2015 Honda Civic problems
The Honda Civic (Japanese: ホンダ・シビック, Hepburn: Honda Shibikku) is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1972. As of 2023, the Civic is positioned between the Honda Fit/City and Honda Accord in Honda's global car line-up.
The first-generation Civic was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door fastback sedan, followed by a three-door hatchback that September. With a 1,169 cc transverse engine and front-wheel drive like the British Mini, the car provided good interior space despite overall small dimensions. Initially gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly, later iterations have become known for performance and sportiness, especially the Civic Type R, Civic VTi, Civic GTi and Civic SiR/Si.
The Civic has been repeatedly rebadged for international markets, and served as the basis for the Honda CR-X, the Honda CR-X del Sol, the Concerto, the first generation Prelude, the Civic Shuttle (later to become the Orthia) and the CR-V (which, by extension, was used as the basis for the Honda FR-V).
The Civic is one of the all-time best-selling automobiles in the world, with over 27 million units sold since 1972 as of 2021.

Common 2015 Honda Civic problems
The Honda Civic 2015 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. Here are some of the issues in detail:
- Transmission Shudders: Some drivers have reported occasional transmission shudders while driving. This issue can be caused by a software problem in the continuously variable transmission (CVT) system, which can cause the input-shaft pulley to malfunction.
- Tire Damage During Assembly: Almost 10,000 Honda Civics were recalled due to the possibility of tire damage during the car-assembly process. This issue can lead to tire failure and potential accidents.
- Grinding or Clicking Noise: Some Honda Civic owners have reported a grinding or clicking noise when accelerating, particularly while turning. This issue is caused by a faulty outer CV joint, which can affect either driveshaft and requires replacement of both driveshafts at the same time.
- Faulty 12v Power Socket: Some Honda Civic owners have experienced issues with the 12v power socket, which may refuse to provide power to devices such as mobile phone chargers or dashcams. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including loose connections or damaged wiring, and may require replacement of the socket.
- Refusal to Lock or Unlock: Some Honda Civic owners have reported that their cars refuse to lock or unlock when the weather is cold. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty wiring or damaged locks, and may require replacement of the affected components.
- Cooling System Issues: Some Honda Civic owners have experienced issues with the cooling system, which can cause the malfunction indicator light to illuminate. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including low coolant levels or faulty sensors, and may require replacement of the affected components.
- Keyless Start Issues: Some Honda Civic owners with keyless start systems have reported that their cars refuse to shut off when parked. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty wiring or damaged sensors, and may require replacement of the affected components.
- Transmission Failure: Transmission failure is a common issue in Honda Civics, particularly in the 2001 and 2002 models. This issue can cause the car to lose power or fail to shift gears, and may require replacement of the entire transmission system.
- Clear Coat Peeling: Some Honda Civic owners have reported issues with the clear coat, which can peel off and expose the underlying paint. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including exposure to sunlight or harsh chemicals, and may require repainting of the affected areas.
In summary, the Honda Civic 2015 has several common problems, including faulty airbags, transmission issues, tire damage during assembly, grinding or clicking noises, faulty 12v power sockets, refusal to lock or unlock, cooling system issues, keyless start issues, transmission failure, and clear coat peeling. While some of these issues can be resolved with simple repairs, others may require more extensive work or replacement of affected components.

POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-15
- VIN: 19XFB4F33FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal and brake pedal felt stiff and the vehicle had jolted while depressing the brake pedal before losing automotive power. The check engine, brake, transmission, and several other warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that after accelerating from a stop, the vehicle had jolted a day prior. The contact stated that an AAA service representative attempted to jump-start the vehicle however, the vehicle would lose automotive power once disconnected. The vehicle was towed to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with codes: P1440 and P0AE1. The contact was advised by the independent mechanic that the failure was related to Service Bulletin: 20-030. The local dealer was contacted however advised that contact that the VIN was not included in the Service Bulletin. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-01
- VIN: 19XFB2F59FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Yet another one. A Failed CVT Transmission. Failed completely on the busy freeway. Failure happened despite diligent maintenance and fluid changes as suggested. Failure suddenly leaving me and my family in a very dangerous situation on the road with fast moving traffic, fearing for our safety. This is a very common problem that simply got "patched" with software, not addressing any key hardware issues with the faulty design of the CVT transmission itself. Computer patch is not perfect and still leaves issues with the inevitable failure of these transmissions, sooner or later. Authorized dealership tries to quote a repair at $12,000 as documented. Seemingly a scam or money trap. Honda refuses to cover from what I hear from all other complains researched. There were no indications of imminent failure, as the issue happened suddenly without warning. I ask that this case be re-reviewed and understand the amount of people who are victims to such an obviously ineffective "recall" that didn't fix anything.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-25
- VIN: 19XFB2F80FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Our 2015 Honda Civic started reporting major malfunctions. Almost every error that was possible to report was coming on screen and the vehicle was stuck in "limp" mode and the speed was limited to 40mph. That night, we tried driving it to a mechanic when it suddenly could not accelerate anymore and died in the middle of a road. We are lucky that this happened on a less busy road as opposed to a busy road or highway where we could do nothing to get out of the way of traffic. But it was also a hazard that we were stuck late at night in the middle of nowhere. It had to be towed to a Honda dealer. The dealer then investigated the vehicle and found the issue. They diagnosed the issue as being a transmission failure. There was one recall issued for 2015 Honda Civics in the past and it was specifically for transmission failure issues. The dealer's findings are similar to the nature of the failure described in the previously issued recall. I believe it is possible the issue seen with our specific vehicle could be the same issue as was in the previous recall but our VIN number just happened to not fall in the range. That would make sense to me given that this vehicle is not that old and Civics are not known for having transmission failures at such a low mileage.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
- VIN: 19XFB2F89FE

