2021 Audi Sq7 problems
The Audi Q7 is a crossover SUV made by the German manufacturer Audi, unveiled in September 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of this seven-seater SUV began in the autumn of 2005 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The Q7 was the first SUV sold by Audi and went on sale in 2006. Later, Audi's second SUV, the Q5, was unveiled as a 2009 model. Audi has since unveiled a third SUV model, the Q3, which went on sale in the third quarter of 2011, and a fourth SUV model, the Q2, which went on sale in November 2016. The Q7 shares a Volkswagen Group MLB platform and chassis with the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg.
The Q7 is the second largest vehicle from Audi, after its exterior size was being surpassed by the Q6 since 2022. While the Q7 has been the flagship SUV in Audi's product portfolio, a top-of-the-line model with a lower roof, called the Audi Q8, was released in 2018.
It was one of the vehicles involved in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, with the company ordered to buy back some of the affected cars manufactured between 2009 and 2012. The Q7 is also subject to hundreds of NTSB complaints with many relating to potentially catastrophic engine failure issues, and a class-action lawsuit related to squealing brakes.

Common 2021 Audi Sq7 problems
The Audi Q7, a luxury midsize SUV, has been known for some recurring issues that owners have reported. While the Q7 is appreciated for its advanced technology and spacious interior, it is essential to be aware of these common problems.
- Misfiring Engine: Misfiring can occur due to faulty ignition coils, spark plugs, or fuel injectors. This issue is more prevalent in the 2007 to 2011 Q7s, causing the vehicle to shudder during idling or acceleration and illuminating the check engine light.
- Knock Sensor: A malfunctioning knock sensor can lead to reduced acceleration and potential engine damage. This problem has been reported in Q7 models ranging from 2007 to 2012, causing the check engine light to come on.
- Front Headrests: Some drivers have reported uncomfortable front headrests that tilt too far forward, causing back pain or neckache. Although the headrest can be tilted further back, some drivers find the range of movement insufficient for comfortable driving.
- Rear Axle: Audi has recalled more than 31,000 vehicles, including the 2021 Q7 model, due to a problem with the rear axles alignment. This misalignment can cause uneven wear on the rear tire, and the repair instructions provided by Audi may not include inspecting the alignment of the rear axle, potentially leading to premature wear.
- Leaking Sunroof: Several vehicle owners have reported sunroof leaks causing electrical problems with radio speakers and other electrical components. This issue is more common in the 2007 Audi Q7 model, and addressing it is crucial for ensuring safety due to the risks of electronics and water.
- Suspension/Shocks: Audi Q7 air suspension systems have common issues such as the suspension warning light coming on, loss of ride height, and noisy sounds from the suspension system. Driving with a faulty air suspension is not recommended, as it can lead to safety issues and more damage to the vehicle.
- Airbag Problems: Some drivers have reported issues with the Audi Q7 airbags, including the airbag light turning on for no reason. A faulty sensor, loose or corroded connections, a faulty clockspring, and a defective airbag control module are potential causes of this issue.
- Oil Leaks from the Timing Chain Cover Area: The Audi 3.0L supercharged V6 engine has earned a reputation for oil leaks, specifically from the upper timing covers. The gasket material used in these covers can become hardened and brittle over time, allowing engine oil to seep out. Replacing the gaskets is usually necessary, which can be a costly and time-consuming job.
These common problems with the Audi Q7, particularly the 2021 model, are based on complaints from owners and should be considered when purchasing or maintaining this vehicle.
