2016 Ford F-450 problems

The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2016 Ford F-450 problems
Based on the information provided in the sources, here are some common problems with the 2016 Ford F-450 as reported by owners:
- Starting Problems with Trailer Brake Module Fault:
- Some owners have experienced intermittent starting issues with the code "trailer brake module fault." This issue can be frustrating as the vehicle may not start reliably, impacting its dependability, especially for work purposes. Diagnosis by service technicians may sometimes fail to identify the problem, leading to challenges in resolving this issue.
- Driveshaft Imbalance and Fracture:
- A recall issued by Ford for certain 2017-2018 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 4x4 vehicles highlighted a potential problem with the driveshaft. Over time, a radial damper inside the driveshaft may move out of position, causing a driveshaft imbalance that could lead to a fracture. This issue poses a safety risk and requires the driveshaft to be replaced.
- Tire Sidewall Damage:
- Another recall involved model year 2016 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks due to potential damage to the inner sidewall of the tires. This damage could result in a loss of air or tire rupture, affecting the safety and performance of the vehicle. Owners were advised to have their tires inspected for damage and replaced if necessary.
- Driveline Vibration and Fracture:
- Owners of 2017 Ford F-450 and F-550 Superduty vehicles reported issues with driveline vibration at highway speeds, which could lead to fractures in driveline components or the transmission. To address this, Ford initiated a recall to replace the driveshaft and two center bearing brackets to prevent potential driveline failures.
- Door Latch Failure Due to Accessory Covers:
- Certain 2015-2017 F-Series vehicles, including the F-450, were recalled due to a safety concern related to accessory door handle covers. These covers, if installed, could cause the doors to unlatch during a side impact collision, failing to comply with safety standards. Ford offered a solution by removing the accessory covers and refunding the purchase price to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
These reported problems highlight various safety and performance issues that owners of the 2016 Ford F-450 may encounter. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to recalls are essential to address these issues and ensure the vehicle's safe operation.