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-30
- VIN: 19XFB2F9XFE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: All light appeared on the dashboard and we took the vehicle in for inspection. We learned that the VSA Modulator had failed and was a safety risk as it controlled the brakes. This needs to be recalled as the soldering was not done correctly when originally manufactured and this particular part has failed on a high percentage of the hondas that come equipped with the modulator. Please look into recalling this as many drivers have experienced their brakes locking up while driving due to this modulator failing.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
- VIN: 19XFB2F92FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while making a left turn at a low rate of speed, the vehicle abruptly jerked forward and stalled as a loud banging sound emitted from the vehicle without warning. Due to the failure, the contact was forced to place the vehicle into neutral(N) and manually push the vehicle out of the intersection. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000(Power Train) which was linked to the failure. The contact called two dealers (Braman Honda of Palm Beach and Delray Honda) and was informed by both dealer that the vehicle was not a part of the recall. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-24
- VIN: 2HGFG3B81FH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission abruptly failed while traveling down the interstate. With zero prior indications of an issue, drive train power was lost abruptly on all four tires. I was able to safely pull off to the shoulder with my hazards on and come to a stop. Two mechanics confirmed no other issues in the vehicle other than the transmission breaking for no known reason. They presume it is software related and do not recommend I replace the transmission. Therefore the car is totaled even though it is in perfect condition other than the transmission failure.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-29
- VIN: 19XFB2F59FE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Drive axle failure due to corrosion. Left front drive axle completely separated while in use! Fortunately I was only travelling at around 25mph because of how violently the severed ends banged around until the vehicle could be stopped. This would have been horrendous and likely caused severe damage and possibly a traffic accident had the vehicle been traveling at highway speeds. Severe corrosion is found at the point of failure under a molded rubber component that is fixed to the axle shaft. Vehicle had to be towed for repairs. The right axle has the same molded rubber component so as a precaution I've replaced it. I have retained both axles for future inspection.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-01
- VIN: 2HGFB2F72FH
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: Exterior paint is badly bubbling and peeling in multiple locations (around rear window, around rear license plate, top of trunk. I reported issue to the dealership when I took it in for service and they cannot/will not help to repair and cover the cost of repair. Yes, my car is available for inspection upon request.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-27

I recently replaced my Nissan Altima, which had over 100,000 miles on it and was a constant source of disappointment. Over the years, I had to make several repairs, including replacing the power steering, alternator belt, power plug, bottom cover, and headlights. I was worried about spending more money on repairs, so I decided to look into a new car. I was torn between the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic. I heard that Corollas have had some issues with transmission and reliability, so I test drove the Civic and have been a happy customer ever since! I am absolutely thrilled with this car!

I did a lot of research on the internet to find a commuter car and narrowed it down to the Mazda3 or this Honda. The Toyota Corolla would have been a fine choice as well. However, I found the Mazda3 to have better mileage and a sportier drive, but the seats were hard and uncomfortable for me when I put my thick wallet in my hip pocket. On the other hand, the Honda seats are way more comfortable and the ride is a tad softer. It is a well-made car with great fit and finish, exceeding my expectations (the last econobox I bought was 15 years ago). In March 2017, I updated that it is still a great car, getting 36mpg overall and 42mpg on the highway. I still love the car. My only complaint after a year of owning it is that the nav system could be much better. The touch screen will send you nowhere near the spot you put your finger on sometimes, which can be very aggravating. However, the traffic updates are great. In September 2019, I updated that I still own the car with over 50,000 miles on it, and it is still going strong and reliable as ever. The driver's door lock mechanism failed, but other than that, I have had zero problems. I am still getting gas mileage on the highway in the 40 miles per gallon range. I couldn't be happier with the car. In March 2022, I updated that I am still happy with the car. It is getting great gas mileage and has had no repairs. With over 100k miles, it is the most reliable car I have ever owned. In March 2023, I updated that it is still a fantastic little car, getting 38 miles per gallon with absolutely no mechanical difficulty whatsoever. I will never sell it.

