1994 Ford F-250 problems
The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 1994 Ford F-250 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 1994 Ford F-250, several common problems have been identified:
- Power Loss and Hesitation: Another prevalent problem is related to power loss, stumbling, and hesitation in the engine. Symptoms include sluggish performance, backfiring, and struggling to maintain speed, especially under load. Diagnostic trouble codes like MAF/VAF out of range, converter clutch error, and fuel control system faults have been associated with this issue.
- Turbocharger Up-Pipes Leaks: For diesel models like the 7.3L Powerstroke, turbocharger up-pipes developing leaks over time is a common concern. These leaks can lead to a loss of boost, increased Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT’s), and reduced engine performance.
- Camshaft Position Sensor Failures: Camshaft position sensor failures are another issue to watch out for. While this is a DIY repair and relatively inexpensive to fix, it can cause engine performance issues if not addressed promptly.
- Transmission Problems: The automatic transmission in the 1994 F-250, particularly the E40D transmission, may require upgrades if significant power modifications are made to the engine. Upgrading the transmission becomes necessary to handle the increased power effectively.
These problems can impact the performance, reliability, and longevity of the 1994 Ford F-250. Owners experiencing these issues should consider proper diagnosis and timely repairs to ensure the vehicle operates smoothly.

- Summary: IN AUGUST, 2009, MY FORD TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED AND PLUGGED IN TO WARM THE ENGINE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO PUT THE FIRE OUT AND I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED WITH THE INTENTION OF GETTING IT REPAIRED. I WROTE TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY'S CLAIMS DEPARTMENT TO INFORM THEM WHAT HAPPENED, INCLUDING PICTURES, AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AVAILABLE TO THEM FOR INSPECTION. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT "INVOLVED IN ANY OPEN RECALLS THAT WOULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES DESCRIBED." IN NOVEMBER, 2009, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THE RECALL LETTER DESCRIBES PRECISELY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. IT STATES, IN PART, "FORD CANNOT BE CONFIDENT THAT OVER MANY YEARS IN SERVICE, A SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WILL NOT LEAK BRAKE FLUID, POSING THE RISK OF A FIRE. THIS CONDITION MAY OCCUR EITHER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OR WHEN IT IS BEING OPERATED." AFTER WRITING TO THE FORD CLAIMS DEPARTMENT AGAIN, ASKING FOR A RE-EVALUATION OF THIS PROBLEM, THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER ME ANY ASSISTANCE. THEY NEVER EXAMINED MY TRUCK, THEREFORE, THEY CANNOT POSSIBLY DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THERE HAS BEEN NO EFFORT ON FORD'S PART TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR REMEDY MY SITUATION, YET, I NOW RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE (MARCH, 2010) REGARDING POSSIBILITY OF FIRE TO THIS VEHICLE! *TR

