The Lincoln Continental is a series of mid-sized and full-sized luxury cars produced between 1939 and 2020 by Lincoln, a division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. The model line was introduced following the construction of a personal vehicle for Edsel Ford, who commissioned a coachbuilt 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr convertible, developed as a vacation vehicle to attract potential Lincoln buyers. In what would give the model line its name, the exterior was given European "continental" styling elements, including a rear-mounted spare tire.

The model line has also gone on hiatus three times. From 1949 to 1955, the nameplate was briefly retired. In 1981, the Continental was renamed the Lincoln Town Car to accommodate the 1982 seventh-generation Continental. After 2002, the Continental was retired, largely replaced by the Lincoln MKS in 2009; in 2017, the tenth-generation Continental replaced the MKS.
As part of its entry into full-scale production, the first-generation Continental was the progenitor of an entirely new automotive segment, the personal luxury car. Following World War II, the segment evolved into coupes and convertibles larger than sports cars and grand touring cars with an emphasis on features, styling, and comfort over performance and handling. From 1956 to 1957, the Continental nameplate was the namesake of the short-lived Continental Division, marketing the 1956–1957 Continental Mark II as the worldwide flagship of Ford Motor Company; as a second successor, Ford introduced the Continental Mark series in 1969, produced over six generations to 1998.
Along with the creation of the personal luxury car segment, the Lincoln Continental marked the zenith of several designs in American automotive history. The Continental is the final American vehicle line with a factory-produced V12 engine (1948), the final four-door convertible (1967), and the final model line to undergo downsizing (for the 1980 model year).
American production of the Continental and MKZ, its only two sedans, ended in 2020 thereby making Lincoln a crossover/SUV-only brand in the USA. After it was discontinued in Lincoln's home market, Ford indicated that it planned to move Continental production to China.

- Summary: Bosch Brake Components LLC (Bosch) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement front brake pads, models Bosch QuietCast BC598 and BP765, Bosch Blue BE598 and BE598H, Prostop PD598 and PD765M, Duralast Gold DG598, Duralast MKD598, Stop Master ST598, UltraStop ULT598, UltraLife MX598 and MX765, BrakeBest MKD765, and Prostop Platinum PGD598. These brake pads, manufactured October 1, 2014, to October 31, 2015 are intended for use on 2001-2007 Ford Taurus, 2001-2005 Mercury Sable, 1995-1999 Ford Taurus SHO, 1995-2002 Lincoln Continental, and 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII vehicles. The brake pad shim may shift out of position causing the shim to contact the brake disc resulting in damage to the disc.
- Consequence: A damaged or broken brake disc may reduce a vehicle's braking power, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Bosch will instruct the owners how to have the affected brake pads replaced, free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2016. Owners may contact Bosch customer service at 1-888-715-3616.

Continentals are actually an undervalued car! If you're in the market for a comfortable and reliable car, this may be the one to look for. Plus, mine gets almost 27 mpg on the highway!

Typical of Fords, it started having a few problems after 80,000 miles- the fuel pump needed replacement, the ABS component required attention, and the CD changer stopped working. While the 100,000 mile tune up and maintenance were rather expensive, I expect to keep the car for a few more years. Based on my experience with other Fords, I anticipate that additional repairs between 100,000 miles and 140,000 miles will be routine and minimal.

You're going to love this! I bought this car from a friend who had the lockup solenoid changed in the transmission. She was still having an intermittent problem, but after a few days of driving, it started working fine. And guess what? I haven't had any problems in the last 3 years and 130,000 miles! Plus, it gets 22mpg at 70mph. This car is fast for a small 8 and weighs over 3800 lbs. The only downside is that the clear coat is starting to deteriorate since the black car has been in the sun a lot. But overall, I would definitely own another one!

I love having a Lincoln Continental because it's the smoothest driving car that I have owned. The ride is so smooth and sometimes I have to remind myself to watch my speed. I enjoy the fact that it is so roomy and the best part is the car remembers the difference between driver one and driver two. I also appreciate the fact that I don't have to keep adjusting my seat and other things when I get into the car. The only downside is that it is quite costly on gas. However, I still love taking this car on long trips because it's such an easy ride. I absolutely love my Lincoln!

I have had the car for 2 months and unfortunately, I needed to replace several parts such as the sway bar, stabilizer link, tie rods, rotors, and the tires had to be re-sealed. Additionally, I am now in need of transmission work and I suspect that the stabilizer link was installed incorrectly, so that will need to be fixed as well. Despite these issues, the Continental is a beautiful car both inside and out and I believe it offers great value. However, I would highly recommend getting a second opinion from a trusted dealership or mechanic before making a purchase. It's always better to be safe than sorry!

I've been driving this dealer car for a week now. I gave up my Continentals to have children, so I was a bit hesitant at first, but I must say, I'm loving it! This car has 139k miles on it, but it still feels unreal to drive. The outside may not look like a Continental to me, but the inside is awesome. The dash is laser and beautiful, and the seats are comfortable and nicely trimmed. This Lincoln is beginning to steal my heart like they did years ago. The heater is the best, and the handling is really good. The power is good too, and the mileage is okay for a Lincoln. It drives like a big car but is actually a small car. The only thing that would make it better is heated seats and a sunroof. It's kind of sad that there's no continental kit, but you know it's a Lincoln when you drive it.

I bought a car in 2003 for 112K. It had 166K when I decided to sell it due to the suspension going bad for the third time. I tuned it up once and hadn't changed the oil for a good year or so. I replaced the tires once. The headliner started falling apart around 130K and the air suspension was HORRIBLE. Other than that, nothing fell apart, including the transmission or engine, except for the liner as I mentioned before. I drove it numerous times from North Carolina to Georgia without any problems. The highway gas mileage was great for a fast V8, and the city was about 15-17 depending on how you drive it. If I change the suspension, I would buy it again.

The first few years of owning this car were great. I purchased it with 30k miles on it and it still smelled new! However, things started to go wrong around 80k miles when the tie rods and air ride went out. I decided to purchase coil overs and got rid of the air ride. Since then, I've had to replace the alternator three times, as well as the starter and horn. Unfortunately, the ABS and airbags don't work and it seems like every time I fix the check engine light, something else goes wrong with the car. Despite these issues, I still have a soft spot for my car, even though it's not worth much due to being American-made. I affectionately call it the 'Stinkin' Lincoln'!
