2017 Infiniti Q70 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti Q70 and Q70L is a line of mid-size luxury (executive) cars from Nissan luxury division Infiniti. Essentially an update to the Infiniti M series with minor cosmetic changes, the Q70 name was introduced to reflect Infiniti's updated "Q" nomenclature.

First generation

The Chinese model went on sale in 2012.

In 2013, the entire Infiniti line was renamed, with the M sedans becoming the Q70; this reflected the model's relative position in the Infiniti lineup, rather than the engine displacement as had previously been used.

US models went on sale in 2014 model year vehicles. Early models included 3.7, 3.7 AWD, 5.6, 5.6 AWD, Hybrid.

Common 2017 Infiniti Q70 problems

The Infiniti Q70, a luxury sedan produced by the Japanese automaker, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is related to the car's advanced safety features, such as the lane departure warning system and forward collision warning system. Some owners have reported false alarms or malfunctions with these systems, which can be a safety concern while driving.

Another issue reported by some 2017 Q70 owners is related to the car's electronic systems, specifically the infotainment system. Some owners have reported issues with the touch screen freezing or not responding, which can be frustrating and distracting while driving. This issue has been attributed to software glitches, and in some cases, a software update may be necessary to resolve the problem.

Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the car's transmission, specifically related to a shuddering or vibration while shifting. This issue has been attributed to a faulty torque converter, which can be replaced under warranty. However, this issue has been reported more frequently in earlier model years, and it is unclear how many 2017 Q70 owners have experienced this problem.

Despite these issues, the 2017 Q70 has generally been well-received by owners. Many appreciate the car's performance and luxury features, as well as its overall value compared to other luxury sedans. As with any car, regular maintenance and care can help prevent or address issues with the 2017 Q70. Infiniti has also issued several recalls and service bulletins to address known issues with this model year, and owners are encouraged to check their vehicle's recall status and take any necessary actions to address these issues.

It's worth noting that the sample size for reliability data and common issues for the Infiniti Q70 is not as large as it is for its rivals, due to its relatively low popularity in the market. Therefore, it's essential to keep this in mind when evaluating the reliability and common problems of this car.

In summary, the 2017 Infiniti Q70 has been reported to have issues with its advanced safety features, infotainment system, and transmission. However, the car has also been well-received by owners for its performance, luxury features, and value. Regular maintenance and care, as well as staying up-to-date with recalls and service bulletins, can help prevent or address these issues.

In our testing, the 0-60 mph sprint took 5.2 seconds - unremarkable for 420 hp but there's plenty of real-world punch. This is a fast car." "The V8-powered 2018 Infiniti Q70 5.6 LUXE is the one for power junkies, but we also found the V6 to be more than sufficient in acceleration and passing."

Negative 2017 Infiniti Q70 car reviews

  1. Raul Lesch 2024-11-17

Pros and Cons (After driving it for a year) The exterior/interior design still looks very good, even though it hasn't been updated in a while. The Hermosa Blue exterior and graphite interior is a nice color combination. With the Deluxe Touring Package, Premium Package, Technology Package, and Performance Tire & Wheel Package, my car stickered at $63k. However, it doesn't feel like a premium luxury car when compared to other luxury brands. I purchased my car as a lease turn-in with just 30k miles and brand new tires for $28k in Oct. 2018, which was a great deal. The 20-inch wheels really make the car look outstanding. The car is very spacious with huge legroom in the back. The power rear doors are a nice touch, but it would be great if the front doors had them too. The safety features are very nice and the car has been reliable. Infiniti can improve in the following areas to compete with other premium luxury brands: improve ride quality, suspension, and sound insulation. The interior materials, including the dash/door, all buttons, knobs for volume/heated seats, and leather seat quality, could use an upgrade. The doors need to close more solidly and the car needs a power open/close trunk. The car also needs to be 2-3 inches wider. The stereo, even with the Bose 16 speaker option, is still not up to par when compared to other premium stereos. The key fob design needs to be updated and the keyless entry should allow the doors to unlock without pressing a button. The touch screen, navigation graphics, and cameras could also use some improvement.Needs better resolution for the cameras. You get a lot of car for the money as used but it may not be worth buying new. On a positive note, I traded it in for a 2016 BMW 535xi with a sport package and I am very happy with my purchase. If only the Q70L had a better finish and composure, I would have kept it for a long time.

