2015 Honda Crosstour problems

The Honda Crosstour (initially branded the Accord Crosstour) is a mid-size crossover SUV with a sloping rear roofline manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda. It is based on the North American eighth-generation Accord. Sales began in November 2009 for the 2010 model year, and the vehicle was discontinued after the 2015 model year due to slow sales.

Design

The Crosstour was marketed as a "hatchback"/"wagon" variation of the Accord and shared the same platform. The Crosstour was powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine (choice of either front-wheel or all-wheel drive) or 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine (front-wheel drive only), with prices that started at $29,670, above those of the Accord sedan (which started at under $23,000). For the 2012 model year, Honda removed the "Accord" prefix, making the name just "Crosstour", and gave its front grille a restyle. A four-cylinder engine for front-wheel drive models was released in late 2011 and put on sale in early 2012.

The Crosstour was a direct competitor to the Toyota Venza, a crossover wagon based upon the Accord's perennial competitor, the Camry. And like the Venza, which was meant to replace the Camry wagon, the Crosstour was considered a successor to the Accord wagon.

In terms of positioning, the Crosstour slotted between the compact CR-V and fullsize Pilot in Honda's crossover SUV lineup, Compared to the Pilot, the Crosstour was longer but had two rows of seating compared to the Pilot's three and had approximately 50 cubic feet less interior space.

The Crosstour was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Russia. Guangqi Honda built and marketed the Crosstour in China.

Common 2015 Honda Crosstour problems

The Honda Crosstour 2015, like any other vehicle, has its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the issues that have been noted:

  • Brake wear and brake noise: Some owners of the 2015 Honda Crosstour have reported premature brake wear and brake noise, which may require earlier than normal replacement. This can be a safety concern, as proper brake function is crucial for the vehicle's safe operation.
  • Transmission issues: Transmission problems, particularly with automatic transmissions, have been reported by some owners. These issues can manifest as shifting delays or harsh shifting, which can affect the vehicle's drivability and overall performance.
  • Starter failure: A few owners have reported starter failure, which can cause the starter to grind or fail to start the engine altogether. This can be an inconvenience, especially if it occurs unexpectedly and leaves the driver stranded.
  • Recalled airbags: The 2015 Honda Crosstour has been subject to recalls related to airbag issues. While not necessarily a common problem, it is essential to address any recalls promptly to ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.

It is worth noting that despite these issues, the Honda Crosstour has generally been considered a reliable vehicle, especially in models from 2016 onwards. Regular maintenance and addressing concerns as they arise can help ensure the Crosstour remains a dependable and satisfying choice for many drivers.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-26
  • VIN: 5J6TF2H59FL
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I was coming to a stop at a curb and was braking to reduce speed and stop. With my foot in the brake the car began accelerating and lunged forward. I quickly pulled my foot off the brake and pressed the brake again and this time it stopped. This is the second time this has happened in this car. This behavior is extremely unsafe and makes me reluctant to drive the car again. Had someone or something been in my direct path I would have certainly hit it. I have not been able to reproduce the issue and it has not been inspected by a mechanic at this point. There were no warning lights, sensors, or sounds.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-10
  • VIN: 5J6TF2H57FL
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The paint started peeling off of my car slowly in small sections down both sides of my hatchback rear window over 2 years ago I took it into my local Honda dealership last year and was told there was no recall even though I find evidence to the contrary online. Many other white pearl colored Honda owners are having the same issue. I was told there may be a factory warranty extension, but when I called to inquire, I was told my car was not part of that extension. Subsequently two years later, the paint is now peeled, completely off the entire surround of the back glass along with a 6 x 7“ patch Across the bottom of hatch door on right hand side of release handle. Also with a bubbling up of double that size, seemingly ready to start peeling.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-11-21
  • VIN: 5J6TF2H51FL
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I have a 2015 Honda Accord Crosstour, that was purchased in June 2022and since November 2022 , every few attempts, the car fails to start and, at times, grinds. This is a known problem under Honda Service Bulletin 16-002. I expect for the problem to be fixed and it has not. The starter was replaced, and it is still doing it. There is a second part to attempt to fix the problem, but Honda will not do it. Unfortunately, Honda has not been forced to address this problem and make customers whole fully. I have been stranded several times with two young children waiting for the car to start. Sometimes it starts, and sometimes it doesn't. As an owner of 3 Hondas, I will never buy another Honda again. I feel duped and defrauded.

CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AND THEY AGREED TO PAINT THE AFFECTED AREA UNDER A " IN GOOD FAITH " WHERE THEY PAID 70% AND WE PAID 30%. A MONTH OR SO AFTER THE CAR WAS RETURNED I FOUND A WHOLE SHEET OF PAINT COMING OFF THE HATCHBACK. AGAIN THEY AGREED TO A IN GOOD FAITH REPAIR. I JUST WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE ISSUES WERE EXTENDED TO OTHER AREAS. AT THIS TIME THE BILL IS $1700 THIS TIME AND $600 FOR THE PREVIOUS TIME. THE WHOLE CAR IS STILL NOT GOING TO BE COMPLETELY PAINTED. THIS IS THE SAME PAINT WAS ON OTHER HONDA MODELS WHICH WERE GIVEN A EXTENDED PAINT WARRANTY. IT IS A WHITE PEARL. MY FEELING IS THAT THIS WAS THE LAST YEAR THAT THIS MODEL WAS PRODUCED AND THAT IS WHY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS NOT GIVEN TO OUR VEHICLE.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-11-17
  • VIN: 5J6TF2H50FL
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: WHEN PRESSING THE THROTTLE DURING LOW SPEEDS, THE CAR HESITATES WITH NO CHANGE TO RPM AND NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE TO PRODUCE POWER TO INCREASE VEHICLE SPEED. IN ORDER TO OVERCOME THE HESITATION, I HAVE TO FULLY DISENGAGE MY RIGHT FOOT FROM THE THROTTLE AND PRESS THE THROTTLE AGAIN IN ORDER FOR THE ENGINE TO RESPOND TO MY COMMAND AND PROVIDE POWER. THIS SOLUTION DOES NOT ALWAYS RECTIFY THE PROBLEM TO WHERE SOMETIMES I JUST WAIT FOR THE CAR TO PICK UP ON MY COMMAND TO INCREASE SPEED. THIS OCCURS MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN NOVEMBER OF 2015. THIS FAULT INTRODUCE A SAFETY CONDITION WHILE DRIVING. ONE EXAMPLE: 1) AT STOP LIGHTS WHEN GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT, THE CAR RESPONDS NORMAL AND PRODUCES POWER, BUT SECONDS LATER THE VEHICLE POWER IS NON-EXIST (AS DESCRIBED ABOVE) AND THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE SINCE THEY WOULD NOT EXPECT MY VEHICLE TO HAVE SUCH ABRUPT LOSS IN SPEED. ALSO, KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAVE NO INTENTION OF USING MY BRAKES SINCE THERE IS NO NEED FOR ME TO APPLY MY BRAKES SO THE TAILING DRIVERS WOULD NOT GET THE IDEA TO SLOW DOWN AS THEY DO NOT SEE MY BRAKE LIGHTS

Negative 2015 Honda Crosstour car reviews

  1. Isom Little 2024-08-25

The ride and feel of the car is amazing. It's a quiet ride and the sound system is good. The AWD is great and with good tires, it's a tank in the snow. Although I had some issues with the backup camera and starter, the dealer was able to replace them. Unfortunately, the engine blew at 79,500 miles, and despite being under a mileage warranty, Honda was unable to help me due to being 9 days out of the extended warranty. It was a frustrating experience, but I still appreciate the positive aspects of the car. Thank you for your understanding.

  2. Torey Fisher 2024-06-02

NEW UP DATE: Hi there! As an owner of this vehicle for a couple of years now, I wanted to share my experience with you. While I still appreciate the features of this utility sedan, I have noticed that the cost of ownership is higher than what I expected from a Honda vehicle. The brake pads need to be replaced about twice a year, and the axel has worn out twice already, which is something I have never experienced with any other car I've owned. The starter and push button ignition have also failed twice, and the Bluetooth freezes often, making it difficult to make calls or change music. However, I do want to note that I am an active family man who enjoys road trips and cycling, and this car has been a great fit for my lifestyle. I think this is a car that many people may have overlooked, but once it's out of production, people will look back and appreciate it for what it is. Fortunately, it is not a high demand vehicle, so I was able to get a great deal to move the inventory from the dealer. I hope this helps you make an informed decision about your next car purchase. Thanks for reading!I really like the idea of having a wagon or hatchback to load our gear and go. This vehicle drives well and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything that we like to do. The best part is that it has better gas mileage and a more comfortable ride. There's plenty of room in the front as well as for the back seat passengers. However, the roof line may be a bit low for tall people in the back. The cargo space is perfect for what we do and the hidden compartments are a nice touch. I opted for the roof rack for bikes, which can be a bit noisy with the roof open, but when you close the sliding roof liner, the interior is very quiet, especially compared to the Pilot or the Tacoma I drove. The only two things that I don't care for are the audio sound, as the speakers are weak and don't have great sound quality, and the fact that it's nearly impossible to get a 2