I've been a loyal Honda customer since the early 90s. Most of the cars I've owned are still on the road, and instead of trading them in, we've been passing them down to our children and grandchildren. We recently gave our son our Civic and are now looking to replace it with a new Pilot. We also own Honda lawnmowers and generators. I've only had to return to the dealer for a rare recall, and I've never had to make any unscheduled repairs. To me, this is the best recommendation for a car, regardless of its price.

I recently traded in my 2013 EX Coupe for a 2015 model because I was drawn to the refreshed design. However, after owning the 2015 for five months, I find myself missing my 2013. Although the 2015 has more horsepower, I have to press the accelerator down quite hard to get it to accelerate at an acceptable speed. Additionally, the brakes make a loud popping noise when applied, and the driver's side power window is quite noisy when rolling down. While these may seem like minor issues, they were not present in my 2013 model. On the plus side, the 2015 is a stunning car with a glossy black finish and much nicer wheels than the 2013. It has a very sporty look and was definitely worth the investment. If you don't mind the minor quirks, it's a great car to own.

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2015 Civic LX sedan with a 5-speed manual transmission, and I must say, it's been a great daily commuter car for me. I've been getting an average of 37mpg with a mix of city and highway driving, which is fantastic. The manual transmission really makes the most of the 1.8R engine's power band. When I was searching for a new car, I looked at several options, including the Mazda3, Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, and Kia Forte. However, I found that the Civic had the best balance of features, and the dealer gave me a competitive price of $16,250, which sealed the deal for me. Although the Mazda and Ford were more fun to drive, I felt that the Honda was a better-built car. **Update**: After owning the car for a year, my average gas mileage has improved to 38-39mpg, and I even got 42.5mpg on the freeway! The only thing I wish the car had was a bit more horsepower and torque. Thanks for reading!

The 2015 Civic LX has the most comfortable interior in the affordable small car class, which is why I leased it with confidence. Although the transmission or the CVT as it is called may not be for everyone, it is designed to provide a smooth and efficient driving experience. While some may prefer a manual transmission, the CVT offers better fuel efficiency and a more relaxed driving experience. The engine may develop a ticking noise, but this is a common issue with many cars and does not affect the performance. The back-up camera may not be perfect, but it is a useful feature that can help prevent accidents. The suspension may be soft, but it provides a comfortable ride, and the brakes are reliable. Overall, the Civic LX is a stylish and comfortable car that is perfect for those who prioritize comfort and efficiency over performance.
Geoffrey Monahan 2024-09-26
Overall, the 2015 Civic is a great economy car. However, I have experienced an issue with the factory paint on my white Civic. Unfortunately, Honda has acknowledged that it is a factory paint issue but they are unable to fix it. Despite this issue, I still highly recommend the Civic as a reliable and efficient car.
Maxime Lueilwitz 2024-08-23
Despite the EPA rating, I was able to average 39 mpg during the 15 days I had the car, which unfortunately I cannot mention in the Car Details section below. The car has a lot of technology that I wasn't used to, but it was totally awesome to never have to remove the keys from my pocket or bag. That was great because I used to inadvertently drop my keys in hard-to-reach places with my previous car, a 2006 Honda. I can't honestly comment much more because at the 15-day ownership mark, I was unfortunately hit by a drunk driver in an awkward rear/side position at 12:30 PM. While the entire left side of the car must be replaced, I'm still waiting to know if there is further damage that is not visible without a lift. Despite this, I sustained only minor injuries, most likely due to Honda's design of the passenger cabin.

I recently purchased the 2015 model of the Honda Civic EX, but I have noticed that it does not get as good gas mileage as my 2004 model. Despite this, I still have no negative feelings towards Honda. I have been averaging 24-26 mpg in the city, even with careful driving. In August 2016, I noticed that the navigation system was not working properly and the Sirius XM radio had some dead areas. However, I still appreciate the car and have noticed some improvement in the mileage. Although it is not quite up to the ratings on the sticker, I am still happy with my purchase.

To be honest, this car is a great choice for those who mostly drive on the highway. However, if you are like me and mostly drive in town, you may be disappointed with the performance (acceleration) and Bluetooth (hands-free calling). The acceleration with the CVT is quite slow, especially from a standstill, which can be dangerous. Additionally, the hands-free functionality is not up to par. The microphones are located on the console near the air vents, which can make it difficult for the person you are calling to hear you if the A/C is running. Unfortunately, these issues are deal breakers for me. I had higher expectations of Honda.
