The Ford Focus is a compact car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1999. It was created under Alexander Trotman's Ford 2000 plan, which aimed to globalize model development and sell one compact vehicle worldwide. Naming
The decision to name the new car the "Ford Focus" was made in early 1998, as Ford's senior management had been planning to keep the "Escort" nameplate for its new generation of small family cars. A last-minute problem arose in July 1998 when a Cologne court, responding to a case brought by the publisher Burda, ordered Ford to avoid the name "Focus" for the cars in the German market since the name was already taken by one of its magazines (Focus). This eleventh-hour dispute was resolved, however, and the car was launched with the name Focus.
First generation (C170; 1998)
Ford of Europe introduced the Focus in 1998 to the European market as a replacement for the Ford Escort. The Focus Mk 1 was awarded the 1999 European Car of the Year award. The project manager for the Ford Focus at Dunton was Rose Mary Farenden.
Ford of North America began marketing the Focus in September 1999 for the 2000 model year, with some changes from the European version. The car was launched as a three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, and five-door wagon; a five-door hatchback debuted in 2001.
In 2002, Ford launched its highest performance version of the Focus, called the Focus RS. It came with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Duratec RS engine, a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, an AP Racing clutch, and a revolutionary design front suspension strut system called "Revo-knuckle"- as marketed by Ford, Sachs Racing dampers Brembo brakes, 18” O.Z Racing alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and a host of other performance changes, combined with a much more aggressive appearance, and was available only in Ford's Imperial blue. Tickford Engineering won the engineering contract for the research, development and to oversee production of the Mk 1 Focus RS. Tickford made substantial modifications to the base unit, with up to 70% of the base components either updated, re-engineered or completely redesigned. Despite the development being carried out in the United Kingdom, Ford produced the Focus RS in the Saarlouis plant in Germany between 2002 and 2003 making a limited run of 4501 cars only. This original Focus RS was only available in Europe; just under half (2147) of these were sold in the UK.
For decades, in the U.S., small cars like the Focus were seen as a tool to draw in younger buyers looking for a cheap basic transportation and to increase auto makers' fleet average fuel economies to meet U.S. federal standards. Ford was said not to be concerned about losing money on the Focus so the company could sell gas guzzlers for big profits. However, recent sales of new Focuses have been able to maintain lower or overall discounting incentive rates than many competing vehicles in its class. Many industry insiders view cars like the Focus as 'compliance cars' because of their role in helping to bring up the corporate fleet average fuel economy to meet current fuel-economy standards.

- Summary: I hit an animal in my way to work as I reported the accident to my insurance company they were going to cover the parts and have it towed to my choice as it was however the professional car shop wasn't able to fix the anti theft that caused my car to not turn over as I was then told to take it to the nearest Ford dealer to get it reprogrammed to the original status I was told that it would cost more to fix the problem then what my car was purchased for so my insurance company claimed a total loss of the vehicle, Oliver Ford Lincoln Mercury in Plymouth Indiana sold me a lemon as I was a customer to them for over 8 yrs and covid came in the middle of my lease being up on 2017 Ford fusion I asked if I could purchase my lease vehicle but was refused and told no because I was collecting unemployment benefits but for the last year and half I paid my car note out of my unemployment benefits money each month but they didn't seem to accept my money then, I have always been a Ford customer and drove 4 brand new Ford fusions and paid off each one with my hard earned money, I was devastated by the decision of being told that my unemployment money wasn't earned money, yes correct it wasn't earned Money that I paid into it was because of my employer who paid in for me as I worked enough for the company to take care of me while I suffered through no fault of my own a pandemic that should not be held as a turniquit over my ability to have transportation no matter what money is paid and where it comes from I felt disappointed discriminated and I will never buy or refer any customer or vehicle

- Summary: WITH LESS THAT 70000 MILES ON THE CAR MY TRANSMISSION STARTED TO GO OUT ON ME. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AS IT IS UNDER WARRANTY, AND LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER GETTING IT FIXED IT WAS ALREADY STARTED TO GO ON ME AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE SIX MONTHS.