Positive 2015 Honda Crosstour car reviews

  1. Vladimir Waelchi 2024-11-08

Firstly, I never expected to have a Crosstour in my garage. Our family has had great experiences with Honda/Acura, as our other two cars are a 2007 Honda Accord Sedan V6 6MT and a 2014 Acura ILX 2.4 6MT. As a family in our late 20s with no kids yet, we wanted a hatchback for strollers and other items as they start coming. I am not a fan of the current trend of small I4s (DI Turbo or N/A) and/or CVTs powering family crossovers. We have always loved the performance and delivery of the V6, which is why we were set on having one in our family hauler. I do all the maintenance myself and don't really want to jump on the Direct Injected and/or turbo 4 train just yet. We were initially set on a used 16-18 Acura RDX in either the Tech or Advance guise. We had the money, could easily afford it, and were ready to make the purchase. However, after looking around at other makes and models, I was tempted by the excellent CX-5 (underpowered but gorgeous) but then I remembered the Crosstour. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the Accord Crosstour (10-12) but the refreshed interior/exterior really did wonders in my eyes. It had the same Engine (J35) as the RDX and even the same output (HP/lb-ft) but was happy running on regular fuel (huge plus), it had a 6 speed rather than the slushy 5 speed. The 5 speed steered us away from the TSX wagon. It had some neat features like the removable storage trunk area and safety features that we didn't even know it had. At that point, we were like, 'are we seriously considering the Crosstour?' I was aware of the sour car magazine reviews (C/D, MotorTrend and Consumer Reports) based mainly on its subjective looks and its lackluster storage capacity on paper. However, when I read the reviews of those who owned them, they were extremely pleased with their ownership.I test drove a few cars before, but when we test drove a 16 RDX Advance, the interior reminded me of our ILX, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the leather is quite thin. My wife wasn't a fan of the top-heavy feel and preferred the sedans we have. We were a bit picky and didn't like that the ventilated seats didn't seem to do much and that the tech didn't come with fog lights. Additionally, we noticed that the 13-15' RDX didn't have rear vents, and the navigation system on the RDX and Crosstour were nearly identical. We realized that we could get many of the same features in the Crosstour (minus the vented seats and adaptive cruise, which we wouldn't use anyway) for 5k-10k less than the RDX. After comparing the specs between the RDX and Crosstour, we found a used one owner '15 Crosstour EX-L V6 2WD and Navigation in the unique Kona Coffee Metallic. We test drove it, loved it, and left with it. This car is smooth, quiet, planted, and willing. The paddle shifters were something I specifically wanted, and this car hauls and makes all the right sounds when driven aggressively. The Dual Wishbone suspension does take up a bit of space and weight, but after driving the car, it is absolutely worth the penalty. We drive the Crosstour like our sportier sedans, and it's such a pleasure. It has more than enough space for us, and we use it as a buffer car until maybe a third kid pushes us toward larger SUVs. It shares all key components with the RDX and CR-V, so parts will always be plentiful.I really like the 18' wheels on this model, and the thicker rubber adds to the comfortable ride. We are genuinely pleased with this choice. On our longer cruise home, we averaged 31 mpgs, which showed what an excellent comfortable highway cruiser it is. If you're in the market for an off-lease deal, this should be a candidate. Admittedly, its looks aren't for everyone, but its utility and performance surpass many of the current comparable offerings. Surprisingly, we had quite a bit of competition finding this particular setup, with the low mile EX-L V6 2WD Navi's selling quickly. The test drive tells all, and it looks even better in person. I do recommend some items (I'm not affiliated with these products). I installed a S-VCM ($100), which basically gives you all 6 cyl all the time. The VCM system is obnoxious, and the longevity can be negatively affected. I also installed the Kensun 4300k HID (35W) ($60) in the projector housings, which match the performance and color of our '14 ILX's HIDs, and LED interior lights ($15). This is a solid package for the 0-2 kids demographic, and we have no complaints so far. And yes, you can open the rear hatch in your garage without hitting anything. :)

I had a Crosstour that I drove for over 100,000 miles. During the warranty period, I had a few issues with the interior carpet being cut too small at the factory, and the starter and differential needing to be replaced. I then traded it for a 2015 Crosstour, which was the last year Honda made this model. I did all the recommended services, including transmission fluid changes. However, I experienced some vibration issues after the last service, and was told by the service writer that I might need a new transmission. Despite having an extended warranty, I was disappointed to learn that this issue was on a dealer 'service bulletin'. The fix was to change the fluid a few times, but unfortunately, the problem persisted. I later found out that this was a common issue with many Crosstours. Since my first review, I had a few more issues with the radiator and head gasket, which were costly to repair. Despite these challenges, I still had 31 payments left on my car.

I really love my Crosstour! It's such a great car and I enjoy everything about it. It's a shame that Honda doesn't produce it anymore. I'm trying to like the New Accord, but it doesn't have all the features that my Crosstour has, and the monitor looks a bit like an etch a sketch, which is not my favorite. 🤷‍♀️

The car was a pleasure to drive, with a lot of pep. The only issue was difficulty seeing out the back.

I really appreciate it! It's everything I always wanted.
