- Summary: There two incidents where I was driving in the highway and my car died mid driving. It put my life on risk twice. Took it to the mechanic and was told that my car was leaking oil and caused my car to have an engine misfire. My car is un drivable. There were no engine or oil lights that appeared prior to the incident and I always got my regular oil changes and had put in more oil myself. Hyundai refused to pay to the engine replacement even through this is a known issue. I’ve only had the car for two years and it’s under 100k miles.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-19
- VIN: KM8J33A48GU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Purchased a 2016 Hyundai Tucson with approx. 79,000. Was driving with all windows down one day. From the driver side window switch panel, I attempted to roll up the rear, left window.. The window would not roll up. The window rolls down when using the driver’s window switches for the left, rear window, but will not roll up. The rear left window switch will operate the window up and down only. Discovered this problem when going through a drive through car wash and the window would not roll up. Needless to say, the interior of my car got a good cleaning that day.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-17
- VIN: KM8J33A48GU
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Purchased a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson, approx. 79,000 miles. A few weeks later I noticed a rattling in the steering column when driving over railroad tracks, rough roads, etc. When sitting stationary, I could rock the steering wheel back and forth and got a clunking sound. Took to the dealership, they wanted $250 just to diagnose. Did my own investigating. With the car turned on I would hold the steering wheel with one hand and hold the steering shaft with the other and work them in opposite directions. This replicated the clunking and knocking noise I would hear while driving. I determined it was a faulty upper pinch bolt. Replaced the bold and all noise went away. Fast forward a few months later and the sound returned. Slightly at first, then the sound became very pronounced again. Tightened pinch bolt again, went away. Seems to either be a problem with the shaft itself or the upper pinch bolt. Either way, my fear is the steering shaft is going to loosen and fall off of the steering column resulting in a loss of steering and potential accident. Hyundai dealership seems to act clueless about issue.

- Summary: In December 2023 I purchased my first car, a 2016 Hyundai Tucsan Limited Edition. The car had approx. 70k miles. After only 9 months, I noticed I was unable to gain access into the rear passenger side door. I quickly ruled out child locks, faulty fuses, and any other issues as directed in the owners manual. The window is still functional. As of today, 10/10/24 Ive had no luck being able to open the door. The mechanic stated it was an issue with the locking mechanism and quoted us for over $1400/$4000. He stated this is a common occurrence with this model. I find this issue with my newly purchased car, that I keep serviced and in perfect condition to be unacceptable. It is a major safety issue for me and my family. I am in school and work full time and I can not afford this type of repair. This type of issue should be recalled.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-06
- VIN: KM8J33A49GU

- Summary: This is the 2nd window regulator that I’m aware of this car is failing. 3 months ago before buying the car from the dealer they replace the rear passenger side regulator because the window won’t roll down or up. Now 2 weeks ago the front passenger side window stop working and I’m afraid that is the same situation as so many people compliant about this issue on forums and videos online. Also I used to have a 2010 hyundai Tucson and have a problem with the rear passenger door not opening because the latch mechanism and the actuator. Now this 2016 Hyundai Tucson under this VIN number is experiencing the same problem due to a faulty design and cheap plastic products. This car has only over 61000 and can’t believe it have this many issues in the short amount of time. Definitely Hyundai needs to make a recall campaign for this components considering they’re key elements to an egress means of the car on emergency situation. Please help us so many owners to get a response for these issues. Thank you very much.

- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Once I got my AC unit fixed, about 1.5 months after my engine was not performing. My car would not turn over and when it did, it was in limp mode and would not run properly. I had it towed to dealership who could not find the issue until after they took out of the bay and went to move it, it wouldn't start. They replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor and it wasn't covered under the extended warranty. The top engine block only has 10k warranty which is fast approaching. Took car home and when accelerated past 60 car shakes and when i brake car shakes. Now car cabin smells of gas. All cars with KM are having multiple issues. Dealership not calling back regarding gas issue and has not responded to if they touched my tires. Local Mechanic said all my wheels were unbalanced.