The vehicle has been experiencing hesitation problems, even after being serviced at two different dealerships. Unfortunately, Dealer 1 did not address the issue and claimed it was normal, while Dealer 2 reprogrammed the transmission software and still could not fix the problem. This has been a frustrating experience, especially when the vehicle struggles to accelerate and has poor gas mileage. Additionally, the handling is affected by uneven pavement and the technology is not up to par with the Q50 series. If you are considering this vehicle, it may be worth waiting for the 2021 Q70 which will have some fresh upgrades. It is important to note that in March 2020, the hesitation problem caused an accident and despite attempts to fix the issue, it was never resolved by Infiniti. For safety reasons, I had to get rid of the vehicle in February 2020.

  3. Cullen Pacocha 2024-11-07

I bought this car back in June 2015, but unfortunately, it has been nothing but a problem since day one. The car pulls violently to the left and right when making lane changes at speeds of 60 mph plus, hesitates or bucks at cruising speeds, and the navigation system is off by miles. Additionally, the heated steering wheel gets hot to the point where it's difficult to hold, and the location of the heated steering wheel switch is dangerous, requiring you to take your eyes off the road and bend over to turn it on or off. The ride is not smooth and it's quite loud. I've noticed that even though I use the same fob all the time, the seat is always in a different position when I unlock and start the car. I had to have the battery replaced just three weeks after purchasing the car. In snow, it handles poorly, even in snow mode, and slides all over the road to the point where I stopped driving it when it snows. When I contacted the dealer where I purchased the car, they said there was nothing wrong with it and blamed it on road conditions, which I find hard to believe. Although this car was marketed as a high-end luxury sedan, it has not lived up to my expectations. Despite all of these issues, the dealer's way of taking care of it was to send me a $200.00 gift card.

  4. Craig Fahey 2024-07-28

Despite being a three-time new Infiniti buyer and owner, I have unfortunately had a terrible experience with my current car. From the moment I drove it off the dealer's lot, it has had persistent problems. The A/C whines loudly, the car grabs every rut in the road and flies all over the place, and there is a buzz noise when driving that cannot be fixed. Additionally, the brakes start shaking every 3000 miles and the tires wear out at 18000 miles. Despite my efforts to get these issues resolved, Nissan North America/Infiniti has refused to take any action. While I had high hopes for this luxury car, it has turned out to be a huge waste of my time and money. I am eagerly looking forward to the day when I can trade it in. Infiniti has not yet contacted me to resolve any of the ongoing problems with my car, which I find unacceptable. Despite having driven 46,500 miles, the issues persist, making this the worst car I have ever owned.

You may notice some suspension noise when driving on certain types of roads, particularly chip & seal roads. Unfortunately, this can make for a less than quiet ride.

Positive 2017 Infiniti Q70 car reviews

  1. Durward Hagenes 2024-11-08

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2017 Q70L! It sounds like the cabin is very spacious and the technology is top-notch with all the bells and whistles. While the ride is good, it would be even better if it were a little quieter. Overall, it seems like a nice combination of sporty and luxurious. It's a shame they stopped making them.

  2. Unique Lesch 2024-10-10

I absolutely fell in love with the dark blue car I saw on the showroom floor and knew I had to have it. It was an absolute blast to drive in Colorado, especially on mountain passes. It even handled a foot of snow with ease when I drove up Berthud pass at 11K feet. I leased it for a while, but made the mistake of turning it in for a Porsche Cayanne. However, it was incredibly comfortable for the long haul drive from Denver to Florida, which took 23 hours. Whether it was for everyday city driving or zooming up the mountain, this car was fantastic and I really miss it. I recently turned in my Porsche and purchased a used AWD Q70 with a big V8. I can't wait for it to arrive!

  3. Kayley Hayes 2024-09-26

I'm so happy with my Q70L! I got the sport and deluxe packages, and it's been a hit with everyone who's seen it. The engine is really powerful, and I love the pearl white exterior and java interior. It's such a great looking car, and it's so reliable for the price. I know it gets some bad publicity, but honestly, you can't go wrong with this car.

  4. August Jenkins 2024-09-03

You've got yourself a great car there! It's reliable and comfortable.

  5. Narciso Daniel 2024-08-03

The Q70 has an absolutely stunning interior with excellent fit and finish. The combination of technology and design inside is truly second to none. I'm not sure what the reviewer here is talking about, but in my experience, the engine and ride quality on the Q70 are great. I've been driving a 2015 model for a little over 2 months now and I couldn't be happier with the car. I really appreciate the active noise cancellation feature, and the acceleration is very quick - easily on par with a BMW 335ix in my opinion. Along with the Audi A7, I find the Q70S exterior styling to be the best in class as well, but of course, that's a personal choice. Overall, I would highly recommend this car. For reference, my last car was a 2009 Mercedes C 300 4 Matic (fully loaded), and I also considered the E350 and Acura RLX.