WHEN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE INSTEAD OF WORKING THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSE TO THE BRAKE PETAL WOULD JUST BOTTOM OUT AND THAT WOULD RESULT IN FAILURE TO STOP THE TRUCK. THE RESULT OF WHICH CAUSED MORE THAN A FEW CRASHES WITH THE TRUCK. MY EMPLOYER'S BROTHER WAS A MECHANIC FOR A FORD DEALERSHIP AND TOLD ME THAT FORD HAD SENT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE ANTI LOCK COMPUTER ON MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLE'S OF THAT MODEL YEAR SAYING THAT IF A VEHICLE CAME IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE TO CHECK THE NUMBER OF THE COMPUTER AND IF IT WAS ANY DIFFERENT THAN ONE CERTAIN NUMBER. TO REPLACE IT WITH OUT THE OWNER KNOWING IT WAS REPLACED. SEEING AS I DO ALL THE WORK ON MY VEHICLE'S MYSELF MY TRUCK NEVER SAW ANY DEALER FOR REPAIRS AS MY 5/60 WARRANTY DID NOT LAST ME MORE THAN 2.5 YEARS. AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE DURING THOSE 2.5 YEARS EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM. IS THERE ANY WAY FOR YOU PEOPLE TO CHECK INTO THIS NOTICE TO SEE IF IT IS TRUE? THE RESULT OF THESE CRASHES WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM HAS CAUSED MY INSURANCE RATES TO RISE TO A RIDICULOUS FIGURE. I KNOW IT COULD BE SAID IT IS JUST THE WAY I DRIVE. HOWEVER I HAVE DRIVING MANY A COMPANY VEHICLE IN MY MANY YEARS IN THE CONSTRUCTION TRADE. FROM PICKUPS TO DUMP TRUCKS TOWING BULLDOZERS AND NEVER HAD ANY ACCIDENTS WITH A COMPANY TRUCK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO THE FIRE. A TRAILER PARKED NEXT TO IT ALSO SUFFERED EXTENSIVE FIRE DAMAGE. THE FIRE CHIEF STATED THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. BASED ON BURN AND SMOKE PATTERNS, HE STATED THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE DRIVER?S SIDE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE FIREWALL AND THE BATTERY. THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH THE LOCATION OF THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SEE NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA05005) MOUNTED ON THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY. THIS PORTION OF THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY WAS NO LONGER VISIBLE AFTER THE FIRE BUT SEVERAL OTHER PARTS NEAR THAT AREA SHOWED SIGNS OF HAVING BEEN EXPOSED TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. 3. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED TO DETERMINE IF THERE WERE ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS. BASED ON THE VIN, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS. A LOCAL DEALER?S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TECHNICIAN STATED THAT SEVERAL OTHER RECALLS HAD BEEN ACCOMPLISHED ON SIMILAR VEHICLES BECAUSE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT FOR SOME REASON THE MANUFACTURER ELECTED NOT TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED HAVING THE PART REPLACED ANYWAYS. THE ADVICE WAS APPRECIATED BUT OBVIOUSLY TOO LATE. A RECALL WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE FIRE, LOSS OF PROPERTY, AND POTENTIAL INJURY/DEATH.*CN

The diesel is a great motor. I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any problems with it. It sounds like it's both comfortable and fun to drive. I even heard that you pulled your brother's Chevy (TSK TSK) out of a mudhole in idle! That's impressive!

Hi there! I noticed that there is a small transmission leak, but other than that, everything seems to be working just fine. It looks like this vehicle has been primarily used for trailer towing.

Great truck! Although the fuel efficiency isn't the best, it's a full-size truck so who really cares? The power is excellent; it may not be the fastest, but it can pull anything you need it to. I purchased this truck last month with 90k miles and it still runs great with no problems. If I had to suggest an improvement, it would be to bump up the three-speed transmission to four or five, but overall it does everything it was meant to and more.

I'm so glad I bought this truck! It had previously pulled a 14,000lb trailer every day before I purchased it, and even though I had to rebuild the transmission at 190k, it has been smooth sailing since then. With the peppy 5.8L engine, it can still pull a full size van on the trailer at 65mph without slowing down on hills, and I always get a consistent 14-16 MPG. Although the body is rusty now, the truck still feels new from the driver's seat. I absolutely love my big white beast and think it's a much better truck than my '02 c2500 Chevy. I only wish Ford still made this exact truck!

You've had this truck for 8 years and counting and it's been great! Your truck has the 7.3L turbo diesel with 190 hp@3000rpm and it's been a great companion.

This truck has had some quality issues and engineering problems as a work vehicle. Unfortunately, from day one, the front brakes would stick and Ford was unable to fix them. Additionally, from 40K miles, there were leaks in various places such as the valve guides, main seal, A/C compressor, rear axle, pinion seal, clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder, and a rusted gas tank. The engine bay is cluttered and can be difficult to work on, and the fuel filter is in a challenging spot for replacement. The truck also experiences poor torque from a standing start. There have been other issues that seem to be the result of Ford trying new ideas and materials that didn't work out. However, we appreciate your feedback and will work to improve our products in the future.

The truck is great! Although the mileage is not the best, it more than makes up for it with its impressive power and torque.

I purchased this vehicle used with 58k miles on it. It has been reliable so far, but unfortunately, it does not get great gas mileage, only 7-10mpg when empty. Additionally, the power I was expecting from the 460 engine was not quite there. However, I have made some modifications such as adding a K&N filter and a 3