- Summary: The car door handles are failing to work properly. Initially (June 2024), the passenger side front door required the handle to be pumped twice before it would open. The door would open correctly from the inside only. That problem was corrected. Now (Aug 2024), the driver side rear door handle has failed and the door cannot be opened from the outside or inside. The precise nature of that issue will be determined tomorrow. In June, I was told by the service advisor at Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala [Florida] that Hyundai is aware of an issue with the functioning of door handles (i.e., the actuator) and has extended the warranty from five to ten years for this issue. I my judgment, this is a major safety issue if a door cannot be opened.

I have to say, this CUV has really surprised me. Coming out of a 2015 Forester XT which I had to send back under the Lemon Law, I was hesitant to try another Subaru. However, after test driving the Tucson three times, I decided to upgrade to the Sport model and it was definitely worth the extra $1700. The blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert with the back up camera, 19

I chose the Tucson primarily because it had all the safety features I was looking for, and many reviewers praised its quietness. While there were other good compact SUVs I considered, most of them lacked at least one of the safety features I wanted. My Tucson has only 2500 miles on the odometer, so I cannot comment on its reliability or maintenance costs. However, I can say that it drives very well. It's agile, peppy, has sporty steering, and rides well. I have not experienced the jerky transmission performance that many reviewers have commented on. Perhaps it's because I don't jump on the throttle when starting out and always pause a bit before shifting into drive from reverse. Wind noise is very low, even at 80 mph. Road noise, on the other hand, can be very loud, depending on the pavement. Perhaps it's due to the 19 inch wheels and low profile tires. The cabin is all black, but the leather seats are comfortable and power adjustable, including the front passenger seat. On a recent drive up 395 with the outside temperature at 114°, the ventilated seats were very nice. The engine had great power, even at 8,000 ft. The mileage was 31.4 mpg for the 595 mile trip with the A/C on all the way. The navigation/entertainment system works fine, but has a steep learning curve. It did not have Apple Play initially, but it does now by download at Hyundai. The BlueLink system has three components: Connected Care, Remote Package, and Guidance Package. All are subscription-based extra costs. I have used them all during the 90-day free trial period. The Guidance Package allows the user to set the Navi destination remotely from Google. It works, but in my humble opinion, it is far too expensive for the benefit, especially since Apple Play is now standard. I cancelled it. The Remote Package has the ability to start and stop the engine and climate system remotely for a smartphone and assist in stolen car recovery. I subscribed for a year, but for my purpose, living in Southern California, it's not worth the cost and I will not renew it.The main features of Connected Care include automatic collision notification and assistance, SOS emergency assistance, and enhanced roadside assistance. I am definitely subscribing to it. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the Tucson and highly recommend it.

This is now my 4th Hyundai - 1 Sonata and 3 Tuscon Limiteds. I keep coming back for a reason! I know most people only write reviews when they have something to complain about, but I wanted to share my positive experience. When a company sells thousands of vehicles and receives less than 100 complaints, that's pretty impressive! I have found that most of the people who complain are chronic complainers, and having owned a couple of ice cream stores, I know this first hand. But let's get back to the review. With all the Hyundai's I have owned, the only things I have had to replace were tires and windshield wipers. They have been great and I WILL continue to buy them.

I'm so glad I purchased this vehicle! It's incredibly quiet and offers features that my previous SUV didn't have, such as rear air vents, rear seat heaters, and front air ventilated seats with heat. The blind spot monitor and panoramic sunroof are also great additions. The turbo provides a nice pick up and the split screen with Nav and radio is very convenient. In my opinion, the styling is beautiful. While there are a few negatives, such as the automatic tailgate lift going off when you walk behind it and the hard plastic on the interior door panels, overall it's a very nice ride. I turned off the lane departure warning and the duo transmission lag wasn't an issue for me. The only thing I miss is the 3D function of the navigation that my Mazda had. All in all, I really like this vehicle!

