2018 Honda Fit problems
The Honda Fit (Japanese: ホンダ・フィット, Hepburn: Honda Fitto) or Honda Jazz is a small car manufactured and marketed by Honda since 2001 over four generations. It has a five-door hatchback body style and is considered a supermini in the United Kingdom, a subcompact car in the United States, and a light car in Australia. Marketed worldwide and manufactured at ten plants in eight countries, sales reached almost 5 million by mid-2013. Honda uses the "Jazz" nameplate in Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and India; and "Fit" in Japan, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan and the Americas.
Sharing Honda's global small car platform with the City, Airwave, first-generation Mobilio, Freed and HR-V/Vezel, the Fit is noted for its one-box or monospace design; forward-located fuel tank; configurable seats that fold in several ways to accommodate cargo in varying shapes and sizes— and cargo volume competitive to larger vehicles.
Honda released hybrid petrol-electric versions of the Fit in Japan in October 2010 and in Europe in early 2011. In 2012, Honda released the Fit EV, a limited-production all-electric version based on the second-generation model in the United States and Japan, and was widely regarded as a compliance car.
The fourth-generation model released in 2019 is currently sold in Japan, Europe, China, Taiwan, South Africa, Brunei and Singapore. Starting from 2020, the model was phased out in most Southeast Asian and Latin American countries to be replaced by the larger City Hatchback, while it was withdrawn entirely from the North American market due to falling demand within the subcompact segment.

Common 2018 Honda Fit problems
The Honda Fit, a popular subcompact car, has been known for its reliability and versatility. However, like any vehicle, it has some common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the issues based on complaints from Honda Fit 2018 owners:
- Uncomfortable seats: According to numerous reports, the Fit interior isn't a comfortable place to be. Many drivers have experienced neck and back pains due to flat and unsupportive seats. Some people had to buy seat cushions and headrests to address this problem.
- Starter failure: The 2015 Fit had difficulties with its starter failing at around 46,000 miles. Some reports said that their Fit would fail to start intermittently. In some cases, drivers used a jump start battery pack to get the engine running.
- Fuel filler door doesn't open: Owners of 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014 Honda Fits have complained that their fuel door refuses to open. You have to get a revised fuel fill push lifter from Honda to fix this issue.
- Transmission problems: Some Honda Fit models, particularly the earlier ones (2007-2008), have experienced issues with the automatic transmission, such as harsh shifting or transmission failure.
- Engine problems: Issues such as excessive oil consumption and engine misfires have been reported, notably in the 2009-2013 models. The 2015 and 2016 models also faced recalls due to potential engine failures caused by connecting rod bolts that could loosen.
- Water leaks: Some Fits, especially in the 2009-2013 range, have been known to develop leaks into the interior, often due to issues with the door seals or the air conditioning system.
- Suspension issues: Complaints about premature wear of suspension components, such as shock absorbers and struts, have surfaced, especially in the 2007-2013 models.
- Dashboard warning lights: The 2015-2016 models have had issues with various dashboard warning lights illuminating due to electrical issues.
- Electric power steering failure: The 2007-2013 Honda Fit models have seen complaints about the electric power steering, which can fail and significantly increase steering effort.
While these issues have been reported, it's important to note that the Honda Fit is generally considered a reliable vehicle. Regular maintenance and care can help prevent many of these problems.
What is the most common problem with Honda Fit?
Many drivers have reported experiencing back and neck pain when driving their Honda Fit for long hours. Most point to the model's head restraints as the culprit because they're inclined forward, forcing the driver's head to tilt forward. Several drivers have also complained that the seats feel flat and unsupportive.
Does a 2018 Honda Fit have a CVT transmission?
Featuring a 1.5L 4 Cylinder Engine and a CVT transmission, the 2018 Honda Fit is sporty enough to have fun in but comfortable enough to use on your daily commute. 2018 Honda Fit is a spacious vehicle with enough seats for five people. The transmission was built with getting the highest fuel rating possible in mind.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-19
- VIN: 3HGGK5G87JM
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Check engine light with Code P219A. Honda dealer performed a cylinder A/F Imbalance test and recommended that the Fuel injectors be replaced. This appears to be a common problem with Honda Fits. The injectors are just as bad the recalled 30520-5R0-013 injectors. Honda claims the 2018 vehicles do not have those injectors. I beleive this vehicle has the same defective 30520-5R0-013 injectors.

