2010 Honda Civic problems
The Honda Civic (Japanese: ホンダ・シビック, Hepburn: Honda Shibikku) is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1972. As of 2023, the Civic is positioned between the Honda Fit/City and Honda Accord in Honda's global car line-up.
The first-generation Civic was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door fastback sedan, followed by a three-door hatchback that September. With a 1,169 cc transverse engine and front-wheel drive like the British Mini, the car provided good interior space despite overall small dimensions. Initially gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly, later iterations have become known for performance and sportiness, especially the Civic Type R, Civic VTi, Civic GTi and Civic SiR/Si.
The Civic has been repeatedly rebadged for international markets, and served as the basis for the Honda CR-X, the Honda CR-X del Sol, the Concerto, the first generation Prelude, the Civic Shuttle (later to become the Orthia) and the CR-V (which, by extension, was used as the basis for the Honda FR-V).
The Civic is one of the all-time best-selling automobiles in the world, with over 27 million units sold since 1972 as of 2021.

Common 2010 Honda Civic problems
The Honda Civic 2010 has been known for several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include noise from the brakes, imperfect paintwork, uneven tire wear, and problems with the power steering, handbrake, and brake system.
- Imperfect Paintwork: Paintwork issues have been reported by some owners, which may require repainting or touch-ups to maintain the car's appearance. This problem is not unique to the Honda Civic 2010 and can be found in many other vehicles as well.
- Uneven Tire Wear: Uneven tire wear can be a sign of alignment or suspension issues. Regular inspections and maintenance can help address this problem and ensure optimal tire performance and longevity.
- Power Steering Problem (2006): Although the 2010 model is not directly affected, early cars from 2006 had a recall due to a problem with the power steering. Affected cars could lose power steering without warning, which Honda resolved by recalling cars and testing the power steering system.
- Handbrake Problem (2006-2007): Honda recalled more than 78,000 cars made between 2005 and 2007 to fix a problem with the handbrake that could result in it releasing while unattended. Recalled cars should have had the handbrake mechanism replaced, so it is essential to check that the work has been carried out on your car.
- Brake Problem (2010): Some cars made in early 2010 were recalled to sort a problem affecting the brake pedal. A pin linking the brake pedal to the braking system was not installed on some cars, causing the brake pedal to depress further than normal and increase stopping distance. Honda resolved the problem by fitting the missing pin.
- Undercoating Problem: Some owners have reported an undercoating problem that makes the car look horrible. The undercoating can look like acid was poured on the hood and trunk, and Honda has refused to do anything about it, especially if it is out of warranty.
- Air Conditioning Problem: Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning, which feels more like a fan than a cooling system. This problem can be particularly noticeable during hot weather, making the car uncomfortable for occupants.
It is essential to thoroughly inspect a Honda Civic 2010 before purchasing it to ensure that these common problems have been addressed and rectified. Regular maintenance and inspections can also help prevent these issues from occurring or worsening over time.

- Summary: The paint on this blue Honda Civic 2010 has been wearing away for years. There’s chips of paint missing on the hood. There is paint wear on the roof in two wide strips, on the trunk all over and the fenders. Also, the roof, when washed by auto carwash, buckles in when being dried so you can tell metal is thin. There’s definitely a defect in these civics I see them all over the place and every blue one almost has worn paint just like mine! Honda had to have done something wrong with these paint jobs, they should repaint them for free!

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-10
- VIN: 2HGFG1B63AH
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I purchased a used Honda Civic last summer. This year I started receiving recall notices. I did not respond until the notice told me that they could provide a loaner because I don't have a ride to drop off and pick up the vehicle. I have made at least 4 attempts over the last couple of months to remedy the airbag situation, but the Honda representatives were not willing to set up a loaner vehicle. Then when they finally seemed like it would happen, I was told that I don't have the right insurance and they won't do it for that reason. I know the company needs to fix millions of these air bags and are trying to save money but, I need them to fix mine too. Now they say they can't accommodate my situation. I am asking Honda to please fix my airbag. The attached flyer states that it is dangerous and deadly and that they would do it. Thank you
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-11
- VIN: JHMFA3F25AS
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Airbag deployed unexpectedly while I was driving through a construction zone - I think it was right when I drove onto a metal construction plate. This would have been very bad if a car was right behind me. I do not have the car for inspection, since due to the cost of replacing the airbag system my insurance declared it a total loss and picked it up for salvage although the car was otherwise in great working condition with no other damage. However I have many pictures of my car from all angles that were taken for insurance purposes. No one else inspected the car in person before it was picked up since my insurance wanted to do a virtual inspection. There were zero warnings of the problem before it happened.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-08-10
- VIN: 2HGFA1F98AH
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I recently read about NHTSA ID Number: 11469938 It made me realize I have the same problem although not as bad. My driver side sun visor is split at the seam. This causes it to hang slightly lower but does not completely block my view of the road. I have never had it inspected/replaced, but after reading about the complaint case above, I am worried the same may happen to my visor in the future (i.e. visor will flop down and block my view of the road).
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-16
- VIN: 19XFA1F56AE
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The sun visor keeps splitting at the seam. When that happens it'll no longer hold itself in place and it will flop down blocking my view. At this point I've replaced both sun visors 3 times since I bought the car, about once every 3 years in the summer. This started happening at about 80,000 miles. Whatever adhesive Honda is using to put these together don't hold up in the heat. You can feel the visors getting soft and bending in the heat until it inevitably breaks. It can't be usage either since both the driver and passenger side fail at about the same rate and the passenger sun visor rarely gets used.

- Summary: DEALERSHIP BOUGHT USED CAR CATCHES FIRE AFTER JUST TWO DAYS OF PURCHASE: I BOUGHT A USED CAR WITH NO WARRANTY ON IT FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP EXACTLY TWO DAYS AGO. WHILE DRIVING ON THE SECOND DAY OF PURCHASE, THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN AND FUMES STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE CAR RIGHT AND AS I STOPPED THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, FLAMES BEGAN TO FLICKER OUT OF THE ENGINE BAY AND WITHIN A MINUTE OR SO, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FIRE! I WAS ABLE TO CALL 911 AND GET OUT OF THE CAR IN TIME, BUT THE CAR'S GONE, COMPLETELY. I AM THINKING THAT THERE MAY BE SOME FAULTS IN THE CAR THAT WERE NOT SPECIFIED IN THE CAR FAX REPORT FROM THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THIS IS NOT AN EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE THAT A CAR SETS IN FIRE. NOW, AS MY INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER THIS TYPE OF FIRE DAMAGE (LIABILITY INSURANCE) I AM STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE AND I DEALER IS NOT READY TO CO-OPERATE. THIS IS A BIG FINANCIAL LOSS FOR ME AND I AM SEEKING HELP TO RECOVER SUCH BIG LOSS. THE EXPERIENCE WAS VERY TRAUMATIZING FOR ME AS WELL FOR MY GIRLFRIEND WHO WAS WITH ME. THIS HAS DEFINITELY LEFT US WITH PTSD.

- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger side air bag inflator, free of charge.