Updated 9/2017: Hello! I'm happy to report that after some initial difficulties, Hyundai has resolved the transmission issues found in early model Tucsons. Since the most recent major software upgrade, we have not had any problems with our vehicle. While our confidence in the car was initially shaken, we are now cautiously optimistic that we will be able to keep it for the long haul. It's also worth noting that units manufactured after the initial production run did not experience transmission problems to the same degree as the first available units. As we mentioned in our original review, we love the new features and size of this model. If no further problems arise, we will be very content with keeping it as our main family vehicle. We want to love this redesigned Tucson, and while we did experience some issues with the transmission, we are hopeful that they have been resolved. Thank you for your attention. Our friendly advice is that there may be ongoing updates for the life of the vehicle. We do not recommend it to anyone due to the major safety issues that require significant time and energy to fix. We believe that there is a risk of someone getting critically injured in one of these vehicles, which could result in a class action lawsuit.

After driving my current car for over 10 years, I decided to test drive the Tucson. I spent months researching before even stepping foot onto the dealership lots. I was looking for an affordable, safe, fun, and reliable SUV that I could depend on for over a decade. The Tucson reviews were mostly positive, but some mentioned the dreaded DCT and dangerous lag in acceleration. However, I wanted to see for myself if these claims were true and give the Tucson a fair chance. I test drove both a Limited and Sport model for trim level comparison purposes. The Sport model is not as stripped down as you might expect, and you get a lot of bang for your buck in the Limited. Both models have the 1.6L Turbo engine, which is adequate but underpowered. The steering feels light, giving the SUV a sporty drive. The technology is impressive, and the interior feels upscale. However, as previous reviews warned, there are problems with the DCT. This car comes equipped with a Dual Clutch Transmission, which is often associated with reliability problems. During the test drive, when accelerating from a stop, there is a definite 2-4 second lag. There is no get-up-and-go. At the dealership, they will tell you that this is all due to the turbo lag. However, there seems to be more to this issue than meets the eye. The DCT is a hazard, and something Hyundai definitely needs to improve. As noted by other reviewers and those who actually purchased the Tucson, after months of driving, the lag off acceleration only increases. This is a dangerous engineering malfunction. You simply cannot get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Some have claimed that while they are in drive, they experience a feeling like the car is in neutral with the RPM in the red, but there is no movement off the line. I wanted to believe that these claims were not true, but even during the test drive, it was impossible to turn a blind eye to the obvious issue. It is not one to be overlooked if safety and reliability are top priorities for you.If you're considering a Hyundai Tucson, I would recommend waiting until the current issues are resolved in later models or exploring other SUV options. I personally chose to look elsewhere for a vehicle due to concerns about the DCT. Best of luck with your car search!

I purchased my 2016 1.6L Turbo DCT Tucson Limited with the Ultimate package on May 16, 2016. Unfortunately, I experienced a few incidents where the car did not respond as expected. However, I immediately took it to the dealership and they were able to resolve the issue. While it was an inconvenience, I appreciate the prompt and professional service I received from the dealership. They kept me informed throughout the process and I am confident that my Tucson is now in great working condition. Thank you for your attention to this matter.I really enjoyed the time I had with my Tucson, and I was particularly impressed with the interior, comfort, and technology. Although I did have some issues with it, I don't regret my purchase. However, I was disappointed to learn about the known issues with the 2016 Tucson and the fact that the 2017 model has the same problem. I hope that a solution can be found soon, as I would hate to have to deal with any further problems.

I am experiencing a significant delay when shifting through gears 1 to 4 while accelerating, which has caused the transmission to overheat and display a safety message. Despite having only 5719 miles on the vehicle, this is my fourth time taking it back to the dealership for service. The issue occurs unpredictably, making me feel unsafe while driving, especially in stop-and-go traffic or when making turns. I am concerned that this delay could cause an accident. While I am unsure if the issue is related to the transmission or software, I am confident that this problem needs to be addressed immediately for my safety and the safety of others on the road.

The safety of this car is a concern due to the issues with the dual clutch transmission. The unexpected stalling of the vehicle poses a risk to drivers and their families. It is concerning that there has not been a recall on this vehicle despite the widespread reports of this issue. I have brought my vehicle to the dealership for repairs and I am hopeful that they will take appropriate action. In the meantime, I am considering other options such as the Subaru Outback.
