HIT A SMALL HILL NEXT TO IT WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR. AT THIS POINT, I MANAGED TO GET MY VEHICLE BACK ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THEY SAID MY TIRES WERE BALD WHICH CAUSED ME TO HYDROPLANE. REGARDLESS OF THE CONDITION OF THE TIRES, WHEN THE VSA IS ENGAGED, I SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO STEER THE CAR BUT I COULDN'T. THE TECHNICIAN RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST(S) AND SAID HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG WHEN YOUR STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AT CLOSE TO 65 MPH WHEN A SAFETY FEATURE IS ENGAGED.

2013 Honda Fit recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 10 recalls for different components of the 2013 Honda Fit.

2020-12-10
  • Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
  • Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Acura ILX, 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid, 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, and 2007-2008 Honda Fit vehicles with a manual transmission and 2009-2013 Honda Fit vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts' protective coating may not have been applied properly during manufacturing, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt, or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.
  • Consequence: A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing either the left or right drive shaft, if necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety risk with an interim letter mailed February 2, 2021. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are P9M, PAV, BAY, TAX, CA0, and MAZ.
2019-06-27

  • Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
  • Summary: American Honda Motor Co., Ltd, (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2013 Honda Fit vehicles manufactured May 24, 2013, through July 5, 2013, and equipped with a manual transmission. The passenger side driveshaft may break while driving due to an improper heat treatment application during manufacturing.
  • Consequence: If the driveshaft fractures and separates while driving, the vehicle would lose power and coast to a stop. If a vehicle with a fractured driveshaft is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could move unexpectedly. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the passenger side driveshaft and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on June 23, 2014. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JE4.

  • Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
  • Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
  • Summary: Honda is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport vehicles manufactured from May 23, 2011, through March 22, 2013, and model year 2012-2013 Honda Fit base vehicles manufactured from June 27, 2011, through April 19, 2013. In April 2013, Honda recalled 43,782 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport vehicles. In July 2013, Honda informed the agency that it was adding model year 2012-2013 Honda Fit vehicles in base trim to the recall campaign, representing an additional 48,138 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 91,920. The electronic stability control system of the affected vehicles may allow excessive yaw rates at high steering angles with certain tires. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Vehicle Motor Safety Standard No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
  • Consequence: Excessive yaw rates prevent the proper function of the electronic stability control (ESC) system, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners and dealers will update the ESC software free of charge. The safety recall began on August 1, 2013. Owners may contact Honda automobile customer service at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's recall campaign number is S99.

Negative 2013 Honda Fit car reviews

  1. Brown Beer 2024-07-13

This is a great car for anyone looking for a wagon-type vehicle with better-than-average fuel efficiency. It handles both freeway and city streets with ease, making it the perfect car for my daily commute. I test drove several other cars, including the Kia Rio5, the Kia Soul, the Ford Fiesta, the Hyundai Accent, and the Nissan Cube, but the Honda Fit provided the best overall experience.

  2. Blake Mraz 2024-05-22

I've read a lot of reviews that say it's fun to drive, but in reality, it's not. Unfortunately, my experience with the manual transmission was that it lagged off the line. I was hoping for spirited acceleration, but the 1.5 L engine has no power at low revs. However, this does mean that it has great gas mileage. You do need to rev the engine to get power, and the suspension is a bit spongy and leans heavily in turns. It doesn't have many tech features, with no Bluetooth or phone connection other than USB for charging. On the plus side, it does have good cargo room. I ended up getting rid of it after three years because other competitors had more options. I recently switched to a Chevy Spark EV, which I'm enjoying. I wasn't a fan of the way the dealer said that the 2013 model was such a good design that they didn't make any changes for 2014, and I wasn't thrilled with how they handled my purchase.

  3. Lula Hyatt 2024-02-17

Great space for passengers and cargo. However, if you are someone who doesn't play music while driving, you may find the loud roar of road noise at speeds above 35-40 to be quite annoying.

  4. Brennon Conn 2024-01-20

There is a distinction between a cheap car and an inexpensive car. Unfortunately, this Honda falls into the former category. Additionally, the Honda service groups at the dealership can be difficult to deal with. It can be frustrating to feel like you're being treated poorly after purchasing a car. For example, the dealership may charge $100.00 to change a cabin air filter, when it can be easily done for much less. Another issue is the air conditioner, which has a design flaw that can lead to damage. There are several other examples of these types of issues.

  5. Forest Weimann 2024-01-04

Avoid purchasing this car as the battery is significantly smaller than a lawn mower battery and does not hold up well. The dealer and manufacturer have been unhelpful in addressing these issues, and the car's poor design is a major concern. Unfortunately, they do not stand behind their product. This has been the worst car I have ever owned, and I will not be purchasing another Honda in the future.

Positive 2013 Honda Fit car reviews

  1. Lorenz Dare 2025-01-08

I looked at almost all of the competing vehicles and went with the Fit since it fit my needs best. For the price, it's hard to beat considering the legendary reliability of Honda cars. In my opinion, the closest competition is the Scion xD and Hyundai Accent.

  2. Clay VonRueden 2024-11-11

This car isn't the quietest, but it handles well on reasonable - or better - road surfaces. Make sure to keep the tires and wheels regularly balanced and rotated. If you're a light-footed driver, you'll be pleased with the great MPG. On a recent 280-mile road trip, I got an impressive 41 MPG. The cargo space is fantastic for its small size, and the seats are comfortable. While the acceleration isn't the best, that's not the main reason to own one of these cars. In terms of reliability, it's been excellent, with the exception of a small A/C leak in June 2019. The original Dunlop tires lasted an impressive 63,000 miles and have since been replaced with Yokohama tires. As of June 2022, the overall MPG is 37.2 for all driving. Although as of June 2023, the overall MPG has decreased to about 33, it's important to note that I'm not driving nearly as much as I once did. Recently, I replaced the rear shock absorbers at 97,000 miles, but the car is otherwise doing well. The car has now reached 100,000 miles and continues to run well.

  3. Furman Kertzmann 2024-10-02

I bought this car earlier this month and have been enjoying it so far. While the city mileage is a bit lower than listed and the road noise is a bit louder than expected (though I knew it wouldn't be stellar), I'm pleased with the storage space and comfortable front seats. It handled the surprise snow we had in town like a champ, while other folks were struggling to stay on the road. Overall, I find the visibility to be good and it's a fun car to drive.

  4. Marcelo Little 2024-09-23

Clean, comfortable and cute! Very huge cargo capacity! Well finished interior! Sunny disposition! SOLD, MARCH 2017

  5. Warren Cartwright 2024-08-04

The 2013 Honda Fit is a great car that has served us well for 9 years. It was designed to be a reliable and affordable vehicle, with a price tag of around $15K out the door. We use it as a lightweight tow vehicle for our RV, and the manual transmission is perfect for that purpose. The car has consistently delivered high fuel economy, with mpg in the high 30s and even low 40s on some trips. We have had virtually no need for repairs during our ownership. While it may not be the most comfortable or quiet car we've owned, it certainly gets the job done without any frills. If it were still in production, we would buy it again without hesitation!
