The Chevrolet TrailBlazer (also known as Trailblazer) is a mid-size SUV produced by Chevrolet, a division of General Motors. The nameplate was first used in North America from 2001 to 2008; in 2009, it was replaced by the Traverse, as a crossover SUV. In 2011, production of a newly-redesigned version of the Trailblazer for the Asian and Brazilian markets began.

Blazer trim line (1998)

The TrailBlazer name was first introduced for the 1999 model year as an upscale trim level of the compact 4-door Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. It offered additional features on top of the previously top-of-the-line Chevrolet S-10 Blazer LT trim level, including an AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD player and optional remote cassette player, OnStar, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, side cladding, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, upgraded alloy wheels, a full-size spare tire and wheel, and upgraded cloth seating surfaces with power front bucket seats. Options such as a Bose premium sound system, leather-trimmed seating surfaces with heated front seats, power sunroof, and gold accents for the exterior emblems were all available for the original TrailBlazer trim package. The TrailBlazer trim was discontinued after 2001, when an all-new TrailBlazer model was introduced as a mid-size SUV. Production of the S-10 Blazer overlapped until the 2005 model year.

First generation (KC; 2001)

The first-generation TrailBlazer is based on a truck platform officially known as GMT360, with all models having four-wheel-drive layout as an option with both automatic engagement and the more traditional "Auto," "2-High," "4-High," and "4-Low" gearings, except the SS model which features an all-wheel-drive system. The TrailBlazer features an independent front suspension, and a five-link rear suspension. A G80 locking rear differential is available as an option on all models except for the SS, which has a G86 LSD as standard. An LTZ trim level had upgraded interior features (leather), upgraded sound system (Bose), and alloy wheels. All TrailBlazers came factory-equipped with a detachable towing hitch.

The TrailBlazer was updated in 2005 for the 2006 model year. An updated front fascia on all models (except for the base version) and new interior trim were included with the refresh. The SS received trim-specific front and rear fascias plus color-matched side skirts.

JUST SHORT TIME AFTER IT LOOKED LIKE THE PART WAS NEVER REPLACED JUST TIGHTENED UP AND SHORTLY AFTER WE HAD ALL KINDS OF ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES AND ANYTHING THAT KEEPS THE CAR DRIVEING SAFELY THE BRAKES WENT OUT ON ME SO I CALLED TO SEE WHAT THEY DID AND WHY THEY NEVER FIXED IT THE BERRY NEXT DAY THEY REPO THE CAR AS IF THEY ARE TRYING TO HIDE AND COVER UP THE SCAMS THEY HAVE ON PEOPLE MY KIDS ARE IN THAT CAR DAILY IT SHOULD BE NEVER PASSED THE INSPECTION WE HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR MOST OF THAT. I BELIEVE ALL THE CARS IN THERE LOT NEED TO BE INSPECTED BY A FEDERAL AGENT OR SOMETHING I'VE FOUND ALOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT SAME ISSUES AND I EVEN KNOW OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE BOUGHT FROM THEM ALL WITH THE SAME ISSUES THEY ARE FRAUD AND YOU NEED TO STOP THEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED AND DIES FROM ONE OF THERE FAULTY VEHICLES MY ISSUE HAPPENED AND HAPPENS WHILE DRIVEING THEY ALSO TOOK BOTH OF THE BRAKE CALIBER PINS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE TO THE POINT TO WHERE IT CAME OFF COMPLETELY I ALMOST DIED GUYS THEY ARE BAD PEOPLE TO BUY FROM

  • Summary: ON DECEMBER 7, 2017, I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AND SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE IGNITION, BUT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IDLE AND IN PARK, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS PUTTING ON MY SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE IT REMAINS. GM CENTRAL CLAIMS UNIT WILL NOT RETURN MY VEHICLE TO ME. INSTEAD, THEY OFFERED TO PURCHASE IT FROM ME FOR $3,300. GM CENTRAL CLAIMS UNIT WILL NOT GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE REASON FOR THE AIR BAG MALFUNCTION. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS CONFIDENTIAL.

  • Summary: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE A REAR SIDE CLOSURE LATCH THAT MAY NOT LATCH OR UNLATCH DUE TO CORROSION CAUSED BY ROAD SPLASH, SUCH AS WATER AND ROAD SALT. THESE VEHICLES WERE ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE FOLLOWING STATES: CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
  • Consequence: IF THE DOOR IS NOT LATCHED PROPERLY AND IT GOES UNNOTICED, IT MAY OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IF AN UNBELTED OCCUPANT FELL OUT OF THE VEHICLE, PERSONAL INJURIES COULD OCCUR.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SEAL ALONG THE LOWER PART OF THE ROCKER PANEL TO PREVENT INTRUSION OF CORROSIVE MATERIAL, AND INSPECT THE REAR SIDE CLOSURE LATCHES. FUNCTIONAL LATCHES WILL BE CLEANED AND LUBRICATED. NON-FUNCTIONING LATCHES WILL BE REPLACED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 24, 2006.   • Consequence: AN INOPERATIVE BRAKE LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION OF STOPPING TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING VEHICLES, AND AN INOPERATIVE REAR TURN SIGNAL LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION TO TURN TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING VEHICLES. BOTH OF THESE FAILURES CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

ALSO, THE WIPER MOTOR, CIRCUIT BOARD, AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WILL BE INSPECTED TO SIGNS OF WATER INTRUSION AND/OR CORROSION AND BE REPLACED AS REQUIRED. THE RECALL BEGAN JULY 6, 2004.