Other car makes and models from them have recalls with these exact issues except mine but it is the exact same issue. This has been an ongoing issue since I bought the car back in 2017 but the car was finally able to consistently make the noise enough to be diagnosed.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-16
- VIN: 3HGGK5H93JM
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Multiple systems failure simultaneously. Lane Keep assist system, adaptive cruise control, braking system failure and automatic emergency braking as well as forward collision warning. This appears to be due to some fault within the system that multiple owners experience — many mentions of this issue in online forums. When taken to Honda they cannot even determine why but just start suggesting replacement of various systems to include the camera/radar but cannot guarantee this will fix. This is a safety issue and happens through no fault of the vehicle owner it just pops on one day and remains intermittent.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-26
- VIN: 3HGGK5H43JM
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I received notification of a recall regarding the fuel pump on my 2018 Honda FIT. Now, six months later, I contacted my local dealership to get other work done and asked, again, for the recall work to be done. Honda refuses to do the work or even tell me when it will be able to do the work on my car to correct the problem. I use my car every day for my work, and I am increasingly concerned that my car will fail, leaving me unable to work without the added expense of getting a rental car. Six months should be plenty of time to, at the very least, figure out when they will be able to do the work.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

- Summary: Car is not running properly. Idling very poorly. Check engine light is on. Check engine light code is P0300, P0301, P0304. Honda has issued extended warranty for the same make/model(2018 Honda fit). My car's VIN is not included. Spoke with Honda corporate. No explanation for this.
STEERING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-16
- VIN: 3HGGK5H47JM
- Components: STEERING,ENGINE
- Summary: VSA, power steering, engine light, and tire sensor light all came on at once. The car was not steering properly. I took the car in May 16, 2024, and they determined that a carbon buildup in the engine was the cause, and said the cylinder also had a misfire. They also said that the car needed a software update. I asked about the recall, because the recall letter I got in the mail states that if the engine light comes on, then it is eligible for repair. But they refused to repair it, claiming that the issue was only due to the carbon buildup, and said they have no parts available. However on my invoice when picking up the car, they listed the recall as if it were part of the repairs. I asked, just to verify, if they repaired it and they said no. I called the Honda number on my recall letter, and they spoke with the main manager at the dealership and told me that they determined the issue with my car wasn't due to the fuel pump recall. So do I have to drive my car until I have issues/until the engine is damaged by this safety issue? That doesn't make sense.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-08-10
- VIN: 3HGGK5H67JM
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Honda Fit. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH, there was an abnormal burning odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. Additionally, there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to be diagnosed and it was determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that approximately a year later the vehicle was stalling occasionally. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the stalling reoccurred. The contact had recently received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) and drove the vehicle back to the same dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
- VIN: 3HGGK5G60JM
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Recently, our check engine light came on. We had the code tested and it came up with cylinder misfiring(P0300). Upon doing some digging I noticed that Honda has issued an extended warranty of 10 years 150,000 miles for 2018 Honda Fits experiencing the same code but for some reason mine's not included. I'm happy to bring it to a dealership to confirm the codes but if it is that same issue I would like to know that it will be treated like all these other 2018 Honda Fits. I've tried to get this resolution from Honda but have gotten no help.

Hi there! I wanted to share some feedback on my experience with the car. I'm 5.6' and unfortunately, I found the seat to be uncomfortable even when adjusted as far back as possible. Additionally, when the seat is adjusted to the highest position, it's difficult to see the front of the car when parking. Getting in and out of the car was also a bit of a challenge with the seating positions adjusted to the max levels. Another minor issue I encountered was the open tank level being positioned in a way that requires me to open the car door and get halfway out to reach it. Lastly, I noticed that the windshield wipers only clean half of the windows, both front and back. Additionally, the heaters were slow to come on even when set to max output. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my feedback!

I really love my car - the size, the color, and the price were all perfect for me. However, I have had some issues with the fuel injectors, which caused hesitation and the engine light to come on. Although this was frustrating, I am grateful that I purchased an extended warranty, which covered the cost of the repairs. Unfortunately, the car has started to hesitate again, but I am confident that the warranty will cover any necessary repairs. It's worth noting that the repairs have been quite costly, but I am still happy with my purchase overall.

Although this is a nice enough small car, I understand that the technology can be frustrating. It can take some time to get used to all the features and functions. I do wish it had a CD player, but I have found that using an iPod is a good alternative. While the backup camera may not be the clearest, it can still be helpful. Overall, I have had some challenges with the car, but I am hopeful that with time and practice, I will get the hang of it.
Koby Spinka 2024-06-16
Although I initially liked the 2018 Honda Fit with leather interior, my test drive experience left me with a migraine headache that lasted for four days. I also experienced a headache during my half-hour test drive of a 2018 Fit with cloth interior, although it was not as severe. As a result, I have decided to explore other brands and will not be purchasing a Honda Fit.
Rodrigo Kuhn 2024-05-16
If you're looking for an affordable option, the Honda Fit is definitely worth considering. I've owned three of them and while I've noticed a slight decrease in quality with each new generation, it's still a reliable choice. It can be a bit uncomfortable to get into, and in moderately-high winds it can feel a bit unstable (which may not be for everyone). However, it's important to note that no car is completely immune to the effects of strong winds. Lastly, please be cautious when driving near large semi-trucks and trailers.
