Common 2017 Ford Flex problems

The Ford Flex, a popular full-size crossover car from the Ford brand, has been on the market since 2008 and was discontinued in 2019. While the Ford Flex is generally considered reliable, certain model years have common problems that potential buyers should be aware of.

One of the most common issues across various model years is electrical problems, particularly in the 2013 and 2014 models. These issues can range from minor inconveniences to major, costly repairs. Specific electrical problems include the door light staying on when the car is shut, loss of power while driving, and the car not starting. These issues can be unpredictable and inconvenient, so it is recommended to avoid these model years if you want to minimize the risk of dealing with expensive repairs.

Another problem area for the Ford Flex is engine troubles, with the 2010 model being particularly prone to these issues. Engine troubles can include blown engines, engine failure, and the check engine light coming on. These problems can be costly and inconvenient, so it is best to avoid the 2010 model if you want to minimize the risk of engine issues.

Interior and exterior accessory issues have also been reported for the Ford Flex. These problems can include air conditioning and heater troubles, as well as issues with seat latches. While these issues may not be as severe as electrical or engine problems, they can still be inconvenient and affect the overall driving experience.

When considering a used Ford Flex, it is important to be aware of these common problems and the model years associated with them. By avoiding these problematic model years, you can increase the likelihood of a positive car-owning experience.

THE DRIVER AND BOTH PASSENGERS GOT BACK IN THE CAR TO SEE IF WE COULD PROCEED SLOWLY/SAFELY DOWN THE INTERSTATE TO THE NEXT EXIT IN ORDER TO CALL FOR SERVICE BUT THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO FISHTAIL AGAIN, SO WE CALLED FOR A AAA TOW FROM THE INTERSTATE. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TO ARRIVE, WE REINSPECTED THE TIRES AND FOUND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE TO BE TURNED OUT SLIGHTLY. THE CAR WAS TOWED VIA FLAT BED 124 MILES TO A FORD DEALER IN BAKERSFIELD WHERE IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY DETERMINED TO BE A FAILED TOE LINK SUSPENSION ASSOCIATED WITH FORD RECALL 20S04. Negative 2017 Ford Flex car reviews

  1. Henri Rice 2024-10-08

I have looked at a number of these vehicles and noticed that the finish seems quite delicate. Unfortunately, every one I looked at had scratches, fading, nicks, and paint chips. It appears that the finish may not be the best.

  2. Columbus Yundt 2024-06-27

Gas mileage has been misrepresented and is very poor. I had a negative experience with Ford regarding the lease buyout, due to the representative's ignorance and poor mileage. I will be returning the vehicle. Thank you for your understanding.

  3. Julio Wunsch 2024-05-29

This car has been a nightmare for me. The cruise control struggles to maintain speed on inclines, causing constant acceleration and deceleration. The safety features are also a source of frustration, with the doors locking themselves and the seatbelt not recoiling properly. The push button start feature is also problematic, with the car shutting off randomly and the keychain draining the battery quickly. Additionally, the car has a tendency to wear out tires quickly and the alignment gets knocked out frequently. These issues have been a major inconvenience for me.I found a shop that did a realignment job and fixed the issue. Although the car has additional covers on the engine that need to be removed to access the oil filter and drain plug, I am able to manage it with my own car lift. The glovebox storage is limited, but I can keep the owner's manual in it. While I had some difficulties with this car, I am confident in my ability to maintain it and will continue to do so.

  4. Ewald Jaskolski 2024-04-10

I have always been a loyal Ford customer, having owned an Expedition, two different F150s, an F250, and now the brand new 2016 Flex. However, my recent experience with the Flex has been disappointing. In the first 6,000 miles, I have experienced five breakdowns due to sudden loss of acceleration, which is a serious safety concern. Despite having a code indicating a problem with the throttle body, the first dealer I visited was unable to replicate the issue during a test drive and therefore could not fix it. However, the dealer we purchased the car from was very helpful and ordered a new throttle body for us to keep driving the car until the issue could be resolved. Unfortunately, the problem persisted and I had to have the car towed to the dealer with the ordered part. While it is frustrating to have to deal with these issues, I am confident that Ford will take care of the problem and ensure that my car is safe to drive. I look forward to continuing my relationship with Ford and their quality vehicles. The suspension issue with my Flex has been looked at twice already, but unfortunately, it still persists. Despite the challenges, I remain confident that the issue will be resolved. While I have had some negative experiences with this car and the manufacturer's service, I have always had positive experiences with Ford in the past. I hope that they will continue to uphold their reputation for quality and customer service. However, if the issues with my Flex persist, I may need to consider other options for my family's safety. It is important to thoroughly research any potential car purchases and make an informed decision.

  5. Jameson Thompson 2024-04-08

My 2015 Flex Limited has been a disappointment due to poor workmanship, cheap materials, limited range for a high-end vehicle, poor mileage, and a noisy interior.

Positive 2017 Ford Flex car reviews

  1. Jordan Schroeder 2024-10-26

I've owned several vehicles in the past, including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Honda. I've always dreamed of owning a Ford Flex because of its size. When I first learned to drive at 18, I took my driver's test in a 1975 Chevy Impala Wagon and passed with flying colours. I feel safe in larger vehicles, and my 2016 Ford Flex Limited has been a great ride so far with no issues. When I purchased the vehicle, it had close to 18,000 miles on it, so I checked the VIN# for any recalls. It had one for the throttle issue, but I was able to take it to a Ford dealership for repair under the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, even though I bought it from a Chrysler dealership in the same city. The repair only took about 1.5 hours. The Ford dealership informed me that they are responsible for fixing any issues with used vehicles under warranty, regardless of where it was purchased. If you have an extended warranty, the dealership where you purchased it is responsible for repairs after the original warranty expires. I drove my Ford Flex to Virginia with my husband, two dogs, and luggage, and it performed perfectly after the throttle recall repair. I made sure all recalls were fixed before our trip. When you buy a vehicle, whether it's new or used, it's important to check the VIN# for recalls after you have bought it so that it doesn't have any problems in the long run. In my case, I bought a 2016 Ford Flex Limited in Magnetic color and I am still loving it. Days after I bought it, I went back to the dealership where I bought it and they assured me that Ford would take care of the recalls and issues within the first 3 years/36,000 miles original warranty. After that, since I bought the extended warranty from a Chrysler dealership, they would then take over with repairs and issues with the vehicle. To ensure my vehicle was sound and without issues during my long haul across the United States, I had the Ford dealership put

  2. Otto Jenkins 2024-10-24

For me, the visibility, spaciousness, and comfort are the best features of this vehicle. It rides like a couch, which is perfect for our family of five plus our large dog. I previously owned a Dodge Caravan RT and have never regretted switching to this one.

  3. Dashawn Dietrich 2024-07-08

Love the Flex. This is our 3rd Flex. This is a replacement Flex for another one that we had that got in an accident. However, it's unfortunate that Ford has stopped making the Flex.

  4. Jonatan Simonis 2024-06-20

Ease of access to the 3rd row seating is fantastic. The amount of room is more than what you would find in an Explorer or other third row cars. There is plenty of leg room in all three rows, making it perfect for moving grandchildren with three car seats. It works great and the kids can even load themselves with ease!

  5. Uriel Maggio 2024-06-17

This is the second Flex I have owned. It is surprisingly spacious and comfortable, even for my family of four with long-legged boys, on the many road trips we have taken. With the AWD, it handles snow and ice with ease, giving me confidence on the road. In fact, it climbs our very steep hill in the mountains in the snow better than my husband's Ram 2500. I highly recommend it!
