Ford Focus 2018 problems
The Ford Focus is a compact car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1999. It was created under Alexander Trotman's Ford 2000 plan, which aimed to globalize model development and sell one compact vehicle worldwide. The original Focus was primarily designed by Ford of Europe's German and British teams. Production of the fourth generation Focus began in 2018 in Germany and China.
Naming
The decision to name the new car the "Ford Focus" was made in early 1998, as Ford's senior management had been planning to keep the "Escort" nameplate for its new generation of small family cars. A last-minute problem arose in July 1998 when a Cologne court, responding to a case brought by the publisher Burda, ordered Ford to avoid the name "Focus" for the cars in the German market since the name was already taken by one of its magazines (Focus). This eleventh-hour dispute was resolved, however, and the car was launched with the name Focus.
First generation (C170; 1998)
Ford of Europe introduced the Focus in 1998 to the European market as a replacement for the Ford Escort. The Focus Mk 1 was awarded the 1999 European Car of the Year award. The project manager for the Ford Focus at Dunton was Rose Mary Farenden.
Ford of North America began marketing the Focus in September 1999 for the 2000 model year, with some changes from the European version. The car was launched as a three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, and five-door wagon; a five-door hatchback debuted in 2001.
In 2002, Ford launched its highest performance version of the Focus, called the Focus RS. It came with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Duratec RS engine, a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, an AP Racing clutch, and a revolutionary design front suspension strut system called "Revo-knuckle"- as marketed by Ford, Sachs Racing dampers Brembo brakes, 18” O.Z Racing alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and a host of other performance changes, combined with a much more aggressive appearance, and was available only in Ford's Imperial blue. Tickford Engineering won the engineering contract for the research, development and to oversee production of the Mk 1 Focus RS. Tickford made substantial modifications to the base unit, with up to 70% of the base components either updated, re-engineered or completely redesigned. Despite the development being carried out in the United Kingdom, Ford produced the Focus RS in the Saarlouis plant in Germany between 2002 and 2003 making a limited run of 4501 cars only. This original Focus RS was only available in Europe; just under half (2147) of these were sold in the UK.
For decades, in the U.S., small cars like the Focus were seen as a tool to draw in younger buyers looking for a cheap basic transportation and to increase auto makers' fleet average fuel economies to meet U.S. federal standards. Ford was said not to be concerned about losing money on the Focus so the company could sell gas guzzlers for big profits. However, recent sales of new Focuses have been able to maintain lower or overall discounting incentive rates than many competing vehicles in its class. Many industry insiders view cars like the Focus as 'compliance cars' because of their role in helping to bring up the corporate fleet average fuel economy to meet current fuel-economy standards.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-04
- VIN: 1FADP3FE3JL
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: In March 2024, I was driving my Ford Focus when the engine suddenly shut off at a stop light and never restarted. There were no warning lights or indications that anything was wrong with the car prior to it shutting off. The car was towed to a Ford dealership where it was determined that the reason the car broke was due to the oil belt breaking which is an active recall. The manufacturer recall number is 23S64. The NHTSA recall number is 23V905. This oil belt failure, led to both the turbocharger and engine seizing up and breaking due to a lack of oil being delivered to the system. This problem poses a safety risk as a loss of engine oil pressure can result in engine damage and/or seizure, which can result in a loss of motive power and a loss of the mechanical vacuum pump required to provide power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash. In March 2024, the recall only covered replacing the oil system - not the engine or turbo charger. In mid-June 2024, the recall was updated to include replacing the oil system as well as the engine and turbocharger that was affected in the cascading effects of the lack of oil delivery. We were told by the Ford dealership that a new engine and turbocharger had been ordered and would be delivered and installed in my car at the beginning of July 2024. Since early July 2024, I have called several times for an update of the status of my car. Each time, I have been told they are waiting on parts. Most recently, I was told that the one part they are waiting on is the high pressure pump. The service advisor at the local dealership said he has ordered it twice and emergency ordered it one other time. However, corporate Ford is not getting this order taken care of in a timely manner. It is now October 2024 and I have been waiting 7 months to get my car fixed. Per the NHTSA, car companies are expected to fix the recalled issue in a timely manner and Ford has failed to do this. They have also refused to buy my car back.