- Summary: SEVERAL TIMES, MY BREAKS HAVE NOT RESPONDED WHILE PRESSING DOWN ON THEM, MY FOOT WILL BE TO THE GROUND AND THERE IS NOTHING. IT CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED GOING 35 MILES AN HOUR.

At first, I was considering the Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris, but after test driving the 2011 Focus SES, it was the clear winner for me in terms of performance to fuel economy ratio. As a commuter vehicle, I needed something that would be great on gas and accommodate my 6'4'' and almost 300 lbs frame, and the Focus did one better by offering 140 HP. I particularly enjoyed the handling and feel of the SES over all the other test drives, and the great sound system with all the features provided by SYNC was a bonus.

Coming up on 200K miles, Mobil 1 since free 5,000 mile oil change. I've always kept up with routine maintenance, but never had to deal with anything major. It's been six years and I haven't had to make a single car payment! This is definitely the best car I've ever owned. I even have a friend who put over 500K miles on his Focus!

I recently purchased a 2011 Ford Focus S A/T and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The paint job is flawless and the car drives smoothly with excellent performance. Although the Chinese tires produce some road noise and the hubcaps are not of the highest quality, I plan to replace them. The interior is a standout feature, with a four-speaker c/d-mp3-radio, A/C, and overdrive lockout. While I would recommend adding cruise control for long trips, the car is highly responsive and a joy to drive. In my first 1000 miles of mixed driving, I have averaged an impressive 38 MPG. I would highly recommend this car to anyone in the market for a reliable and efficient vehicle. Kudos to Ford for a job well done!

I purchased my car at 50,000 miles and it currently has 94,000 miles. Unfortunately, I have experienced several issues with it. Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful that I can find a solution. I have had some trouble with the air conditioning during the summer months and the heating system during the winter months. I have invested in a new heater core, thermostat, and radiator flush, but the car still runs hot. Additionally, I had to replace the throttle body a few months ago, which was quite expensive. I have had similar idling issues with a previous Ford Focus I owned. Recently, I had to replace the brake drums in the back after just changing the discs in the front. When I share my experiences with others, they often joke that 'Ford' stands for 'Fix Often Repeat Daily'. Despite these challenges, I remain optimistic and hopeful that I can find a solution.

Mechanically, the car is great! Although I have had a few issues, they were mostly due to my own neglect. Unfortunately, the torque converter did die on me twice in one month. However, the good news is that it's a nice car to drive. The only downside is the interior. The door panel broke, leaving the window controls just hanging. Everything is held together by barely half an inch thick plastic that gets super rigid and prone to breaking in the cold. The dashboard started vibrating to the point where I hated driving it. The center air vent popped out randomly while I was driving and won't go back in due to a few pieces that broke. The seats are not the most supportive, and I find my knees and back aching after driving for more than 30 minutes. Overall, it'll get you from point A to point B, but it's not the most comfortable or convenient car out there.

I purchased my 2011 Ford Focus in March 2011 and unfortunately, I have had to take it back to the dealer three times for repairs. One time, it even left me stranded on the highway. Despite these setbacks, I am hopeful that the dealer will be able to fix the current issue with the passenger door not opening from either side. Although I am disappointed with the car's performance so far, I am still optimistic that it will live up to its reputation as a great car.

I am confident in my assessment that my 2011 Ford Focus may require new rims due to the wear and tear of high profile tires. While alloy rims may not hold their value as well, I am certain that investing in quality replacements will improve the overall performance and longevity of the vehicle. Although I have already had to replace the wheel bearings, I am confident that with proper maintenance and care, my Ford Focus will continue to serve me well for years to come.

When I first got my license, I drove a Honda, but since then I've driven trucks and SUVs. I was a bit skeptical about getting another car, worried that it would be too small. However, I found that the gas mileage was the selling point, which is great for my 30-mile daily commute. Although the backseat is a little small, I don't ride in the backseat, so it's not a big issue for me. The trunk is huge, but I think they could have made it smaller and used the extra space for the backseat. Other than that, I really like this car. It doesn't have a lot of engine power, but once again, I'm used to bigger engines. Overall, I am very pleased with my choice of getting the Focus.