- Summary: The clutch failed, and is available for inspection. The dealer confirmed clutch needs replacing. No warning lights which is why I scanned for any codes. Other than the dealer no other inspections. I was driving normally along on the highway in stop and go traffic. A/C was on and normal breaking and traveling 15-25MPH. As traffic broke started to accelerate at a normal pace. Then the vehicle started to violently shake, got really loud like my exhaust had fallen off. I had to put the hazard lights on. Then put the vehicle in neutral as traffic was passing me on both sides. From neutral went back to drive and it make a loud noise but seemed power was back. I had to keep rpm’s under 2000 and get off the highway and drove slowly home. Applying any higher acceleration resulting in shaking and noises. I did stop to see if any fluids or objects hanging once safely off the highway but nothing was there. I scanned the vehicle in the following days and had zero codes, attached. Then made appointment for the dealership. They are saying no recall while my scanner says possibly. I called Ford direct and they point me to here as my vin apparently doesn’t meet the criteria.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2018 model. I haven't experienced any transmission problems like the older models have had. Occasionally, during heavier city driving in warmer weather, it may shutter a bit, but it's not a chronic issue. Overall, the car has been great and handles beautifully in the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. It's an absolute blast to drive! Also, I'm happy to report that my best trip mileage was an actual 39 MPG. Thanks for listening!
-
Hi there! This car comes with some great features, including a sun roof, navigation, Sony sound system, leather interior, heated seats, and a steering wheel warmer. Plus, both back seats can lay down for extra storage space. Let me know if you have any questions!

This is the car I bought but never used. I work in San Francisco and live in the East Bay, so this car has saved me a lot of money. It has an automatic transmission and a 1.0 liter ecoboost engine. As someone who is 6'1, I find it comfortable for two people my size, but fitting people in the back can be a pain and uncomfortable. Overall, it's an excellent car for two tall people or up to four people with shorter legs.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2018 Ford Focus SE sedan. I received the car in March and noticed that the temperature gauge hardly moved after driving at least 8 miles. Now that summer is over, I've come to the conclusion that the thermostat opens too soon, causing the antifreeze to flow too soon and creating a very cold engine. With winter approaching, I think it's best to change the factory-installed thermostat to a more reliable one. What do you think?

The SEL hatchback is definitely the way to go! I got mine new with just a handful of miles on it. It handles really well, has plenty of power to pass cars on the highway, and it looks great doing it. The touchscreen is awesome, although I did have to replace mine within a few months. It was a faulty unit, but thankfully it was covered by my warranty. Overall, it's a low maintenance, comfortable, and fantastic daily driver.

This is a great little car that is very fuel efficient, with incredible MPG! It may not have a lot of acceleration power, but it gets the job done. While we did experience a problem with the steering wheel becoming loose, there is currently no recall for it. It's important to note that the interior is quite small, but it's perfect for the driver and passenger. However, it's not intended for drivers over 6'2. As someone who is 6'4, I find it difficult to get out of the car without nearly breaking my neck moving my head under the door opening. My knees also hit the dashboard, even with the seat as far back as possible. Luckily, it's my wife's vehicle, and she's 4'10 and it fits her perfectly.

I have experienced three major issues with my 2018 Ford Focus, which I purchased from Greico Ford in December 2018. Despite only having 8,300 miles on the car, I am not satisfied with its performance.

Hi there! Have you ever had a transmission shudder issue with your car? Unfortunately, it seems like some car manufacturers don't always stand behind their brand as they should. In this case, a 19-year-old driver was left with a known transmission shudder issue in a Ford car that was still under warranty. It's frustrating when things like this happen, but it's important to stay informed and aware. If you have a Ford Focus, be sure to keep an eye out for any potential transmission issues. Thanks for reading!

If you're looking for a reliable daily driver, this car is a great option. While the interior may feel a bit cramped for larger individuals, I found it to be comfortable. I purchased the top-end model and have been enjoying the heated seats and remote start, especially on colder days. Additionally, the car gets great gas mileage, which is a bonus. I'm hoping that the auto manual transmission will continue to perform well.

The engine died in this vehicle after 42,000 miles, but thankfully I had purchased an extended warranty. Unfortunately, the dealership had to order a new engine from another state, which will take almost 2 months to arrive. It's worth noting that Ford no longer produces the Focus, but I'm confident that everything will work out in the end.
